A categorification for the signed chromatic polynomial
Published • View Publication • BIB
By coloring a signed graph by signed colors, one obtains the signed chromatic polynomial of the signed graph. For each signed graph we construct graded cohomology groups whose graded Euler characteristic yields the signed chromatic polynomial of the signed graph. We show that the cohomology groups satisfy a long exact sequence which corresponds to signed deletion-contraction rule. This work is motivated by Helme-Guizon and Rong's construction of the categorification for the chromatic polynomial of unsigned graphs.

The birational Lalanne-Kreweras involution
Published in Algebraic Combinatorics, Volume 5 (2022) no. 2, pp. 227-265 • View Publication • BIB
The Lalanne-Kreweras involution is an involution on the set of Dyck paths which combinatorially exhibits the symmetry of the number of valleys and major index statistics. We define piecewise-linear and birational extensions of the Lalanne-Kreweras involution. Actually, we show that the Lalanne-Kreweras involution is a special case of a more general operator, called rowvacuation, which acts on the antichains of any graded poset. Rowvacuation, like the closely related and more studied rowmotion operator, is a composition of toggles. We obtain the piecewise-linear and birational lifts of the Lalanne-Kreweras involution by using the piecewise-linear and birational toggles of Einstein and Propp. We show that the symmetry properties of the Lalanne-Kreweras involution extend to these piecewise-linear and birational lifts.
Homological and combinatorial aspects of virtually Cohen--Macaulay sheaves
Published • View Publication • BIB
When studying a graded module $M$ over the Cox ring of a smooth projective toric variety $X$, there are two standard types of resolutions commonly used to glean information: free resolutions of $M$ and vector bundle resolutions of its sheafification. Each approach comes with its own challenges. There is geometric information that free resolutions fail to encode, while vector bundle resolutions can resist study using algebraic and combinatorial techniques. Recently, Berkesch, Erman, and Smith introduced virtual resolutions, which capture desirable geometric information and are also amenable to algebraic and combinatorial study. The theory of virtual resolutions includes a notion of a virtually Cohen--Macaulay property, though tools for assessing which modules are virtually Cohen--Macaulay have only recently started to be developed. In this paper, we continue this research program in two related ways. The first is that, when $X$ is a product of projective spaces, we produce a large new class of virtually Cohen--Macaulay Stanley--Reisner rings, which we show to be virtually Cohen--Macaulay via explicit constructions of appropriate virtual resolutions reflecting the underlying combinatorial structure. The second is that, for an arbitrary smooth projective toric variety $X$, we develop homological tools for assessing the virtual Cohen--Macaulay property. Some of these tools give exclusionary criteria, and others are constructive methods for producing suitably short virtual resolutions. We also use these tools to establish relationships among the arithmetically, geometrically, and virtually Cohen--Macaulay properties.

Enumeration of paths in Young--Fibonacci graph
Published • View Publication • BIB
The Young--Fibonacci graph is the Hasse diagram of one of the two (along with the Young lattice) 1-differential graded modular lattices. This explains the interest to path enumeration problems in this graph. We obtain a formula for the number of paths between two vertices of the Young--Fibonacci graph which is polynomial with respect to the minimum of their ranks.

Drinfeld Hecke algebras for symmetric groups in positive characteristic
Published in Communications in Algebra, Vol. 50, Issue 5 (2022), p. 1925--1941 • View Publication • BIB
We investigate deformations of skew group algebras arising from the action of the symmetric group on polynomial rings over fields of arbitrary characteristic. Over the real or complex numbers, Lusztig's graded affine Hecke algebra and analogs are all isomorphic to Drinfeld Hecke algebras, which include the symplectic reflection algebras and rational Cherednik algebras. Over fields of prime characteristic, new deformations arise that capture both a disruption of the group action and also a disruption of the commutativity relations defining the polynomial ring. We classify deformations for the symmetric group acting in its natural (reducible) reflection representation.

A modular characterization of supersolvable lattices
Published in Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 150 (2022), 31-39 • View Publication • BIB
We characterize supersolvable lattices in terms of a certain modular type relation. McNamara and Thomas earlier characterized this class of lattices as those graded lattices having a maximal chain that consists of left-modular elements. Our characterization replaces the condition of gradedness with a second modularity condition on the maximal chain of left-modular elements.

Filtered matchings and simplicial complexes
To any finite simplicial complex X, we associate a natural filtration starting from Chari and Joswig's discrete Morse complex and abutting to the matching complex of X. This construction leads to the definition of several homology theories, which we compute in a number of examples. We also completely determine the graded object associated to this filtration in terms of the homology of simpler complexes. This last result provides some connections to the number of vertex-disjoint cycles of a graph.

Stability phenomena for resonance arrangements
Published • View Publication • BIB
We prove that the ith graded pieces of the Orlik-Solomon algebras or Cordovil algebras of resonance arrangements form a finitely generated FS^op-module, thus obtaining information about the growth of their dimensions and restrictions on the irreducible representations of symmetric groups that they contain.

Convex bodies and graded families of monomial ideals
Published • View Publication • BIB
We show that the mixed volumes of arbitrary convex bodies are equal to mixed multiplicities of graded families of monomial ideals, and to normalized limits of mixed multiplicities of monomial ideals. This result evinces the close relation between the theories of mixed volumes from convex geometry and mixed multiplicities from commutative algebra.

Cyclic sieving and orbit harmonics
Published • View Publication • BIB
Orbit harmonics is a tool in combinatorial representation theory which promotes the (ungraded) action of a linear group $G$ on a finite set $X$ to a graded action of $G$ on a polynomial ring quotient by viewing $X$ as a $G$-stable point locus in $\mathbb{C}^n$. The cyclic sieving phenomenon is a notion in enumerative combinatorics which encapsulates the fixed-point structure of the action of a finite cyclic group $C$ on a finite set $X$ in terms of root-of-unity evaluations of an auxiliary polynomial $X(q)$. We apply orbit harmonics to prove cyclic sieving results.

Hall Lie algebras of toric monoid schemes
Published • View Publication • BIB
We associate to a projective $n$-dimensional toric variety $X_Δ$ a pair of co-commutative (but generally non-commutative) Hopf algebras $H^α_X, H^{T}_X$. These arise as Hall algebras of certain categories $\Coh^α(X), \Coh^T(X)$ of coherent sheaves on $X_Δ$ viewed as a monoid scheme - i.e. a scheme obtained by gluing together spectra of commutative monoids rather than rings. When $X_Δ$ is smooth, the category $\Coh^T(X)$ has an explicit combinatorial description as sheaves whose restriction to each $\mathbb{A}^n$ corresponding to a maximal cone $σ\in Δ$ is determined by an $n$-dimensional generalized skew shape. The (non-additive) categories $\Coh^α(X), \Coh^T(X)$ are treated via the formalism of proto-exact/proto-abelian categories developed by Dyckerhoff-Kapranov. The Hall algebras $H^α_X, H^{T}_X$ are graded and connected, and so enveloping algebras $H^α_X \simeq U(\n^α_X)$, $H^{T}_X \simeq U(\n^{T}_X)$, where the Lie algebras $\n^α_X, \n^{T}_X$ are spanned by the indecomposable coherent sheaves in their respective categories. We explicitly work out several examples, and in some cases are able to relate $\n^T_X$ to known Lie algebras. In particular, when $X = \mathbb{P}^1$, $\n^T_X$ is isomorphic to a non-standard Borel in $\mathfrak{gl}_2 [t,t^{-1}]$. When $X$ is the second infinitesimal neighborhood of the origin inside $\mathbb{A}^2$, $\n^T_X$ is isomorphic to a subalgebra of $\mathfrak{gl}_2[t]$. We also consider the case $X=\mathbb{P}^2$, where we give a basis for $\n^T_X$ by describing all indecomposable sheaves in $\Coh^T(X)$.
Bigrassmannian permutations and Verma modules
Published in Selecta Mathematica volume 27:55 (2021) • View Publication • BIB
We show that bigrassmannian permutations determine the socle of the cokernel of an inclusion of Verma modules in type $A$. All such socular constituents turn out to be indexed by Weyl group elements from the penultimate two-sided cell. Combinatorially, the socular constituents in the cokernel of the inclusion of a Verma module indexed by $w\in S_n$ into the dominant Verma module are shown to be determined by the essential set of $w$ and their degrees in the graded picture are shown to be computable in terms of the associated rank function. As an application, we compute the first extension from a simple module to a Verma module.

Cohomological rigidity for Fano Bott manifolds
Published • View Publication • BIB
In the present paper, we characterize Fano Bott manifolds up to diffeomorphism in terms of three operations on matrix. More precisely, we prove that given two Fano Bott manifolds $X$ and $X'$, the following conditions are equivalent: (1) the upper triangular matrix associated to $X$ can be transformed into that of $X'$ by those three operations; (2) $X$ and $X'$ are diffeomorphic; (3) the integral cohomology rings of $X$ and $X'$ are isomorphic as graded rings. As a consequence, we affirmatively answer the cohomological rigidity problem for Fano Bott manifolds.

Essential graded algebra over polynomial rings with real exponents
Published • View Publication • BIB
The geometric and algebraic theory of monomial ideals and multigraded modules is initiated over real-exponent polynomial rings and, more generally, monoid algebras for real polyhedral cones. The main results include the generalization of Nakayama's lemma; complete theories of minimal and dense primary, secondary, and irreducible decomposition, including associated and attached faces; socles and tops; minimality and density for downset hulls, upset covers, and fringe presentations; Matlis duality; and geometric analysis of staircases. Modules that are semialgebraic or piecewise-linear (PL) have the relevant property preserved by functorial constructions as well as by minimal primary and secondary decompositions. And when the modules in question are subquotients of the group itself, such as monomial ideals and quotients modulo them, minimal primary and secondary decompositions are canonical, as are irreducible decompositions up to the new real-exponent notion of density.

Intersection Graph of Graded ideals
Published • View Publication • BIB
In this article we introduce and study the intersection graph of graded ideals of graded rings. The intersection graph of $G-$graded ideals of a graded ring $(R,G)$ is a simple graph, denoted by $Gr_G(R)$, whose vertices are the nontrivial graded ideals and two ideals are adjacent if they are not trivially intersected. We study graphical properties for these graphs such as connectivity, regularity, completeness, domination numbers, and girth. These intersection graphs for faithful, strong, and first strong gradings are also discussed. In addition, we investigate intersection graphs of $\mathbb{Z}_2-$graded idealization, and we deal with intersection graph of graded ideals when the grading group is an ordered groups.

Special idempotents and projections
Published in Semigroup Froum (2021) • View Publication • BIB
We define, for any special matching of a finite graded poset, an idempotent, regressive and order preserving function. We consider the monoid generated by such functions. The idempotents of this monoid are called special idempotents. They are interval retracts. Some of them realize a kind of parabolic map and are called special projections. We prove that, in Eulerian posets, the image of a special projection, and its complement, are graded induced subposets. In a finite Coxeter group, all projections on right and left parabolic quotients are special projections, and some projections on double quotients too. We extend our results to special partial matchings.

Order-sensitive domination in partially ordered sets
Published in Order, Vol:40, 2023, 157-172 • View Publication • BIB
For a (finite) partially ordered set (poset) $P$, we call a dominating set $D$ in the comparability graph of $P$, an order-sensitive dominating set in $P$ if either $x\in D$ or else $a<x<b$ in $P$ for some $a,b\in D$ for every element $x$ in $P$ which is neither maximal nor minimal, and denote by $γ_{os}(P)$, the least size of an order-sensitive dominating set of $P$. For every graph $G$ and integer $k\geq 2$, we associate a graded poset $\mathscr{P}_k(G)$ of height $k$, and prove that $γ_{os}(\mathscr{P}_3(G))=γ_{\text{R}}(G)$ and $γ_{os}(\mathscr{P}_4(G))=2γ(G)$ hold, where $γ(G)$ and $γ_{\text{R}}(G)$ are the domination and Roman domination number of $G$, respectively. Apart from these, we introduce the notion of a Helly poset, and prove that when $P$ is a Helly poset, the computation of order-sensitive domination number of $P$ can be interpreted as a weighted clique partition number of a graph, the middle graph of $P$. Moreover, we show that the order-sensitive domination number of a poset $P$ exactly corresponds to the biclique vertex-partition number of the associated bipartite transformation of $P$. Finally, we prove that the decision problem of order-sensitive domination on posets of arbitrary height is NP-complete, which is obtained by using a reduction from EQUAL-$3$-SAT problem.

Demazure crystals and the Schur positivity of Catalan functions
Published • View Publication • BIB
Catalan functions, the graded Euler characteristics of certain vector bundles on the flag variety, are a rich class of symmetric functions which include $k$-Schur functions and parabolic Hall-Littlewood polynomials. We prove that Catalan functions indexed by partition weight are the characters of $U_q(\widehat{\mathfrak{sl}}_\ell)$-generalized Demazure crystals as studied by Lakshmibai-Littelmann-Magyar and Naoi. We obtain Schur positive formulas for these functions, settling conjectures of Chen-Haiman and Shimozono-Weyman. Our approach more generally gives key positive formulas for graded Euler characteristics of certain vector bundles on Schubert varieties by matching them to characters of generalized Demazure crystals.

Graded Betti numbers of some circulant graphs
Published in Rocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics, 51(6), 1919-1940, 2021 • View Publication • BIB
Let $G$ be the circulant graph $C_n(S)$ with $S \subseteq \{1, 2, \dots, \lfloor \frac{n}{2} \rfloor\}$, and let $I(G)$ denote the edge ideal in the polynomial ring $R=\mathbb{K}[x_0, x_1, \dots, x_{n-1}]$ over a field $\mathbb{K}$. In this paper, we compute the $\mathbb{N}$-graded Betti numbers of the edge ideals of three families of circulant graphs $C_n(1,2,\dots,\widehat{j},\dots,\lfloor \frac{n}{2} \rfloor)$, $C_{lm}(1,2,\dots,\widehat{2l},\dots, \widehat{3l},\dots,\lfloor \frac{lm}{2} \rfloor)$ and $C_{lm}(1,2,\dots,\widehat{l},\dots,\widehat{2l},\dots, \widehat{3l},\dots,\lfloor \frac{lm}{2} \rfloor)$. Other algebraic and combinatorial properties like regularity, projective dimension, induced matching number and when such graphs are well-covered, Cohen-Macaulay, Sequentially Cohen-Macaulay, Buchsbaum and $S_2$ are also discussed.

A differential algebra and the homotopy type of the complement of a toric arrangement

We show that the rational homotopy type of the complement of a toric arrangement is completely determined by two sets of combinatorial data. This is obtained by introducing a differential graded algebra over Q whose minimal model is equivalent to the Sullivan minimal model of the arrangement.
