We consider the action of the symmetric group $S_n$ on the permutahedron $Π_n$. We prove that if $σ$ is a permutation of $S_n$ which has $m$ cycles of lengths $l_1, \ldots, l_m$, then the subpolytope of $Π_n$ fixed by $σ$ has normalized volume $n^{m-2} \gcd(l_1, \ldots, l_m)$.

We study the space $X_h$ of Hermitian matrices having staircase form and the given simple spectrum. There is a natural action of a compact torus on this space. Using generalized Toda flow, we show that $X_h$ is a smooth manifold and its smooth type is independent of the spectrum. Morse theory is then used to show the vanishing of odd degree cohomology, so that $X_h$ is an equivariantly formal manifold. The equivariant and ordinary cohomology of $X_h$ are described using GKM-theory. The main goal of this paper is to show the connection between the manifolds $X_h$ and the semisimple Hessenberg varieties well-known in algebraic geometry. Both the spaces $X_h$ and Hessenberg varieties form wonderful families of submanifolds in the complete flag variety. There is a certain symmetry between these families which can be generalized to other submanifolds of the flag variety.

Peterson and Proctor obtained a formula which expresses the multivariate generating function for $P$-partitions on a $d$-complete poset $P$ as a product in terms of hooks in $P$. In this paper, we give a skew generalization of Peterson--Proctor's hook formula, i.e., a formula for the generating function for $(P \setminus F)$-partitions for a $d$-complete poset $P$ and its order filter $F$, by using the notion of excited diagrams. Our proof uses the Billey-type formula and the Chevalley-type formula in the equivariant $K$-theory of Kac--Moody partial flag varieties. This generalization provides an alternate proof of Peterson--Proctor's hook formula.
Affine Schubert calculus and double coinvariants
We define an action of the double coinvariant algebra
$DR_n$ on the equivariant Borel-Moore homology of the affine flag variety
$\widetilde{Fl}_n$ in type $A$, which has an explicit form in terms of
the left and right action of the (extended) affine Weyl group and multiplication by Chern classes.
Up to first order in the augmentation ideal, we show that it coincides with the
action of the Cherednik algebra on the equivariant homology of
the homogeneous affine Springer fiber $\widetilde{S}_{n,m} \subset \widetilde{Fl}_n$
due to Yun and the second author, and therefore
preserves the non-equivariant Borel-Moore homology groups $H_*(\widetilde{S}_{n,m})\hookrightarrow H_*(\widetilde{Fl}_n)$.
We then define a geometric filtration
$F_{a} H_*(\widetilde{S}_{n,n+1})=H_*(\widetilde{S}(a))$
by closed subspaces $\widetilde{S}(a)\subset \widetilde{S}_{n,n+1}$,
which we prove recovers the Garsia-Stanton descent order on $DR_n$. We use this to deduce an explicit monomial basis of $DR_n$, as well as an independent proof of the (non-compositional) Shuffle Theorem.
The Action of Young Subgroups on the Partition Complex

We study the restrictions, the strict fixed points, and the strict quotients of the partition complex $|Π_n|$, which is the $Σ_n$-space attached to the poset of proper nontrivial partitions of the set $\{1,\ldots,n\}$.
We express the space of fixed points $|Π_n|^G$ in terms of subgroup posets for general $G\subset Σ_n$ and prove a formula for the restriction of $|Π_n|$ to Young subgroups $Σ_{n_1}\times \dots\times Σ_{n_k}$. Both results follow by applying a general method, proven with discrete Morse theory, for producing equivariant branching rules on lattices with group actions. We uncover surprising links between strict Young quotients of $|Π_n|$, commutative monoid spaces, and the cotangent fibre in derived algebraic geometry. These connections allow us to construct a cofibre sequence relating various strict quotients $|Π_n|^\diamond\wedge_{Σ_n} (S^\ell)^{\wedge n}$ and give a combinatorial proof of a splitting in derived algebraic geometry. Combining all our results, we decompose strict Young quotients of $|Π_n|$ in terms of "atoms" $|Π_d|^\diamond\wedge_{Σ_d} (S^\ell)^{\wedge d}$ for $\ell$ odd and compute their homology. We thereby also generalise Goerss' computation of the algebraic André-Quillen homology of trivial square-zero extensions from $\mathbb{F}_2$ to $\mathbb{F}_p$ for $p$ an odd prime.

We present a statistical mechanical model whose random variables are solid partitions, i.e. Young diagrams built by stacking up four dimensional hypercubes. Equivalently, it can be viewed as the model of random tessellations of ${\bf R}^{3}$ by squashed cubes of four fixed orientations. The model computes the refined index of a system of D0-branes in the presence of $D8$-$\overline{D8}$ system, with a $B$-field strong enough to support the bound states. Mathematically, it is the equivariant K-theoretic version of integration over the Hilbert scheme of points on ${\bf C}^{4}$ and its higher rank analogues, albeit the definition is real, not complex analytic. The model is a mother of all random partition models, including the equivariant Donaldson-Thomas theory and the four dimensional instanton counting. Finally, a version of our model with infinite solid partitions with four fixed plane partition asymptotics is the vertex contribution to the equivariant count of instantons on toric Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
The conjectured partition function of the model is presented. We have checked it up to six instantons (which is one step beyond the checks of the celebrated P.~MacMahon's failed conjectures of the early XX century). A specialization of the formula is our earlier (2004) conjecture on the equivariant K-theoretic Donaldson-Thomas theory, proven by A.~Okounkov in 2015.

We study Hilbert schemes of points on a smooth projective Calabi-Yau 4-fold $X$. We define $\mathrm{DT}_4$ invariants by integrating the Euler class of a tautological vector bundle $L^{[n]}$ against the virtual class. We conjecture a formula for their generating series, which we prove in certain cases when $L$ corresponds to a smooth divisor on $X$. A parallel equivariant conjecture for toric Calabi-Yau 4-folds is proposed. This conjecture is proved for smooth toric divisors and verified for more general toric divisors in many examples.
Combining the equivariant conjecture with a vertex calculation, we find explicit positive rational weights, which can be assigned to solid partitions. The weighted generating function of solid partitions is given by $\exp(M(q)-1)$, where $M(q)$ denotes the MacMahon function.
Topological K-Theory for Hilbert Scheme Analogs
In geometric representation theory, it is common to compute equivariant $K$ theory of schemes like $Hilb^n ( \mathbb{A}^2 )$ or $Hilb^n (X)$ for an ALE resolution $X \to \mathbb{A}^2 / Γ$. If we abandon the algebraic nature and just look at this homotopically we see close relatives of $BS_n$ and $B(Γ\wr S_n)$. Therefore we compute the topological K theory of these classifying spaces to fill in a small gap in the literature.
On inverse powers of graphs and topological implications of Hedetniemi's conjecture

We consider a natural graph operation $Ω_k$ that is a certain inverse (formally: the right adjoint) to taking the k-th power of a graph. We show that it preserves the topology (the $\mathbb{Z}_2$-homotopy type) of the box complex, a basic tool in topological combinatorics. Moreover, we prove that the box complex of a graph G admits a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-map (an equivariant, continuous map) to the box complex of a graph H if and only if the graph $Ω_k(G)$ admits a homomorphism to H, for high enough k.
This allows to show that if Hedetniemi's conjecture on the chromatic number of graph products were true for n-colorings, then the following analogous conjecture in topology would also also true: If X,Y are $\mathbb{Z}_2$-spaces (finite $\mathbb{Z}_2$-simplicial complexes) such that X x Y admits a $\mathbb{Z}_2$-map to the (n-2)-dimensional sphere, then X or Y itself admits such a map. We discuss this and other implications, arguing the importance of the topological conjecture.
Cubical-like geometry of quasi-median graphs and applications to geometric group theory
The class of quasi-median graphs is a generalisation of median graphs, or equivalently of CAT(0) cube complexes. The purpose of this thesis is to introduce these graphs in geometric group theory. In the first part of our work, we extend the definition of hyperplanes from CAT(0) cube complexes, and we show that the geometry of a quasi-median graph essentially reduces to the combinatorics of its hyperplanes. In the second part, we exploit the specific structure of the hyperplanes to state combination results. The main idea is that if a group acts in a suitable way on a quasi-median graph so that clique-stabilisers satisfy some non-positively curved property $\mathcal{P}$, then the whole group must satisfy $\mathcal{P}$ as well. The properties we are interested in are mainly (relative) hyperbolicity, (equivariant) $\ell^p$-compressions, CAT(0)-ness and cubicality. In the third part, we apply our general criteria to several classes of groups, including graph products, Guba and Sapir's diagram products, some wreath products, and some graphs of groups. Graph products are our most natural examples, where the link between the group and its quasi-median graph is particularly strong and explicit; in particular, we are able to determine precisely when a graph product is relatively hyperbolic.

We describe the torus-equivariant cohomology of weighted partial flag orbifolds ${\mathrm{w}}Σ$ of type $A$. We establish counterparts of several results known for the partial flag variety that collectively constitute what we refer to as ``Schubert Calculus on ${\mathrm{w}}Σ$''. For the weighed Schubert classes in ${\mathrm{w}}Σ$, we give the Chevalley's formula. In addition, we define the weighted analogue of double Schubert polynomials and give the corresponding Chevalley--Monk's formula.
Proof of a conjecture of Morales-Pak-Panova on reverse plane partitions

Using equivariant cohomology theory, Naruse obtained a hook length formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of skew shape $λ/μ$. Morales, Pak and Panova found two $q$-analogues of Naruse's formula respectively by counting semistandard Young tableaux of shape $λ/μ$ and reverse plane partitions of shape $λ/μ$. When $λ$ and $μ$ are both staircase shape partitions, Morales, Pak and Panova conjectured that the generating function of reverse plane partitions of shape $λ/ μ$ can be expressed as a determinant whose entries are related to $q$-analogues of the Euler numbers. The objective of this paper is to prove this conjecture.

Kneser's 1955 conjecture -- proven by Lovász in 1978 -- asserts that in any partition of the $k$-subsets of $\{1, 2, \dots, n\}$ into $n-2k-3$ parts, one part contains two disjoint sets. Schrijver showed that one can restrict to significantly fewer $k$-sets and still observe the same intersection pattern. Alon, Frankl, and Lovász proved a different generalization of Kneser's conjecture for $r$ pairwise disjoint sets. Dolnikov generalized Lovász' result to arbitrary set systems, while Kříž did the same for the $r$-fold extension of Kneser's conjecture. Here we prove a common generalization of all of these results. Moreover, we prove additional strengthenings by determining the chromatic number of certain sparse stable Kneser hypergraphs, and further develop a general approach to establishing lower bounds for chromatic numbers of hypergraphs using a combination of methods from equivariant topology and intersection results for convex hulls of points in Euclidean space.

Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson (CSM) classes generalize to singular and/or noncompact varieties the classical total homology Chern class of the tangent bundle of a smooth compact complex manifold. The theory of CSM classes has been extended to the equivariant setting by Ohmoto. We prove that for an arbitrary complex projective manifold $X$, the homogenized, torus equivariant CSM class of a constructible function $\varphi$ is the restriction of the characteristic cycle of $\varphi$ via the zero section of the cotangent bundle of $X$. This extends to the equivariant setting results of Ginzburg and Sabbah. We specialize $X$ to be a (generalized) flag manifold $G/B$. In this case CSM classes are determined by a Demazure-Lusztig (DL) operator. We prove a `Hecke orthogonality' of CSM classes, determined by the DL operator and its Poincar{é} adjoint. We further use the theory of holonomic $\mathcal{D}_X$-modules to show that the characteristic cycle of a Verma module, restricted to the zero section, gives the CSM class of the corresponding Schubert cell. Since the Verma characteristic cycles naturally identify with the Maulik and Okounkov's stable envelopes, we establish an equivalence between CSM classes and stable envelopes; this reproves results of Rim{á}nyi and Varchenko. As an application, we obtain a Segre type formula for CSM classes. In the non-equivariant case this formula is manifestly positive, showing that the expansion in the Schubert basis of the CSM class of a Schubert cell is effective. This proves a previous conjecture by Aluffi and Mihalcea, and it extends previous positivity results by J. Huh in the Grassmann manifold case. Finally, we generalize all of this to partial flag manifolds $G/P$.
On Baire Measurable Colorings of Group Actions

The field of descriptive combinatorics investigates the question, to what extent can classical combinatorial results and techniques be made topologically or measure-theoretically well-behaved? This paper examines a class of coloring problems induced by actions of countable groups on Polish spaces, with the requirement that the desired coloring be Baire measurable. We show that the set of all such coloring problems that admit a Baire measurable solution for a particular free action $α$ is complete analytic (apart from the trivial situation when the orbit equivalence relation induced by $α$ is smooth on a comeager set); this result confirms the "hardness" of finding a topologically well-behaved coloring. When $α$ is the shift action, we characterize the class of problems for which $α$ has a Baire measurable coloring in purely combinatorial terms; it turns out that closely related concepts have already been studied in graph theory with no relation to descriptive set theory. We remark that our framework permits a wholly dynamical interpretation (with colorings corresponding to equivariant maps to a given subshift), so this article can also be viewed as a contribution to generic dynamics.
Asymptotic distributions associated to piecewise quasi-polynomials

J. DeLoera-T. McAllister and K. D. Mulmuley-H. Narayanan-M. Sohoni independently proved that determining the vanishing of Littlewood-Richardson coefficients has strongly polynomial time computational complexity. Viewing these as Schubert calculus numbers, we prove the generalization to the Littlewood-Richardson polynomials that control equivariant cohomology of Grassmannians. We construct a polytope using the edge-labeled tableau rule of H. Thomas-A. Yong. Our proof then combines a saturation theorem of D. Anderson-E. Richmond-A. Yong, a reading order independence property, and E. Tardos' algorithm for combinatorial linear programming.

The Rees product of partially ordered sets was introduced by Björner and Welker. Using the theory of lexicographic shellability, Linusson, Shareshian and Wachs proved formulas, of significance in the theory of gamma-positivity, for the dimension of the homology of the Rees product of a graded poset $P$ with a certain $t$-analogue of the chain of the same length as $P$. Equivariant generalizations of these formulas are proven in this paper, when a group of automorphisms acts on $P$, and are applied to establish the Schur gamma-positivity of certain symmetric functions arising in algebraic and geometric combinatorics.

We obtain generators for the kernel of the natural map from the corresponding ring of Schubert polynomials to the (equivariant) cohomology ring of symplectic and orthogonal flag manifolds.
