Consider a weighted directed acyclic graph $G$ having an upward planar drawing. We give a formula for the total weight of the families of non-intersecting paths on $G$ with any given starting and ending points. While the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot theorem gives the signed enumeration of these weights (according to the connection type), our result provides the straight count, expressing it as a determinant whose entries are signed counts of lattice paths with given starting and ending points.
Counting lattice paths by crossings and major index II: tracking descents via two-rowed arrays
We present refined enumeration formulas for lattice paths in $\mathbb{Z}^2$ with two kinds of steps, by keeping track of the number of descents (i.e., turns in a given direction), the major index (i.e., the sum of the positions of the descents), and the number of crossings. One formula considers crossings between a path and a fixed line; the other considers crossings between two paths. Building on the first paper of the series, which used lattice path bijections to give the enumeration with respect to major index and crossings, we obtain a refinement that keeps track of the number of descents. The proof is based on new bijections which rely on certain two-rowed arrays that were introduced by Krattenthaler.

We discuss connection between the XX0 Heisenberg spin chain and some aspects of enumerative combinatorics. The representation of the Bethe wave functions via the Schur functions allows to apply the theory of symmetric functions to the calculation of the correlation functions. We provide a combinatorial derivation of the dynamical auto-correlation functions and visualise them in terms of nests of self-avoiding lattice paths. Asymptotics of the auto-correlation functions are obtained in the double scaling limit provided that the evolution parameter is large.
Some bijections for lattice paths
We present three bijections, the first between little Schröder paths and a class of growth-constrained integer sequences, the second between lattice paths consisting of steps with nonnegative slope and another class of growth-constrained sequences, the third between a class of lattice paths with steps $(1,1)$ and $(1,-j\,),\ j\ge 1$, and a class with steps $(k,1),\ k\ge 1$, and $(1,-1)$.
A walk in my lattice path garden
Various lattice path models are reviewed. The enumeration is done using generating functions. A few bijective considerations are woven in as well. The kernel method is often used. Computer algebra was an essential tool. Some results are new, some have appeared before.
The lattice path models we treated, are: Hoppy's walks, the combinatorics of sequence A002212 in \cite{OEIS} (skew Dyck paths, Schröder paths, Hex-trees, decorated ordered trees, multi-edge trees, etc.) Weighted unary-binary trees also occur, and we could improve on our old paper on Horton-Strahler numbers \cite{FlPr86}, by using a different substitution. Some material on ternary trees appears as well, as on Motzkin numbers and paths (a model due to Retakh), and a new concept called amplitude that was found in \cite{irene}. Some new results on Deutsch paths in a strip are included as well. During the Covid period, I spent much time with this beautiful concept that I dare to call Deutsch paths, since Emeric Deutsch stands at the beginning with a problem that he posted in the American Mathematical Monthly some 20 years ago. Peaks and valleys, studied by Rainer Kemp 40 years under the names \textsc{max}-turns and \textsc{min}-turns, are revisited with a more modern approach, streamlining the analysis, relying on the `subcritical case' (named so by Philippe Flajolet), the adding a new slice technique and once again the kernel method.
Congruence for lattice path models with filter restrictions and long steps

We derive a path counting formula for two-dimensional lattice path model with filter restrictions in the presence of long steps, source and target points of which are situated near the filters. This solves a problem of finding an explicit formula for multiplicities of modules in tensor product decomposition of $T(1)^{\otimes N}$ for $U_q(sl_2)$ with divided powers, where $q$ is a root of unity. Combinatorial treatment of this problem calls for definition of congruence of regions in lattice path models, properties of which are explored in this paper.

We consider the skew Howe duality for the action of certain dual pairs of Lie groups $(G_1, G_2)$ on the exterior algebra $\bigwedge(\mathbb{C}^{n} \otimes \mathbb{C}^{k})$ as a probability measure on Young diagrams by the decomposition into the sum of irreducible representations. We prove a combinatorial version of this skew Howe for the pairs $(\mathrm{GL}_{n}, \mathrm{GL}_{k})$, $(\mathrm{SO}_{2n+1}, \mathrm{Pin}_{2k})$, $(\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}, \mathrm{Sp}_{2k})$, and $(\mathrm{Or}_{2n}, \mathrm{SO}_{k})$ using crystal bases, which allows us to interpret the skew Howe duality as a natural consequence of lattice paths on lozenge tilings of certain partial hexagonal domains. The $G_1$-representation multiplicity is given as a determinant formula using the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot lemma and as a product formula using Dodgson condensation. These admit natural $q$-analogs that we show equals the $q$-dimension of a $G_2$-representation (up to an overall factor of $q$), giving a refined version of the combinatorial skew Howe duality. Using these product formulas (at $q =1$), we take the infinite rank limit and prove the diagrams converge uniformly to the limit shape.
The Young matroid: A multiset extension of the Catalan matroid to arbitrary Young diagrams
Introduced by Ardila (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 2003), the Catalan matroid is obtained by defining the bases of the matroid using Dyck paths from $(0,0)$ to $(n,n)$. Further research has gone into the topic, with variants like lattice path matroids (introduced by Bonin, de Mier, and Noy (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 2003)) and shifted matroids (introduced independently by Klivans (2003), and Ardila) being studied intensively. In this short note, we introduce the Young matroid, an extension of the Catalan matroid, where the bases are defined using the standard Young tableaux of a fixed shape. This extension necessarily involves the consideration of independent multisets and multiset bases.
Multi-colored dimer models in one-dimension: lattice paths and generalized Rogers--Ramanujan identities
We define and study multi-colored dimer models on a segment and on a circle. The multivariate generating functions for the dimer models satisfy the recurrence relations similar to the one for Fibonacci numbers. We give closed formulae for the generating functions. We show that, in the large size limit with specializations of the formal variables, the generating functions exhibit the summations appearing in generalized Rogers--Ramanujan identities. Further, the generating functions of the dimer models have infinite product formulae for general values of formal variables in the large size limit. These formulae are generalizations of Rogers--Ramanujan identities for multi variables. We also give other several specializations which exhibit simple combinatorial formulae. The analysis of the correlation functions, which we call emptiness formation probabilities and moments, leads to the application of the formal power series associated to the Dyck, Motzkin and Schröder paths to the generating functions for the dimer models. We give descriptions of the generating functions of finite size in terms of these combinatorial objects, Dyck and Motzkin paths with statistics. We have three additional results. First, the convoluted generating functions for Fibonacci, Catalan and Motzkin numbers are shown to be expressed as generating functions of Fibonacci, Dyck and Motzkin words with the weights given by binomial coefficients. The second one is a weight preserving correspondence between a Motzkin path and a set of Dyck paths. The third one is a connection of the generating functions for the dimer models to the generating functions of independent sets of special classes of graphs.
Cylindric plane partitions, Lambda determinants, Commutants in semicircular systems
This thesis is divided into three parts. The first part deals with cylindric plane partitions. The second with lambda-determinants and the third with commutators in semi-circular systems. For more detailed abstract please see inside.
Cylindric plane partitions may be thought of as a natural generalization of reverse plane partitions. A generating series for the enumeration of cylindric plane partitions was recently given by Borodin. The first result of section one is a new bijective proof of Borodin's identity which makes use of Fomin's growth diagram framework for generalized RSK correspondences. The second result is a $(q,t)$-analog of Borodin's identity which extends previous work by Okada in the reverse plane partition case. The third result is an explicit combinatorial interpretation of the Macdonald weight occurring in the $(q,t)$-analog using the non-intersecting lattice path model for cylindric plane partitions.
Alternating sign matrices were discovered by Robbins and Rumsey whilst studying \emph{$λ$-determinants}. In the second part of this thesis we prove a multi-parameter generalization of the $λ$-determinant, generalizing a recent result by di Francesco. Like the original $λ$-determinant, our formula exhibits the \emph{Laurent phenomenon}.
Semicircular systems were first introduced by Voiculescu as a part of his study of von Neumann algebras. In the third part of this thesis we study certain commutator subalgebras of the semicircular system. We find a projection matrix with an interesting self-similar structure. Making use of our projection formula we given an alternative, elementary proof that the semicircular system is a factor.

In this paper, we consider a generalization of the Stirling number sequence of both kinds by using a specialization of a new family of symmetric functions. We give combinatorial interpretations for this symmetric functions by means of weighted lattice path and tilings. We also present some new convolutions involving the complete and elementary symmetric functions. Additionally, we introduce different families of set partitions to give combinatorial interpretations for the modular $s$-Stirling numbers.

We find the excluded minors for the minor-closed class of lattice path polymatroids as a subclass of the minor-closed class of Boolean polymatroids. Like lattice path matroids and Boolean polymatroids, there are infinitely many excluded minors, but they fall into a small number of easily-described types.
Lattice paths with a first return decomposition constrained by the maximal height of a pattern
We consider the system of equations $A_k(x)=p(x)A_{k-1}(x)(q(x)+\sum_{i=0}^k A_i(x))$ for $k\geq r+1$ where $A_i(x)$, $0\leq i \leq r$, are some given functions and show how to obtain a close form for $A(x)=\sum_{k\geq 0}A_k(x)$. We apply this general result to the enumeration of certain subsets of Dyck, Motzkin, skew Dyck, and skew Motzkin paths, defined recursively according to the first return decomposition with a monotonically non-increasing condition relative to the maximal ordinate reached by an occurrence of a given pattern $π$.

We continue the enumeration of plane lattice paths avoiding the negative quadrant initiated by the first author in [Bousquet-M{é}lou, 2016]. We solve in detail a new case, the king walks, where all 8 nearest neighbour steps are allowed. As in the two cases solved in [Bousquet-M{é}lou, 2016], the associated generating function is proved to differ from a simple, explicit D-finite series (related to the enumeration of walks confined to the first quadrant) by an algebraic one. The principle of the approach is the same as in [Bousquet-M{é}lou, 2016], but challenging theoretical and computational difficulties arise as we now handle algebraic series of larger degree. We also explain why we expect the observed algebraicity phenomenon to persist for 4 more models, for which the quadrant problem is solvable using the reflection principle.
Partial sums of the Gibonacci sequence
Recently, Chu studied some properties of the partial sums of the sequence $P^k(F_n)$, where $P(F_n)=\big(\sum_{i=1}^nF_i\big)_{n\geq1}$ and $(F_n)_{n\geq1}$ is the Fibonacci sequence, and gave its combinatorial interpretation. We generalize those results, introduce colored Schreier sets, and give another equivalent combinatorial interpretation by means of lattice path.
Lattice paths with infinitely many down steps -- the negative boundary model
We consider a variation of Dyck paths, where additionally to steps $(1,1)$ and $(1,-1)$ down-steps $(1,-j)$, for $j\ge2$ are allowed.
We give credits to Emeric Deutsch for that.
The enumeration of such objects living in a strip is performed. Methods are the kernel method and techniques from linear algebra.
Restricted Dyck Paths on Valleys Sequence
In this paper we study a subfamily of a classic lattice path, the \emph{Dyck paths}, called \emph{restricted $d$-Dyck} paths, in short $d$-Dyck. A valley of a Dyck path $P$ is a local minimum of $P$; if the difference between the heights of two consecutive valleys (from left to right) is at least $d$, we say that $P$ is a restricted $d$-Dyck path. The \emph{area} of a Dyck path is the sum of the absolute values of $y$-components of all points in the path. We find the number of peaks and the area of all paths of a given length in the set of $d$-Dyck paths. We give a bivariate generating function to count the number of the $d$-Dyck paths with respect to the the semi-length and number of peaks. After that, we analyze in detail the case $d=-1$. Among other things, we give both, the generating function and a recursive relation for the total area.
Baxter Tree-like Tableaux
Tree-like tableaux are objects in bijection with alternative or permutation tableaux. They have been the subject of a fruitful combinatorial study for the past few years. In the present work, we define and study a new subclass of tree-like tableaux enumerated by Baxter numbers. We exhibit simple bijective links between these objects and three other combinatorial classes: (packed or mosaic) floorplans, twisted Baxter permutations and triples of non-intersecting lattice paths. From several (and unrelated) works, these last objects are already known to be enumerated by Baxter numbers, and our main contribution is to provide a unifying approach to bijections between Baxter objects, where Baxter tree-like tableaux play the key role. We moreover get new enumerative results about alternating twisted Baxter permutations. Finally, we define a new subfamily of floorplans, which we call alternating floorplans, and we enumerate these combinatorial objects.
Lattice path enumeration for semi-magic squares of size three
We give formulas for enumerating directed paths in the graded poset of semi-magic squares of size three. We give two applications of these formulas: an advanced example of Vandermonde convolution for finite graded posets, and a direct method for deriving Regge symmetry formulas for un-normalized Clebsch-Gordan coefficients.

We derive a path counting formula for two-dimensional lattice path model on a plane with filter restrictions. A filter is a line that restricts the path passing it to one of possible directions. Moreover, each path that touches this line is assigned a special weight. The periodic filter restrictions are motivated by the problem of tensor power decomposition for representations of quantum $\mathfrak{sl}_2$ at roots of unity. Our main result is the explicit formula for the weighted number of paths from the origin to a fixed point between two filters in this model.
