On a $d$-degree Erdős-Ko-Rado Theorem
A family of subsets $\mathcal{F}$ is intersecting if $A \cap B \neq \emptyset$ for any $A, B \in \mathcal{F}$. In this paper, we show that for given integers $k > d \ge 2$ and $n \ge 2k+2d-3$, and any intersecting family $\mathcal{F}$ of $k$-subsets of $\{1, \cdots, n\}$, there exists a $d$-subset of $[n]$ contained in at most $\binom{n-d-1}{k-d-1}$ subsets of $\mathcal{F}$. This result, proved using spectral graph theory, gives a $d$-degree generalization of the celebrated Erdős-Ko-Rado Theorem, improving a theorem of Kupavskii.

On local antimagic total chromatic number of certain one point union of graphs
Let $G = (V,E)$ be a connected simple graph of order $p$ and size $q$. A bijection $f:V(G)\cup E(G)\to \{1,2,\ldots,p+q\}$ is called a local antimagic total labeling of $G$ if for any two adjacent vertices $u$ and $v$, we have $w(u)\ne w(v)$, where $w(u) = f(u) + \sum_{e\in E(u)} f(e)$ and $E(u)$ is the set of incident edge(s) of $u$. The local antimagic total chromatic number, denoted $χ_{lat}(G)$, is the minimum number of distinct weights over local antimagic total labeling of $G$. In this paper, we provide a correct proof and exact local antimagic total chromatic number of path and spider graphs given in [Local vertex antimagic total coloring of path graph and amalgamation of path, {\it CGANT J. Maths Appln.} {\bf 5(1)} 2024, DOI:10.25037/cgantjma.v5i1.109]. Further, we determined the local antimagic total chromatic number of spider graph with each leg of length at most 2. We also showed the existence of unicyclic and bicyclic graphs with local antimagic total chromatic number 3.
Coprime networks of the composite numbers: pseudo-randomness and synchronizability
Published in Discrete Applied Mathematics, 355(2024)96 • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we propose a network whose nodes are labeled by the composite numbers and two nodes are connected by an undirected link if they are relatively prime to each other. As the size of the network increases, the network will be connected whenever the largest possible node index $n\geq 49$. To investigate how the nodes are connected, we analytically describe that the link density saturates to $6/π^2$, whereas the average degree increases linearly with slope $6/π^2$ with the size of the network. To investigate how the neighbors of the nodes are connected to each other, we find the shortest path length will be at most 3 for $49\leq n\leq 288$ and it is at most 2 for $n\geq 289$. We also derive an analytic expression for the local clustering coefficients of the nodes, which quantifies how close the neighbors of a node to form a triangle. We also provide an expression for the number of $r$-length labeled cycles, which indicates the existence of a cycle of length at most $O(\log n)$. Finally, we show that this graph sequence is actually a sequence of weakly pseudo-random graphs. We numerically verify our observed analytical results. As a possible application, we have observed less synchronizability (the ratio of the largest and smallest positive eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix is high) as compared to Erdős-Rényi random network and Barabási-Albert network. This unusual observation is consistent with the prolonged transient behaviors of ecological and predator-prey networks which can easily avoid the global synchronization.
Disconnected Cliques in Derangement Graphs
We obtain a correspondence between pairs of $N\times N$ orthogonal Latin squares and pairs of disconnected maximal cliques in the derangement graph with $N$ symbols. Motivated by methods in spectral clustering, we also obtain modular conditions on fixed point counts of certain permutation sums for the existence of collections of mutually disconnected maximal cliques. We use these modular obstructions to analyze the structure of maximal cliques in $X_N$ for small values of $N$. We culminate in a short, elementary proof of the nonexistence of a solution to Euler's $36$ Officer Problem.

Laplacian pair state transfer in Q-graph
In 2018, Chen and Godsil proposed the concept of Laplacian perfect pair state transfer which is a brilliant generalization of Laplacian perfect state transfer. In this paper, we study the existence of Laplacian perfect pair state transfer in the Q-graph of an $r$-regular graph for $r\ge2$. We prove that the Q-graph of an $r$-regular graph does not have Laplacian perfect pair state transfer when $r+1$ is prime or a power of $2$. We also give a sufficient condition for Q-graph to have Laplacian pretty good pair state transfer.

The Demazure product extended to biwords
The symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ (and more generally, any Coxeter group) admits an associative operation known as the Demazure product. In this paper, we first extend the Demazure product to the (infinite) set of all biwords on $\{1, \ldots, n\}$, or equivalently, the set of all $n \times n$ nonnegative integer matrices. We define this product diagrammatically, via braid-like graphs we call kelp beds, since they significantly generalize the seaweeds introduced by Tiskin (2015). Our motivation for this extended Demazure product arises from optimization theory, in particular the semigroup of all $(n+1) \times (n+1)$ simple nonnegative integer Monge matrices equipped with the distance (i.e., min-plus) product. As our main result, we show that this semigroup of Monge matrices is isomorphic to the semigroup of biwords equipped with the extended Demazure product. We exploit this isomorphism to write down generating functions for the growth series of the Monge matrices with respect to certain natural matrix norms.

A note on quasi-transitive graphs quasi-isometric to planar (Cayley) graphs
Given a connected, locally finite, quasi-transitive graph $X$ which is quasi-isometric to a planar graph $Γ$, we remark that one can upgrade $Γ$ to be a planar Cayley graph, answering a question raised by Esperet--Giocanti and Hamann.

Rigidity of symmetric frameworks with non-free group actions on the vertices
For plane frameworks with reflection or rotational symmetries, where the group action is not necessarily free on the vertex set, we introduce a phase-symmetric orbit rigidity matrix for each irreducible representation of the group. We then use these generalised orbit rigidity matrices to provide necessary conditions for infinitesimal rigidity for frameworks that are symmetric with a cyclic group that acts freely or non-freely on the vertices. Moreover, for the reflection, the half-turn, and the three-fold rotational group in the plane, we establish complete combinatorial characterisations of symmetry-generic infinitesimally rigid frameworks. This extends well-known characterisations for these groups to the case when the group action is not necessarily free on the vertices. The presence of vertices that are fixed by non-trivial group elements requires the introduction of generalised versions of group-labelled quotient graphs leads to more refined types of combinatorial sparsity counts for characterising symmetry-generic infinitesimal rigidity.

Commuting graphs of $p$-adic matrices
We study the commuting graph of $n\times n$ matrices over the field of $p$-adics $\mathbb{Q}_p$, whose vertices are non-scalar $n\times n$ matrices with entries in $\mathbb{Q}_p$ and whose edges connect pairs of matrices that commute under matrix multiplication. We prove that this graph is connected if and only if $n\geq 3$, with $n$ neither prime nor a power of $p$. We also prove that in the case of $p=2$ and $n=2q$ for $q$ a prime with $q\geq 7$, the commuting graph has the maximum possible diameter of $6$; these are the first known such examples independent of the axiom of choice. We also find choices of $p$ and $n$ yielding diameter $4$ and diameter $5$ commuting graphs, and prove general bounds depending on $p$ and $n$.

On intersecting families of subgraphs of perfect matchings
The seminal Erdős--Ko--Rado (EKR) theorem states that if $\mathcal{F}$ is a family of $k$-subsets of an $n$-element set $X$ for $k\leq n/2$ such that every pair of subsets in $\mathcal{F}$ has a nonempty intersection, then $\mathcal{F}$ can be no bigger than the trivially intersecting family obtained by including all $k$-subsets of $X$ that contain a fixed element $x\in X$. This family is called the star centered at $x$. In this paper, we formulate and prove an EKR theorem for intersecting families of subgraphs of the perfect matching graph, the graph consisting of $n$ disjoint edges. This can be considered a generalization not only of the aforementioned EKR theorem but also of a signed variant of it, first stated by Meyer (1974), and proved separately by Deza--Frankl (1983) and Bollobás--Leader (1997). The proof of our main theorem relies on a novel extension of Katona's beautiful cycle method.
Rainbow connectivity of multilayered random geometric graphs
An edge-colored multigraph $G$ is rainbow connected if every pair of vertices is joined by at least one rainbow path, i.e., a path where no two edges are of the same color. In the context of multilayered networks we introduce the notion of multilayered random geometric graphs, from $h\ge 2$ independent random geometric graphs $G(n,r)$ on the unit square. We define an edge-coloring by coloring the edges according to the copy of $G(n,r)$ they belong to and study the rainbow connectivity of the resulting edge-colored multigraph. We show that $r(n)=\left(\frac{\log n}{n}\right)^{\frac{h-1}{2h}}$ is a threshold of the radius for the property of being rainbow connected. This complements the known analogous results for the multilayerd graphs defined on the Erdős-R\' enyi random model.
A threshold for relative hyperbolicity in random right-angled Coxeter groups
We consider the random right-angled Coxeter group $W_Γ$ whose presentation graph $Γ\sim \mathcal{G}_{n,p}$ is an Erd{\H o}s--Rényi random graph on $n$ vertices with edge probability $p=p(n)$. We establish that $p=1/\sqrt{n}$ is a threshold for relative hyperbolicity of the random group $W_Γ$. As a key step in the proof, we determine the minimal number of pairs of generators that must commute in a right-angled Coxeter group which is not relatively hyperbolic, a result which is of independent interest. We also show that there is an interval of edge probabilities of width $Ω(1/\sqrt{n})$ in which the random right-angled Coxeter group has precisely cubic divergence. This interval is between the thresholds for relative hyperbolicity (whence exponential divergence) and quadratic divergence. Moreover, a simple random walk on any Cayley graph of the random right-angled Coxeter group for $p$ in this interval satisfies a central limit theorem.

Graph-theoretical estimates of the diameters of the Rubik's Cube groups
A strict lower bound for the diameter of a symmetric graph is proposed, which is calculable with the order $n$ and other local parameters of the graph such as the degree $k\,(\geq 3)$, even girth $g\,(\geq 4)$, and number of $g$-cycles traversing a vertex, which are easily determined by inspecting a small portion of the graph (unless the girth is large). It is applied to the symmetric Cayley graphs of some Rubik's Cube groups of various sizes and metrics, yielding slightly tighter lower bounds of the diameters than those for random $k$-regular graphs proposed by Bollobás and de la Vega. They range from 60% to 77% of the correct diameters of large-$n$ graphs.

Real toric manifolds associated with chordal nestohedra
This paper investigates the rational Betti numbers of real toric manifolds associated with chordal nestohedra. We consider the poset topology of a specific poset induced from a chordal building set, and show its EL-shellability. Based on this, we present an explicit description using alternating $\mathcal{B}$-permutations for a chordal building set $\mathcal{B}$, transforming the computing Betti numbers into a counting problem. This approach allows us to compute the $a$-number of a finite simple graph through permutation counting when the graph is chordal. In addition, we provide detailed computations for specific cases such as real Hochschild varieties corresponding to Hochschild polytopes.

Degree-Similar Graphs
The degree matrix of a graph is the diagonal matrix with diagonal entries equal to the degrees of the vertices of $X$. If $X_1$ and $X_2$ are graphs with respective adjacency matrices $A_1$ and $A_2$ and degree matrices $D_1$ and $D_2$, we say that $X_1$ and $X_2$ are degree similar if there is an invertible real matrix $M$ such that $M^{-1}A_1M=A_2$ and $M^{-1}D_1M=D_2$. If graphs $X_1$ and $X_2$ are degree similar, then their adjacency matrices, Laplacian matrices, unsigned Laplacian matrices and normalized Laplacian matrices are similar. We first show that the converse is not true. Then, we provide a number of constructions of degree-similar graphs. Finally, we show that the matrices $A_1-μD_1$ and $A_2-μD_2$ are similar over the field of rational functions $\mathbb{Q}(μ)$ if and only if the Smith normal forms of the matrices $tI-(A_1-μD_1)$ and $tI-(A_2-μD_2)$ are equal.

On the Houdré-Tetali conjecture about an isoperimetric constant of graphs
Houdré and Tetali defined a class of isoperimetric constants $\varphi_p$ of graphs for $0 \leq p \leq 1$, and conjectured a Cheeger-type inequality for $\varphi_\frac12$ of the form $$λ_2 \lesssim \varphi_\frac12 \lesssim \sqrt{λ_2}$$ where $λ_2$ is the second smallest eigenvalue of the normalized Laplacian matrix. If true, the conjecture would be a strengthening of the hard direction of the classical Cheeger's inequality. Morris and Peres proved Houdré and Tetali's conjecture up to an additional log factor, using techniques from evolving sets. We present the following related results on this conjecture. - We provide a family of counterexamples to the conjecture of Houdré and Tetali, showing that the logarithmic factor is needed. - We match Morris and Peres's bound using standard spectral arguments. - We prove that Houdré and Tetali's conjecture is true for any constant $p$ strictly bigger than $\frac12$, which is also a strengthening of the hard direction of Cheeger's inequality. Furthermore, our results can be extended to directed graphs using Chung's definition of eigenvalues for directed graphs.

Basic Tetravalent Oriented Graphs of Independent-Cycle Type

The family $\mathcal{OG}(4)$ consisting of graph-group pairs $(Γ, G)$, where $Γ$ is a finite, connected, 4-valent graph admitting a $G$-vertex-, and $G$-edge-transitive, but not $G$-arc-transitive action, has recently been examined using a normal quotient methodology. A subfamily of $\mathcal{OG}(4)$ has been identified as `basic', due to the fact that all members of $\mathcal{OG}(4)$ are normal covers of at least one basic pair. We provide an explicit classification of those basic pairs $(Γ, G)$ which have at least two independent cyclic $G$-normal quotients (these are $G$-normal quotients which are not extendable to a common cyclic normal quotient).
Long cycles in percolated expanders
Given a graph $G$ and probability $p$, we form the random subgraph $G_p$ by retaining each edge of $G$ independently with probability $p$. Given $d\in\mathbb{N}$ and constants $0<c<1, \varepsilon>0$, we show that if every subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ of size exactly $\frac{c|V(G)|}{d}$ satisfies $|N(S)|\ge d|S|$ and $p=\frac{1+\varepsilon}{d}$, then the probability that $G_p$ does not contain a cycle of length $Ω(\varepsilon^2c^2|V(G)|)$ is exponentially small in $|V(G)|$. As an intermediate step, we also show that given $k,d\in \mathbb{N}$ and a constant $\varepsilon>0$, if every subset $S\subseteq V(G)$ of size exactly $k$ satisfies $|N(S)|\ge kd$ and $p=\frac{1+\varepsilon}{d}$, then the probability that $G_p$ does not contain a path of length $Ω(\varepsilon^2 kd)$ is exponentially small. We further discuss applications of these results to $K_{s,t}$-free graphs of maximal density.

Limit theorems for walks and triangles on Erdös-Rényi random graphs with large interaction radius
We study cumulants of numbers of $q$-step walks on Erdös-Rényi-type random graphs of long-range percolation radius model in the limit when the number of vertices $N$, concentration $c$, and the interaction radius $R$ tend to infinity. These cumulants can be associated with a formal cumulant expansion of the free energy of matrix models of exponential random graphs widely known in mathematical and theoretical physics. We show that in three different asymptotic regimes, the limiting values of $k$-th cumulants ${\cal F}_k^{(q)}$ exist and can be associated with one or another family of tree-type diagrams, in dependence of the asymptotic behavior of parameters $cR/N$ for $q$-step non-closed walks and $c^2R/N^2$ for 3-step closed walks, respectively. In certain cases, we obtain ${\cal F}_k^{(q)}$ in explicit form. These results allow us to prove Limit Theorems for the number of non-closed walks and for the number of triangles in corresponding ensembles of large random graphs. As a consequence, we indicate an asymptotic regime when in random graphs that we consider, the average vertex degree remains bounded while the total number of triangles infinitely increases, thus rigorously solving a graph collapse problem known in applications.

Uniform exclude distributions of Sidon sets
A Sidon set $S$ in $\mathbb{F}_2^n$ is a set such that the pairwise sums of distinct points are all distinct. The exclude points of a Sidon set $S$ are the sums of three distinct points in $S$, and the exclude multiplicity of a point in $\mathbb{F}_2^n \setminus S$ is the number of such triples in $S$ it is equal to. We call the function $d_S \colon \mathbb{F}_2^n \setminus S \to \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}$ taking points in $\mathbb{F}_2^n \setminus S$ to their exclude multiplicity the exclude distribution of $S$. We say that $d_S$ is uniform on $\mathcal{P}$ if $\mathcal{P}$ is an equally-sized partition $\mathcal{P}$ of $\mathbb{F}_2^n \setminus S$ such that $d_S$ takes the same values an equal number of times on every element of $\mathcal{P}$. In this paper, we use APN plateaued functions with all component functions unbalanced to construct Sidon sets $S$ in $(\mathbb{F}_2^n)^2$ whose exclude distributions are uniform on natural partitions of $(\mathbb{F}_2^n)^2 \setminus S$ into $2^n$ elements. We use this result and a result of Carlet to determine exactly what values the exclude distributions of the graphs of the Gold and Kasami functions take and how often they take these values.
