A uniquely $k$-colourable graph is a graph with exactly one partition of the vertex set into at most $k$ colour classes. Here, we investigate some constructions of uniquely $k$-colourable graphs and give a construction of $K_k$-free uniquely $k$-colourable graphs with equal colour class sizes.
Iterated Type Partitions

This paper deals with the complexity of some natural graph problems when parametrized by {measures that are restrictions of} clique-width, such as modular-width and neighborhood diversity. The main contribution of this paper is to introduce a novel parameter, called iterated type partition, that can be computed in polynomial time and nicely places between modular-width and neighborhood diversity. We prove that the Equitable Coloring problem is W[1]-hard when parametrized by the iterated type partition. This result extends to modular-width, answering an open question about the possibility to have FPT algorithms for Equitable Coloring when parametrized by modular-width. Moreover, we show that the Equitable Coloring problem is instead FTP when parameterized by neighborhood diversity. Furthermore, we present simple and fast FPT algorithms parameterized by iterated type partition that provide optimal solutions for several graph problems; in particular, this paper presents algorithms for the Dominating Set, the Vertex Coloring and the Vertex Cover problems. While the above problems are already known to be FPT with respect to modular-width, the novel algorithms are both simpler and more efficient: For the Dominating set and Vertex Cover problems, our algorithms output an optimal set in time $O(2^t+poly(n))$, while for the Vertex Coloring problem, our algorithm outputs an optimal set in time $O(t^{2.5t+o(t)}\log n+poly(n))$, where $n$ and $t$ are the size and the iterated type partition of the input graph, respectively.
On star-Moments of the compression of the free unitary Brownian motion by a free projection

In this paper, we derive explicit expressions for the moments and for the mixed moments of the compression of a free unitary Brownian motion by a free projection. While the moments of this non-normal operator are readily derived using analytical or combinatorial methods, we only succeeded to derive its mixed ones after solving a non-linear partial differential equation for their two-variables generating function. Nonetheless, the combinatorics of non crossing partitions lead to another expression of the lowest-order mixed moment. We shall also give some interest in odd alternating moments. In particular, we derive a linear partial differential equation for their generating function and discuss the combinatorial approach to these moments when the rank of the projection equals $1/2$.
Limit Shapes for Unimodal Sequences

We prove asymptotic 0-1 Laws satisfied by diagrams of unimodal sequences of positive integers. These diagrams consist of columns of squares in the plane, and the upper boundary is called the shape. For various types, we show that, as the number of squares tends to infinity, $100\%$ of shapes are near a certain curve---that is, there is a single {\it limit shape}. Similar phenomena have been well-studied for integer partitions, so the present work is a natural extension. One notable corollary is a transferred limit shape for overpartitions.

In this paper, we propose an $(s+d,d)$-abacus for $(s,s+d,\dots,s+pd)$-core partitions and establish a bijection between the $(s,s+d,\dots,s+pd)$-core partitions and the rational Motzkin paths of type $(s+d,-d)$. This result not only gives a lattice path interpretation of the $(s,s+d,\dots,s+pd)$-core partitions but also counts them with a closed formula. Also we enumerate $(s,s+1,\dots,s+p)$-core partitions with $k$ corners and self-conjugate $(s,s+1,\dots,s+p)$-core partitions.

We propose periodic Macdonald processes as a $(q,t)$-deformation of periodic Schur processes and a periodic analogue of Macdonald processes. It is known that, in the theory of stochastic processes related to a family of symmetric functions, the Cauchy-like identity gives an explicit expression of a partition function. We compute the partition functions of periodic Macdonald processes relying on the free field realization of the Macdonald theory. We also study several families of observables for periodic Macdonald processes and give formulas of their moments. The technical tool is the free field realization of operators that are diagonalized by the Macdonald symmetric functions, where the operators admit expressions by means of vertex operators. We show that, when we adopt Plancherel specializations, the corresponding periodic Macdonald process is related to a Young diagram-valued periodic continuous process. It is known that, for periodic Schur processes, determinantal formulas are only available when we extend them to take into account the charge. We also consider this kind of shift-mixed periodic Macdonald processes and discuss their Schur-limit.
Nullspace Vertex Partition in Graphs

The core vertex set of a graph is an invariant of the graph. It consists of those vertices associated with the non-zero entries of the nullspace vectors of a $\{0,1\}$-adjacency matrix. The remaining vertices of the graph form the core--forbidden vertex set. For graphs with independent core vertices, such as bipartite minimal configurations and trees, the nullspace induces a well defined three part vertex partition. The parts of this partition are the core vertex set, their neighbours and the remote core--forbidden vertices. The set of the remote core--forbidden vertices are those not adjacent to any core vertex. We show that this set can be removed, leaving the nullity unchanged. We show that for graphs with independent core vertices, the submatrix of the adjacency matrix defining the edges incident to the core vertices determines the nullity of adjacency matrix. To maximize the number of edges for optimal network graphs with a specified nullity, we determine which perturbations make up sufficient conditions for the core vertex set of the adjacency matrix of a graph to be preserved on adding edges.
Distinguishing simple groups
The distinguishing number $D(Γ)$ of a graph $Γ$ is the least size of a partition of the vertices of $Γ$ such that no non-trivial automorphism of $Γ$ preserves this partition. We show that if the automorphism group of a graph $Γ$ is simple, than $D(Γ)=2$. This is obtained by establishing the distinguishing number for all possible actions of simple groups.

In the context of the coloured stochastic vertex model in a quadrant, we identify a family of observables whose averages are given by explicit contour integrals. The observables are certain linear combinations of $q$-moments of the coloured height functions of the model. In a polymer limit, this yields integral representations for moments of partition functions of strict-weak, semi-discrete Brownian, and continuum Brownian polymers with varying beginning and ending points of the polymers.
Character Polynomials and the Restriction Problem

Character polynomials are used to study the restriction of a polynomial representation of a general linear group to its subgroup of permutation matrices. A simple formula is obtained for computing inner products of class functions given by character polynomials. Character polynomials for symmetric and alternating tensors are computed using generating functions with Eulerian factorizations. These are used to compute character polynomials for Weyl modules, which exhibit a duality. By taking inner products of character polynomials for Weyl modules and character polynomials for Specht modules, stable restriction coefficients are easily computed. Generating functions of dimensions of symmetric group invariants in Weyl modules are obtained. Partitions with two rows, two columns, and hook partitions whose Weyl modules have non-zero vectors invariant under the symmetric group are characterized. A reformulation of the restriction problem in terms of a restriction functor from the category of strict polynomial functors to the category of finitely generated FI-modules is obtained.

Let $G$ be a group and $H_1$,...,$H_s$ be subgroups of $G$ of indices $d_1$,...,$d_s$ respectively. In 1974, M. Herzog and J. Schönheim conjectured that if $\{H_iα_i\}_{i=1}^{i=s}$, $α_i\in G$, is a coset partition of $G$, then $d_1$,..,$d_s$ cannot be distinct. In this paper, we present a new approach to the Herzog-Schönheim conjecture based on automata and present a translation of the conjecture as a problem on automata.
Complements of Schubert polynomials

Let $\mathfrak{S}_w(x)$ be the Schubert polynomial for a permutation $w$ of $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$. For any given composition $μ$, we say that $x^μ\mathfrak{S}_w(x^{-1})$ is the complement of $\mathfrak{S}_w(x)$ with respect to $μ$. When each part of $μ$ is equal to $n-1$, Huh, Matherne, Mészáros and St.\,Dizier proved that the normalization of $x^μ\mathfrak{S}_w(x^{-1})$ is a Lorentzian polynomial. They further conjectured that the normalization of $\mathfrak{S}_w(x)$ is Lorentzian. It can be shown that if there exists a composition $μ$ such that $x^μ\mathfrak{S}_w(x^{-1})$ is a Schubert polynomial, then the normalization of $\mathfrak{S}_w(x)$ will be Lorentzian. This motivates us to investigate the problem of when $x^μ\mathfrak{S}_w(x^{-1})$ is a Schubert polynomial. We show that if $x^μ\mathfrak{S}_w(x^{-1})$ is a Schubert polynomial, then $μ$ must be a partition. We also consider the case when $μ$ is the staircase partition $δ_n=(n-1,\ldots, 1,0)$, and obtain that $x^{δ_n} \mathfrak{S}_w(x^{-1})$ is a Schubert polynomial if and only if $w$ avoids the patterns 132 and 312. A conjectured characterization of when $x^μ\mathfrak{S}_w(x^{-1})$ is a Schubert polynomial is proposed.
How to Cut a Cake Fairly: A Generalization to Groups

A fundamental result in cake cutting states that for any number of players with arbitrary preferences over a cake, there exists a division of the cake such that every player receives a single contiguous piece and no player is left envious. We generalize this result by showing that it is possible to partition the players into groups of any desired sizes and divide the cake among the groups, so that each group receives a single contiguous piece and no player finds the piece of another group better than that of the player's own group.
Improved Analysis of Higher Order Random Walks and Applications

The motivation of this work is to extend the techniques of higher order random walks on simplicial complexes to analyze mixing times of Markov chains for combinatorial problems. Our main result is a sharp upper bound on the second eigenvalue of the down-up walk on a pure simplicial complex, in terms of the second eigenvalues of its links. We show some applications of this result in analyzing mixing times of Markov chains, including sampling independent sets of a graph and sampling common independent sets of two partition matroids.
Kostant's partition function and magic multiplex juggling sequences

Kostant's partition function is a vector partition function that counts the number of ways one can express a weight of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ as a nonnegative integral linear combination of the positive roots of $\mathfrak{g}$. Multiplex juggling sequences are generalizations of juggling sequences that specify an initial and terminal configuration of balls and allow for multiple balls at any particular discrete height. Magic multiplex juggling sequences generalize further to include magic balls, which cancel with standard balls when they meet at the same height. In this paper, we establish a combinatorial equivalence between positive roots of a Lie algebra and throws during a juggling sequence. This provides a juggling framework to calculate Kostant's partition functions, and a partition function framework to compute the number of juggling sequences. From this equivalence we provide a broad range of consequences and applications connecting this work to polytopes, posets, positroids, and weight multiplicities.
A simple symmetric exclusion process driven by an asymmetric tracer particle

We consider an exclusion process on a periodic one-dimensional lattice where all particles perform simple symmetric exclusion at rate $1$ except for a single tracer particle, which performs partially simple asymmetric exclusion with rate $p$ to the right and rate $q$ to the left. This model was first considered by Ferrari, Goldstein and Lebowitz (Progr. Phys., 1985) as a test for the validity of the Einstein relation in microscopic systems.
The main thrust of this work is an exact solution for the steady state of this exclusion process. We show that the stationary probabilities factorize and give an exact formula for the nonequilibrium partition function. Perhaps surprisingly, we find that the nonequilibrium free energy in the steady state is not well-defined for this system in the thermodynamic limit for any values of $p$ and $q$ if $p \neq q$. We provide formulas for the current and two-point correlations. When the tracer particle performs asymmetric exclusion ($q=0$), the results are shown to simplify significantly and we find an unexpected connection with the combinatorics of set partitions. Finally, we study the system from the point of view of the tracer particle, the so-called environment process. In the environment process, we show that the density of particles decays exponentially with the scaled position in front of the tracer particle in the thermodynamic limit.

We prove that the values of discrete directed polymer partition functions involving multiple non-intersecting paths remain invariant under replacing the background weights by their images under the geometric RSK correspondence. This result is inspired by a recent and remarkable identity proved by Dauvergne, Orthmann and Virág which is recovered as the zero-temperature, semi-discrete limit of our main result.
On the Positivity Conjecture for Finite Abelian p-Groups
For a partition $\underlineλ = (λ_{1}^{ρ_1}>λ_{2}^{ρ_2}>λ_{3}^{ρ_3}>\ldots>λ_{k}^{ρ_k})$ and its associated finite $\mathcal{R}$-module $\mathcal{A}_{\underlineλ}=\underset{i=1}{\overset{k}{\oplus}} (\mathcal{R}/π^{λ_i}\mathcal{R})^{ρ_i}$, where $\mathcal{R}$ is a discrete valuation ring, with maximal ideal generated by a uniformizing element $π$, having finite residue field ${\bf k}=\mathcal{R}/π\mathcal{R}\cong \mathbb{F}_q$, the number of orbits of pairs $n_{\underlineλ}(q)= \mid \mathcal{G}_{\underlineλ}\backslash \big(\mathcal{A}_{\underlineλ}\times \mathcal{A}_{\underlineλ}\big)\mid$ for the diagonal action of the automorphism group $\mathcal{G}_{\underlineλ}= Aut(\mathcal{A}_{\underlineλ})$, is a polynomial in $q$ with integer coefficients. Positivity conjecture states that these coefficients are in fact non-negative. In this article, we prove this conjecture.

In this note we give a short proof that graphs having no linearly small Følner sets can be partitioned into a union of expanders. We use this fact to prove a partition result for graphs admitting linearly small maximal Følner sets and we deduce that a family of such graphs must contain a family of expanders. We also show that the existence of partitions into expanders is a quasi-isometry invariant.
On Kostant's weight $q$-multiplicity formula for $\mathfrak{sl}_{4}(\mathbb{C})$

The $q$-analog of Kostant's weight multiplicity formula is an alternating sum over a finite group, known as the Weyl group, whose terms involve the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function. This formula, when evaluated at $q=1$, gives the multiplicity of a weight in a highest weight representation of a simple Lie algebra. In this paper, we consider the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb{C})$ and give closed formulas for the $q$-analog of Kostant's weight multiplicity. This formula depends on the following two sets of results. First, we present closed formulas for the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function by counting restricted colored integer partitions. These formulas, when evaluated at $q=1$, recover results of De Loera and Sturmfels. Second, we describe and enumerate the Weyl alternation sets, which consist of the elements of the Weyl group that contribute nontrivially to Kostant's weight multiplicity formula. From this, we introduce Weyl alternation diagrams on the root lattice of $\mathfrak{sl}_4(\mathbb{C})$, which are associated to the Weyl alternation sets. This work answers a question posed in 2019 by Harris, Loving, Ramirez, Rennie, Rojas Kirby, Torres Davila, and Ulysse.
