Eulerian series, zeta functions and the arithmetic of partitions
In this Ph.D. dissertation (2018, Emory University) we prove theorems at the intersection of the additive and multiplicative branches of number theory, bringing together ideas from partition theory, $q$-series, algebra, modular forms and analytic number theory. We present a natural multiplicative theory of integer partitions (which are usually considered in terms of addition), and explore new classes of partition-theoretic zeta functions and Dirichlet series -- as well as "Eulerian" $q$-hypergeometric series -- enjoying many interesting relations. We find a number of theorems of classical number theory and analysis arise as particular cases of extremely general combinatorial structure laws. Among our applications, we prove explicit formulas for the coefficients of the $q$-bracket of Bloch-Okounkov, a partition-theoretic operator from statistical physics related to quasi-modular forms; we prove partition formulas for arithmetic densities of certain subsets of the integers, giving $q$-series formulas to evaluate the Riemann zeta function; we study $q$-hypergeometric series related to quantum modular forms and the "strange" function of Kontsevich; and we show how Ramanujan's odd-order mock theta functions (and, more generally, the universal mock theta function $g_3$ of Gordon-McIntosh) arise from the reciprocal of the Jacobi triple product via the $q$-bracket operator, connecting also to unimodal sequences in combinatorics and quantum modular-like phenomena.

We apply the saddle-point method to derive asymptotic estimates or asymptotic series for the number of partitions of a natural integer into parts chosen from a subset of the positive integers whose associated Dirichlet series satisfies certain analytic properties. This enables grouping in a single statement many cases studied in the literature, as well as a number of new ones.
Crystal constructions in Number Theory
Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series and metaplectic Whittaker functions can be described in terms of crystal graphs. We present crystals as parameterized by Littelmann patterns and we give a survey of purely combinatorial constructions of prime power coefficients of Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series and metaplectic Whittaker functions using the language of crystal graphs. We explore how the branching structure of crystals manifests in these constructions, and how it allows access to some intricate objects in number theory and related open questions using tools of algebraic combinatorics.

We connect a primitive operation from arithmetic -- summing the digits of a base-$B$ integer -- to $q$-series and product generating functions analogous to those in partition theory. We find digit sum generating functions to be intertwined with distinctive classes of "$B$-ary" Lambert series, which themselves enjoy nice transformations. We also consider digit sum Dirichlet series.

For a semisimple Lie algebra admitting a good enumeration, we prove a parametrization for the elements in its Weyl group. As an application, we give a coordinate-free comparison between the crystal graph description (when it is known) and the Lie-theoretic description of the Weyl group multiple Dirichlet series in the stable range.
Generalized Dirichlet series of n variables associated with automatic sequences
This article consists to give a necessary and sufficient condition of the meromorphic continuity of Dirichlet series defined as $\sum_{x\in \mathbf{N}^n} \frac{a_{x}}{P(x)^s}$, Where $a_{x}$ is a $q$-automatic sequence of $n$ parameters and $P: \mathbf{C}^n \to \mathbf{C}$ a polynomial, such that $P$ does not have zeros on $\mathbf{Q}^{n}_{+}$. And some specific cases of $n=1$ will also be studied in this article as examples to show the possibility to have an holomorphic continuity on the whole complex plane. Some equivalences between infinite products are also built as consequences of these results.
Generating Function Transformations Related to Polylogarithm Functions and the $k$-Order Harmonic Numbers

We define a new class of generating function transformations related to polylogarithm functions, Dirichlet series, and Euler sums. These transformations are given by an infinite sum over the $j^{th}$ derivatives of a sequence generating function and sets of generalized coefficients satisfying a non-triangular recurrence relation in two variables. The generalized transformation coefficients share a number of analogous properties with the Stirling numbers of the second kind and the known harmonic number expansions of the unsigned Stirling numbers of the first kind.
We prove a number of properties of the generalized coefficients which lead to new recurrence relations and summation identities for the $k$-order harmonic number sequences. Other applications of the generating function transformations we define in the article include new series expansions for the polylogarithm function, the alternating zeta function, and the Fourier series for the periodic Bernoulli polynomials. We conclude the article with a discussion of several specific new "almost" linear recurrence relations between the integer-order harmonic numbers and the generalized transformation coefficients, which provide new applications to studying the limiting behavior of the zeta function constants, $ζ(k)$, at integers $k \geq 2$.
The number of ideals of $\mathbb{Z}[x]$ containing $x(x-α)(x-β)$ with given index
It is well-known that a connected regular graph is strongly-regular if and only if its adjacency matrix has exactly three eigenvalues. Let $B$ denote an integral square matrix and $\langle B \rangle$ denote the subring of the full matrix ring generated by $B$. Then $\langle B \rangle$ is a free $\mathbb{Z}$-module of finite rank, which guarantees that there are only finitely many ideals of $\langle B \rangle$ with given finite index. Thus, the formal Dirichlet series $ζ_{\langle B \rangle}(s)=\sum_{n\geq 1}a_n n^{-s}$ is well-defined where $a_n$ is the number of ideals of $\langle B \rangle$ with index $n$. In this article we aim to find an explicit form of $ζ_{\langle B \rangle}(s)$ when $B$ has exactly three eigenvalues all of which are integral, e.g., the adjacency matrix of a strongly-regular graph which is not a conference graph with a non-squared number of vertices. By isomorphism theorem for rings, $\langle B \rangle$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}[x]/m(x)\mathbb{Z}[x]$ where $m(x)$ is the minimal polynomial of $B$ over $\mathbb{Q}$, and $\mathbb{Z}[x]/m(x)\mathbb{Z}[x]$ is isomorphic to $\mathbb{Z}[x]/m(x+γ)\mathbb{Z}[x]$ for each $γ\in \mathbb{Z}$. Thus, the problem is reduced to counting the number of ideals of $\mathbb{Z}[x]/x(x-α)(x-β)\mathbb{Z}[x]$ with given finite index where $0,α$ and $β$ are distinct integers.
Orbit Dirichlet series and multiset permutations

We study Dirichlet series enumerating orbits of Cartesian products of maps whose orbit distributions are modelled on the distributions of finite index subgroups of free abelian groups of finite rank. We interpret Euler factors of such orbit Dirichlet series in terms of generating polynomials for statistics on multiset permutations, viz. descent and major index, generalizing Carlitz's $q$-Eulerian polynomials.
We give two main applications of this combinatorial interpretation. Firstly, we establish local functional equations for the Euler factors of the orbit Dirichlet series under consideration. Secondly, we determine these (global) Dirichlet series' abscissae of convergence and establish some meromorphic continuation beyond these abscissae. As a corollary, we describe the asymptotics of the relevant orbit growth sequences. For Cartesian products of more than two maps we establish a natural boundary for meromorphic continuation. For products of two maps, we prove the existence of such a natural boundary subject to a combinatorial conjecture.
Whittaker Coefficients of Metaplectic Eisenstein Series

We study Whittaker coefficients for maximal parabolic Eisenstein series on metaplectic covers of split reductive groups. By the theory of Eisenstein series these coefficients have meromorphic continuation and functional equation. However they are not Eulerian and the standard methods to compute them in the reductive case do not apply to covers. For "cominuscule" maximal parabolics, we give an explicit description of the coefficients as Dirichlet series whose arithmetic content is expressed in an exponential sum. The exponential sum is then shown to satisfy a twisted multiplicativity, reducing its determination to prime power contributions. These, in turn, are connected to Lusztig data for canonical bases on the dual group using a result of Kamnitzer. The exponential sum at prime powers is then evaluated for generic Lusztig data. To handle the remaining degenerate cases, the evaluation of the exponential sum appears best expressed in terms of string data for canonical bases, as shown in a detailed example in $GL_4$. Thus we demonstrate that the arithmetic part of metaplectic Whittaker coefficients is intimately connected to the relations between these two expressions for canonical bases.

We survey general properties of multiplicative arithmetic functions of several variables and related convolutions, including the Dirichlet convolution and the unitary convolution. We introduce and investigate a new convolution, called gcd convolution. We define and study the convolutes of arithmetic functions of several variables, according to the different types of convolutions. We discuss the multiple Dirichlet series and Bell series and present certain arithmetic and asymptotic results of some special multiplicative functions arising from problems in number theory, group theory and combinatorics. We give a new proof to obtain the asymptotic density of the set of ordered $r$-tuples of positive integers with pairwise relatively prime components and consider a similar question related to unitary divisors.
Ramanujan and Eckford Cohen totients from Visible Point Identities
We define an extension of the Ramanujan trigonometric function to arbitrary dimensions, and give the Dirichlet series generating function. The extension was first given by Eckford Cohen long ago. This links directly to visible point vector identities, and possibly to lattice sums in Physics and Chemistry presented by Baake et al. New generating functions and summations are given here, generalizing the Ramanujan function, Euler totient and the Jordan totient functions, based on visible lattice point ideas.
D-analogues of q-shifted factorial and the q-Kummer sum
Recently, the concept of a D-analogue was introduced by the author. This is a Dirichlet series analogue for the already known and well researched hypergeometric q-series. we consider the D-analogues of the q-binomial coefficients, and a D-analogue of the q-Kummer (Bailey-Daum) sum.

In this paper we investigate special generalized Bernoulli polynomials with a,b,c parameters that generalize classical Bernoulli numbers and polynomials. The present paper deals with some recurrence formulae for the generalization of poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials with a,b,c parameters. Poly-Bernoulli numbers satisfy certain recurrence relationships which are used in many computations involving poly-Bernoulli numbers. Obtaining a closed formula for generalization of poly-Bernoulli numbers with a,b,c paramerers therefore seems to be a natural and important problem. By using the generalization of poly-Bernoulli polynomials with a,b,c parameters of negative index we define symmetrized generalization of poly-Bernoulli polynomials with a,b parameters of two variables and we prove duality property for them. Also by stirling numbers of the second kind we will find a closed formula for them. Furthermore we generalize the Arakawa-Kaneko Zeta functions and by using the Laplace-Mellin integral, we define generalization of Arakawa-Kaneko Zeta functions with a,b parameters and we obtain an interpolation formula for the generalization of poly-Bernoulli numbers and polynomials with a,b parameters. Furthermore we present a link between this type of Zeta functions and Dirichlet series. By our interpolation formula, we will interpolate the generalization of Arakawa-Kaneko Zeta functions with a,b parameters.
The Generating Function for the Dirichlet Series $L_m(s)$

The Dirichlet series $L_m(s)$ are of fundamental importance in number theory. Shanks defined the generalized Euler and class numbers in connection with these Dirichlet series, denoted by $\{s_{m,n}\}_{n\geq 0}$. We obtain a formula for the exponential generating function $s_m(x)$ of $s_{m,n}$, where m is an arbitrary positive integer. In particular, for m>1, say, $m=bu^2$, where b is square-free and u>1, we prove that $s_m(x)$ can be expressed as a linear combination of the four functions $w(b,t)\sec (btx)(\pm \cos ((b-p)tx)\pm \sin (ptx))$, where p is an integer satisfying $0\leq p\leq b$, $t|u^2$ and $w(b,t)=K_bt/u$ with $K_b$ being a constant depending on b. Moreover, the Dirichlet series $L_m(s)$ can be easily computed from the generating function formula for $s_m(x)$. Finally, we show that the main ingredient in the formula for $s_{m,n}$ has a combinatorial interpretation in terms of the m-signed permutations defined by Ehrenborg and Readdy. In principle, this answers a question posed by Shanks concerning a combinatorial interpretation for the numbers $s_{m,n}$.

The similar sublattices of a planar lattice can be classified via its multiplier ring. The latter is the ring of rational integers in the generic case, and an order in an imaginary quadratic field otherwise. Several classes of examples are discussed, with special emphasis on concrete results. In particular, we derive Dirichlet series generating functions for the number of distinct similar sublattices of a given index, and relate them to various zeta functions of orders in imaginary quadratic fields.

Let GF(q)[x,y] be the polynomial algebra in two variables over the finite field GF(q) with q elements. We give an exact formula and the asymptotics for the number p(n) of automorphisms (f,g) of GF(q)[x,y] such that max{deg(f),deg(g)}=n. We describe also the Dirichlet series generating function p(1)/1^s+p(2)/2^s+p(3)/3^s+.... The same results hold for the automorphisms of the free associative algebra GF(q)<x,y>. We have also obtained analogues for free algebras with two generators in Nielsen - Schreier varieties of algebras.
On the binomial convolution of arithmetical functions

Let $n=\prod_p p^{ν_p(n)}$ denote the canonical factorization of $n\in \N$. The binomial convolution of arithmetical functions $f$ and $g$ is defined as $(f\circ g)(n)=\sum_{d\mid n} (\prod_p \binom{ν_p(n)}{ν_p(d)}) f(d)g(n/d),$ where $\binom{a}{b}$ is the binomial coefficient. We provide properties of the binomial convolution. We study the $\C$-algebra $({\cal A},+,\circ,\C)$, characterizations of completely multiplicative functions, Selberg multiplicative functions, exponential Dirichlet series, exponential generating functions and a generalized binomial convolution leading to various Möbius-type inversion formulas. Throughout the paper we compare our results with those of the Dirichlet convolution *. Our main result is that $({\cal A},+,\circ,\C)$ is isomorphic to $({\cal A},+,*,\C)$. We also obtain a "multiplicative" version of the multinomial theorem.
The height of watermelons with wall

We derive asymptotics for the moments as well as the weak limit of the height distribution of watermelons with p branches with wall. This generalises a famous result of de Bruijn, Knuth and Rice on the average height of planted plane trees, and results by Fulmek and Katori et al. on the expected value, respectively the higher moments, of the height distribution of watermelons with two branches.
The asymptotics for the moments depend on the analytic behaviour of certain multidimensional Dirichlet series. In order to obtain this information we prove a reciprocity relation satisfied by the derivatives of one of Jacobi's theta functions, which generalises the well known reciprocity law for Jacobi's theta functions.

The coincidence site lattices (CSLs) of prominent 4-dimensional lattices are considered. CSLs in 3 dimensions have been used for decades to describe grain boundaries in crystals. Quasicrystals suggest to also look at CSLs in dimensions $d>3$. Here, we discuss the CSLs of the root lattice $A_4$ and the hypercubic lattices, which are of particular interest both from the mathematical and the crystallographic viewpoint. Quaternion algebras are used to derive their coincidence rotations and the CSLs. We make use of the fact that the CSLs can be linked to certain ideals and compute their indices, their multiplicities and encapsulate all this in generating functions in terms of Dirichlet series. In addition, we sketch how these results can be generalised for 4--dimensional $\Z$--modules by discussing the icosian ring.
