Signatures of Type $A$ Root Systems
Given a type $A$ root system $Φ$ of rank $n$, we introduce the concept of a signature for each subset $S$ of $Φ$ consisting of $n+1$ positive roots. For a subset $S$ represented by a tuple $(β_1, \ldots, β_{n+1})$, the signature of $S$ is defined as an unordered pair $\{a, b\}$, where $a$ and $b$ denote the numbers of $1$s and $-1$s, respectively, among the cofactors $(-1)^k \det(S \setminus \{β_k\})$ for $1 \le k \le n+1$. We prove that the number of tuples with a given signature can be expressed in terms of classical Eulerian numbers. The study of these signatures is motivated by their connections to the arithmetic and combinatorial properties of cones over deformed arrangements defined by $Φ$, including the Shi, Catalan, Linial, and Ish arrangements. We apply our main result to compute two important invariants of these arrangements: The minimum period of the characteristic quasi-polynomial, and the evaluation of the classical and arithmetic Tutte polynomials at $(1, 1)$.
Planar and Outerplanar Spectral Extremal Problems based on Paths
Let SPEX$_\mathcal{P}(n,F)$ and SPEX$_\mathcal{OP}(n,F)$ denote the sets of graphs with the maximum spectral radius over all $n$-vertex $F$-free planar and outerplanar graphs, respectively. Define $tP_l$ as a linear forest of $t$ vertex-disjoint $l$-paths and $P_{t\cdot l}$ as a starlike tree with $t$ branches of length $l-1$. Building on the structural framework by Tait and Tobin [J. Combin. Theory Ser. B, 2017] and the works of Fang, Lin and Shi [J. Graph Theory, 2024] on the planar spectral extremal graphs without vertex-disjoint cycles, this paper determines the extremal graphs in $\text{SPEX}_\mathcal{P}(n,tP_l)$ and $\text{SPEX}_\mathcal{OP}(n,tP_l)$ for sufficiently large $n$. When $t=1$, since $tP_l$ is a path of a specific length, our results adapt Nikiforov's findings [Linear Algebra Appl. 2010] under the (outer)planarity condition. When $l=2$, note that $tP_l$ consists of $t$ independent $K_2$, then as a corollary, we generalize the results of Wang, Huang and Lin [arXiv: 2402.16419] and Yin and Li [arXiv:2409.18598v2]. Moreover, motivated by results of Zhai and Liu [Adv. in Appl. Math, 2024], we consider the extremal problems for edge-disjoint paths and determine the extremal graphs in $\text{SPEX}_\mathcal{P}(n,P_{t\cdot l})$ and $\text{SPEX}_\mathcal{OP}(n,P_{t\cdot l})$ for sufficiently large $n$.
Every $2k$-connected $(P_2\cup kP_1)$-free graph with toughness greater than one is hamiltonian-connected
Given a graph $H$, a graph $G$ is $H$-free if $G$ does not contain $H$ as an induced subgraph. Shi and Shan conjectured that every $1$-tough $2k$-connected $(P_2 \cup kP_1)$-free graph is hamiltonian for $k \geq 4$. This conjecture has been independently confirmed by Xu, Li, and Zhou, as well as by Ota and Sanka. Inspired by this, we prove that every $2k$-connected $(P_2\cup kP_1)$-free graph with toughness greater than one is hamiltonian-connected.
Dense $2$-connected planar graphs and the planar Turán number of $2C_k$
Shi, Walsh and Yu demonstrated that any dense planar graph with certain property (known as circuit graph) contains a large near-triangulation. We extend the result to $2$-connected plane graphs, thereby addressing a question posed by them. Using the result, we prove that the planar Tuán number of $2C_k$ is $\left[3-Θ(k^{\log_23})^{-1}\right]n$ when $k\geq 5$.
Cycles and paths through specified vertices in graphs with a given clique number
B. Bollobás and G. Brightwell and independently R. Shi proved the existence of a cycle through all vertices whose degrees at least $\frac{n}{2}$ in any $2$-connected graph of order $n$. Motivated by this result, we prove the existence of a cycle through all vertices whose degrees at least $n-ω$ in any $2$-connected graph $G$ of order $n$ with clique number $ω$ unless $G$ is a specific graph. Moreover, we show that for any pair of vertices whose degrees are at least $n-ω+1$ in a graph $G$ of order $n$ with clique number $ω$, there exists a path joining them which contains all vertices of degree at least $n-ω+1$ unless $G$ belongs to certain graph classes. In doing so, we prove the existence of a $(u,v)$-path through all vertices whose degrees at least $\frac{n+1}{2}$ in any graph of order $n$, where $u,v$ are two distinct vertices of degree at least $\frac{n+1}{2}$.
Non-uniform Cross-intersecting Families
Let $m\geq 2$, $n$ be positive integers, and $R_i=\{k_{i,1} >k_{i,2} >\cdots> k_{i,t_i}\}$ be subsets of $[n]$ for $i=1,2,\ldots,m$. The families $\mathcal{F}_1\subseteq \binom{[n]}{R_1},\mathcal{F}_2\subseteq \binom{[n]}{R_2},\ldots,\mathcal{F}_m\subseteq \binom{[n]}{R_m}$ are said to be non-empty cross-intersecting if for each $i\in [m]$, $\mathcal{F}_i\neq\emptyset$ and for any $A\in \mathcal{F}_i,B\in\mathcal{F}_j$, $1\leq i<j\leq m$, $|A\bigcap B|\geq1$. In this paper, we determine the maximum value of $\sum_{j=1}^{m}|\mathcal{F}_j|$ for non-empty cross-intersecting family $\mathcal{F}_1, \mathcal{F}_2,\ldots,\mathcal{F}_m$ when $n\geq k_1+k_2$, where $k_1$ (respectively, $k_2$) is the largest (respectively, second largest) value in $\{k_{1,1},k_{2,1},\ldots,k_{m,1}\}$. This result is a generalization of the results by Shi, Frankl and Qian \cite{shi2022non} on non-empty cross-intersecting families. Moreover, the extremal families are completely characterized.
A Bijection Between All Shi Regions and Core Partitions
We extend the bijection of Fishel-Vazirani on dominant regions of the $m$-Shi arrangement. Our map puts the set of all minimal chambers of the $m$-Shi arrangement of Type $A_{n}$ in bijection with a certain set of (equivalence classes of) $n$-core partitions. As a step to our proof, we give a potentially interesting classification of the alcoves in the $S_{n}$-orbit of an $m$-minimal alcove which are themselves $m$-minimal.
Rank-$N$ Dimer Models on Surfaces
The web trace theorem of Douglas, Kenyon, Shi expands the twisted Kasteleyn determinant in terms of traces of webs. We generalize this theorem to higher genus surfaces and expand the twisted Kasteleyn matrices corresponding to spin structures on the surface, analogously to the rank-1 case of Cimasoni, Reshetikhin. In the process of the proof, we give an alternate geometric derivation of the planar web trace theorem, relying on the spin geometry of embedded loops and a `racetrack construction' used to immerse loops in the blowup graph on the surface.
A Fan-type condition for cycles in $1$-tough and $k$-connected $(P_2\cup kP_1)$-free graphs
For a graph $G$, let $μ_k(G):=\min~\{\max_{x\in S}d_G(x):~S\in \mathcal{S}_k\}$, where $\mathcal{S}_k$ is the set consisting of all independent sets $\{u_1,\ldots,u_k\}$ of $G$ such that some vertex, say $u_i$ ($1\leq i\leq k$), is at distance two from every other vertex in it. A graph $G$ is $1$-tough if for each cut set $S\subseteq V(G)$, $G-S$ has at most $|S|$ components. Recently, Shi and Shan \cite{Shi} conjectured that for each integer $k\geq 4$, being $2k$-connected is sufficient for $1$-tough $(P_2\cup kP_1)$-free graphs to be hamiltonian, which was confirmed by Xu et al. \cite{Xu} and Ota and Sanka \cite{Ota2}, respectively. In this article, we generalize the above results through the following Fan-type theorem: Let $k$ be an integer with $k\geq 2$ and let $G$ be a $1$-tough and $k$-connected $(P_2\cup kP_1)$-free graph with $μ_{k+1}(G)\geq\frac{7k-6}{5}$, then $G$ is hamiltonian or the Petersen graph.
Dynamical characterization of central sets in adequate partial semigroups
Using the methods from topological dynamics, H. Furstenberg introduced the notions of Central sets and proved the famous Central Sets Theorem which is the simultaneous extension of the van der Waerden and Hindman Theorem. Later N. Hindman and V. Bergelson found an equivalent formulation of Central sets in the set of natural numbers in terms of the algebra of the Stone-Čech compactification of discrete semigroups. The general case was proved by H. Shi and H. Yang. Using the notions of ultrafilters, J. McLeod introduced the notions of Central sets for commutative adequate partial semigroups, however for noncommutative cases, Central sets can be defined similarly. In this article, introducing the notions of topological dynamics for partial semigroup actions, we find an equivalent dynamical characterization of central sets in partial semigroups\footnote{Recently in \cite{GTG}, authors attempted to do the same but in a different approach.}. Throughout our article, we follow the approach of N. Hindman and D. Strauss [N. Hindman, and D. Strauss: Algebra in the Stone-\v Cech compactification: theory and applications, second edition, de Gruyter, Berlin, 2012.].
Characteristic quasi-polynomials of deletions of Shi arrangements of type B and their period collapse
Characteristic quasi-polynomials are the enumerative functions counting the number of elements in the complement of hyperplane arrangements modulo positive integers. A notable phenomenon in this context is period collapse, where the quasi-polynomial reduces to a polynomial or has a smaller period than the lcm period. In this paper, we compute the characteristic quasi-polynomials of the restriction of the Shi arrangement of type B by one given hyperplane. As a corollary, we completely determine whether period collapse occurs in the characteristic quasi-polynomial of the deletion of the Shi arrangement of type B. This implies the solution for the conjecture posed by Higashitani, Tran and Yoshinaga in this case.
The maximum number of cliques in graphs with given fractional matching number and minimum degree
Recently, Ma, Qian and Shi determined the maximum size of an $n$-vertex graph with given fractional matching number $s$ and maximum degree at most $d$. Motivated by this result, we determine the maximum number of $\ell$-cliques in a graph with given fractional matching number and minimum degree, which generalizes Shi and Ma's result about the maximum size of a graph with given fractional matching number and minimum degree at least one. We also determine the maximum number of complete bipartite graphs in a graph with prescribed fractional matching number and minimum degree.
Worpitzky-compatible sets and the freeness of arrangements between Shi and Catalan
Given an irreducible root system, the Worpitzky-compatible subsets are defined by a geometric property of the alcoves inside the fundamental parallelepiped of the root system. This concept is motivated and mainly understood through a lattice point counting formula concerning the characteristic and Ehrhart quasi-polynomials. In this paper, we show that the Worpitzky-compatibility has a simple combinatorial characterization in terms of roots. As a byproduct, we obtain a complete characterization by means of Worpitzky-compatibility for the freeness of the arrangements interpolating between the extended Shi and Catalan arrangements. This is a completion of the earlier result by Yoshinaga in 2010 which was done for simply-laced root systems.
The extremal generalised Randić index for a given degree range
O and Shi proved that the Randić index of any graph $G$ with minimum degree at least $δ$ and maximum degree at most $Δ$ is at least $\frac{\sqrt{δΔ}}{δ+Δ}|G|$, with equality if and only if the graph is $(δ,Δ)$-biregular. In this note we give a short proof via a more general statement. We apply the latter to classify the graphs in any given degree range which minimise (or maximise) the generalised Randić index for any exponent, and describe the transitions between different types of behaviour precisely.
Degree powers and number of stars in graphs with a forbidden broom
Given a graph $G$ with degree sequence $d_1,\dots, d_n$ and a positive integer $r$, let $e_r(G)=\sum_{i=1}^n d_i^r$. We denote by $\mathrm{ex}_r(n,F)$ the largest value of $e_r(G)$ among $n$-vertex $F$-free graphs $G$, and by $\mathrm{ex}(n,S_r,G)$ the largest number of stars $S_r$ in $n$-vertex $F$-free graphs. The \textit{broom} $B(\ell,s)$ is the graph obtained from an $\ell$-vertex path by adding $s$ new leaves connected to a penultimate vertex $v$ of the path.
We determine $\mathrm{ex}_r(n,B(\ell,s))$ for $r\ge 2$, any $\ell,s$ and sufficiently large $n$, proving a conjecture of Lan, Liu, Qin and Shi. We also determine $\mathrm{ex}(n,S_r,B(\ell,s))$ for $r\ge 2$, any $\ell,s$ and sufficiently large $n$.
Lattice paths and Rogers--Ramanujan--Gordon type overpartitions
In this paper, we establish a connection between Rogers-Ramanujan-Gordon type overpartitions to lattice paths with four kinds of unitary steps. By establishing the bijective relationship between overpartitions and lattice paths, we demonstrate that the theorems provided by Chen, Sang and Shi can be formulated in the form of lattice paths. Subsequently, inspired by Andrews' work on parity in partition identities and its related implications, we impose parity constraints on lattice paths and present some novel discoveries. By leveraging the parity outcomes within lattice paths, we also revisit overpartitions to derive results pertaining to overpartitions with parity considerations.

Combining Carver's variant of the Farkas' lemma with the Flow Decomposition Theorem we show that the regions of any deformation of a graphical arrangement may be bijectively labeled with a set of weighted digraphs containing directed cycles of negative weight only. Bounded regions correspond to strongly connected digraphs. The study of the resulting labelings allows us to add the omitted details in Stanley's proof on the injectivity of the Pak-Stanley labeling of the regions of the extended Shi arrangement, to generalize the ceiling diagrams in the deleted Shi and Ish arrangements studied by Armstrong and Rhoades and to introduce a new labeling of the regions in the Fuss-Catalan arrangement. We also point out that Athanasiadis-Linusson labelings may be used to directly count regions in a class of arrangements properly containing the extended Shi arrangement and the Fuss-Catalan arrangement.
Higher-rank dimer models
Let $G$ be a bipartite planar graph with edges directed from black to white. For each vertex $v$ let $n_v$ be a positive integer. A multiweb in $G$ is a multigraph with multiplicity $n_v$ at vertex $v$. A connection is a choice of linear maps on edges $Φ=\{φ_{bw}\}_{bw\in E}$ where $φ_{bw}\in \mathrm{Hom}({\mathbb R}^{n_b},{\mathbb R}^{n_w})$. Associated to $Φ$ is a function on multiwebs, the trace $Tr_Φ$. We define an associated Kasteleyn matrix $K=K(Φ)$ in this setting and write $\det K$ as the sum of traces of all multiwebs. This generalizes Kasteleyn's theorem and the result of [Douglas, Kenyon, Shi: Dimers, webs, and local systems, Trans. AMS 2023].
We study connections with positive traces, and define the associated probability measure on multiwebs. By careful choice of connection we can thus encode the "free fermionic" subvarieties for vertex models such as the $6$-vertex model and $20$-vertex models, and in particular give determinantal solutions.
We also find for each multiweb system an equivalent scalar system, that is, a planar bipartite graph $H$ and a local measure-preserving mapping from dimer covers of $H$ to multiwebs on $G$. We identify a family of positive connections as those whose scalar versions have positive face weights.
The minimum degree of minimal $k$-factor-critical claw-free graphs*
A graph $G$ of order $n$ is said to be $k$-factor-critical for integers $1\leq k< n$, if the removal of any $k$ vertices results in a graph with a perfect matching. A $k$-factor-critical graph is minimal if for every edge, the deletion of it results in a graph that is not $k$-factor-critical. In 1998, O. Favaron and M. Shi conjectured that every minimal $k$-factor-critical graph has minimum degree $k+1$. In this paper, we confirm the conjecture for minimal $k$-factor-critical claw-free graphs. Moreover, we show that every minimal $k$-factor-critical claw-free graph $G$ has at least $\frac{k-1}{2k}|V(G)|$ vertices of degree $k+1$ in the case of $(k+1)$-connected, yielding further evidence for S. Norine and R. Thomas' conjecture on the minimum degree of minimal bricks when $k=2$.
A Pair of Garside Shadows
We prove that the smallest elements of Shi parts and cone type parts exist and form Garside shadows. The latter resolves a conjecture of Parkinson and the second author as well as a conjecture of Hohlweg, Nadeau and Williams.
