Kronecker coefficients via the Giambelli identity for Schur functions
One of the central open problems in both algebraic combinatorics and representation theory is to find a positive combinatorial rule for Kronecker coefficients $ g_{λ\, μ\, ν}$. A notable advance in this direction is due to Blasiak, who proved a combinatorial interpretation in terms of colored Yamanouchi tableaux for the case whereby one of the indexing partitions is hook-shaped. In this paper, we introduce a framework for the evaluation and combinatorial interpretation of Kronecker coefficients, combining a Schur function identity of Littlewood, the Giambelli identity for Schur functions, and Blasiak's combinatorial rule. This framework reduces the study of Kronecker coefficients to alternating sums involving hook-indexed cases. As an application of this framework, we obtain combinatorial interpretations of $g_{t, h^{(1)}, h^{(2)}}$ for two-row partitions $t$ and hook-like partitions $h^{(1)}$ and $h^{(2)}$ satisfying natural conditions. More broadly, our approach provides a systematic method for extending hook-based combinatorial rules to wider families of Kronecker coefficients.
On closed Ramsey numbers of small countable ordinals
This paper is a contribution to the investigation of closed partition relations for pairs of countable ordinals. As our main result, we prove that \[ω^4 \cdot (n-2)+1 < R^{cl}(ω\cdot n+1,3)<ω^5\] for every integer $n \geq 3$. This result significantly improves the existing upper and lower bounds for these closed Ramsey numbers. In addition, we prove that \[ω^θ\nrightarrow_{cl} (ω^α,3)^2\] whenever $1 \leq α\leq θ<ω_1$ satisfy $θ< R(α,3)$. This result asymptotically improves the existing lower bounds for $R^{cl}(ω^n,3)$ and slightly strengthens the existing necessary condition for being a topological partition ordinal.

Tetrahedral $L$-operators, tensor Schur polynomials and $q$-deformed loop elementary symmetric functions
We study three-dimensional partition functions constructed from the tetrahedral $L$-operator introduced and studied by Bazhanov-Sergeev and Kuniba-Maruyama-Okado. First, we explore the $q=0$ case, extending the authors' previous results and giving applications by a further analysis on the Zamolodchikov-Faddeev algebra. We introduce a class of partition functions which can be expressed as the tensor Schur polynomials, a class of products of Schur polynomials. As an application, we derive the shuffle formula for the Schur polynomials which is geometrically the pushforward formula by Joźefiak-Pragacz-Lascoux. We also give a derivation and a unification of the Gustafson-Milne and Feh{é}r--N{é}methi--Rim{á}nyi identities, and introduce a family of Laurent polynomials using divided difference operators which imitates the Schubert polynomials from the perspective of our study. We also present an application to the steady state of the multispecies totally asymmetric simple exclusion process. Second, we investigate several classes of partition functions for the generic $q$ case, and determine the explicit forms as deformations of the elementary symmetric functions. One of them can be regarded as (an extension of) a $q$-deformed loop elementary symmetric functions.

Tight constructions for reconfigurations of independent transversals
For a graph $G$ and partition $\mathcal{U}$ of its vertex set, an independent transversal of $(G, \mathcal{U})$ is an independent set of $G$ that contains one vertex from each block of $\mathcal{U}$. Buys, Kang, and Ozeki studied when a reconfiguration graph on independent transversals of $(G,\mathcal{U})$ is connected, meaning any independent transversal can be transformed into any other one through a sequence of one-vertex modifications while always maintaining an independent transversal. Analogous to a theorem of Haxell, they proved that this is the case if $G$ has maximum degree $Δ$ and each block of $\mathcal{U}$ has size at least $2Δ$, except if the union of some $k \ge 1$ blocks of $\mathcal{U}$ induces $k$ disjoint copies of the complete bipartite graph $K_{Δ, Δ}$ in $G$. Solving one of their problems, we exactly characterize the partition structure in the latter exceptional instances of their theorem, showing that there is a rich variety of them but they are generated by a simple constructive procedure.

A construction of the hat tilings by a Markov partition
We present a simple construction of hat tilings. The construction can be carried out by superimposing a triangular grid on a specially colored image and reading off the orientation of the tiles. We show that our construction produces valid hat tilings, and conversely, in an appropriate sense that is made precise in the paper, that every valid hat tiling can be obtained in this way.
Monochromatic Sums and Quotients Near Zero
Recently S. Goswami proved that whenever the set $\mathbb N$ of natural numbers is finitely colored, the set $\{a, b, ab, b(a+1)\}$ is monochromatic which also established a variant of the long-standing Hindman's conjecture, which asks for a monochromatic set of the form $\{a, b, ab, a+b\}$. Actually he disproved a conjecture proposed by J. Sahasrabudhe that $\{a, b, a(b + 1)\}$ is not partition regular. In this paper we prove that $\{a, b, ab, b(a+1)\}$ is monochromatic near zero which means for every finite coloring of a dense subsemigroups of $((0, \infty), +)$, the set $\{a, b, ab, b(a+1)\}$ is monochromatic near zero or in other words, we will get $a, b$ in a dense subsemigroups of $((0, \infty), +)$ as small as we want such that the set $\{a, b, ab, b(a+1)\}$ is monochromatic for every finite coloring of that dense subsemigroups of $((0, \infty), +)$, also we show that the pattern $x, y, x+y, \frac{y}{x}$ is partition regular near zero.

Mahonian statistics on words with fixed weak right-to-left minima and on permutations with a fixed descent set
Our first main result shows that, for words with a fixed multiset of weak right-to-left minima, the statistics within each of the following three classes are equidistributed: 1. Our second main result shows that, for permutations with a fixed descent set, the statistics within each of the following two classes are equidistributed: 1. Mahonian statistics: $\textsf{inv}$, $\textsf{imaj}$, $\textsf{imak}$, $\textsf{iinv}_{r}$, and $\textsf{istat}$; 2. Mahonian--Stirling-type statistics: $(\textsf{inv},\textsf{lrmax})$, $(\textsf{imaj},\textsf{lrmax})$, $(\textsf{imak},\textsf{lrmax})$, and $(\textsf{iinv}_{r},\textsf{lrmax})$. Moreover, we apply these results to set partitions, 221-avoiding words, alternating permutations, and permutations with $k$ alternating runs, thereby obtaining several families of equidistributed Mahonian-type statistics on these combinatorial structures.

Local Depth-Based Corrections to Maxmin Landmark Selection for Lazy Witness Persistence
We study a family of local depth-based corrections to maxmin landmark selection for lazy witness persistence. Starting from maxmin seeds, we partition the cloud into nearest-seed cells and replace or move each seed toward a deep representative of its cell. The principal implemented variant, \emph{support-weighted partial recentering}, scales the amount of movement by cell support. The contributions are both mathematical and algorithmic. On the mathematical side, we prove local geometric guarantees for these corrections: a convex-core robustness lemma derived from halfspace depth, a $2r$ cover bound for subset recentering, and projected cover bounds for the implemented partial-recentering rules. On the algorithmic side, we identify a practically effective variant through a layered empirical study consisting of planar synthetic benchmarks, a parameter-sensitivity study, and an MPEG-7 silhouette benchmark, together with a modest three-dimensional torus extension. The main planar experiments show that support-weighted partial recentering gives a consistent geometric improvement over maxmin while preserving the thresholded $H_1$ summary used in the study. The three-dimensional experiment shows the same geometric tendency but only mixed topological behavior. The paper should therefore be read as a controlled study of a local depth-based alternative to maxmin, rather than as a global witness-approximation theorem or a claim of uniform empirical superiority.

Kazhdan-Lusztig Basis and Optimization
We describe a conjectural approach to obtaining canonical bases of the Hecke algebra at $q=1$ via continuous quadratic optimization. We focus on Specht modules $S^λ$ and proper cones inside $S^λ$ that are invariant under the action of $1+s$ for all simple reflections $s\in S$. We show that there are unique minimal and maximal cones invariant under all $1+s$. For hook shapes, two-column shapes, and partitions of the form $(n-2,2)$, we prove that the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis spans this maximal cone. More generally, we define an optimization problem over bases that are unitriangular with respect to the polytabloid basis, subject to the constraint that the operators $1+s$ act non-negatively. We prove that the feasible region forms a compact semialgebraic set, and interpret it in terms of a hierarchy of invariant cones under all $1+s$. We demonstrate that minimizing the trace of the Gram matrix uniquely recovers Young's seminormal basis. Furthermore, we verify computationally that maximization uniquely recovers the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis for all partitions of $n\leq 7$. In higher ranks, the optimization detects deviations from the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis and may favour other natural positive bases, such as the Springer basis or $p$-canonical bases. Finally, we extend this framework to irreducible representations of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$. We observe that the Gelfand--Tsetlin basis corresponds to the unique minimizer, and we conjecture that the canonical basis corresponds to the maximum in small ranks.

An elementary proof of Sierksma's conjecture for seven points in the plane
We give a new simple geometric proof that any seven points in the plane have four Tverberg partitions into three sets. This is the only confirmed non-trivial case of Sierksma's conjecture. Earlier proofs, by Stephan Hell, relied on topological arguments.

Elementary symmetric polynomials and a potentially injective family of maps on partitions
In this article, we provide an infinite family of examples to disprove a recent conjecture due to Ballantine and her collaborators on the injectivity of a class of maps, namely pre_k, defined on integer partitions. These maps arise from applying the sequence of elementary symmetric polynomials to integer partitions, where pre_k is associated with the kth polynomial. Subsequently, we state a modified version of their conjecture. Throwing fresh light on these class of maps, we study the inter-relationships between them, deviating from the approaches so far, which study these maps one at a time. Though one case of the conjecture (k=2) has now been settled independently by the work of Ballantine and collaborators, and Li, we provide alternate proofs of three subcases corresponding to this settled case. We also discuss lower bounds for the number of partitions of n which are in the image of the map pre_2.

The $n$-Point Function of $t$-Core Partitions and Topological Vertex
In this paper, we study the $n$-point function of $t$-core partitions. The main tool is the topological vertex, originally developed to study the topological string theory for toric Calabi--Yau 3-folds. By virtue of the topological vertex, we introduce the $q$-deformed $n$-point function that generalizes both the ordinary $n$-point function of all integer partitions studied by Bloch--Okounkov and $t$-core partition case treated here. As a consequence, we provide a closed formula for the $n$-point function of $t$-core partitions in terms of theta functions, and prove that the corresponding correlation functions are quasimodular forms.

Noncrossing Partitions From Hull Configurations
Each finite configuration of points in the plane determines a corresponding lattice of noncrossing partitions. When these points form the vertex set of a convex polygon, the associated lattice is the classical noncrossing partition lattice (introduced by Kreweras in 1972), which makes many appearances in combinatorics and geometric group theory. If, on the other hand, all points of the configuration lie on a common line segment, the result is a Boolean lattice. In this article, we examine the more general class of hull configurations, which we define to be those which lie either on a line segment or on the boundary of a convex polygon. We prove that the corresponding lattices of noncrossing partitions are unions of maximal Boolean subposets and, under certain circumstances, have symmetric chain decompositions.
Noncrossing Partitions From Cones and Semicircles
Published in Discrete Mathematics (2026) 349-2 • View PublicationBIB
For each finite configuration of distinct points in the plane, there is an associated lattice of noncrossing partitions. When these points form the vertices of a convex polygon, the result is the classical noncrossing partition lattice, which is enumerated by the Catalan numbers and satisfies many other useful properties. In this article, we examine three variations of this lattice which arise when the starting configuration is allowed to have points on the sides of a convex polygon rather than just the vertex set.

On additive averaging kernels for finite Markov chains
We study additive mixtures of Markov kernels of the form $A_α= αP + (1-α)G$, where $α\in [0,1]$, $P$ is a baseline sampler and $G$ is a Gibbs kernel induced by a partition of the state space. We first motivate the study of $A_α$, which can be interpreted as the projection of a lifted Markov chain. We then consider the minimisation of distance to stationarity under two objectives: the squared Frobenius norm and the Kullback-Leibler (KL) divergence. For the Frobenius objective, we derive explicit trace formulas and identify a Cheeger-type functional that characterises optimal two-block partitions. This yields a structured combinatorial optimisation problem admitting a difference-of-submodular decomposition, enabling efficient approximation via majorisation-minimisation. We also obtain geometric decay rates governed by the absolute spectral gap of $P$. For the KL divergence, we establish convexity-based bounds showing that the divergence of $A_α$ is controlled by those of both $P$ and $G$, thereby reducing partition selection to the Gibbs component. Numerical experiments on the Curie-Weiss model demonstrate that suitable choice of both the partition and the parameter $α$ can significantly accelerate convergence in total variation distance. We observe a consistent trade-off between local exploration and global averaging, with intermediate values of $α$ achieving the best performance across regimes.
On the number of missing integers in partitions
In the preceding decade, Andrews and Newman resurrected the concept of a `minimal excludant' of a partition ($mex$, for short), namely, the least positive missing integer in a partition. Subsequently, several authors have not only studied its generalizations, analogues and the like but also connected the mex to several important partition statistics. In the present paper, we study the set of missing positive integers as a whole, in two different classes of partitions, namely, unrestricted partitions and overpartitions. To be precise, a $missing \ integer$ is a positive integer that is less than the largest part of a partition and which does not occur as a part. In particular, we examine the number of partitions with a given number of missing integers, determine congruences for two pairs of functions associated to them, and propose three bias type inequality conjectures for these functions.

Reconstructing a graph from its Bell colouring graph
The Bell colouring graph $\mathcal{B}(G)$ of a graph $G$ is the graph whose vertices are the partitions of the vertex set of $G$ into independent sets, with an edge between two partitions if and only if one can be obtained from the other by changing the part of a single vertex of $G$. Given a natural number $k$, the Bell $k$-colouring graph $\mathcal{B}_k(G)$ and the upper-Bell $k$-colouring graph $\mathcal{B}_{\geq k}(G)$ are the induced subgraphs of $\mathcal{B}(G)$ consisting of all partitions with at most $k$ parts and at least $k$ parts, respectively. We determine precisely when two finite graphs have isomorphic Bell colouring graphs. In particular, we show that every $n$-vertex graph $G$ with no vertices of degree $n-1$ is uniquely determined by its Bell colouring graph $\mathcal{B}(G)$, and by its upper-Bell colouring graph $\mathcal{B}_{\geq k}(G)$ if $k\leq n-2$. We also show that every $n$-vertex graph with maximum degree $Δ(G)< \frac{1}{9}n-\frac{1}{3}$ is uniquely determined by its Bell $k$-colouring graph $\mathcal{B}_k(G)$ if $k>χ(G)$. By taking graph complements, each of these results can be restated in terms of partitions into cliques.

Base Modulus for Matroid Truncation, Strength, and Fractional Arboricity
In [27], we provided results on the $p$-modulus of the family of all bases of matroids and showed that it recovers various concepts in matroid theory, including strength, fractional arboricity, and principal partitions. In particular, the unique optimal density $η^*$ that arises for $p$-modulus, which we will refer to as universal density from now on, was shown to recover the concept of lexicographical base in polymatroids. Since truncation is a fundamental operation in matroid theory, it is natural to ask how the universal density behaves under matroid truncation. In this paper, we first provide the universal density of every truncation of a given matroid; equivalently, we determine the principal partition for every matroid truncation. Next, we give a new characterization of the universal density using the Kullback--Leibler divergence. Furthermore, we study the notion of strictly homogeneous matroids, generalizing the corresponding notion in graphs from [6]. We also offer several insights related to strength, fractional arboricity, and give the set of probability mass functions (pmfs) for bases that induce the universal density in a simple case. Finally, this paper also addresses two optimization problems for graph structures, particularly those involving edge-disjoint spanning trees and forest edge-coverings.

Support and Support Jumps in the Partition Graph
Let $G_n$ be the partition graph whose vertices are the partitions of $n$, with adjacency given by elementary transfers of one cell between parts, followed by reordering. We study the support of a partition -- the set of distinct part sizes -- as a global vertex invariant of $G_n$. We show that support size $r$ occurs in $G_n$ if and only if $T_r=r(r+1)/2\le n$, so the maximal support size is $ρ(n)=\max\{r:T_r\le n\}$. We determine exactly how support changes along an edge: the support jump always lies in $\{-2,-1,0,1,2\}$, and we give an explicit birth-death formula in terms of the source and target part sizes. We also prove the degree bound $°(λ)\ge σ(λ)(σ(λ)-1)$ for every partition $λ$, with equality exactly for staircase partitions. In addition, support size is invariant under conjugation, the support-$1$ stratum consists exactly of rectangular partitions, and the coarse support-level graph always contains the chain $1-2-\cdots-ρ(n)$. We conclude with computational data for small $n$, including support-stratum counts, support-jump counts, and connectivity data for fixed-support subgraphs.

A Strict Gap Between Relaxed and Partition-Constrained Spectral Compression in a Six-State Lumpable Markov Chain
This paper studies a finite reversible lumpable Markov chain for which relaxed spectral compression yields a larger determinant than partition-constrained compression. For a symmetric six-state lumpable chain and the positive operator $T=P^2$, I compare the relaxed benchmark \begin{equation*} \mathfrak D^{\mathrm{rel}}_3(T):=\sup_{U^*U=I_3}\det(U^*TU) \end{equation*} and the partition-constrained benchmark \begin{equation*} \sup_{\mathcal A\,\mathrm{3\text{-}partition}}\det Q_{\mathcal A}(T), \qquad Q_{\mathcal A}(T)=H_{\mathcal A}^*TH_{\mathcal A}. \end{equation*} Here the partition-constrained benchmark is the compression induced by normalized indicator vectors of genuine partitions of the state space. I derive closed formulas for the two analytically central partition families, prove strict upper bounds for both in a local-mode-dominated regime, and combine these bounds with an exhaustive enumeration of all $90$ partitions into three nonempty cells in an explicit six-state model. For this model, one obtains a strict global gap: \begin{equation*} \sup_{\mathcal A}\det Q_{\mathcal A}(T)<\mathfrak D^{\mathrm{rel}}_3(T). \end{equation*} Thus, in this model, indicator-based partition frames are strictly weaker than relaxed orthonormal frames even after global partition-constrained optimization.
