$2$-Neighbour-Transitive Codes with Small Blocks of Imprimitivity

A code $C$ in the Hamming graph $\varGamma=H(m,q)$ is $2\it{\text{-neighbour-transitive}}$ if ${\rm Aut}(C)$ acts transitively on each of $C=C_0$, $C_1$ and $C_2$, the first three parts of the distance partition of $V\varGamma$ with respect to $C$. Previous classifications of families of $2$-neighbour-transitive codes leave only those with an affine action on the alphabet to be investigated. Here, $2$-neighbour-transitive codes with minimum distance at least $5$ and that contain "small" subcodes as blocks of imprimitivity are classified. When considering codes with minimum distance at least $5$, completely transitive codes are a proper subclass of $2$-neighbour-transitive codes. Thus, as a corollary of the main result, completely transitive codes satisfying the above conditions are also classified.
Semistable subcategories for tiling algebras

Semistable subcategories were introduced in the context of Mumford's GIT and interpreted by King in terms of representation theory of finite dimensional algebras. Ingalls and Thomas later showed that for finite dimensional algebras of Dynkin and affine type, the poset of semistable subcategories is isomorphic to the corresponding poset of noncrossing partitions. We show that semistable subcategories defined by tiling algebras, introduced by Coelho Sim{õ}es and Parsons, are in bijection with noncrossing tree partitions, introduced by the second author and McConville. Moreover, this bijection defines an isomorphism of the posets on these objects. Our work recovers that of Ingalls and Thomas in Dynkin type $A$.
An Improved Algorithm for Counting Graphical Degree Sequences

We present an improved version of a previous efficient algorithm that computes the number $D(n)$ of zero-free graphical degree sequences of length $n$. A main ingredient of the improvement lies in a more efficient way to compute the function $P(N,k,l,s)$ of Barnes and Savage. We further show that the algorithm can be easily adapted to compute the $D(i)$ values for all $i\le n$ in a single run. Theoretical analysis shows that the new algorithm to compute all $D(i)$ values for $i\le n$ is a constant times faster than the previous algorithm to compute a single $D(n)$. Experimental evaluations show that the constant of improvement is about 10. We also perform simulations to estimate the asymptotic order of $D(n)$ by generating uniform random samples from the set of $E(n)$ integer partitions of fixed length $n$ with even sum and largest part less than $n$ and computing the proportion of them that are graphical degree sequences. The known numerical results of $D(n)$ for $n\le 290$ together with the known bounds of $D(n)$ and simulation results allow us to make an informed guess about its unknown asymptotic order. The techniques for the improved algorithm can be applied to compute other similar functions that count the number of graphical degree sequences of various classes of graphs of order $n$ and that all involve the function $P(N,k,l,s)$.
A simple bijection for enhanced, classical, and 2-distant k-noncrossing partitions

In this note, we give a simple extension map from partitions of subsets of [n] to partitions of [n+1], which sends $δ$-distant k-crossings to $(δ+1)$-distant k-crossings (and similarly for nestings). This map provides a combinatorial proof of the fact that the numbers of enhanced, classical, and 2-distant k-noncrossing partitions are each related to the next via the binomial transform. Our work resolves a recent conjecture of Zhicong Lin and generalizes earlier reduction identities for partitions.
The analytic rank of tensors and its applications

The analytic rank of a tensor, first defined by Gowers and Wolf in the context of higher-order Fourier analysis, is defined to be the logarithm of the bias of the tensor. We prove that it is a subadditive measure of rank: that is, the analytic rank of the sum of two tensors is at most the sum of their individual analytic ranks.
This analytic property turns out to have surprising applications: (i) common roots of tensors are always positively correlated; and (ii) the slice rank and partition rank, which were defined recently in the resolution of the cap-set problem in Ramsey theory, can be replaced by the analytic rank.

For a set of nonnegative integers $c_1, \ldots, c_k$, a $(c_1, c_2,\ldots, c_k)$-coloring of a graph $G$ is a partition of $V(G)$ into $V_1, \ldots, V_k$ such that for every $i$, $1\le i\le k, G[V_i]$ has maximum degree at most $c_i$. We prove that all planar graphs without 4-cycles and no less than two edges between triangles are $(2,0,0)$-colorable.

A strong edge-coloring of a graph $G=(V,E)$ is a partition of its edge set $E$ into induced matchings. We study bipartite graphs with one part having maximum degree at most $3$ and the other part having maximum degree $Δ$. We show that every such graph has a strong edge-coloring using at most $3 Δ$ colors. Our result confirms a conjecture of Brualdi and Quinn Massey ~\cite{[BQ]} for this class of bipartite graphs.
Packing spanning rigid subgraphs with restricted degrees
Let $G$ be a graph and let $l$ be an integer-valued function on subsets of $V(G)$. The graph $G$ is said to be $l$-partition-connected, if for every partition $P$ of $V(G)$, $e_G(P)\ge \sum_{A\in P} l(A)-l(V(G))$, where $e_G(P)$ denotes the number of edges of $G$ joining different parts of $P$. We say that $G$ is $l$-rigid, if it contains a spanning $l$-partition-connected subgraph $H$ with $|E(H)|=\sum_{v\in V(H)} l(v)-l(V(H))$. In this paper, we investigate decomposition of graphs into spanning partition-connected and spanning rigid subgraphs. As a consequence, we improve a recent result due to Gu (2017) by proving that every $(4kp-2p+2m)$-connected graph $G$ with $k\ge 2$ has a spanning subgraph $H$ containing a packing of $m$ spanning trees and $p$ spanning $(2k-1)$-edge-connected subgraphs $H_1,\ldots, H_p$ such that for each vertex $v$, every $H_i-v$ remains $(k-1)$-edge-connected and also $d_H(v)\le \lceil \frac{d_G(v)}{2}\rceil +2kp-p+m$. From this result, we refine a result on arc-connected orientations of graphs.

We consider Boltzmann random triangulations coupled to the Ising model on their faces, under Dobrushin boundary conditions and at the critical point of the model. The first part of this paper computes explicitly the partition function of this model by solving its Tutte's equation, extending a previous result by Bernardi and Bousquet-Mélou to the model with Dobrushin boundary conditions. We show that the perimeter exponent of the model is 7/3 in contrast to the exponent 5/2 for uniform triangulations. In the second part, we show that the model has a local limit in distribution when the two components of the Dobrushin boundary tend to infinity one after the other. The local limit is constructed explicitly using the peeling process along an Ising interface. Moreover, we show that the main interface in the local limit touches the (infinite) boundary almost surely only finitely many times, a behavior opposite to that of the Bernoulli percolation on uniform maps. Some scaling limits closely related to the perimeters of finite clusters are also obtained.

We present a bijection between permutation matrices and descending plane partitions without special parts, which respects the quadruple of statistics considered by Behrend, Di Francesco and Zinn--Justin. This bijection involves the inversion words of permutations and the "usual" representation of descending plane partitions as families of non--intersec\-ting lattice paths.

We establish partition regularity of the generalised Pythagorean equation in five or more variables. Furthermore, we show how Rado's characterisation of a partition regular equation remains valid over the set of positive $k$th powers, provided the equation has at least $(1+o(1))k\log k$ variables. We thus completely describe which diagonal forms are partition regular and which are not, given sufficiently many variables. In addition, we prove a supersaturated version of Rado's theorem for a linear equation restricted either to squares minus one or to logarithmically-smooth numbers.
Partition implications of a new three parameter $q$-series identity

A generalization of a beautiful $q$-series identity found in the unorganized portion of Ramanujan's second and third notebooks is obtained. As a consequence, we derive a new three-parameter identity which is a rich source of partition-theoretic information. In particular, we use this identity to obtain a generalization of a recent result of Andrews, Garvan and Liang, which itself generalizes the famous result of Fokkink, Fokkink and Wang. This three-parameter identity also leads to several new weighted partition identities as well as a natural proof of a recent result of Garvan. This natural proof gives interesting number-theoretic information along the way. We also obtain a new result consisting of an infinite series involving a special case of Fine's function $F(a,b;t)$, namely, $F(0,q^n;cq^n)$. For $c=1$, this gives Andrews' famous identity for $\mathrm{spt}(n)$ whereas for $c=-1, 0$ and $q$, it unravels new relations that the divisor function $d(n)$ has with other partition-theoretic functions such as the largest parts function $\mathrm{lpt}(n)$.

We give an asymptotic estimate for the number of partitions of a set of $n$ elements, whose block sizes avoid a given set $\mathcal{S}$ of natural numbers. As an application, we derive an estimate for the number of partitions of a set with $n$ elements, which have the property that its blocks can be combined to form subsets of any size between $1$ and $n$.
Product formulas for certain skew tableaux

The hook length formula gives a product formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a partition shape. The number of standard Young tableaux of a skew shape does not always have a product formula. However, for some special skew shapes, there is a product formula. Recently, Morales, Pak and Panova joint with Krattenthaler conjectured a product formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of shape $λ/μ$ for $λ=((2a+c)^{c+a},(a+c)^a)$ and $μ=(a+1,a^{a-1},1)$. They also conjectured a product formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a certain skew shifted shape. In this paper we prove their conjectures using Selberg-type integrals. We also give a generalization of MacMahon's box theorem and a product formula for the trace generating function for a certain skew shape, which is a generalization of a recent result of Morales, Pak and Panova.
Strong Pseudo Transitivity and Intersection Graphs
A directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is {\it strongly pseudo transitive} if there is a partition $\{A,E-A\}$ of $E$ so that graphs $G_1=(V,A)$ and $G_2=(V,E-A)$ are transitive, and additionally, if $ab\in A$ and $bc\in E $ implies that $ac\in E$. A strongly pseudo transitive graph $G=(V,E)$ is strongly pseudo transitive of the first type, if $ab\in A$ and $bc\in E$ implies $ac\in A$. An undirected graph is co-strongly pseudo transitive (co-strongly pseudo transitive of the first type) if its complement has an orientation which is strongly pseudo transitive (co-strongly pseudo transitive of the first type). Our purpose is show that the results in computational geometry \cite{CFP, Lu} and intersection graph theory \cite{Ga2, ES} can be unified and extended, using the notion of strong pseudo transitivity. As a consequence the general algorithmic framework in \cite{Sh} is applicable to solve the maximum independent set in $O(n^3)$ time in a variety of problems, thereby, avoiding case by case lengthily arguments for each problem. We show that the intersection graphs of axis parallel rectangles intersecting a diagonal line from bottom, and half segments are co-strongly pseudo transitive. In addition, we show that the class of the interval filament graphs is co-strongly transitive of the first type, and hence the class of polygon circle graphs which is contained in the class of interval filament graphs (but contains the classes of chordal graphs, circular arc, circle, and outer planar graphs), and the class of incomparability graphs are strongly transitive of the first type. For class of chordal graphs we give two different proofs, using two different characterizations, verifying that they are co-strongly transitive of the first type. We present some containment results.
Packing spanning partition-connected subgraphs with small degrees
Let $G$ be a graph with $X\subseteq V(G)$ and let $l$ be an intersecting supermodular subadditive integer-valued function on subsets of $V(G)$. Let $λ\in [0,1]$ be a real number and let $η$ be a real function on $X$. In this paper, we show that if $G$ is $l$-partition-connected and for all $S\subseteq X$, $$Θ_l(G \setminus S) \le \sum_{v\in S} (η(v) -2l(v))+l(V(G))+l(S)-λ(e_G(S))+l(S)),$$ then $G$ has an $l$-partition-connected spanning subgraph $H$ such that for each vertex $v\in X$, $d_H(v)\le \lceil η(v) -λl(v) \rceil $, where $e_G(S)$ denotes the number of edges of $G$ with both ends in $S$ and $Θ_l(G \setminus S)$ denotes the maximum number of all $\sum_{A\in P} l(A)-e_{G\setminus S}(P)$ taken over all partitions $P$ of $V(G)\setminus S$. Finally, we show that if $H$ is an $(l_1+\cdots +l_m)$-partition-connected graph, then it can be decomposed into $m$ edge-disjoint spanning subgraphs $H_1,\ldots, H_m$ such that every graph $H_i$ is $l_i$-partition-connected, where $l_1, l_2,\ldots, l_m$ are $m$ intersecting supermodular subadditive integer-valued functions on subsets of $V(H)$. These results generalize several known results.

Alon, Bohman, Holzman and Kleitman proved that any partition of a $d$-dimensional discrete box into proper sub-boxes must consist of at least $2^d$ sub-boxes. Recently, Leader, Milićević and Tan considered the question of how many odd-sized proper boxes are needed to partition a $d$-dimensional box of odd size, and they asked whether the trivial construction consisting of $3^d$ boxes is best possible. We show that approximately $2.93^d$ boxes are enough, and consider some natural generalisations.

Set partitions closed under certain operations form a tensor category. They give rise to certain subgroups of the free orthogonal quantum group $O_n^+$, the so called easy quantum groups, introduced by Banica and Speicher in 2009. This correspondence was generalized to two-colored set partitions, which, in addition, assign a black or white color to each point of a set. Globally colorized categories of partitions are those categories that are invariant with respect to arbitrary permutations of colors. This article presents a classification of globally colorized categories. In addition, we show that the corresponding unitary quantum groups can be constructed from the orthogonal ones using tensor complexification.

The Legendre-Stirling numbers of the second kind were introduced by Everitt et al. in the spectral theory of powers of the Legendre differential expressions. In this paper, we provide a combinatorial code for Legendre-Stirling set partitions. As an application, we obtain combinatorial expansions of the Legendre-Stirling numbers of both kinds. Moreover, we present grammatical descriptions of the Jacobi-Stirling numbers of both kinds.

We solve multiple conjectures by Byszewski and Ulas about the sum of base $b$ digits function. In order to do this, we develop general results about summations over the sum of digits function. As a corollary, we describe an unexpected new result about the Prouhet-Tarry-Escott problem. In some cases, this allows us to partition fewer than $b^N$ values into $b$ sets $\{S_1,\ldots,S_b\}$, such that $$\sum_{s\in S_1}s^k = \sum_{s\in S_2}s^k = \cdots = \sum_{s\in S_b}s^k $$ for $0\leq k \leq N-1$. The classical construction can only partition $b^N$ values such that the first $N$ powers agree. Our results are amenable to a computational search, which may discover new, smaller, solutions to this classical problem.
