A Cayley graph on the symmetric group $S_n$ is said to have the Aldous property if its strictly second largest eigenvalue (that is, the largest eigenvalue strictly smaller than the degree) is attained by the standard representation of $S_n$. For $1\leq r < k < n$, let $C(n,k;r)$ be the set of $k$-cycles of $S_n$ moving every point in $\{1, \ldots, r\}$. Recently, Siemons and Zalesski [J. Algebraic Combin. 55 (2022) 989--1005] posed a conjecture which is equivalent to saying that for any $n \ge 5$ and $1\leq r<k<n$ the nonnormal Cayley graph $\mathrm{Cay}(S_n, C(n,k;r))$ on $S_n$ with connection set $C(n,k;r)$ has the Aldous property. Solving this conjecture, we prove that all these graphs have the Aldous property except when (i) $(n, k, r) = (6, 5, 1)$ or (ii) $n$ is odd, $k = n-1$, and $1 \le r < \frac{n}{2}$. Along the way we determine all irreducible representations of $S_n$ that can achieve the strictly second largest eigenvalue of $\mathrm{Cay}(S_n, C(n,n-1;r))$ as well as the smallest eigenvalue of this graph.
Zero fibers of quaternionic quotient singularities
We propose a generalization of Haiman's conjecture on the diagonal coinvariant rings of real reflection groups to the context of irreducible quaternionic reflection groups (also known as symplectic reflection groups). For a reflection group $W$ acting on a quaternionic vector space $V$, by regarding $V$ as a complex vector space we consider the scheme-theoretic fiber over zero of the quotient map $π:V \to V/W$. For $W$ an irreducible reflection group of (quaternionic) rank at least $6$, we show that the ring of functions on this fiber admits a $(g+1)^n$-dimensional quotient arising from an irreducible representation of a symplectic reflection algebra, where $g=2N/n$ with $N$ the number of reflections in $W$ and $n=\mathrm{dim}_\mathbf{H}(V)$, and we conjecture that this holds in general. We observe that in fact the degree of the zero fiber is precisely $g+1$ for the rank one groups (corresponding to the Kleinian singularities). In an appendix, we give a proof that three variants of the Coxeter number, including $g$, are integers.
Product Mixing in Compact Lie Groups
If $G$ is a group, we say a subset $S$ of $G$ is product-free if the equation $xy=z$ has no solutions with $x,y,z \in S$. For $D \in \mathbb{N}$, a group $G$ is said to be $D$-quasirandom if the minimal dimension of a nontrivial complex irreducible representation of $G$ is at least $D$. Gowers showed that in a $D$-quasirandom finite group $G$, the maximal size of a product-free set is at most $|G|/D^{1/3}$. This disproved a longstanding conjecture of Babai and Sós from 1985.
For the special unitary group, $G=SU(n)$, Gowers observed that his argument yields an upper bound of $n^{-1/3}$ on the measure of a measurable product-free subset. In this paper, we improve Gowers' upper bound to $\exp(-cn^{1/3})$, where $c>0$ is an absolute constant. In fact, we establish something stronger, namely, product-mixing for measurable subsets of $SU(n)$ with measure at least $\exp(-cn^{1/3})$; for this product-mixing result, the $n^{1/3}$ in the exponent is sharp.
Our approach involves introducing novel hypercontractive inequalities, which imply that the non-Abelian Fourier spectrum of the indicator function of a small set concentrates on high-dimensional irreducible representations.
Our hypercontractive inequalities are obtained via methods from representation theory, harmonic analysis, random matrix theory and differential geometry. We generalize our hypercontractive inequalities from $SU(n)$ to an arbitrary $D$-quasirandom compact connected Lie group for $D$ at least an absolute constant, thereby extending our results on product-free sets to such groups.
We also demonstrate various other applications of our inequalities to geometry (viz., non-Abelian Brunn-Minkowski type inequalities), mixing times, and the theory of growth in compact Lie groups.
On the action of the symmetric group on the free LAnKe
A LAnKe (also known as a Filippov algebra or a Lie algebra of the $n$-th kind) is a vector space equipped with a skew-symmetric $n$-linear form that satisfies the generalized Jacobi identity. Friedmann, Hanlon, Stanley and Wachs have shown that the symmetric group acts on the multilinear part of the free LAnKe on $2n-1$ generators as an irreducible representation. They announced that the multilinear component on $3n-2$ generators decomposes as a direct sum of two irreducible symmetric group representations and a proof was given recently in a subsequent paper by Friedmann, Hanlon and Wachs. In the present paper we provide a proof of the later statement. The two proofs are substantially different.

Let $W$ be a group endowed with a finite set $S$ of generators. A representation $(V,ρ)$ of $W$ is called a reflection representation of $(W,S)$ if $ρ(s)$ is a (generalized) reflection on $V$ for each generator $s \in S$. In this paper, we prove that for any irreducible reflection representation $V$, all the exterior powers $\bigwedge ^d V$, $d = 0, 1, \dots, \dim V$, are irreducible $W$-modules, and they are non-isomorphic to each other. This extends a theorem of R. Steinberg which is stated for Euclidean reflection groups. Moreover, we prove that the exterior powers (except for the 0th and the highest power) of two non-isomorphic reflection representations always give non-isomorphic $W$-modules. This allows us to construct numerous pairwise non-isomorphic irreducible representations for such groups, especially for Coxeter groups.
A determinantal formula for orthosymplectic Schur functions
We prove a new determinantal formula for the characters of irreducible representations of orthosymplectic Lie superalgebras analogous to the formula developed by Moens and Jeugt (J. Algebraic Combin., 2003) for general linear Lie superalgebras. Our proof uses the Jacobi--Trudi type formulas for orthosymplectic characters. As a consequence, we show that the odd symplectic characters introduced by Proctor (Invent. Math., 1988) are the same as the orthosymplectic characters with some specialized indeterminates. We also give a generalization of an odd symplectic character identity due to Brent, Krattenthaler and Warnaar (J. Combin. Theory Ser. A, 2016).

We compute the homology of the matching complex $M(Γ)$, where $Γ$ is the complete hypergraph on $n\geq 2$ vertices, and analyse the $S_n$-representations carried by this homology. These results are achieved using standard techniques in combinatorial topology, such as the theory of shellings. We then broaden the scope to the larger class of fibre-closed families of simplicial complexes and consider these through the lens of representation stability. This allows us to prove a number of results of an asymptotic nature, such as an analysis of the growth of Betti numbers and the kinds of irreducible $S_n$-representations that appear.
On the Divisibility of Degrees of Representations of Lie Algebras
Let $\mathfrak g$ be a reductive Lie algebra, and $m$ a positive integer. There is a natural density of irreducible representations of $\mathfrak g$, whose degrees are not divisible by $m$. For $\mathfrak g=\mathfrak{gl}_n$, this density decays exponentially to $0$ as $n \to \infty$. Similar results hold for simple Lie algebras and Lie groups, and there are versions for self-dual and orthogonal representations.
Motivic factorisation of KZ local systems and deformations of representation and fusion rings
Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple Lie algebra over $\mathbb{C}$. The KZ connection is a connection on the constant bundle associated to a set of $n$ finite dimensional irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{g}$ and a nonzero $κ\in \mathbb{C}$, over the configuration space of $n$-distinct points on the affine line. Via the work of Schechtman--Varchenko and Looijenga, when $κ$ is a rational number the associated local systems can be seen to be realisations of naturally defined motivic local systems. We prove a basic factorisation for the nearby cycles of these motivic local systems as some of the $n$ points coalesce.
This leads to the construction of a family (parametrised by $κ$) of deformations over $\mathbb{Z}[t]$ of the representation ring of $\mathfrak{g}$--we call these enriched representation rings--which allows one to compute the ranks of the Hodge filtration of the associated variations of mixed Hodge structure; in turn, this has applications to both the local and global monodromy of the KZ connection. In the case of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ we give an explicit algorithm for computing all products in the enriched representation rings, which we use to prove that if $1/κ$ is an integer then the global monodromy is finite and scalar.
We also prove a similar factorisation result for motivic local systems associated to conformal blocks in genus $0$; this leads to the construction of a family of deformations of the fusion rings. Computations in these rings have potential applications to finiteness of global monodromy.
Several open problems and conjectures are formulated. These include questions about motivic BGG-type resolutions and the relationship between the Hodge filtration and the filtration by conformal blocks at varying levels.
On the Spectrum of Exterior Algebra, and Generalized Exponents of Small Representations
We present some results about the irreducible representations appearing in the exterior algebra $Λ\mathfrak{g}$, where $ \mathfrak{g}$ is a simple Lie algebra over $\mathbb{C}$. For Lie algebras of type $B$, $C$ or $D$ we prove that certain irreducible representations, associated to weights characterized in a combinatorial way, appear as irreducible components of $Λ\mathfrak{g}$. Moreover, we propose an analogue of a conjecture of Kostant, about irreducibles appearing in the exterior algebra of the little adjoint representation. Finally, we give some closed expressions, in type $B$, $C$ and $D$, for generalized exponents of small representations that are fundamental representations and we propose a generalization of some results of De Concini, Möseneder Frajria, Procesi and Papi about the module of special covariants of adjoint and little adjoint type.
On the Kronecker product of Schur functions of square shapes
Motivated by the Saxl conjecture and the tensor square conjecture, which states that the tensor squares of certain irreducible representations of the symmetric group contain all irreducible representations, we study the tensor squares of irreducible representations associated with square Young diagrams. We give a formula for computing Kronecker coefficients, which are indexed by two square partitions and a three-row partition, specifically one with a short second row and the smallest part equal to 1. We also prove the positivity of square Kronecker coefficients for particular families of partitions, including three-row partitions and near-hooks.
On the Existence of Elementwise Invariant Vectors in Representations of Symmetric Groups
We determine when a permutation with cycle type $μ$ admits a non-zero invariant vector in the irreducible representation $V_λ$ of the symmetric group. We find that a majority of pairs $(λ,μ)$ have this property, with only a few simple exceptions.

Webs yield an especially important realization of certain Specht modules, irreducible representations of symmetric groups, as they provide a pictorial basis with a convenient diagrammatic calculus. In recent work, the last three authors associated polynomials to noncrossing partitions without singleton blocks, so that the corresponding polynomials form a web basis of the pennant Specht module $S^{(d,d,1^{n-2d})}$. These polynomials were interpreted as global sections of a line bundle on a 2-step partial flag variety.
Here, we both simplify and extend this construction. On the one hand, we show that these polynomials can alternatively be situated in the homogeneous coordinate ring of a Grassmannian, instead of a 2-step partial flag variety, and can be realized as tensor invariants of classical (but highly nonplanar) tensor diagrams. On the other hand, we extend these ideas from the pennant Specht module $S^{(d,d,1^{n-2d})}$ to more general flamingo Specht modules $S^{(d^r,1^{n-rd})}$. In the hook case $r=1$, we obtain a spanning set that can be restricted to a basis in various ways. In the case $r>2$, we obtain a basis of a well-behaved subspace of $S^{(d^r,1^{n-rd})}$, but not of the entire module.

The classical Capelli identity is an important determinantal identity of a matrix with noncommutative entries that determines the center of the enveloping algebra of the general linear Lie algebra, and was used by Weyl as a main tool to study irreducible representations in his famous book on classical groups.
In 1996 Okounkov found higher Capelli identities involving immanants of the generating matrix of $U(gl(n))$ which correspond to arbitrary orthogonal idempotent of the symmetric group. It turns out that Williamson also discovered a general Capelli identity of immanants for $U(gl(n))$ in 1981. In this paper, we use a new method to derive a family of even more general Capelli identities that include the aforementioned Capelli identities as special cases as well as many other Capelli-type identities as corollaries. In particular, we obtain generalized Turnbull's identities for both symmetric and antisymmetric matrices, as well as the generalized Howe-Umeda-Kostant-Sahi identities for antisymmetric matrices which confirm the conjecture of Caracciolo, Sokal, and Sportiello.
Schur-Positivity of Short Chords in Matchings
We prove that the set of matchings with a fixed number of unmatched vertices is Schur-positive with respect to the set of short chords. Two proofs are presented. The first proof applies a new combinatorial criterion for Schur-positivity, while the second is bijective. The coefficients in the Schur expansion are derived, and interpreted in terms of Bessel polynomials. We present a Knuth-like equivalence relation on matchings, and show that every equivalence class corresponds to an irreducible representation. We proceed to find various refined Schur-positive sets, including the set of matchings with a prescribed crossing number and the set of matchings with a given number of pairs of intersecting chords. Finally, we characterize all the matchings $m$ such that the set of matchings avoiding $m$ is Schur-positive.
A diagram-like basis for the multiset partition algebra
There is a classical connection between the representation theory of the symmetric group and the general linear group called Schur-Weyl duality. Variations on this principle yield analogous connections between the symmetric group and other objects such as the partition algebra and more recently the multiset partition algebra. The partition algebra has a well-known basis indexed by graph-theoretic diagrams which allows the multiplication in the algebra to be understood visually as combinations of these diagrams. We construct an analogous basis for the multiset partition algebra called the diagram-like basis and use this basis to construct its irreducible representations and give a generating set. We also provide a change-of-basis from the orbit basis of the multiset partition algebra to this diagram-like basis which exhibits similarities to the analogous change of basis for the partition algebra.
On the action of the Weyl group on canonical bases
We study representations of simply-laced Weyl groups which are equipped with canonical bases. Our main result is that for a large class of representations, the separable elements of the Weyl group $W$ act on these canonical bases by bijections up to lower-order terms. Examples of this phenomenon include the action of separable permutations on the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis of irreducible representations for the symmetric group, and the action of separable elements of $W$ on dual canonical bases of weight zero in tensor product representations of a Lie algebra. Our methods arise from categorical representation theory, and in particular the study of the perversity of Rickard complexes acting on triangulated categories.
Machine-Learning Kronecker Coefficients
The Kronecker coefficients are the decomposition multiplicities of the tensor product of two irreducible representations of the symmetric group. Unlike the Littlewood--Richardson coefficients, which are the analogues for the general linear group, there is no known combinatorial description of the Kronecker coefficients, and it is an NP-hard problem to decide whether a given Kronecker coefficient is zero or not. In this paper, we show that standard machine-learning algorithms such as Nearest Neighbors, Convolutional Neural Networks and Gradient Boosting Decision Trees may be trained to predict whether a given Kronecker coefficient is zero or not. Our results show that a trained machine can efficiently perform this binary classification with high accuracy ($\approx 0.98$).
Terwilliger algebras of generalized wreath products of association schemes
The generalized wreath product of symmetric association schemes was introduced by R.A.Bailey in the European Journal of Combinatorics 27 (2006) 428-435. It is recognized as a unification of both the wreath product and the direct product of symmetric association schemes. While its potential applicability to any association scheme had been implied, this paper provides a formal and explicit confirmation of that claim. Moreover, we establish the irreducible representations of its adjacency algebra and Terwilliger algebra.

We prove a short, root-system uniform, combinatorial classification of Levi-spherical Schubert varieties for any generalized flag variety $G/B$ of finite Lie type. We apply this to the study of multiplicity-free decompositions of a Demazure module into irreducible representations of a Levi subgroup.
