We consider the conjugation-action of the Borel subgroup of the symplectic or the orthogonal group on the variety of nilpotent complex elements of nilpotency degree $2$ in its Lie algebra. We translate the setup to a representation-theoretic context in the language of a symmetric quiver algebra. This makes it possible to provide a parametrization of the orbits via a combinatorial tool that we call symplectic/orthogonal oriented link patterns. We deduce information about numerology. We then generalize these classifications to standard parabolic subgroups for all classical groups. Finally, our results are restricted to the nilradical.

We write explicit contour integral formulas for probability distributions of the multi-species q-TAZRP and the multi-species ASEP starting with q-exchangeable initial conditions. The formulas are equal to the corresponding explicit contour integral formulas for the single-species q-TAZRP ([Korhonen-Lee 2014, Wang-Waugh 2016]) and ASEP [Tracy-Widom 2007], with a factor in front of the integral.
For the multi-species q-TAZRP, we use a decomposition theorem for elements of double cosets of parabolic subgroups in a Coxeter group. The set of distinguished double coset representatives with minimal length is viewed as a particle configuration. For the multi-species ASEP we use a more direct proof.
Lattice homomorphisms between weak orders

We classify surjective lattice homomorphisms $W\to W'$ between the weak orders on finite Coxeter groups. Equivalently, we classify lattice congruences $Θ$ on $W$ such that the quotient $W/Θ$ is isomorphic to $W'$. Surprisingly, surjective homomorphisms exist quite generally: They exist if and only if the diagram of $W'$ is obtained from the diagram of $W$ by deleting vertices, deleting edges, and/or decreasing edge labels. A surjective homomorphism $W\to W'$ is determined by its restrictions to rank-two standard parabolic subgroups of $W$. Despite seeming natural in the setting of Coxeter groups, this determination in rank two is nontrivial. Indeed, from the combinatorial lattice theory point of view, all of these classification results should appear unlikely a priori. As an application of the classification of surjective homomorphisms between weak orders, we also obtain a classification of surjective homomorphisms between Cambrian lattices and a general construction of refinement relations between Cambrian fans.

We show that for a parabolic quasi-Coxeter element in an affine Coxeter group the Hurwitz action on its set of reduced factorizations into a product of reflections is transitive. We call an element of the Coxeter group parabolic quasi-Coxeter element if it has a reduced factorization into a product of reflections that generate a parabolic subgroup.
Quasi-homogeneity of the moduli space of stable maps to homogeneous spaces
Let $G$ be a connected, simply connected, simple, complex, linear algebraic group. Let $P$ be an arbitrary parabolic subgroup of $G$. Let $X=G/P$ be the $G$-homogeneous projective space attached to this situation. Let $d\in H_2(X)$ be a degree. Let $\overline{M}_{0,3}(X,d)$ be the (coarse) moduli space of three pointed genus zero stable maps to $X$ of degree $d$. We prove under reasonable assumptions on $d$ that $\overline{M}_{0,3}(X,d)$ is quasi-homogeneous under the action of $G$.
The essential assumption on $d$ is that $d$ is a minimal degree, i.e. that $d$ is a degree which is minimal with the property that $q^d$ occurs with non-zero coefficient in the quantum product $σ_u\starσ_v$ of two Schubert cycles $σ_u$ and $σ_v$, where $\star$ denotes the product in the (small) quantum cohomology ring $QH^*(X)$ attached to $X$. We prove our main result on quasi-homogeneity by constructing an explicit morphism which has a dense open $G$-orbit in $\overline{M}_{0,3}(X,d)$. To carry out the construction of this morphism, we develop a combinatorial theory of generalized cascades of orthogonal roots which is interesting in its own right.
Parabolic Catalan numbers count flagged Schur functions; Convexity of tableau sets for Demazure characters
Shuffles are n-multipermutations with suit multiplicities given by a subset R of {1,..,n-1}. Their inverses are ordered partitions of {1,..,n} whose block sizes derive from R. These "R-permutations" depict the min length coset reps for the quotient of S_n by the parabolic subgroup W_J, with J the complement of R. We refer to those that blockwise avoid the pattern 312 as "312-avoiding R-permutations" and define the "parabolic R-Catalan number" to be the number of them. Let lambda be a partition of N with at most n parts whose set of shape column lengths less than n is R. We show that the number of flagged Schur functions formed on the shape of lambda is this parabolic R-Catalan number, and list over a dozen other phenomena that are enumerated by it. Let pi be an R-permutation. We view the Demazure character (key polynomial) indexed by (lambda,pi) as the sum of the content weight monomials for our "pi-Demazure" semistandard tableaux of shape lambda with entries from {1,..,n}. We show that the set of these tableaux is convex in Z^N if and only if pi is a 312-avoiding R-permutation. A flagged Schur function is the sum of the content weight monomials for the semistandard tableaux of shape lambda whose entries are row-wise bounded by a given weakly increasing n-tuple. We consider general row bound sums for which the bounds may be any n-tuple. Reiner and Shimozono and then Postnikov and Stanley obtained results concerning coincidences between flagged Schur functions and Demazure characters: when lambda is strict, the flagged Schur functions exactly coincide with the 312-avoiding Demazure characters. For general lambda we introduce precise indexing sets of n-tuple bounds for the row bound sums. This and our convexity results are used to sharpen their coincidence results, to extend them to general row bound sums, and to show they hold at the deeper level of coinciding underlying tableau sets.

Parabolic subgroups $W_I$ of Coxeter systems $(W,S)$, as well as their ordinary and double quotients $W / W_I$ and $W_I \backslash W / W_J$, appear in many contexts in combinatorics and Lie theory, including the geometry and topology of generalized flag varieties and the symmetry groups of regular polytopes. The set of ordinary cosets $w W_I$, for $I \subseteq S$, forms the Coxeter complex of $W$, and is well-studied. In this article we look at a less studied object: the set of all double cosets $W_I w W_J$ for $I, J \subseteq S$. Double coset are not uniquely presented by triples $(I,w,J)$. We describe what we call the lex-minimal presentation, and prove that there exists a unique such object for each double coset. Lex-minimal presentations are then used to enumerate double cosets via a finite automaton depending on the Coxeter graph for $(W,S)$. As an example, we present a formula for the number of parabolic double cosets with a fixed minimal element when $W$ is the symmetric group $S_n$ (in this case, parabolic subgroups are also known as Young subgroups). Our formula is almost always linear time computable in $n$, and we show how it can be generalized to any Coxeter group with little additional work. We spell out formulas for all finite and affine Weyl groups in the case that $w$ is the identity element.

Let $X$ be a nonempty real variety that is invariant under the action of a reflection group $G$. We conjecture that if $X$ is defined in terms of the first $k$ basic invariants of $G$ (ordered by degree), then $X$ meets a $k$-dimensional flat of the associated reflection arrangement. We prove this conjecture for the infinite types, reflection groups of rank at most $3$, and $F_4$ and we give computational evidence for $H_4$. This is a generalization of Timofte's degree principle to reflection groups. For general reflection groups, we compute nontrivial upper bounds on the minimal dimension of flats of the reflection arrangement meeting $X$ from the combinatorics of parabolic subgroups. We also give generalizations to real varieties invariant under Lie groups.

We provide a necessary and sufficient condition on an element of a finite Coxeter group to ensure the transitivity of the Hurwitz action on its set of reduced decompositions into products of reflections. We show that this action is transitive if and only if the element is a parabolic quasi-Coxeter element, that is, if and only if it has a reduced decomposition into a product of reflections that generate a parabolic subgroup.

Let $G$ denote a complex semisimple linear algebraic group, $P$ a parabolic subgroup of $G$ and $\mathcal{P}=G/P$. We identify the quantum multiplication by divisors in $T^*\mathcal{P}$ in terms of stable basis, which is introduced by Maulik and Okounkov. Using this and the restriction formula for stable basis, we show that the $G\times\mathbb{C}^*$-equivariant quantum multiplication formula in $T^*\mathcal{P}$ is conjugate to the conjectured formula by Braverman.

Parabolic $R$-polynomials were introduced by Deodhar as parabolic analogues of ordinary $R$-polynomials defined by Kazhdan and Lusztig. In this paper, we are concerned with the computation of parabolic $R$-polynomials for the symmetric group. Let $S_n$ be the symmetric group on $\{1,2,\ldots,n\}$, and let $S=\{s_i\,|\, 1\leq i\leq n-1\}$ be the generating set of $S_n$, where for $1\leq i\leq n-1$, $s_i$ is the adjacent transposition. For a subset $J\subseteq S$, let $(S_n)_J$ be the parabolic subgroup generated by $J$, and let $(S_n)^{J}$ be the set of minimal coset representatives for $S_n/(S_n)_J$. For $u\leq v\in (S_n)^J$ in the Bruhat order and $x\in \{q,-1\}$, let $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$ denote the parabolic $R$-polynomial indexed by $u$ and $v$. Brenti found a formula for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$ when $J=S\setminus\{s_i\}$, and obtained an expression for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$ when $J=S\setminus\{s_{i-1},s_i\}$. We introduce a statistic on pairs of permutations in $(S_n)^J$ for $J=S\setminus\{s_{i-2},s_{i-1},s_i\}$. Then we give a formula for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$, where $J=S\setminus\{s_{i-2},s_{i-1},s_i\}$ and $i$ appears after $i-1$ in $v$. We also pose a conjecture for $R_{u,v}^{J,x}(q)$, where $J=S\setminus\{s_{k},s_{k+1},\ldots,s_i\}$ with $1\leq k\leq i\leq n-1$ and the elements $k+1,k+2,\ldots, i$ appear in increasing order in $v$.
Variations of the Poincaré series for affine Weyl groups and q-analogues of Chebyshev polynomials

Let $(W,S)$ be a Coxeter system and write $P_W(q)$ for its Poincaré series. Lusztig has shown that the quotient $P_W(q^2)/P_W(q)$ is equal to a certain power series $L_{W}(q)$, defined by specializing one variable in the generating function recording the lengths and absolute lengths of the involutions in $W$. The simplest inductive method of proving this result for finite Coxeter groups suggests a natural bivariate generalization $L^J_W(s,q) \in \mathbb{Z}[[s,q]]$ depending on a subset $J\subset S$. This new power series specializes to $L_W(q)$ when $s=-1$ and is given explicitly by a sum of rational functions over the involutions which are minimal length representatives of the double cosets of the parabolic subgroup $W_J$ in $W$. When $ W$ is an affine Weyl group, we consider the renormalized power series $T_{ W}(s,q) = L^J_W(s,q) / L_W(q)$ with $J$ given by the generating set of the corresponding finite Weyl group. We show that when $W$ is an affine Weyl group of type $A$, the power series $T_W(s,q)$ is actually a polynomial in $s$ and $q$ with nonnegative coefficients, which turns out to be a $q$-analogue recently studied by Cigler of the Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind, arising in a completely different context.
Bar operators for quasiparabolic conjugacy classes in a Coxeter group

The action of a Coxeter group $W$ on the set of left cosets of a standard parabolic subgroup deforms to define a module $\mathcal{M}^J$ of the group's Iwahori-Hecke algebra $\mathcal{H}$ with a particularly simple form. Rains and Vazirani have introduced the notion of a quasiparabolic set to characterize $W$-sets for which analogous deformations exist; a motivating example is the conjugacy class of fixed point free involutions in the symmetric group. Deodhar has shown that the module $\mathcal{M}^J$ possesses a certain antilinear involution, called the bar operator, and a certain basis invariant under this involution, which generalizes the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of $\mathcal{H}$. The well-known significance of this basis in representation theory makes it natural to seek to extend Deodhar's results to the quasiparabolic setting. In general, the obstruction to finding such an extension is the existence of an appropriate quasiparabolic analogue of the "bar operator." In this paper, we consider the most natural definition of a quasiparabolic bar operator, and develop a theory of "quasiparabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig bases" under the hypothesis that such a bar operator exists. Giving content to this theory, we prove that a bar operator in the desired sense does exist for quasiparabolic $W$-sets given by twisted conjugacy classes of twisted involutions. Finally, we prove several results classifying the quasiparabolic conjugacy classes in a Coxeter group.

In this note, we provide a short and self-contained proof that the braid group on n strands acts transitively on the set of reduced factorizations of a Coxeter element in a Coxeter group of finite rank n into products of reflections. We moreover use the same argument to also show that all factorizations of an element in a parabolic subgroup of W lie as well in this parabolic subgroup.

We give a complete classification of the reductive symmetric pairs (G,H) for which the homogeneous space $(G \times H)/diag(H)$ is real spherical in the sense that a minimal parabolic subgroup has an open orbit.
Combining with a criterion established in [T. Kobayashi--T. Oshima, Adv. Math. 2013], we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a reductive symmetric pair $(G,H)$ such that the multiplicities for the branching law of the restriction any admissible smooth representation of $G$ to $H$ have finiteness/boundedness property.

Let G be a classical complex Lie group, P any parabolic subgroup of G, and X = G/P the corresponding homogeneous space, which parametrizes (isotropic) partial flags of subspaces of a fixed vector space. In the mid 1990s, Fulton, Pragacz, and Ratajski asked for global formulas which express the cohomology classes of the universal Schubert varieties in flag bundles -- when the space X varies in an algebraic family -- in terms of the Chern classes of the vector bundles involved in their definition. This has applications to the theory of degeneracy loci of vector bundles and is closely related to the Giambelli problem for the torus-equivariant cohomology ring of X. In this article, we explain the answer to these questions which was obtained in arXiv:0908.3628, in terms of combinatorial data coming from the Weyl group.

In this paper we study general highest weight modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$ over a complex finite-dimensional semisimple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. We present three formulas for the set of weights of a large family of modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$, which include but are not restricted to all simple modules and all parabolic Verma modules. These formulas are direct and do not involve cancellations, and were not previously known in the literature. Our results extend the notion of the Weyl polytope to general highest weight $\mathfrak{g}$-modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$.
We also show that for all simple modules, the convex hull of the weights is a $W_J$-invariant polyhedron for some parabolic subgroup $W_J$. We compute its vertices, faces, and symmetries - more generally, we also do this for all parabolic Verma modules, and for all modules $\mathbb{V}^λ$ with highest weight $λ$ not on a simple root hyperplane. To show our results, we extend the notion of convexity to arbitrary additive subgroups $\mathbb{A} \subset (\mathbb{R},+)$ of coefficients. Our techniques enable us to completely classify "weak $\mathbb{A}$-faces" of the support sets ${\rm wt}(\mathbb{V}^λ)$, in the process extending classical results of Satake, Borel-Tits, Vinberg, and Casselman, as well as modern variants by Chari-Dolbin-Ridenour and Cellini-Marietti, to general highest weight modules.

We study a family of infinite-type Coxeter groups defined by the avoidance of certain rank 3 parabolic subgroups. For this family, rationally smooth elements can be detected by looking at only a few coefficients of the Poincaré polynomial. We also prove a factorization theorem for the Poincaré polynomial of rationally smooth elements. As an application, we show that a large class of infinite-type Coxeter groups have only finitely many rationally smooth elements. Explicit enumerations and descriptions of these elements are given in special cases.

We give an easy diagrammatical description of the parabolic Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for the Weyl group $W_n$ of type $D_n$ with parabolic subgroup of type $A_n$ and consequently an explicit counting formula for the dimension of the morphism spaces between indecomposable projective objects in the corresponding category $Ø_0^\p$. As a byproduct we categorify irreducible $W_n$-modules corresponding to pairs of one-line partitions. Finally we indicate the motivation for introducing the combinatorics by connections to Springer theory, the category of perverse sheaves on isotropic Grassmannians and to Brauer algebras which will be treated in \cite{ES}.
Spectra of Symmetrized Shuffling Operators
(Abridged abstract) For a finite real reflection group W and a W-orbit O of flats in its reflection arrangement---or equivalently a conjugacy class of its parabolic subgroups---we introduce a statistic on elements of W. We then study the operator of right-multiplication within the group algebra of W by the element whose coefficients are given by this statistic.
We reinterpret the operators geometrically in terms of the arrangement of reflecting hyperplanes for W. We show that they are self-adjoint and positive semidefinite. via two explicit factorizations into a symmetrized form A^t A. In one such factorization, A is a generalization of the projection of a simplex onto the linear ordering polytope. In the other factorization, A is the transition matrix for one of the well-studied Bidigare-Hanlon-Rockmore random walks on the chambers of an arrangement.
We study the family of operators in which O is the conjugacy classes of Young subgroups of type (k,1^{n-k}). A special case within this family is the operator corresponding to random-to-random shuffling. We show in a purely enumerative fashion that these operators pairwise commute. We furthermore conjecture that they have integer spectrum, generalizing a conjecture of Uyemura-Reyes for the case k=n-1.
We use representation theory to show that if O is a conjugacy class of rank one parabolics in W, the corresponding operator has integer spectrum. Our proof makes use of an (apparently) new family of twisted Gelfand pairs for W.
We also study the family of operators in which O is the conjugacy classes of Young subgroups of type (2^k,1^{n-2k}). Here the construction of a Gelfand model for the symmetric group shows that these operators pairwise commute and that they have integer spectrum.
For the symmetric group, we conjecture that apart from the two commuting families above, no other pair of operators of this form commutes.
