Riordan Groups in higher Dimensions
The classical Riordan groups associated to a given commutative ring are groups of infinite matrices (called Riordan arrays) associated to pairs of formal power series in one variable. The Fundamental Theorem of Riordan Arrays relates matrix multiplication to two group actions on such series, namely formal (convolution) multiplication and formal composition. We define the analogous Riordan groups involving formal power series in several variables, and establish the analogue of the Fundamental Theorem in that context. We discuss related groups of Laurent series and pose some questions.

Consider equipping an alphabet $\mathcal{A}$ with a group action that partitions the set of words into equivalence classes which we call patterns. We answer standard questions for the Penney's game on patterns and show non-transitivity for the game on patterns as the length of the pattern tends to infinity. We also analyze bounds on the pattern-based Conway leading number and expected wait time, and further explore the game under the cyclic and symmetric group actions.
On the Alternating runs polynomial in type B and D Coxeter Groups
Wilf showed that the the alternating runs polynomial $R_n(t)$ counting the number of permutations in the Symmetric group is divisible by $(1+t)^m$ where $m = \lfloor (n-2)/2 \rfloor$. Recently, Bóna gave a group action based proof. Type B and D analogues of Wilf's result are known. In this note, we extend Bóna's proof to prove the type B and D analogue.

We investigate strictly developable simple complexes of groups with arbitrary local groups, or equivalently, group actions admitting a strict fundamental domain. We introduce a new method for computing the cohomology of such groups. We also generalise Bestvina's construction to obtain a polyhedral complex equivariantly homotopy equivalent to the standard development of the lowest possible dimension.
As applications, for a group acting chamber transitively on a building of type $(W,S)$, we show that its Bredon cohomological dimension is equal to the virtual cohomological dimension of $W$ and give a realisation of the building of the lowest possible dimension.
We introduce the notion of a reflection-like action, and use it to give a new family of counterexamples to the strong form of Brown's conjecture on the equality of virtual cohomological dimension and Bredon cohomological dimension for proper actions.
We show that the fundamental group $G$ of a simple complex of groups acts on a tree with stabilisers generating a family of subgroups $\mathcal{F}$ if and only if its Bredon cohomological dimension with respect to $\mathcal{F}$ is at most one. This confirms a folklore conjecture under the assumption that a model for the classifying space $E_{\mathcal{F}}G$ of $G$ for the family $\mathcal{F}$ has a strict fundamental domain.
In order to handle complexes of groups arising from arbitrary group actions, we define a number of combinatorial invariants such as the block poset, which may be of independent interest. We also derive a general formula for Bredon cohomological dimension for a group $G$ admitting a cocompact model for $E_{\mathcal{F}}G$. As a consequence of both, we obtain a simple formula for proper cohomological dimension of $\mathrm{CAT}(0)$ groups whose actions admit a strict fundamental domain.

We consider bases for the cohomology space of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties, consisting of the classes that naturally arise from the Bialynicki-Birula decomposition of the Hessenberg varieties. We give an explicit combinatorial description of the support of each class, which enables us to compute the symmetric group actions on the classes in our bases. We then successfully apply the results to the permutohedral varieties to explicitly write down each class and to construct permutation submodules that constitute summands of a decomposition of cohomology space of each degree. This resolves the problem posed by Stembridge on the geometric construction of permutation module decomposition and also the conjecture posed by Chow on the construction of bases for the equivariant cohomology spaces of permutohedral varieties.

Latin tableaux are a generalization of Latin squares, which first appeared in the early 2000's in a paper of Chow, Fan, Goemans, and Vondrák. Here, we extend the notion of isotopy, a permutation group action, from Latin squares to Latin tableaux. We define isotopy graphs for Latin tableaux, which encode the structure of orbits under the isotopy action, and investigate the relationship between the shape of a Latin tableau and the structure of its isotopy graph. Our main result shows that for any positive integer $d$, there is a Latin tableau whose isotopy graph is a $d$-dimensional cube. We show that most isotopy graphs are triangle-free, and we give a characterization of all the Latin tableaux for which the isotopy graph contains a triangle. We also give a formula for the degree of a vertex of each component of an isotopy graph which depends on both the shape of the Latin Tableaux and the filling.
A combinatorial formula for Sahi, Stokman, and Venkateswaran's generalization of Macdonald polynomials

Sahi, Stokman, and Venkateswaran have constructed, for each positive integer $n$, a family of Laurent polynomials depending on parameters $q$ and $k$ (in addition to $\lfloor n/2\rfloor$ "metaplectic parameters"), such that the $n=1$ case recovers the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials and the $q\rightarrow\infty$ limit yields metaplectic Iwahori-Whittaker functions with arbitrary Gauss sum parameters. In this paper, we study these new polynomials, which we call SSV polynomials, in the case of $GL_r$. We apply a result of Ram and Yip in order to give a combinatorial formula for the SSV polynomials in terms of alcove walks. The formula immediately shows that the SSV polynomials satisfy a triangularity property with respect to a version of the Bruhat order, which in turn gives an independent proof that the SSV polynomials are a basis for the space of Laurent polynomials. The result is also used to show that the SSV polynomials have \emph{fewer} terms than the corresponding Macdonald polynomials. We also record an alcove walk formula for the natural generalization of the permuted basement Macdonald polynomials. We then construct a symmetrized variant of the SSV polynomials: these are symmetric with respect to a conjugate of the Chinta-Gunnells Weyl group action and reduce to symmetric Macdonald polynomials when $n=1$. We obtain an alcove walk formula for the symmetrized polynomials as well. Finally, we calculate the $q\rightarrow 0$ and $q\rightarrow \infty$ limits of the SSV polynomials and observe that our combinatorial formula can be written in terms of alcove walks with only positive and negative folds respectively. In both of these $q$-limit cases, we also observe a positivity result for the coefficients.

Let $Γ$ be a simple undirected graph on a finite vertex set and let $A$ be its adjacency matrix. Then $Γ$ is {\it singular} if $A$ is singular. The problem of characterising singular graphs is easy to state but very difficult to resolve in any generality. In this paper we investigate the singularity of graphs for which the dihedral group acts transitively on vertices as a group of automorphisms.
Two new families of non-CCA groups

We determine two new infinite families of Cayley graphs that admit colour-preserving automorphisms that do not come from the group action. By definition, this means that these Cayley graphs fail to have the CCA (Cayley Colour Automorphism) property, and the corresponding infinite families of groups also fail to have the CCA property. The families of groups consist of the direct product of any dihedral group of order $2n$ where $n \ge 3$ is odd, with either itself, or the cyclic group of order $n$. In particular, this family of examples includes the smallest non-CCA group that had not fit into any previous family of known non-CCA groups.
Plateaux on generalized Stirling permutations and partial $γ$-positivity
We prove that the enumerative polynomials of generalized Stirling permutations by the statistics of plateaux, descents and ascents are partial $γ$-positive. Specialization of our result to the Jacobi-Stirling permutations confirms a recent partial $γ$-positivity conjecture due to Ma, Yeh and the second named author. Our partial $γ$-positivity expansion, as well as a combinatorial interpretation for the corresponding $γ$-coefficients, are obtained via the machine of context-free grammars and a group action on generalized Stirling permutations. Besides, we also provide an alternative approach to the partial $γ$-positivity from the stability of certain multivariate polynomials.

In 2010, B. Rhoades proved that promotion together with the fake-degree polynomial associated with rectangular standard Young tableaux give an instance of the cyclic sieving phenomenon.
We extend this result to all skew standard Young tableaux where the fake-degree polynomial evaluates to nonnegative integers at roots of unity, albeit without being able to specify an explicit group action. Put differently, we determine in which cases a skew character of the symmetric group carries a permutation representation of the cyclic group.
We use a method proposed by N. Amini and the first author, which amounts to establishing a bound on the number of border-strip tableaux of skew shape.
Finally, we apply our results to the invariant theory of tensor powers of the adjoint representation of the general linear group. In particular, we prove the existence of a bijection between permutations and J. Stembridge's alternating tableaux, which intertwines rotation and promotion.
A formula for enumerating permutations with a fixed pinnacle set

In 2017 Davis, Nelson, Petersen, and Tenner pioneered the study of pinnacle sets of permutations and asked whether there exists a class of operations, which applied to a permutation in $\mathfrak{S}_n$, can produce any other permutation with the same pinnacle set and no others. In this paper, we adapt a group action defined by Foata and Strehl to provide a way to generate all permutations with a given pinnacle set. From this we give a closed non-recursive formula enumerating permutations with a given pinnacle set. Thus answering a question posed by Davis, Nelson, Petersen, and Tenner.
Skew Howe duality for crystals and the cactus group
The crystals for a finite-dimensional complex reductive Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ encode the structure of its representations, yet can also reveal surprising new structure of their own. We study the cactus group $C_{\mathfrak{g}}$, constructed using the Dynkin diagram of $\mathfrak{g}$, and its combinatorial action on any $\mathfrak{g}$-crystal via Schützenberger involutions. We compare this action with that of the Berenstein-Kirillov group on Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns. Henriques and Kamnitzer define an action of $C_n=C_{\mathfrak{gl}_n}$ on $n$-tensor products of $\mathfrak{g}$-crystals, for any $\mathfrak{g}$ as above. We discuss the crystal corresponding to the $\mathfrak{gl}_n \times \mathfrak{gl}_m$-representation $Λ^N(\mathbb{C}^n \otimes \mathbb{C}^m),$ derive skew Howe duality on the crystal level and show that the two types of cactus group actions agree in this setting. A future application of this result is discussed in studying two families of maximal commutative subalgebras of the universal enveloping algebra, the shift of argument and Gaudin algebras, where an algebraically constructed monodromy action matches that of the cactus group.
Permutations with restricted movement

A restricted permutation of a locally finite directed graph $G=(V,E)$ is a vertex permutation $π: V\to V$ for which $(v,π(v))\in E$, for any vertex $v\in V$. The set of such permutations, denoted by $Ω(G)$, with a group action induced from a subset of graph isomorphisms form a topological dynamical system. We focus on the particular case presented by Schmidt and Strasser (2016) of restricted $\mathbb{Z}^d$ permutations, in which $Ω(G)$ is a subshift of finite type. We show a correspondence between restricted permutations and perfect matchings (also known as dimer coverings). We use this correspondence in order to investigate and compute the topological entropy in a class of cases of restricted $\mathbb{Z}^d$-permutations. We discuss the global and local admissibility of patterns, in the context of restricted $\mathbb{Z}^d$-permutations. Finally, we review the related models of injective and surjective restricted functions.

Equivariant Ehrhart theory enumerates the lattice points in a polytope with respect to a group action. Answering a question of Stapledon, we describe the equivariant Ehrhart theory of the permutahedron, and we prove his Effectiveness Conjecture in this special case.
On the generic family of Cayley graphs of a finite group
Let $G$ be a finite group. For each $m>1$ we define the symmetric canonical subset $S=S(m)$ of the Cartesian power $G^m$ and we consider the family of Cayley graphs $\mathscr{G}_m(G)=Cay(G^m,S)$. We describe properties of these graphs and show that for a fixed $m>1$ and groups $G$ and $H$ the graphs $\mathscr{G}_m(G)$ and $\mathscr{G}_m(H)$ are isomorphic if and only if the groups $G$ and $H$ are isomorphic. We describe also the groups of automorphisms $\mathbf{Aut}(\mathscr{G}_m(G))$. It is shown that if $G$ is a non-abelian group, then $\mathbf{Aut}(\mathscr{G}_m(G))\simeq \big(G^m \rtimes \mathbf{Aut}(G)\big)\rtimes D_{m+1}$, where $D_{m+1}$ is the dihedral group of order $2m+2$. If $G$ is an abelian group (with some exceptions for $m=3$), then $\mathbf{Aut}(\mathscr{G}_m(G))\simeq G^m\rtimes \big(\mathbf{Aut}(G)\times S_{m+1}\big)$, where $S_{m+1}$ is the symmetric group of degree $m+1$. As an example of application we discuss relations between Cayley graphs $\mathscr{G}_m(G)$ and Bergman-Isaacs Theorem on rings with fixed-point-free group actions.

In the theory of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, one may recognize the domain space as the set of weakly semi-magic squares of size three. Two partitions on this set are considered: a triangle-hexagon model based on top lines, and one based on the orbits under a finite group action. In addition to giving another proof of McMahon's formula, we give a generating function that counts the so-called trivial zeros of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients and its associated quasi-polynomial.

We develop a framework to analyse invariant decompositions of elements of tensor product spaces. Namely, we define an invariant decomposition with indices arranged on a simplicial complex, and which is explicitly invariant under a group action. We prove that this decomposition exists for all invariant tensors after possibly enriching the simplicial complex. As a special case we recover tensor networks with translational invariance and the symmetric tensor decomposition. We also define an invariant separable decomposition and purification form, and prove similar existence results. Associated to every decomposition there is a rank, and we prove several inequalities between them. For example, we show by how much the rank increases when imposing invariance in the decomposition, and that the tensor rank is the largest of all ranks. Finally, we apply our framework to nonnegative tensors, where we define a nonnegative and a positive semidefinite decomposition on arbitrary simplicial complexes with group action. We show a correspondence to the previous ranks, and as a very special case recover the nonnegative, the positive semidefinite, the completely positive and the completely positive semidefinite transposed decomposition.
Group Action Combinatorics
This paper generalizes the basic notions of additive and multiplicative combinatorics to the setting of group actions: if $G$ is a group acting on a set $X$, and we have subsets $A\subseteq G$ and $Y\subseteq X$ such that the set of pairs $g\cdot y$ with $g\in A,y\in Y$ is not much larger than $Y$, what structure must $A$ and $Y$ have?
Briefly, what is the structure of sets with small "image set"?
In this setting, we develop analogs of Ruzsa's triangle inequality, covering theorems, multiplicative energy, and the Balog-Szemerédi-Gowers theorem. Approximate stabilizers, which we call symmetry sets, play an important role.
While our focus is on presenting a general theory, we answer the inverse image set question in some special cases.
To do so, we combine the group action version of the Balog-Szemerédi-Gowers theorem with structure theorems for approximate groups and bounds for the sizes of symmetry sets.
The asymptotics of reflectable weighted walks in arbitrary dimension

Gessel and Zeilberger generalized the reflection principle to handle walks confined to Weyl chambers, under some restrictions on the allowable steps. For those models that are invariant under the Weyl group action, they express the counting function for the walks with fixed starting and endpoint as a constant term in the Taylor series expansion of a rational function. Here, we focus on the simplest case, the Weyl groups $A_1^d$, which correspond to walks in the first orthant $\mathbb{N}^d$ taking steps from a subset of $\{\pm1, 0\}^d$ which is invariant under reflection across any axis. The principle novelty here is the incorporation of weights on the steps and the main result is a very general theorem giving asymptotic enumeration formulas for walks that end anywhere in the orthant. The formulas are determined by singularity analysis of multivariable rational functions, an approach that has already been successfully applied in numerous related cases.
