Near optimal constructions of frameproof codes

Frameproof codes are a class of secure codes that were originally introduced in the pioneering work of Boneh and Shaw in the context of digital fingerprinting. They can be used to enhance the security and credibility of digital content. Let $M_{c,l}(q)$ denote the largest cardinality of a $q$-ary $c$-frameproof code with length $l$. Based on an intriguing observation that relates $M_{c,l}(q)$ to the renowned Erdős Matching Conjecture in extremal set theory, in 2003, Blackburn posed an open problem on the precise value of the limit $R_{c,l}=\lim_{q\rightarrow\infty}\frac{M_{c,l}(q)}{q^{\lceil l/c \rceil}}$. By combining several ideas from the probabilistic method, we present a lower bound for $M_{c,l}(q)$, which, together with an upper bound of Blackburn, completely determines $R_{c,l}$ for {\it all} fixed $c,l$, and resolves the above open problem in the full generality. We also present an improved upper bound for $M_{c,l}(q)$.
Liftable Point-Line Configurations: Defining Equations and Irreducibility of Associated Matroid and Circuit Varieties

We study point-line configurations through the lens of projective geometry and matroid theory. Our focus is on their realisation spaces, where we introduce the concepts of liftable and quasi-liftable configurations, exploring cases in which an $n$-tuple of collinear points can be lifted to a non-degenerate realisation of a point-line configuration. We show that forest configurations are liftable and characterise the realisation space of liftable configurations as the solution set of certain linear systems of equations. Moreover, we study the Zariski closure of the realisation spaces of liftable and quasi-liftable configurations, known as matroid varieties, and establish their irreducibility. Additionally, we compute an irreducible decomposition for their corresponding circuit varieties. Applying these liftability properties, we present a procedure generate some of the defining equations of the associated matroid varieties. As corollaries, we provide a geometric representation for the defining equations of two specific examples: the quadrilateral set and the $3\times4$ grid. While the polynomials for the latter were previously computed using specialised algorithms tailored for this configuration, the geometric interpretation of these generators was missing. We compute a minimal generating set for the corresponding ideals.
Scalable Structure Learning for Sparse Context-Specific Systems
Several approaches to graphically representing context-specific relations among jointly distributed categorical variables have been proposed, along with structure learning algorithms. While existing optimization-based methods have limited scalability due to the large number of context-specific models, the constraint-based methods are more prone to error than even constraint-based directed acyclic graph learning algorithms since more relations must be tested. We present an algorithm for learning context-specific models that scales to hundreds of variables. Scalable learning is achieved through a combination of an order-based Markov chain Monte-Carlo search and a novel, context-specific sparsity assumption that is analogous to those typically invoked for directed acyclic graphical models. Unlike previous Markov chain Monte-Carlo search methods, our Markov chain is guaranteed to have the true posterior of the variable orderings as the stationary distribution. To implement the method, we solve a first case of an open problem recently posed by Alon and Balogh. Future work solving increasingly general instances of this problem would allow our methods to learn increasingly dense models. The method is shown to perform well on synthetic data and real world examples, in terms of both accuracy and scalability.

In 2022, using methods from ergodic theory, Kra, Moreira, Richter, and Robertson resolved a longstanding conjecture of Erdős about sumsets in large subsets of the natural numbers. In this paper, we extend this result to several important classes of amenable groups, including all finitely generated virtually nilpotent groups, and all abelian groups $(G,+)$ with the property that the subgroup $2G := \{g+g : g\in G\}$ has finite index. We prove that in any group $G$ from the above classes, any $A\subset G$ with positive upper Banach density contains a shifted product set of the form $\{tb_ib_j\colon i<j\}$, for some infinite sequence $(b_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ and some $t\in G$. In fact, we show this result for all amenable groups that posses a property which we call square absolute continuity. Our results provide answers to several questions and conjectures posed in a recent survey of Kra, Moreira, Richter and Robertson.

We construct a bijection between certain Deodhar components of a braid variety constructed from an affine Kac-Moody group of type $A_{n-1}$ and vertex-labeled trees on $n$ vertices. By an argument of Galashin, Lam, and Williams using Opdam's trace formula in the affine Hecke algebra and an identity due to Haglund, we obtain an elaborate new proof for the enumeration of the number of vertex-labeled trees on $n$ vertices.

A Roman $\{2\}$-dominating function (R2F) is a function $f:V\rightarrow \{0,1,2\}$ with the property that for every vertex $v\in V$ with $f(v)=0$ there is a neighbor $u$ of $v$ with $f(u)=2$, or there are two neighbors $x,y$ of $v$ with $f(x)=f(y)=1$. A total Roman $\{2\}$-dominating function (TR2DF) is an R2F $f$ such that the set of vertices with $f(v)>0$ induce a subgraph with no isolated vertices. The weight of a TR2DF is the sum of its function values over all vertices, and the minimum weight of a TR2DF of $G$ is the total Roman $\{2\}$-domination number $γ_{tR2}(G).$ In this paper, we initiate the study of total Roman $\{2\}$-dominating functions, where properties are established. Moreover, we present various bounds on the total Roman $\{2\}$-domination number. We also show that the decision problem associated with $γ_{tR2}(G)$ is NP-complete for bipartite and chordal graphs. {Moreover, we show that it is possible to compute this parameter in linear time for bounded clique-width graphs (including tres).}
Random optimization problems at fixed temperatures

This article considers a class of disordered mean-field combinatorial optimization problems. We focus on the Gibbs measure, where the inverse temperature does not vary with the size of the graph and the edge weights are sampled from a general distribution under mild assumptions. Our results consist of the Law of Large Numbers and Central Limit Theorems for the log-partition function, the weight of a typical configuration, and the Gibbs average in both quenched and annealed forms. We also derive quenched Poisson convergence for the size of the intersection of two independent samples, yielding replica symmetry of the model. Applications cover popular models from the literature, such as the Minimal Matching Problem, Traveling Salesman Problem, and Minimal Spanning Tree Problem, on a sequence of deterministic and random dense block graphs of increasing size.
Mad families of Gowers' infinite block sequences
Call a subset of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ small if it does not contain a copy of $\langle{A\rangle}$ for some infinite block sequence $A \in \mathbf{FIN}_k^{[\infty]}$. Gowers' $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ theorem asserts that the set of small subsets of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ forms an ideal, so it is sensible to consider almost disjoint families of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$ with respect to the ideal of small subsets of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$. We shall show that $\mathfrak{a}_{\mathbf{FIN}_k}$, the smallest possible cardinality of an infinite mad family of $\mathbf{FIN}_k$, is uncountable.
Perfect stable regularity lemma and slice-wise stable hypergraphs
We investigate various forms of (model-theoretic) stability for hypergraphs and their corresponding strengthenings of the hypergraph regularity lemma with respect to partitions of vertices. On the one hand, we provide a complete classification of the various possibilities in the ternary case. On the other hand, we provide an example of a family of slice-wise stable 3-hypergraphs so that for no partition of the vertices, any triple of parts has density close to 0 or 1. In particular, this addresses some questions and conjectures of Terry and Wolf. We work in the general measure theoretic context of graded probability spaces, so all our results apply both to measures in ultraproducts of finite graphs, leading to the aforementioned combinatorial applications, and to commuting definable Keisler measures, leading to applications in model theory.
Tanaka rigidity of graph Lie algebras
We give sufficient conditions on a labeled direct graph to determine whether the Tanaka prolongation of its associated Lie algebra is infinite-dimensional. In the case that all directed edges are labeled differently, the corresponding graph Lie algebra is of infinite type if and only if the graph has a vertex of degree one.
Affine vector space partitions and spreads of quadrics

An affine spread is a set of subspaces of $\mathrm{AG}(n, q)$ of the same dimension that partitions the points of $\mathrm{AG}(n, q)$. Equivalently, an {\em affine spread} is a set of projective subspaces of $\mathrm{PG}(n, q)$ of the same dimension which partitions the points of $\mathrm{PG}(n, q) \setminus H_{\infty}$; here $H_{\infty}$ denotes the hyperplane at infinity of the projective closure of $\mathrm{AG}(n, q)$. Let $\mathcal{Q}$ be a non degenerate quadric of $H_\infty$ and let $Π$ be a generator of $\mathcal{Q}$, where $Π$ is a $t$-dimensional projective subspace. An affine spread $\mathcal{P}$ consisting of $(t+1)$-dimensional projective subspaces of $\mathrm{PG}(n, q)$ is called hyperbolic, parabolic or elliptic (according as $\mathcal{Q}$ is hyperbolic, parabolic or elliptic) if the following hold: each member of $\mathcal{P}$ meets $H_\infty$ in a distinct generator of $\mathcal{Q}$ disjoint from $Π$; elements of $\mathcal{P}$ have at most one point in common; if $S, T \in \mathcal{P}$, $|S \cap T| = 1$, then $\langle S, T \rangle \cap \mathcal{Q}$ is a hyperbolic quadric of $\mathcal{Q}$. In this note it is shown that a hyperbolic, parabolic or elliptic affine spread of $\mathrm{PG}(n, q)$ is equivalent to a spread of $\mathcal{Q}^+(n+1, q)$, $\mathcal{Q}(n+1, q)$ or $\mathcal{Q}^-(n+1, q)$, respectively.
Classifying abelian groups through acyclic matchings

The inquiry into identifying sets of monomials that can be eliminated from a generic homogeneous polynomial via a linear change of coordinates was initiated by E. K. Wakeford. This linear algebra problem prompted C. K. Fan and J. Losonczy to introduce the notion of acyclic matchings in the additive group $\mathbb{Z}^n$, subsequently extended to abelian groups by the latter author. Alon, Fan, Kleitman, and Losonczy established the acyclic matching property for $\mathbb{Z}^n$. This note aims to classify all abelian groups with respect to the acyclic matching property.

We give a new combinatorial proof of Parraud's formula for the asymptotic expansion in powers of $1/N^2$ for the expected trace of polynomials of several independent $N \times N$ GUE matrices, which expresses the result using a mixture of free difference quotients, introducing new freely independent semicircular variables, and integration with respect to parameters. Our approach streamlines the statement of the formula while clarifying its relationship to the combinatorial genus expansion.
On The Number Of Labeled Bipartite Graphs
Let $I$ and $O$ denote two sets of vertices, where $I\cap O =\emptyset$, $|I| = n$, $|O| = r$, and $B_u(n,r)$ denote the set of unlabeled graphs whose edges connect vertices in $I$ and $O$. Recently, it was established in\cite{atmacaoruc2018} that the following two-sided equality holds, \begin{equation} \label{mainResult} \displaystyle \frac{\binom{r+2^{n}-1}{r}}{n!}\, \le\, |B_u(n,r)|\, \le\, 2\frac{\binom{r+2^{n}-1}{r}}{n!},\, n < r.\nonumber \end{equation} and exact formulas were provided in~\cite{atmaca2017size} for $|B_u(2,r)|$ and $|B_u(3,r)|.$ In this paper, these results are extended to various families of labeled bipartite graphs.

The evolution of certain pair state in a quantum network with isomorphic branches, governed by the Heisenberg $XY$ Hamiltonian, depends solely on the local structure, and it remains unaffected even if the global structure is altered. All graphs which enable high-fidelity vertex state transfer can be considered as isomorphic branches of a quantum network to exhibit high-fidelity pair state transfer. The results are used to unveil the existence of pair state transfer in various graphs, including paths, cycles, and others.
Differential algebra of polytopes and inversion formulas
We use the differential algebra of polytopes to explain the known remarkable relation of the combinatorics of the associahedra and permutohedra with the universal compositional and multiplicative inversion formulas for the formal power series. This approach allows to single out the associahedra and permutohedra among all graph-associahedra and emphasizes the significance of the differential equations for special sequences of simple polytopes derived earlier by one of the authors. We discuss also the link with the geometry of Deligne-Mumford moduli spaces $\bar M_{0,n}$ and the interpretation of the combinatorics of cyclohedra in relation with the classical Faà di Bruno's formula.
On Distance and Strong Metric Dimension of the Modular Product

The modular product $G\diamond H$ of graphs $G$ and $H$ is a graph on vertex set $V(G)\times V(H)$. Two vertices $(g,h)$ and $(g',h')$ of $G\diamond H$ are adjacent if $g=g'$ and $hh'\in E(H)$, or $gg'\in E(G)$ and $h=h'$, or $gg'\in E(G)$ and $hh'\in E(H)$, or (for $g\neq g'$ and $h\neq h'$) $gg'\notin E(G)$ and $hh'\notin E(H)$. We derive the distance formula for the modular product and then describe all edges of the strong resolving graph of $G\diamond H$. This is then used to obtain the strong metric dimension of the modular product on several, infinite families of graphs.
Spectral Gaps for Jacobi Matrices on Graphs

On the convergence of the graph sequence $\left\{ C^m(D) \right\}_{m=1}^{\infty}$ for a multipartite tournament $D$
Given a positive integer $m$, the $m$-step competition graph of a digraph $D$, denoted by $C^m(D)$, has the same vertex set as $D$ and has an edge between vertices $u$ and $v$ if and only if there exists a vertex $w$ such that there exist directed walks of length $m$ from $u$ to $w$ and from $v$ to $w$, respectively. In this paper, we completely characterize the convergence of $\{C^m(D)\}_{m=1}^{\infty}$ for a multipartite tournament $D$ based on the last nontrivial strong component of $D$. Furthermore, not only do we determine the limit in the case of convergence, but also in the event of divergence, we specify how $C^m(D)$ changes periodically depending on the value of $m$. Our results extend the work of Jung et al. [On the limit of the sequence $\{C^m (D)\}_{m=1}^{\infty}$ for a multipartite tournament $D$. Discrete Appl. Math., 340:1--13, 2023] which addresses the case of the last strong component being nontrivial, thereby completing the convergence analysis of $\{C^m(D)\}_{m=1}^{\infty}$ for a multipartite tournament $D$.
Our results can also be expressed in terms of matrix sequence $\{A^m(A^T)^m\}_{m=1}^{\infty}$ for the adjacency matrix $A$ of $D$ and this part is also covered in the text.

We derive two formulas for the weighted sums of rooted spanning forests of particular sequence of graphs by using the matrix tree theorem. We consider cycle graphs with edges so called the pendant edges. One of our formula can be described as a variable transformation of the Chebyshev polynomial. They have particular algebraic properties.
