Transversal structures (also known as regular edge labelings) are combinatorial structures defined over 4-connected plane triangulations with quadrangular outer-face. They have been intensively studied and used for many applications (drawing algorithm, random generation, enumeration ...). In this paper we introduce and study a generalization of these objects for the toroidal case. Contrary to what happens in the plane, the set of toroidal transversal structures of a given toroidal triangulation is partitioned into several distributive lattices. We exhibit a subset of toroidal transversal structures, called balanced, and show that it forms a single distributive lattice. Then, using the minimal element of the lattice, we are able to enumerate bijectively essentially 4-connected toroidal triangulations.

We construct a new bijection between the set of $n\times k$ $0$-$1$ matrices with no three $1$'s forming a $Γ$ configuration and the set of $(n,k)$-Callan sequences, a simple structure counted by poly-Bernoulli numbers. We give two applications of this result: We derive the generating function of $Γ$-free matrices, and we give a new bijective proof for an elegant result of Aval et al. that states that the number of complete non-ambiguous forests with $n$ leaves is equal to the number of pairs of permutations of $\{1,\dots,n\}$ with no common rise.

In the classic Maximum Weight Independent Set problem we are given a graph $G$ with a nonnegative weight function on vertices, and the goal is to find an independent set in $G$ of maximum possible weight. While the problem is NP-hard in general, we give a polynomial-time algorithm working on any $P_6$-free graph, that is, a graph that has no path on $6$ vertices as an induced subgraph. This improves the polynomial-time algorithm on $P_5$-free graphs of Lokshtanov et al. (SODA 2014), and the quasipolynomial-time algorithm on $P_6$-free graphs of Lokshtanov et al (SODA 2016). The main technical contribution leading to our main result is enumeration of a polynomial-size family $\mathcal{F}$ of vertex subsets with the following property: for every maximal independent set $I$ in the graph, $\mathcal{F}$ contains all maximal cliques of some minimal chordal completion of $G$ that does not add any edge incident to a vertex of $I$.
Skew doubled shifted plane partitions: calculus and asymptotics

Plane partitions have been widely studied in Mathematics since MacMahon. See, for example, the works by Andrews, Macdonald, Stanley, Sagan and Krattenthaler. The Schur process approach, introduced by Okounkov and Reshetikhin, and further developed by Borodin, Corwin, Corteel, Savelief and Vuletić, has been proved to be a powerful tool in the study of various kinds of plane partitions. The exact enumerations of ordinary plane partitions, shifted plane partitions and cylindric partitions could be derived from two summation formulas for Schur processes, namely, the open summation formula and the cylindric summation formula.
In this paper, we establish a new summation formula for Schur processes, called the complete summation formula. As an application, we obtain the generating function and the asymptotic formula for the number of doubled shifted plane partitions, which can be viewed as plane partitions `shifted at the two sides'. We prove that the order of the asymptotic formula depends only on the diagonal width of the doubled shifted plane partition, not on the profile (the skew zone) itself. By using the same methods, the generating function and the asymptotic formula for the number of symmetric cylindric partitions are also derived.
Weak Modular Product of Bipartite Graphs, Bicliques and Isomorphism
A 1978 theorem of Kozen states that two graphs on $n$ vertices are isomorphic if and only if there is a clique of size $n$ in the weak modular product between the two graphs. Restricting to bipartite graphs and considering complete bipartite subgraphs (bicliques) therein, we study the combinatorics of the weak modular product. We identify cases where isomorphism is tractable using this approach, which we call Isomorphism via Biclique Enumeration (IvBE). We find that IvBE is polynomial for bipartite $2K_2$-free graphs and quasi-polynomial for families of bipartite graphs, where the largest induced matching and largest induced crown graph grows slowly in $n$, that is, $O(\mathrm{polylog }\, n)$. Furthermore, as expected a straightforward corollary of Kozen's theorem and Lovász's sandwich theorem is if the weak modular product between two graphs is perfect, then checking if the graphs are isomorphic is polynomial in $n$. However, we show that for balanced, bipartite graphs this is only true in a few trivial cases. In doing so we define a new graph product on bipartite graphs, the very weak modular product. The results pertaining to bicliques in bipartite graphs proved here may be of independent interest.
The Tutte q-Polynomial
$q$-Matroids are defined on complemented modular support lattices. Minors of length 2 are of four types as in a "classical" matroid. Tutte polynomials $τ(x,y)$ of matroids are calculated either by recursion over deletion/contraction of single elements, by an enumeration of bases with respect to internal/external activities, or by substitution $x \to (x-1),\; y \to (y-1)$ in their rank generating functions $ρ(x,y)$. The $q$-analogue of the passage from a Tutte polynomial to its corresponding RGF is straight-forward, but the analogue of the reverse process $x \to (x-1),\; y \to (y-1)$ is more delicate.
For matroids $M(S)$ on a set $S$, and relative to any linear order on the points, the concept of internal/external activity of a point relative to a basis gives rise to a partition of the underlying Boolean algebra $B(S)$ into a set of "prime-free" (or "structureless") minors, such minors being direct sums of loops and isthmi (coloops), with one such prime-free minor for each basis. What usually goes unnoticed is that each prime-free minor has a unique clopen flat. The latter property carries over to $q$-matroids, but each prime-free minor will contain many bases. So internal and external activity in $q$-matroids must be defined not for points relative to bases, but rather for coverings in the underlying complemented modular lattice. Following lattice paths from arbitrary subspaces $A$ along active coverings (downward for internally active, upward for externally active) will lead to the unique clopen subspace in the prime-free minor containing the subspace $A$.
There are a number of interesting questions concerning $q$-matroids that remain unsolved.

In this paper Butson-type complex Hadamard matrices $\mathrm{BH}(n,q)$ of order $n$ and complexity $q$ are classified for small parameters by computer-aided methods. Our main results include the enumeration of $\mathrm{BH}(21,3)$, $\mathrm{BH}(16,4)$, and $\mathrm{BH}(14,6)$ matrices. There are exactly $72$, 1786763, and $167776$ such matrices, up to monomial equivalence. Additionally, we show an example of a $\mathrm{BH}(14,10)$ matrix for the first time, and show the nonexistence of $\mathrm{BH}(8,15)$, $\mathrm{BH}(11,q)$ for $q\in\{10,12,14,15\}$, and $\mathrm{BH}(13,10)$ matrices.

Following the work of Cano and Diaz, we consider a continuous analog of lattice path enumeration. This allows us to define a continuous version of any discrete object that counts certain types of lattice paths. We define continuous versions of binomials and multinomials, and describe some identities and partial differential equations they satisfy. Finally, we illustrate a general process to recover discrete combinatorial quantities from their continuous analogs.

In queuing theory, it is usual to have some models with a "reset" of the queue. In terms of lattice paths, it is like having the possibility of jumping from any altitude to zero. These objects have the interesting feature that they do not have the same intuitive probabilistic behaviour as classical Dyck paths (the typical properties of which are strongly related to Brownian motion theory), and this article quantifies some relations between these two types of paths. We give a bijection with some other lattice paths and a link with a continued fraction expansion. Furthermore, we prove several formulae for related combinatorial structures conjectured in the On-Line Encyclopedia of Integer Sequences. Thanks to the kernel method and via analytic combinatorics, we provide the enumeration and limit laws of these "lattice paths with catastrophes" for any finite set of jumps. We end with an algorithm to generate such lattice paths uniformly at random.
On arithmetic of one class of plane maps
We study bipartite maps on the plane with one infinite face and one face of perimeter 2. At first we consider the problem of their enumeration an then study the connection between the combinatorial structure of a map and the degree of its definition field. The second problem is considered, when the number of edges is $p+1$, where $p$ is a prime.

Let $m\ge 2$ be a fixed positive integer. Suppose that $m^j \leq n< m^{j+1}$ is a positive integer for some $j\ge 0$. Denote $b_{m}(n)$ the number of $m$-ary partitions of $n$, where each part of the partition is a power of $m$. In this paper, we show that $b_m(n)$ can be represented as a $j$-fold summation by constructing a one-to-one correspondence between the $m$-ary partitions and a special class of integer sequences rely only on the base $m$ representation of $n$. It directly reduces to Andrews, Fraenkel and Sellers' characterization of the values $b_{m}(mn)$ modulo $m$. Moreover, denote $c_{m}(n)$ the number of $m$-ary partitions of $n$ without gaps, wherein if $m^i$ is the largest part, then $m^k$ for each $0\leq k<i$ also appears as a part. We also obtain an enumeration formula for $c_m(n)$ which leads to an alternative representation for the congruences of $c_m(mn)$ due to Andrews, Fraenkel, and Sellers.

We consider "pressing sequences", a certain kind of transformation of graphs with loops into empty graphs, motivated by an application in phylogenetics. In particular, we address the question of when a graph has precisely one such pressing sequence, thus answering an question from Cooper and Davis (2015). We characterize uniquely pressable graphs, count the number of them on a given number of vertices, and provide a polynomial time recognition algorithm. We conclude with a few open questions.

An elliptic orbifold is the quotient of an elliptic curve by a finite group. Eskin and Okounkov proved that generating functions for the number of branched covers of an elliptic curve with specified ramification are quasimodular forms for the full modular group $SL_2(\mathbb{Z})$. They later generalized this theorem to the enumeration of branched covers of a pillowcase, i.e. the quotient of an elliptic curve by the elliptic involution, proving quasi-modularity for $Γ_1(2)$. We generalize their work to the quotient of an elliptic curve by cyclic groups of orders $N=3$, $4$, $6$, proving quasi-modularity for level $Γ_1(N)$.
One corollary is that certain generating functions of hexagon, square, and triangle tilings of compact surfaces are quasi-modular. These tilings enumerate lattice points in moduli spaces of flat surfaces. We analyze the asymptotic behavior as the number of tiles goes to infinity, theoretically giving an algorithm to compute the Masur-Veech volumes of moduli spaces of cubic, quartic, and sextic differentials. We also deduce that the volume is polynomial in $π$.

We enumerate total cyclic orders on $\left\{1,\ldots,n\right\}$ where we prescribe the relative cyclic order of consecutive triples $(i,{i+1},{i+2})$, these integers being taken modulo $n$. In some cases, the problem reduces to the enumeration of descent classes of permutations, which is done via the boustrophedon construction. In other cases, we solve the question by introducing multidimensional versions of the boustrophedon. In particular we find new interpretations for the Euler up/down numbers and the Entringer numbers.
Fermionic approach to weighted Hurwitz numbers and topological recursion

A fermionic representation is given for all the quantities entering in the generating function approach to weighted Hurwitz numbers and topological recursion. This includes: KP and 2D Toda $τ$-functions of hypergeometric type, which serve as generating functions for weighted single and double Hurwitz numbers; the Baker function, which is expanded in an adapted basis obtained by applying the same dressing transformation to all vacuum basis elements; the multipair correlators and the multicurrent correlators. Multiplicative and differential recursion relations are deduced for the adapted bases and their duals, and a Christoffel-Darboux type formula is derived for the pair correlator. The quantum and classical spectral curves linking this theory with the topological recursion programme are derived, as well as the generalized cut and join equations. The results are detailed for four special cases: the simple single and double Hurwitz numbers, the weakly monotone case, corresponding to signed enumeration of coverings, the strongly monotone case, corresponding to Belyi curves and the simplest version of quantum weighted Hurwitz numbers.
Enumeration of Restricted Words and Linear Recurrence Equations
In previous papers, for an arithmetical function $f_0$, we defined functions $f_m$ and $c_m$ and designated numbers of restricted words over a finite alphabet counted by these functions. In this paper, we examine the reverse problem for five specific types of restricted words. Namely, we find the initial function $f_0$ such that $f_m$ and $c_m$ enumerate these words. In each case, we derive explicit formulas for $f_m$ and $c_m$. Fibonacci, Merssen, Pell, Jacosthal, Tribonacci, and Padovan numbers all appear as values of $f_m$, so we obtain new formulas for these numbers. Also, we combinatorially derive explicit formulas for the solutions of five types of homogenous linear recurrence equations.
On sampling graphical Markov models
We consider sampling and enumeration problems for Markov equivalence classes. We create and analyze a Markov chain for uniform random sampling on the DAGs inside a Markov equivalence class. Though the worst case is exponentially slow mixing, we find a condition on the Markov equivalence class for polynomial time mixing. We also investigate the ratio of Markov equivalence classes to DAGs and a Markov chain of He, Jia, and Yu for random sampling of sparse Markov equivalence classes.
Counting chemical reaction networks with NAUTY
It is useful to have complete lists of nonisomorphic chemical reaction networks (CRNs) of a given size, with or without various restrictions. One may, for example, be interested in exploring how often certain dynamical behaviours occur in small CRNs, or wish to find examples to illustrate some aspect of the theory. In such cases, it is natural to examine one representative from each isomorphism class of CRNs. Inspired by the related project of Deckard et al (Enumeration and online library of mass-action reaction networks. http://arXiv.org/abs/0901.3067, 2009), this document outlines the methodology involved in listing all CRNs in various classes of interest including, for example, general CRNs, dynamically nontrivial CRNs, weakly reversible CRNs, fully open CRNs, etc. The accompanying data (i.e., lists of nonisomorphic CRNs in the various classes) is at https://reaction-networks.net/networks/. Note that both document and data are work in progress.
Ballot tilings and increasing trees
We study enumerations of Dyck and ballot tilings, which are tilings of a region determined by two Dyck or ballot paths. We give bijective proofs to two formulae of enumerations of Dyck tilings through Hermite histories. We show that one of the formulae is equal to a certain Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomial. For a ballot tiling, we establish formulae which are analogues of formulae for Dyck tilings. Especially, the generating functions have factorized expressions. The key tool is a planted plane tree and its increasing labellings. We also introduce a generalized perfect matching which is bijective to an Hermite history for a ballot tiling. By combining these objects, we obtain various expressions of a generating function of ballot tilings with a fixed lower path.

A meander is a topological configuration of a line and a simple closed curve in the plane (or a pair of simple closed curves on the 2-sphere) intersecting transversally. Meanders can be traced back to H. Poincaré and naturally appear in various areas of mathematics, theoretical physics and computational biology (in particular, they provide a model of polymer folding). Enumeration of meanders is an important open problem. The number of meanders with 2N crossings grows exponentially when N grows, but the longstanding problem on the precise asymptotics is still out of reach. We show that the situation becomes more tractable if one additionally fixes the topological type (or the total number of minimal arcs) of a meander. Then we are able to derive simple asymptotic formulas for the numbers of meanders as N tends to infinity. We also compute the asymptotic probability of getting a simple closed curve on a sphere by identifying the endpoints of two arc systems (one on each of the two hemispheres) along the common equator. The new tools we bring to bear are based on interpretation of meanders as square-tiled surfaces with one horizontal and one vertical cylinders. The proofs combine recent results on Masur-Veech volumes of the moduli spaces of meromorphic quadratic differentials in genus zero with our new observation that horizontal and vertical separatrix diagrams of integer quadratic differentials are asymptotically uncorrelated. The additional combinatorial constraints we impose in this article yield explicit polynomial asymptotics.
