We provide the law of large numbers for roots of finite free multiplicative convolution of polynomials which have only non-negative real roots. Moreover, we study the empirical root distributions of limit polynomials obtained through the law of large numbers of finite free multiplicative convolution when their degree tends to infinity.

Laguerre histories (restricted or not) are certain weighted Motzkin paths with two types of level steps. They are, on one hand, in natural bijection with the set of permutations, and on the other hand, yield combinatorial interpretations for the moments of Laguerre polynomials via Flajolet's combinatorial theory of continued fractions. In this paper, we first introduce a reflection-like involution on restricted Laguerre histories. Then, we demonstrate its power by composing this involution with three bijections due to Fran\ccon-Viennot, Foata-Zeilberger, and Yan-Zhou-Lin, respectively. A host of equidistribution results involving various (multiset-valued) permutation statistics follow from these applications. As byproducts, seven apparently new Mahonian statistics present themselves; new interpretations of known Mahonian statistics are discovered as well. Finally, in our effort to show the interconnections between these Mahonian statistics, we are naturally led to a new link between the variant Yan-Zhou-Lin bijection and the Kreweras complement.

Closed graphs have been characterized by Herzog et al. as the graphs whose binomial edge ideals have a quadratic Gröbner basis with respect to a diagonal term order. In this paper, we focus on a generalization of closed graphs, namely weakly-closed graphs (or co-comparability graphs). Build on some results about Knutson ideals of generic matrices, we characterize weakly closed graphs as the only graphs whose binomial edge ideals are Knutson ideals for a certain polynomial $f$. In doing so, we re-prove Matsuda's theorem about the F-purity of binomial edge ideals of weakly closed graphs in positive characteristic and we extend it to generalized binomial edge ideals. Furthermore, we give a characterization of weakly closed graphs in terms of the minimal primes of their binomial edge ideals and we characterize all minimal primes of Knutson ideals for this choice of $f$.

Let G be a graph of order $n$ with adjacency matrix $A(G)$ and diagonal matrix of degree $D(G)$. For every $α\in [0,1]$, Nikiforov \cite{VN17} defined the matrix $A_α(G) = αD(G) + (1-α)A(G)$. In this paper we present the $A_α(G)$-characteristic polynomial when $G$ is obtained by coalescing two graphs, and if $G$ is a semi-regular bipartite graph we obtain the $A_α$-characteristic polynomial of the line graph associated to $G$. Moreover, if $G$ is a regular graph we exhibit the $A_α$-characteristic polynomial for the graphs obtained from some operations.
Quasi-polynomial growth of numerical and affine semigroups with constrained gaps

A common tool in the theory of numerical semigroups is to interpret a desired class of semigroups as the integer lattice points in a rational polyhedron in order to leverage computational and enumerative techniques from polyhedral geometry. Most arguments of this type make use of a parametrization of numerical semigroups with fixed multiplicity $m$ in terms of their $m$-Apéry sets, giving a representation called Kunz coordinates which obey a collection of inequalities defining the Kunz polyhedron. In this work, we introduce a new class of polyhedra describing numerical semigroups in terms of a truncated addition table of their sporadic elements. Applying a classical theorem of Ehrhart to slices of these polyhedra, we prove that the number of numerical semigroups with $n$ sporadic elements and Frobenius number $f$ is polynomial up to periodicity, or quasi-polynomial, as a function of $f$ for fixed $n$. We also generalize this approach to higher dimensions to demonstrate quasi-polynomial growth of the number of affine semigroups with a fixed number of elements, and all gaps, contained in an integer dilation of a fixed polytope.

In this manuscript, we introduce (symmetric) Tetranacci polynomials $ξ_j$ as a twofold generalization of ordinary Tetranacci numbers, by considering both non unity coefficients and generic initial values in their recursive definition. The issue of these polynomials arose in condensed matter physics and the diagonalization of symmetric Toeplitz matrices having in total four non-zero off diagonals. For the latter, the symmetric Tetranacci polynomials are the basic entities of the associated eigenvectors; thus, treating the recursive structure determines the eigenvalues as well. Subsequently, we present a complete closed form expression for any symmetric Tetranacci polynomial. The key feature is a decomposition in terms of generalized Fibonacci polynomials.
Minimal resolutions of lattice ideals

A canonical minimal free resolution of an arbitrary co-artinian lattice ideal over the polynomial ring is constructed over any field whose characteristic is 0 or any but finitely many positive primes. The differential has a closed-form combinatorial description as a sum over lattice paths in $\mathbb{Z}^n$ of weights that come from sequences of faces in simplicial complexes indexed by lattice points. Over a field of any characteristic, a non-canonical but simpler resolution is constructed by selecting choices of higher-dimensional analogues of spanning trees along lattice paths. These constructions generalize sylvan resolutions for monomial ideals by lifting them equivariantly to lattice modules.
A Quiver Analogue of Higman's Conjecture
An unresolved conjecture by Graham Higman states that for all $n\geq 1$ the number of conjugacy classes of the group of $n \times n$ unitriangular matrices with entries in the finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$ is a polynomial in $q$. In this paper we introduce a new quiver generalization of the conjecture. Motivated by this generalization, we prove that certain operations on quivers leave the relevant counts unchanged. Based on these invariance properties, we solve the introduced conjecture for quivers containing no path of length exceeding two, providing explicit formulas.

The walk matrix of an $n$-vertex graph $G$ with adjacency matrix $A$, denoted by $W(G)$, is $[e,Ae,\ldots,A^{n-1}e]$, where $e$ is the all-ones vector. Let $G\circ P_m$ be the rooted product of $G$ and a rooted path $P_m$ (taking an endvertex as the root), i.e., $G\circ P_m$ is a graph obtained from $G$ and $n$ copies of $P_m$ by identifying each vertex of $G$ with an endvertex of a copy of $P_m$. Mao-Liu-Wang (2015) and Mao-Wang (2022) proved that, for $m=2$ and $m\in\{3,4\}$, respectively$$\det W(G\circ P_m)=\pm a_0^{\lfloor\frac{m}{2}\rfloor}(\det W(G))^m,$$ where $a_0$ is the constant term of the characteristic polynomial of $G$. Furthermore, Mao-Wang (2022) conjectured that the formula holds for any $m\ge 2$. In this note, we verify this conjecture using the technique of Chebyshev polynomials.
Partition Rank and Partition Lattices

We introduce a universal approach for applying the partition rank method, an extension of Tao's slice rank polynomial method, to tensors that are not diagonal. This is accomplished by generalizing Naslund's distinctness indicator to what we call a partition indicator. The advantages of partition indicators are two-fold: they diagonalize tensors that are constant when specified sets of variables are equal, and even in more general settings they can often substantially reduce the partition rank as compared to when a distinctness indicator is applied. The key to our discoveries is integrating the partition rank method with Möbius inversion on the lattice of partitions of a finite set. Through this we unify disparate applications of the partition rank method in the literature. We then use our theory to address a finite field analogue of a question of Erdős, thereby generalizing results of Hart and Iosevich and independently Shparlinski. Furthermore we generalize work of Pach, et al. on bounding sizes of sets avoiding right triangles to bounding sizes of sets avoiding right $k$-configurations.
Mengerian graphs: characterization and recognition

A temporal graph ${\cal G}$ is a graph that changes with time. More specifically, it is a pair $(G, λ)$ where $G$ is a graph and $λ$ is a function on the edges of $G$ that describes when each edge $e\in E(G)$ is active. Given vertices $s,t\in V(G)$, a temporal $s,t$-path is a path in $G$ that traverses edges in non-decreasing time; and if $s,t$ are non-adjacent, then a temporal $s,t$-cut is a subset $S\subseteq V(G)\setminus\{s,t\}$ whose removal destroys all temporal $s,t$-paths.
It is known that Menger's Theorem does not hold on this context, i.e., that the maximum number of internally vertex disjoint temporal $s,t$-paths is not necessarily equal to the minimum size of a temporal $s,t$-cut. In a seminal paper, Kempe, Kleinberg and Kumar (STOC'2000) defined a graph $G$ to be Mengerian if equality holds on $(G,λ)$ for every function $λ$. They then proved that, if each edge is allowed to be active only once in $(G,λ)$, then $G$ is Mengerian if and only if $G$ has no gem as topological minor. In this paper, we generalize their result by allowing edges to be active more than once, giving a characterization also in terms of forbidden structures. We additionally provide a polynomial time recognition algorithm.
Computing the theta function
Let $f: {\Bbb R}^n \longrightarrow {\Bbb R}$ be a positive definite quadratic form and let $y \in {\Bbb R}^n$ be a point. We present a fully polynomial randomized approximation scheme (FPRAS) for computing $\sum_{x \in {\Bbb Z}^n} e^{-f(x)}$, provided the eigenvalues of $f$ lie in the interval roughly between $s$ and $e^{s}$ and for computing $\sum_{x \in {\Bbb Z}^n} e^{-f(x-y)}$, provided the eigenvalues of $f$ lie in the interval roughly between $e^{-s}$ and $s^{-1}$ for some $s \geq 3$. To compute the first sum, we represent it as the integral of an explicit log-concave function on ${\Bbb R}^n$, and to compute the second sum, we use the reciprocity relation for theta functions. We then apply our results to test the existence of many short integer vectors in a given subspace $L \subset {\Bbb R}^n$, to estimate the distance from a given point to a lattice, and to sample a random lattice point from the discrete Gaussian distribution.
Skew Symplectic and Orthogonal Schur Functions

Using the vertex operator representations for symplectic and orthogonal Schur functions, we define two families of symmetric functions and show thatthey are the skew symplectic and skew orthogonal Schur polynomials defined implicitly by Koike and Terada and satisfy the general branching rules. Furthermore, we derive the Jacobi-Trudi identities and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns for these symmetric functions. Additionally, the vertex operator method yields their Cauchy-type identities. This demonstrates that vertex operator representations serve not only as a tool for studying symmetric functions but also offers unified realizations for skew Schur functions of types A, C, and D.

We study an operation in matroid theory that allows one to transition a given matroid into another with more bases via relaxing a \emph{stressed subset}. This framework provides a new combinatorial characterization of the class of split matroids. Moreover, it permits to describe an explicit matroid subdivision of a hypersimplex, which in turn can be used to write down concrete formulas for the evaluations of any valuative invariant on these matroids. This shows that evaluations on split matroids depend solely on the behavior of the invariant on tractable subclass of Schubert matroids. We address systematically the consequences of our approach for several invariants. They include the volume and Ehrhart polynomial of base polytopes, the Tutte polynomial, Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials, the Whitney numbers of the first and second kind, spectrum polynomials and a generalization of these by Denham, chain polynomials and Speyer's $g$-polynomials, as well as Chow rings of matroids and their Hilbert--Poincaré series. The flexibility of this setting allows us to give a unified explanation for several recent results regarding the listed invariants; furthermore, we emphasize it as a powerful computational tool to produce explicit data and concrete examples.
A Brightwell-Winkler type characterisation of NU graphs
In 2000, Brightwell and Winkler characterised dismantlable graphs as the graphs $H$ for which the Hom-graph ${\rm Hom}(G,H)$, defined on the set of homomorphisms from $G$ to $H$, is connected for all graphs $G$. This shows that the reconfiguration version ${\rm Recon_{Hom}}(H)$ of the $H$-colouring problem, in which one must decide for a given $G$ whether ${\rm Hom}(G,H)$ is connected, is trivial if and only if $H$ is dismantlable.
We prove a similar starting point for the reconfiguration version of the $H$-extension problem. Where ${\rm Hom}(G,H;p)$ is the subgraph of the Hom-graph ${\rm Hom}(G,H)$ induced by the $H$-colourings extending the $H$-precolouring $p$ of $G$, the reconfiguration version ${\rm Recon_{Ext}(H)}$ of the $H$-extension problem asks, for a given $H$-precolouring $p$ of a graph $G$, if ${\rm Hom}(G,H;p)$ is connected. We show that the graphs $H$ for which ${\rm Hom}(G,H;p)$ is connected for every choice of $(G,p)$ are exactly the ${\rm NU}$ graphs. This gives a new characterisation of ${\rm NU}$ graphs, a nice class of graphs that is important in the algebraic approach to the ${\rm CSP}$-dichotomy.
We further give bounds on the diameter of ${\rm Hom}(G,H;p)$ for ${\rm NU}$ graphs $H$, and show that shortest path between two vertices of ${\rm Hom}(G,H;p)$ can be found in parameterised polynomial time. We apply our results to the problem of shortest path reconfiguration, significantly extending recent results.
Remixed Eulerian numbers

Remixed Eulerian numbers are a polynomial $q$-deformation of Postnikov's mixed Eulerian numbers. They arose naturally in previous work by the authors concerning the permutahedral variety and subsume well-known families of polynomials such as $q$-binomial coefficients and Garsia--Remmel's $q$-hit numbers. We study their combinatorics in more depth. As polynomials in $q$, they are shown to be symmetric and unimodal. By interpreting them as computing success probabilities in a simple probabilistic process we arrive at a combinatorial interpretation involving weighted trees. By decomposing the permutahedron into certain combinatorial cubes, we obtain a second combinatorial interpretation. At $q=1$, the former recovers Postnikov's interpretation whereas the latter recovers Liu's interpretation, both of which were obtained via methods different from ours.
Down-up algebras and chromatic symmetric functions
We establish Guay-Paquet's unpublished linear relation between certain chromatic symmetric functions by relating his algebra on paths to the $q$-Klyachko algebra. The coefficients in this relations are $q$-hit polynomials, and they come up naturally in our setup as connected remixed Eulerian numbers, in contrast to the computational approach of Colmenarejo-Morales-Panova. As Guay-Paquet's algebra is a down-up algebra, we are able to harness algebraic results in the context of the latter and establish results of a combinatorial flavour. In particular we resolve a conjecture of Colmenarejo-Morales-Panova on chromatic symmetric functions. This concerns the abelian case of the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture, which we briefly survey.
Multiple orthogonal polynomials associated with branched continued fractions for ratios of hypergeometric series

The main objects of the investigation presented in this paper are branched-continued-fraction representations of ratios of contiguous hypergeometric series and type II multiple orthogonal polynomials on the step-line with respect to linear functionals or measures whose moments are ratios of products of Pochhammer symbols. This is an interesting case study of the recently found connection between multiple orthogonal polynomials and branched continued fractions that gives a clear example of how this connection leads to considerable advances on both topics. We obtain new results about generating polynomials of lattice paths and total positivity of matrices and give new contributions to the general theory of the connection between multiple orthogonal polynomials and branched continued fractions. We construct new branched continued fractions for ratios of contiguous hypergeometric series. We give conditions for positivity of the coefficients of these branched continued fractions and we show that the ratios of products of Pochhammer symbols are generating polynomials of lattice paths for a special case of the same branched continued fractions. We introduce a family of type II multiple orthogonal polynomials on the step-line associated with those branched continued fractions. We present a formula as terminating hypergeometric series for these polynomials, we study their differential properties, and we explicitly find their recurrence relation coefficients. Finally, we focus the analysis of the multiple orthogonal polynomials to the cases where the corresponding branched-continued-fraction coefficients are all positive. In those cases, the orthogonality conditions can be written using measures on the positive real line involving Meijer G-functions and we obtain results about the location of the zeros and the asymptotic behaviour of the polynomials.

Edge ideals of finite simple graphs are well-studied over polynomial rings. In this paper, we initiate the study of edge ideals over exterior algebras, specifically focusing on the depth and singular varieties of such ideals. We prove an upper bound on the depth of the edge ideal associated to a general graph and a more refined bound for bipartite graphs, and we show that both are tight. We also compute the depth of several large families of graphs including cycles, complete multipartite graphs, spider graphs, and Ferrers graphs. Finally, we focus on the effect whiskering a graph has on the depth of the associated edge ideal.

We calculate the $p$-Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials for Hermitian symmetric pairs and prove that the corresponding anti-spherical Hecke categories categories are standard Koszul. We prove that the combinatorial invariance conjecture can be lifted to the level of graded Morita equivalences between subquotients of these Hecke categories.
