In Partition Into Complementary Subgraphs (Comp-Sub) we are given a graph $G=(V,E)$, and an edge set property $Π$, and asked whether $G$ can be decomposed into two graphs, $H$ and its complement $\overline{H}$, for some graph $H$, in such a way that the edge cut $[V(H),V(\overline{H})]$ satisfies the property $Π$. Motivated by previous work, we consider Comp-Sub($Π$) when the property $Π=\mathcal{PM}$ specifies that the edge cut of the decomposition is a perfect matching. We prove that Comp-Sub($\mathcal{PM}$) is GI-hard when the graph $G$ is $\{C_{k\geq 7}, \overline{C}_{k\geq 7} \}$-free. On the other hand, we show that Comp-Sub($\mathcal{PM}$) is polynomial-time solvable on $hole$-free graphs and on $P_5$-free graphs. Furthermore, we present characterizations of Comp-Sub($\mathcal{PM}$) on chordal, distance-hereditary, and extended $P_4$-laden graphs.

Let $K_p$ be a complete graph of order $p\geq 2$. A $K_p$-free $k$-coloring of a graph $H$ is a partition of $V(H)$ into $V_1, V_2\ldots,V_k$ such that $H[V_i]$ does not contain $K_p$ for each $i\leq k $. In 1977 Borodin and Kostochka conjectured that any graph $H$ with maximum degree $Δ(H)\geq 9$ and without $K_{Δ(H)}$ as a subgraph has chromatic number at most $Δ(H)-1$. As analogue of the Borodin-Kostochka conjecture, we prove that if $p_1\geq \cdots\geq p_k\geq 2$, $p_1+p_2\geq 7$, $\sum_{i=1}^kp_i=Δ(H)-1+k$, and $H$ does not contain $K_{Δ(H)}$ as a subgraph, then there is a partition of $V(H)$ into $V_1,\ldots,V_k$ such that for each $i$, $H[V_i]$ does not contain $K_{p_i}$. In particular, if $p\geq 4$ and $H$ does not contain $K_{Δ(H)}$ as a subgraph, then $H$ admits a $K_p$-free $\lceil{Δ(H)-1\over p-1}\rceil$-coloring. Catlin showed that every connected non-complete graph $H$ with $Δ(H)\geq 3$ has a $Δ(H)$-coloring such that one of the color classes is maximum $K_2$-free subset (maximum independent set). In this regard, we show that there is a partition of vertices of $H$ into $V_1$ and $V_2$ such that $H[V_1]$ does not contain $K_{p}$, $H[V_2]$ does not contain $K_{q}$, and $V_1$ is a maximum $K_p$-free subset of V(H) if $p\geq 4$, $q\geq 3$, $p+q=Δ(H)+1$, and its clique number $ω(H)=p$.

In 2020, Kang and Park conjectured a "level $2$" Alder-type partition inequality which encompasses the second Rogers-Ramanujan Identity. Duncan, Khunger, the fourth author, and Tamura proved Kang and Park's conjecture for all but finitely many cases utilizing a "shift" inequality and conjectured a further, weaker generalization that would extend both Alder's (now proven) as well as Kang and Park's conjecture to general level. Utilizing a modified shift inequality, Inagaki and Tamura have recently proven that the Kang and Park conjecture holds for level $3$ in all but finitely many cases. They further conjectured a stronger shift inequality which would imply a general level result for all but finitely many cases. Here, we prove their conjecture for large enough $n$, generalize the result for an arbitrary shift, and discuss the implications for Alder-type partition inequalities.

In 1984, Bressoud and Subbarao obtained an interesting weighted partition identity for a generalized divisor function, by means of combinatorial arguments. Recently, the last three named authors found an analytic proof of the aforementioned identity of Bressoud and Subbarao starting from a $q$-series identity of Ramanujan. In the present paper, we revisit the combinatorial arguments of Bressoud and Subbarao, and derive a more general weighted partition identity. Furthermore, with the help of a fractional differential operator, we establish a few more Bressoud-Subbarao type weighted partition identities beginning from an identity of Andrews, Garvan and Liang. We also found a one-variable generalization of an identity of Uchimura related to Bell polynomials.

A graph $G$ is said to be an $(s, k)$-polar graph if its vertex set admits a partition $(A, B)$ such that $A$ and $B$ induce, respectively, a complete $s$-partite graph and the disjoint union of at most $k$ complete graphs. Polar graphs and monopolar graphs are defined as $(\infty, \infty)$- and $(1, \infty)$-polar graphs, respectively, and unipolar graphs are those graphs with a polar partition $(A, B)$ such that $A$ is a clique.
The problems of deciding whether an arbitrary graph is a polar graph or a monopolar graph are known to be NP-complete. In contrast, deciding whether a graph is a unipolar graph can be done in polynomial time. In this work we prove that the three previous problems can be solved in linear time on the classes of $P_4$-sparse and $P_4$-extendible graphs, generalizing analogous results previously known for cographs.
Additionally, we provide finite forbidden subgraph characterizations for $(2,2)$-polar graphs on $P_4$-sparse and $P_4$-extendible graphs, also generalizing analogous results recently obtained for the class of cographs.
Perfect partitions of a random set of integers
Let $X_1,\dots, X_n$ be independent integers distributed uniformly on $\{1,\dots, M\}$, $M=M(n)\to\infty$ however slow. A partition $S$ of $[n]$ into $ν$ non-empty subsets $S_1,\dots, S_ν$ is called perfect, if all $ν$ values $\sum_{j\in S_{\a}}X_j$ are equal. For a perfect partition to exist, $\sum_j X_j$ has to be divisible by $ν$. For $ν=2$, Borgs et al. proved, among other results, that, conditioned on $\sum_j X_j$ being even, with high probability a perfect partition exists if $κ:=\lim \tfrac{n}{\log M}>\tfrac{1}{\log 2}$, and that w.h.p. no perfect partition exists if $κ<\tfrac{1}{\log 2}$. We prove that w.h.p. no perfect partition exists if $ν\ge 3$ and $κ<\tfrac{2}{\log ν}$. We identify the range of $κ$ in which the expected number of perfect partitions is exponentially high. We show that for $κ> \tfrac{2(ν-1)}{\log[(1-2ν^{-2})^{-1}]}$ the total number of perfect partitions is exponentially high with probability $\gtrsim (1+ν^2)^{-1}$.
On Equivariant flag $f$-vectors for balanced relative simplicial complexes
We study the equivariant flag $f$-vector and equivariant flag $h$-vector of a balanced relative simplicial complex with respect to a group action. When the complex satisfies Serre's condition $(S_{\ell}),$ we show that the equivariant flag $h$-vector, the equivariant $h$-vector, and the equivariant $f$-vector satisfy several inequalities.
We apply these results to the study of $P$-partitions of double posets, and weak colorings of mixed graphs.
Maximal chain descent orders
This paper introduces a partial order on the maximal chains of any finite bounded poset $P$ which has a CL-labeling $λ$. We call this the maximal chain descent order induced by $λ$, denoted $P_λ(2)$. As a first example, letting $P$ be the Boolean lattice and $λ$ its standard EL-labeling gives $P_λ(2)$ isomorphic to the weak order of type A. We discuss in depth other seemingly well-structured examples: the max-min EL-labeling of the partition lattice gives maximal chain descent order isomorphic to a partial order on certain labeled trees, and particular cases of the linear extension EL-labelings of finite distributive lattices produce maximal chain descent orders isomorphic to partial orders on standard Young tableaux. We observe that the order relations which one might expect to be the cover relations, those given by the "polygon moves" whose transitive closure defines the maximal chain descent order, are not always cover relations. Several examples illustrate this fact. Nonetheless, we characterize the EL-labelings for which every polygon move gives a cover relation, and we prove many well known EL-labelings do have the expected cover relations. One motivation for $P_λ(2)$ is that its linear extensions give all of the shellings of the order complex of $P$ whose restriction maps are defined by the descents with respect to $λ$. This yields strictly more shellings of $P$ than the lexicographic ones induced by $λ$. Thus, the maximal chain descent order $P_λ(2)$ might be thought of as encoding the structure of the set of shellings induced by $λ$.
Matroid Intersection under Restricted Oracles
Matroid intersection is one of the most powerful frameworks of matroid theory that generalizes various problems in combinatorial optimization. Edmonds' fundamental theorem provides a min-max characterization for the unweighted setting, while Frank's weight-splitting theorem provides one for the weighted case. Several efficient algorithms were developed for these problems, all relying on the usage of one of the conventional oracles for both matroids.
In the present paper, we consider the tractability of the matroid intersection problem under restricted oracles. In particular, we focus on the rank sum, common independence, and maximum rank oracles. We give a strongly polynomial-time algorithm for weighted matroid intersection under the rank sum oracle. In the common independence oracle model, we prove that the unweighted matroid intersection problem is tractable when one of the matroids is a partition matroid, and that even the weighted case is solvable when one of the matroids is an elementary split matroid. Finally, we show that the common independence and maximum rank oracles together are strong enough to realize the steps of our algorithm under the rank sum oracle.

We consider matroids with the property that every subset of the ground set of size $s$ is contained in a $2s$-element circuit and every subset of size $t$ is contained in a $2t$-element cocircuit. We say that such a matroid has the \emph{$(s,2s,t,2t)$-property}. A matroid is an \emph{$(s,t)$-spike} if there is a partition of the ground set into pairs such that the union of any $s$ pairs is a circuit and the union of any $t$ pairs is a cocircuit. Our main result is that all sufficiently large matroids with the $(s,2s,t,2t)$-property are $(s,t)$-spikes, generalizing a 2019 result that proved the case where $s=t$. We also present some properties of $(s,t)$-spikes.
A note on measure-theoretic domatic partitions
We show that if $(X,μ)$ is a standard probability space, then every $μ$-preserving $\aleph_0$-regular Borel graph on $X$ admits a $μ$-measurable vertex $\aleph_0$-coloring in which every vertex sees every color in its neighborhood.
3-Plethysms of homogeneous and elementary symmetric functions
We introduce the new combinatorial approach of plethystic type of tableaux, as a method to understand coefficients of Schur functions appearing in plethysms $s_ν[h_λ]$ and $s_ν[e_λ]$, for any partitions $λ$ and $ν$. We first give general results about this approach, then use results on tableaux, ribbon tableaux and integer points in polytopes to understand the case where $ν$ is a partition of $3$ and $λ$ has one part. We then use a \textit{Kronecker map} to extend these results to any partition $λ$.

Using equidistribution criteria, we establish divisibility by cyclotomic polynomials of several partition polynomials of interest, including $spt$-crank, overpartition pairs, and $t$-core partitions. As corollaries, we obtain new proofs of various Ramanujan-type congruences for associated partition functions. Moreover, using results of Erdös and Turán, we establish the equidistribution of roots of partition polynomials on the unit circle including those for the rank, crank, $spt$, and unimodal sequences. Our results complement earlier work on this topic by Stanley, Boyer-Goh, and others. We explain how our methods may be used to establish similar results for other partition polynomials of interest, and offer many related open questions and examples.

In this paper, we give a combinatorial proof of a positivity result of Chern related to Andrews's $\mathcal{EO}^*$-type partitions. This combinatorial proof comes after reframing Chern's result in terms of copartitions. Using this new perspective, we also reprove an overpartition result of Chern by showing that it comes essentially "for free" from our combinatorial proof and some basic properties of copartitions. Finally, the application of copartitions leads us to more general positivity conjectures for families of both infinite and finite products, with a proof in one special case.

In this paper, we extend the chromatic symmetric function $X$ to a chromatic $k$-multisymmetric function $X_k$, defined for graphs equipped with a partition of their vertex set into $k$ parts. We demonstrate that this new function retains the basic properties and basis expansions of $X$, and we give a method for systematically deriving new linear relationships for $X$ from previous ones by passing them through $X_k$.
In particular, we show how to take advantage of homogeneous sets of $G$ (those $S \subseteq V(G)$ such that each vertex of $V(G) \backslash S$ is either adjacent to all of $S$ or is nonadjacent to all of $S$) to relate the chromatic symmetric function of $G$ to those of simpler graphs. Furthermore, we show how extending this idea to homogeneous pairs $S_1 \sqcup S_2 \subseteq V(G)$ generalizes the process used by Guay-Paquet to reduce the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture to unit interval graphs.

The generalized cluster complex was introduced by Fomin and Reading, as a natural extension of the Fomin-Zelevinsky cluster complex coming from finite type cluster algebras. In this work, to each face of this complex we associate a parabolic conjugacy class of the underlying finite Coxeter group. We show that the refined enumeration of faces (respectively, positive faces) according to this data gives an explicit formula in terms of the corresponding characteristic polynomial (equivalently, in terms of Orlik-Solomon exponents). This characteristic polynomial originally comes from the theory of hyperplane arrangements, but it is conveniently defined via the parabolic Burnside ring. This makes a connection with the theory of parking spaces: our results eventually rely on some enumeration of chains of noncrossing partitions that were obtained in this context. The precise relations between the formulas counting faces and the one counting chains of noncrossing partitions are combinatorial reciprocities, generalizing the one between Narayana and Kirkman numbers.
Unimodality of ranks and a proof of Stanton's conjecture
Recently, much attention has been given to various inequalities among partition functions. For example, Nicolas, {and later DeSavlvo--Pak,} proved that $p(n)$ is eventually log-concave, and Ji--Zang showed that the cranks are eventually unimodal. This has led to a flurry of recent activity generalizing such results in different directions. At the same time, Stanton recently made deep conjectures on the positivity of certain polynomials associated to ranks and cranks of partitions, with the ultimate goal of pointing the way to ``deeper'' structure refining ranks and cranks. These have been shown to be robust in recent works, which have identified further infinite families of such conjectures in the case of colored partitions. In this paper, we employ the Circle Method to prove unimodality for ranks. As a corollary, we prove Stanton's original conjecture. This points to future study of the positive, integral coefficients Stanton conjectured to exist, hinting at new combinatorial structure yet to be uncovered.
Dynamics of Pop-Tsack Torsing

For a finite irreducible Coxeter group $(W,S)$ with a fixed Coxeter element $c$ and set of reflections $T$, Defant and Williams define a pop-tsack torsing operation $\mathrm{Popt}\colon W \to W$ given by $\mathrm{Popt}(w) = w \cdot π_T(w)^{-1}$ where $π_T(w) = \bigvee_{t \leq_{T}w, \ t \in T}^{NC(w,c)}t$ is the join of all reflections lying below $w$ in the absolute order in the non-crossing partition lattice $NC(w,c)$. This is a "dual" notion of the pop-stack sorting operator $\mathrm{Pops}$ introduced by Defant as a way to generalize the pop-stack sorting operator on $\mathfrak{S}_n$ to general Coxeter groups. Define the forward orbit of an element $w \in W$ to be $O_{\mathrm{Popt}}(w) = \{w, \mathrm{Popt}(w), \mathrm{Popt}^2(w), \ldots \}$. Defant and Williams established the length of the longest possible forward orbits $\max_{w \in W}|O_{\mathrm{Popt}}(w)|$ for Coxeter groups of coincidental types and type $D$ in terms of the corresponding Coxeter number of the group. In their paper, they also proposed multiple conjectures about enumerating elements with near maximal orbit length. We resolve all the conjectures that they have put forth about enumeration, and in the process we give complete classifications of these elements of Coxeter groups of types $A,B$ and $D$ with near maximal orbit lengths.
Exceptional sequences in semidistributive lattices and the poset topology of wide subcategories

Let $Λ$ be a finite-dimensional algebra over a field $K$. We describe how Buan and Marsh's $τ$-exceptional sequences can be used to give a "brick labeling" of a certain poset of wide subcategories of finitely-generated $Λ$-modules. When $Λ$ is representation-directed, we prove that there exists a total order on the set of bricks which makes this into an EL-labeling. Motivated by the connection between classical exceptional sequences and noncrossing partitions, we then turn our attention towards the study of (well-separated) completely semidistributive lattices. Such lattices come equipped with a bijection between their completely join-irreducible and completely meet-irreducible elements, known as rowmotion or simply the "$κ$-map". Generalizing known results for finite semidistributive lattices, we show that the $κ$-map determines exactly when a set of completely join-irreducible elements forms a "canonical join representation". A consequence is that the corresponding "canonical join complex" is a flag simplicial complex, as has been shown for finite semidistributive lattices and lattices of torsion classes of finite-dimensional algebras. Finally, in the case of lattices of torsion classes of finite-dimensional algebras, we demonstrate how Jasso's $τ$-tilting reduction can be encoded using the $κ$-map. We use this to define $κ^d$-exceptional sequences for finite semidistributive lattices. These are distinguished sequences of completely join-irreducible elements which we prove specialize to $τ$-exceptional sequences in the algebra setting.
Some consequences of Glaisher's map and a generalization of Sylvester's theorem
For positive integers $k, l \geq 2$, the set of $k$-regular partitions in which parts appear at most $l$ times has attracted a lot of interest in that a composition of Glaisher's mapping can be used to prove the associated partition identities in certain cases. We consider some special cases and derive some arithmetic properties. Of particular focus is the set of partitions in which parts are odd and distinct ($k =2$, $l = 2$). Sylvester proved that, for fixed weight, this set of partitions is equinumerous with the set of self-conjugate partitions. We introduce a new class of partitions that generalizes self-conjugate partitions and as a result, we extend Sylvester's theorem. Furthermore, using this class of partitions, we give new combinatorial interpretation of some Rogers-Ramanujan identities which were previously considered by A. K. Agarwal.
