A maximum sequence $S$ of vertices in a graph $G$, so that every vertex in $S$ has a neighbor which is independent, or is itself independent, from all previous vertices in $S$, is called a Grundy dominating sequence. The Grundy domination number, $γ_{gr}(G)$, is the length of $S$. We show that for any forest $F$, $γ_{gr}(F)=|V(T)|-|\mathcal{P}|$ where $\mathcal{P}$ is a minimum partition of the non-isolate vertices of $F$ into caterpillars in which if two caterpillars of $\mathcal{P}$ have an edge between them in $F$, then such an edge must be incident to a non-leaf vertex in at least one of the caterpillars. We use this result to show the strong product conjecture of B. Brešar, Cs. Bujtás, T. Gologranc, S. Klavžar, G. Košmrlj, B. Patkós, Zs. Tuza, and M. Vizer, Dominating sequences in grid-like and toroidal graphs, Electron. J. Combin. 23(4): P4.34 (2016), for all forests. Namely, we show that for any forest $G$ and graph $H$, $γ_{gr}(G \boxtimes H) = γ_{gr}(G) γ_{gr}(H)$. We also show that every connected graph $G$ has a spanning tree $T$ so that $γ_{gr}(G)\le γ_{gr}(T)$ and that every non-complete connected graph contains a Grundy dominating set $S$ so that the induced subgraph of $S$ contains no isolated vertices.

The LLT polynomials $\mathcal{L}_{\mathbfβ/\mathbfγ} (X;t)$ are a family of symmetric polynomials indexed by a tuple of (possibly skew-)partitions $\mathbfβ/\mathbfγ= (β^{(1)}/γ^{(1)},\ldots,β^{(k)}/γ^{(k)})$. It has recently been shown that these polynomials can be seen as the partition function of a certain vertex model whose boundary conditions are determined by $\mathbfβ/\mathbfγ$. In this paper we describe an algorithm which gives a bijection between the configurations of the vertex model with boundary condition $\mathbfβ/\mathbfγ = (β^{(1)}/γ^{(1)},β^{(2)}/γ^{(2)})$ and those with boundary condition $(\mathbfβ/\mathbfγ)_{swap} = (β^{(2)}/γ^{(2)},β^{(1)}/γ^{(1)})$. We prove a sufficient condition for when this bijection is weight-preserving up to an overall factor of $t$, which in turn implies that the corresponding LLT polynomials are equal up to the same overall factor. Using these techniques, we are also able to systematically determine linear relations within families of LLT polynomials.

In 1999, Katona and Kierstead conjectured that if a $k$-uniform hypergraph $\cal H$ on $n$ vertices has minimum co-degree $\lfloor \frac{n-k+3}{2}\rfloor$, i.e., each set of $k-1$ vertices is contained in at least $\lfloor \frac{n-k+3}{2}\rfloor$ edges, then it has a Hamiltonian cycle. Rödl, Ruciński and Szemerédi in 2011 proved that the conjecture is true when $k=3$ and $n$ is large. We show that this Katona-Kierstead conjecture holds if $k=4$, $n$ is large, and $V({\cal H})$ has a partition $A$, $B$ such that $|A|=\lceil n/2\rceil$, $|\{e\in E({\cal H}):|e \cap A|=2\}| <εn^4$ for a fixed small constant $ε>0$.

By specializing the parameters in the partition function of the 8VSOS model with domain wall boundary conditions and diagonal reflecting end, we find connections between the three-color model and certain polynomials $p_n(z)$, which are conjectured to be equal to certain polynomials of Bazhanov and Mangazeev, appearing in the eigenvectors of the Hamiltonian of the supersymmetric XYZ spin chain. This article is a continuation of a previous paper where we investigated the related polynomials $q_n(z)$, also conjectured to be equal to polynomials of Bazhanov and Mangazeev, appearing in the eigenvectors of the supersymmetric XYZ spin chain.

We give two proofs of the $q,t$-symmetry of the generalized $q,t$-Catalan number $C_{\vec{k}}(q,t)$ for $\vec{k}=(k_1,k_2,k_3)$. One is by using MacMahon's partition analysis as we proposed; the other is a direct bijection. We also prove $C_{(k,k,k,k)}(q,t) = C_{(k,k,k,k)}(t,q)$ by using MacMahon's partition analysis.

Let $\mathcal{A}=(a_n)_{n\in\mathbb{N}_+}$ be a sequence of positive integers. Let $p_\mathcal{A}(n,k)$ denote the number of multi-color partitions of $n$ into parts in $\{a_1,\ldots,a_k\}$. We examine several arithmetic properties of the sequence $(p_\mathcal{A}(n,k) \pmod{m})_{n\in\mathbb{N}}$ for an arbitrary fixed integer $m\geqslant2$. We investigate periodicity of the sequence and lower and upper bounds for the density of the set $\{n\in\mathbb{N}: p_\mathcal{A}(n,k) \equiv i \pmod{m}\}$ for a fixed positive integer $k$ and $i\in\{0,1,\ldots, m-1\}$. In particular, we apply our results to the special cases of the sequence $\mathcal{A}$. Furthermore, we present some results related to restricted $m$-ary partitions.

An iterative formula for the Green polynomial is given using the vertex operator realization of the Hall-Littlewood function. Based on this, (1) a general combinatorial formula of the Green polynomial is given; (2) several compact formulas are given for Green's polynomials associated with upper partitions of length $\leq 3$ and the diagonal lengths $\leq 3$; (3) a Murnaghan-Nakayama type formula for the Green polynomial is obtained; and (4) an iterative formula is derived for the bitrace of the finite general linear group $G$ and the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type $A$ on the permutation module of $G$ by its Borel subgroup.

Association Schemes and coherent configurations (and the related Bose-Mesner algebra and coherent algebras) are well known in combinatorics with many applications. In the 1990s, Mesner and Bhattacharya introduced a three-dimensional generalisation of association schemes which they called an association scheme on triples (AST) and constructed examples of several families of ASTs. Many of their examples used 2-transitive permutation groups: the non-trivial ternary relations of the ASTs were sets of ordered triples of pairwise distinct points of the underlying set left invariant by the group; and the given permutation group was a subgroup of automorphisms of the AST. In this paper, we consider ASTs that do not necessarily admit 2-transitive groups as automorphism groups but instead a transitive cyclic subgroup of the symmetric group acts as automorphisms. Such ASTs are called circulant ASTs and the corresponding ternary relations are called circulant relations. We give a complete characterisation of circulant ASTs in terms of AST-regular partitions of the underlying set. We also show that a special type of circulant, that we call a thin circulant, plays a key role in describing the structure of circulant ASTs. We outline several open questions.

We define a new disordered asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) with two species of particles, first-class particles labelled $\bullet$ and second-class particles labelled ${\scriptstyle \Box}$, on a two-dimensional toroidal lattice. The dynamics is controlled by particles labelled $\bullet$, which only move horizontally, with forward and backward hopping rates $p_i$ and $q_i$ respectively if the $\bullet$ is on row $i$. The motion of particles labelled ${\scriptstyle \Box}$ depends on the relative position of these with respect to $\bullet$'s, and can be both horizontal and vertical. We show that the stationary weight of any configuration is proportional to a monomial in the $p_i$'s and $q_i$'s. Our process projects to the disordered ASEP on a ring, and so explains combinatorially the stationary distribution of the latter first derived by Evans (Europhysics Letters, 1996). We compute the partition function, as well as densities and currents of $\bullet$'s and ${\scriptstyle \Box}$'s in the stationary state. We observe a novel mechanism we call the Scott Russell phenomenon: the current of ${\scriptstyle \Box}$'s in the vertical direction is the same as that of $\bullet$'s in the horizontal direction.

For a set of positive integers $A$, let $p_A(n)$ denote the number of ways to write $n$ as a sum of integers from $A$, and let $p(n)$ denote the usual partition function. In the early 40s, Erdős extended the classical Hardy--Ramanujan formula for $p(n)$ by showing that $A$ has density $α$ if and only if $\log p_A(n) \sim \log p(αn)$. Nathanson asked if Erdős's theorem holds also with respect to $A$'s lower density, namely, whether $A$ has lower-density $α$ if and only if $\log p_A(n) / \log p(αn)$ has lower limit $1$. We answer this question negatively by constructing, for every $α> 0$, a set of integers $A$ of lower density $α$, satisfying $$ \liminf_{n \rightarrow \infty} \frac{\log p_A(n)}{\log p(αn)} \geq \left(\frac{\sqrt{6}}π-o_α(1)\right)\log(1/α)\;. $$ We further show that the above bound is best possible (up to the $o_α(1)$ term), thus determining the exact extremal relation between the lower density of a set of integers and the lower limit of its partition function. We also prove an analogous theorem with respect to the upper density of a set of integers, answering another question of Nathanson.
Profunctors between posets and Alexander duality
We consider profunctors $f : P \promap Q$ between posets and introduce their {\em graph} and {\em ascent}. The profunctors $\Pro(P,Q)$ form themselves a poset, and we consider a partition $\cI \sqcup \cF$ of this into a down-set $\cI$ and up-set $\cF$, called a {\it cut}. To elements of $\cF$ we associate their graphs, and to elements of $\cI$ we associate their ascents. Our basic result is that this, suitable refined, preserves being a cut: We get a cut in the Boolean lattice of subsets of the underlying set of $Q \times P$. Cuts in finite Booleans lattices correspond precisely to finite simplicial complexes.
We apply this in commutative algebra where these give classes of Alexander dual square-free monomial ideals giving the full and natural generalized setting of isotonian ideals and letterplace ideals for posets. We study $\Pro(\NN, \NN)$. Such profunctors identify as order preserving maps $f : \NN \pil \NN \cup \{\infty \}$. For our applications when $P$ and $Q$ are infinite, we also introduce a topology on $\Pro(P,Q)$, in particular on profunctors $\Pro(\NN,\NN)$.

Let $κ$ be a positive real number and $m\in\mathbb{N}\cup\{\infty\}$ be given. Let $p_{κ, m}(n)$ denote the number of partitions of $n$ into the parts from the Piatestki-Shapiro sequence $(\lfloor \ell^κ\rfloor)_{\ell\in \mathbb{N}}$ with at most $m$ times (repetition allowed). In this paper we establish asymptotic formulas of Hardy-Ramanujan type for $p_{κ, m}(n)$, by employing a framework of asymptotics of partitions established by Roth-Szekeres in 1953, as well as some results on equidistribution.

Motivated by a conjecture posed by Fulmek and Krattenthaler, we provide product formulas for the number of lozenge tilings of a semiregular hexagon containing a horizontal intrusion. As a direct corollary, we obtain a product formula for the number of boxed plane partitions with a certain restriction. We also investigate the asymptotic behavior of the ratio between the number of lozenge tilings of a semiregular hexagon containing a horizontal intrusion and that of a semiregular hexagon without an intrusion.

The Bell numbers count the number of different ways to partition a set of $n$ elements while the graphical Bell numbers count the number of non-equivalent partitions of the vertex set of a graph into stable sets. This relation between graph theory and integer sequences has motivated us to study properties on the average number of colors in the non-equivalent colorings of a graph to discover new non trivial inequalities for the Bell numbers. Example are given to illustrate our approach.

We explicate the combinatorial/geometric ingredients of Arthur's proof of the convergence and polynomiality, in a truncation parameter, of his non-invariant trace formula. Starting with a fan in a real, finite dimensional, vector space and a collection of functions, one for each cone in the fan, we introduce a combinatorial truncated function with respect to a polytope normal to the fan and prove the analogues of Arthur's results on the convergence and polynomiality of the integral of this truncated function over the vector space. The convergence statements clarify the important role of certain combinatorial subsets that appear in Arthur's work and provide a crucial partition that amounts to a so-called nearest face partition. The polynomiality statements can be thought of as far reaching extensions of the Ehrhart polynomial. Our proof of polynomiality relies on the Lawrence-Varchenko conical decomposition and readily implies an extension of the well-known combinatorial lemma of Langlands. The Khovanskii-Pukhlikov virtual polytopes are an important ingredient here. Finally, we give some geometric interpretations of our combinatorial truncation on toric varieties as a measure and a Lefschetz number.

We prove that for all integers $Δ,r \geq 2$, there is a constant $C = C(Δ,r) >0$ such that the following is true for every sequence $\mathcal{F} = \{F_1, F_2, \ldots\}$ of graphs with $v(F_n) = n$ and $Δ(F_n) \leq Δ$, for each $n \in \mathbb{N}$. In every $r$-edge-coloured $K_n$, there is a collection of at most $C$ monochromatic copies from $\mathcal{F}$ whose vertex-sets partition $V(K_n)$. This makes progress on a conjecture of Grinshpun and Sárközy.
Enumeration of fully parked trees
We enumerate a class of fully parked trees. In a probabilistic context, this means computing the partition function $F(x,y)$ of the parking process where an i.i.d. number of cars arrives at each vertex of a Galton-Watson tree with a geometric offspring distribution, conditioned to leave no vertex unoccupied at the end. The variables $x$ and $y$ count the number of vertices in the tree and the number of cars exiting from the root, respectively.
For any car arrival distribution $\mathbf b$, we obtain an explicit parametric expression of $F(x,y)$ in terms of the probability generating function $B(y)$ of $\mathbf b$. We show that the model has a generic phase where the singular behavior of $F(x,y)$ is essentially independent of $B(y)$, and a non-generic phase where it depends sensitively on the singular behavior of $B(y)$. The non-generic phase is further divided into two cases, which we call dilute and dense. We give a simple algebraic description of the phase diagram, and, under mild additional assumptions on $\mathbf b$, carry out detailed singularity analysis of $F(x,y)$ in the generic and the dilute phases. The singularity analysis uses the classical transfer theorem, as well as its generalization for bivariate asymptotics. In the process, we develop a variational method for locating the dominant singularity of the inverse of an analytic function, which is of independent interest.
The phases defined in this paper are closely related to, but not the same as, the phases in the transition of macroscopic runoff described in arxiv:1912.06012 and related works.

We use a Hamiltonian (transition matrix) description of height-restricted Dyck paths on the plane in which generating functions for the paths arise as matrix elements of the propagator to evaluate the length and area generating function for paths with arbitrary starting and ending points, expressing it as a rational combination of determinants. Exploiting a connection between random walks and quantum exclusion statistics that we previously established, we express this generating function in terms of grand partition functions for exclusion particles in a finite harmonic spectrum and present an alternative, simpler form for its logarithm that makes its polynomial structure explicit.

For a field $R$ of characteristic $p\ge 0$ and a matrix $c$ in the full $n\times n$ matrix algebra $M_n(R)$ over $R$, let $S_n(c,R)$ be the centralizer algebra of $c$ in $M_n(R)$. We show that $S_n(c,R)$ is a Frobenius-finite, $1$-Auslander-Gorenstein, and gendo-symmetric algebra, and that the extension $S_n(c,R)\subseteq M_n(R)$ is separable and Frobenius. Further, we study the isomorphism problem of invariant matrix algebras. Let $σ$ be a permutation in the symmetric group $Σ_n$ and $c_σ$ the corresponding permutation matrix in $M_n(R)$. We give sufficient and necessary conditions for the invariant algebra $S_n(c_σ,R)$ to be semisimple. If $R$ is an algebraically closed field, we establish a combinatoric characterization of when two semisimple invariant $R$-algebras are isomorphic in terms of the cycle types of permutations.
On the Packing/Covering Conjecture of Infinite Matroids
The Packing/Covering Conjecture was introduced by Bowler and Carmesin motivated by the Matroid Partition Theorem by Edmonds and Fulkerson. A packing for a family $ (M_i: i\inΘ) $ of matroids on the common edge set $ E $ is a system $ (S_i: i\inΘ) $ of pairwise disjoint subsets of $ E $ where $ S_i $ is panning in $ M_i $. Similarly, a covering is a system $ (I_i: i\inΘ) $ with $\bigcup_{i\inΘ} I_i=E $ where $ I_i $ is independent in $ M_i $. The conjecture states that for every matroid family on $ E $ there is a partition $E=E_p \sqcup E_c$ such that $ (M_i \upharpoonright E_p: i\in Θ) $ admits a packing and $ (M_i. E_c: i\in Θ) $ admits a covering. We prove the special case where $ E $ is countable and each $ M_i $ is either finitary or cofinitary. The connection between packing/covering and matroid intersection problems discovered by Bowler and Carmesin can be established for every well-behaved matroid class. This makes possible to approach the problem from the direction of matroid intersection. We show that the generalized version of Nash-Williams' Matroid Intersection Conjecture holds for countable matroids having only finitary and cofinitary components.
