In this paper, we present a $q$-analogue of the polynomial reduction which was originally developed for hypergeometric terms. Using the $q$-Gosper representation, we describe the structure of rational functions that are summable when multiplied with a given $q$-hypergeometric term. The structure theorem enables us to generalize the $q$-polynomial reduction to the rational case, which can be used in the automatic proof and discovery of $q$-identities. As applications, several $q$-analogues of series for $π$ are presented.

Let $T$ be a $k$-tree equipped with a weighting function $\w: V(T)\cup E(T)\rightarrow \C$, where $k \geq 3$. The weighted matching polynomial of the weighted $k$-tree $(T,\w)$ is defined to be $$ μ(T,\w,x)= \sum_{M \in \mathcal{M}(T)}(-1)^{|M|}\prod_{e \in E(M)}\mathbf{w}(e)^k \prod_{v \in V(T)\backslash V(M)}(x-\w(v)), $$ where $\mathcal{M}(T)$ denotes the set of matchings (including empty set) of $T$. In this paper, we investigate the eigenvalues of the adjacency tensor $\A(T,\w)$ of the weighted $k$-tree $(T,\w)$. The main result provides that $\w(v)$ is an eigenvalue of $\A(T,\w)$ for every $v\in V(T)$, and if $λ\neq \w(v)$ for every $v\in V(T)$, then $λ$ is an eigenvalue of $\A(T,\w)$ if and only if there exists a subtree $T'$ of $T$ such that $λ$ is a root of $μ(T',\w,x)$. Moreover, the spectral radius of $\A(T,\w)$ is equal to the largest root of $μ(T,\w,x)$ when $\w$ is real and nonnegative. The result extends a work by Clark and Cooper ({\em On the adjacency spectra of hypertrees, Electron. J. Combin., 25 (2)(2018) $\#$P2.48}) to weighted $k$-trees. As applications, two analogues of the above work for the Laplacian and the signless Laplacian tensors of $k$-trees are obtained.
On $d$-stable locally checkable problems parameterized by mim-width

In this paper we continue the study of locally checkable problems under the framework introduced by Bonomo-Braberman and Gonzalez in 2020, by focusing on graphs of bounded mim-width. We study which restrictions on a locally checkable problem are necessary in order to be able to solve it efficiently on graphs of bounded mim-width. To this end, we introduce the concept of $d$-stability of a check function. The related locally checkable problems contain large classes of problems, among which we can mention, for example, LCVP problems. We give an algorithm showing that these problems are XP when parameterized by the mim-width of a given binary decomposition tree of the input graph, that is, that they can be solved in polynomial time given a binary decomposition tree of bounded mim-width. We explore the relation between $d$-stable locally checkable problems and the recently introduced DN logic (Bergougnoux, Dreier and Jaffke, 2022), and show that both frameworks model the same family of problems. We include a list of concrete examples of $d$-stable locally checkable problems whose complexity on graphs of bounded mim-width was open so far.

We present a formula for a generalisation of the Eulerian polynomial, namely the generating polynomial of the joint distribution of major index and descent statistic over the set of signed multiset permutations. It has a description in terms of the $h^*$-polynomial of a certain polytope. Moreover, we associate a family of polytopes to (generalised) Eulerian polynomials of types $\mathsf{A}$ and $\mathsf{B}$. Using this connection, properties of the generalised Eulerian numbers of types $\mathsf{A}$ and $\mathsf{B}$, such as palindromicity and unimodality, are reflected in certain properties of the associated polytope. We also present results on generalising the connection between descent polynomials and polytopes to coloured (multiset) permutations.
Principal Specialization of Monomial Symmetric Polynomials and Group Determinants of Cyclic Groups
In this paper, we consider the principal specialization of monomial symmetric polynomials and investigate the special values of these polynomials at the point $$ ζ_{(n,k)} := ( 1, ζ_n, ζ_n^2, \dots, ζ_n^{kn-1} ), $$ where \(ζ_n\) is a primitive \(n\)th root of unity. We give explicit formulas for several special values. Also, we show that these special values naturally appear as the coefficients in the expansion of the $k$th power of the circulant determinant of order $n$ (the group determinant of the cyclic group of order $n$). These results extend Ore's results for $k = 1$. Furthermore, we determine the number of terms in the $k$th power of the group permanent of the cyclic group of order $n$. This extends Brualdi and Newman's result for $k = 1$.
On the classification of low-degree ovoids of Q(4,q)

Ovoids of the non-degenerate quadric Q(4,q) of PG(4,q) have been studied since the end of the '80s. They are rare objects and, beside the classical example given by an elliptic quadric, only three classes are known for q odd, one class for $q$ even, and a sporadic example for $ìq=3^5. It is well known that to any ovoid of Q(4,q) a bivariate polynomial f(x,y) can be associated. In this paper we classify ovoids of Q(4,q) whose corresponding polynomial f(x,y) has 'low degree' compared with q, in particular deg(f)<(q/6.3)^(3/13)-1. Finally, as an application, {two classes} of permutation polynomials in characteristic 3 are obtained.
Integrality in the Matching-Jack conjecture and the Farahat-Higman algebra

Using Jack polynomials, Goulden and Jackson have introduced a one parameter deformation $τ_b$ of the generating series of bipartite maps, which generalizes the partition function of $β$-ensembles of random matrices. The Matching-Jack conjecture suggests that the coefficients $c^λ_{μ,ν}$ of the function $τ_b$ in the power-sum basis are non-negative integer polynomials in the deformation parameter $b$. Dołęga and Féray have proved in 2016 the "polynomiality" part in the Matching-Jack conjecture, namely that coefficients $c^λ_{μ,ν}$ are in $\mathbb{Q}[b]$. In this paper, we prove the "integrality" part, i.e that the coefficients $c^λ_{μ,ν}$ are in $\mathbb{Z}[b]$.
The proof is based on a recent work of the author that deduces the Matching-Jack conjecture for marginal sums from an analog result for the $b$-conjecture, established in 2020 by Chapuy and Dołęga. A key step in the proof involves a new connection with the graded Farahat-Higman algebra.
Matroid schemes and geometric posets
The intersection data of a hyperplane arrangement is described by a geometric lattice, or equivalently a simple matroid. There is a rich interplay between this combinatorial structure and the topology of the arrangement complement. In this paper, we characterize the combinatorial structure underlying an abelian arrangement (such as a toric or elliptic arrangement) by defining a class of geometric posets and a generalization of matroids called matroid schemes. The intersection data of an abelian arrangement is encoded in a geometric poset, and we prove that a geometric poset is equivalent to a simple matroid scheme. We lay foundations for the theory of matroid schemes, discussing rank, flats, and independence. We also extend the definition of the Tutte polynomial to this setting and prove that it satisfies a deletion-contraction recurrence.

A well-known representation-theoretic model for the transformed Macdonald polynomial $\widetilde{H}_μ(Z;t,q)$, where $μ$ is an integer partition, is given by the Garsia-Haiman module $\mathcal{H}_μ$. We study the $\frac{n!}{k}$ conjecture of Bergeron and Garsia, which concerns the behavior of certain $k$-tuples of Garsia-Haiman modules under intersection. In the special case that $μ$ has hook shape, we use a basis for $\mathcal{H}_μ$ due to Adin, Remmel, and Roichman to resolve the $\frac{n!}{2}$ conjecture by constructing an explicit basis for the intersection of two Garsia-Haiman modules.
On the Linear Components Space of S-boxes Generated by Orthogonal Cellular Automata

We investigate S-boxes defined by pairs of Orthogonal Cellular Automata (OCA), motivated by the fact that such CA always define bijective vectorial Boolean functions, and could thus be interesting for the design of block ciphers. In particular, we perform an exhaustive search of all nonlinear OCA pairs of diameter $d=4$ and $d=5$, which generate S-boxes of size $6\times 6$ and $8\times 8$, respectively. Surprisingly, all these S-boxes turn out to be linear, and thus they are not useful for the design of confusion layers in block ciphers. However, a closer inspection of these S-boxes reveals a very interesting structure. Indeed, we remark that the linear components space of the OCA-based S-boxes found by our exhaustive search are themselves the kernels of linear CA, or, equivalently, \emph{polynomial codes}. We finally classify the polynomial codes of the S-boxes obtained in our exhaustive search and observe that, in most cases, they actually correspond to the cyclic code with generator polynomial $X^{b}+1$, where $b=d-1$. Although these findings rule out the possibility of using OCA to design good S-boxes in block ciphers, they give nonetheless some interesting insights for a theoretical characterization of nonlinear OCA pairs, which is still an open question in general.

In this paper, we introduce the concept of the weighted (harmonic) chromatic polynomials of graphs and discuss some of its properties. We also present the notion of the weighted (harmonic) Tutte--Grothendieck polynomials of graphs and give a generalization of the recipe theorem between the harmonic Tutte--Grothendieck polynomials graphs and the harmonic Tutte polynomials of matroids. Moreover, we give some constructions of the weighted (harmonic) Tutte--Grothendieck invariants for graphs and the weighted (harmonic) Tutte invariants for matroids. Finally, we give a remark on the categorification of the harmonic chromatic polynomials of graphs and harmonic Tutte polynomials of matroids.
A GL-Equivariant Complex Inducing Character Identities for Schur Modules
In this paper we construct a GL-equivariant complex of Schur modules over a ring of positive characteristic that can be used to deduce classical alternating sum identities for Schur polynomials. This complex globalizes to a complex of vector bundles and can also be used to give an explicit construction of an exact sequence predicted by work of Grayson involving Adams operations identities on the algebraic K-theory of a given scheme $X$. The more general complex gives an explicit construction that reproves the aforementioned Adams operations identities in full generality.
A characteristic polynomial of the Seidel matrix over $\mathbb{F}_3$
In this paper, we consider the condition when the characteristic polynomials of the Seidel matrix of the graphs are decomposed into products of linear polynomials over $\mathbb{F}_3$. We also show the equality over $\mathbb{F}_3$ between the characteristic polynomial of the Seidel matrix of a graph and the characteristic polynomial of the adjacency matrix of that graph.

A $k$-path vertex cover ($k$-PVC) of a graph $G$ is a vertex subset $I$ such that each path on $k$ vertices in $G$ contains at least one member of $I$. Imagine that a token is placed on each vertex of a $k$-PVC. Given two $k$-PVCs $I, J$ of a graph $G$, the $k$-Path Vertex Cover Reconfiguration ($k$-PVCR) under Token Sliding ($\mathsf{TS}$) problem asks if there is a sequence of $k$-PVCs between $I$ and $J$ where each intermediate member is obtained from its predecessor by sliding a token from some vertex to one of its unoccupied neighbors. This problem is known to be $\mathtt{PSPACE}$-complete even for planar graphs of maximum degree $3$ and bounded treewidth and can be solved in polynomial time for paths and cycles. Its complexity for trees remains unknown. In this paper, as a first step toward answering this question, for $k \geq 4$, we present a polynomial-time algorithm that solves $k$-PVCR under $\mathsf{TS}$ for caterpillars (i.e., trees formed by attaching leaves to a path).
Simplicial chromatic polynomials as Hilbert series of Stanley--Reisner rings
We find families of simplicial complexes where the simplicial chromatic polynomials defined by Cooper--de Silva--Sazdanovic \cite{CdSS} are Hilbert series of Stanley--Reisner rings of auxiliary simplicial complexes. As a result, such generalized chromatic polynomials are determined by $h$-vectors of auxiliary simplicial complexes. In addition to generalizing related results on graphs and matroids, the simplicial complexes used allow us to consider problems that are not necessarily analogues of those considered for graphs. Some examples include supports of cyclotomic polynomials, log concavity properties of a polynomial or some translate of the polynomial, and symmetry relations between a polynomial and its reciprocal polynomial.
If the $h$-vectors involed have sufficiently large entries, the Hilbert series are Hilbert polynomials of some $k$-algebra. As a consequence of connections between $h$-vectors and simplicial chromatic polynomials, we also find simplicial complexes whose $h$-vectors are determined by addition-contraction relations of simplicial complexes analogous to deletion-contraction relations of graphs. The constructions used involve generalizations of relations Euler characteristics of configuration spaces and chromatic polynomials of graphs.
Graph coloring-related properties of (generating functions of) Hodge-Deligne polynomials
Motivated by a connection between the topology of (generalized) configuration spaces and chromatic polynomials, we show that generating functions of Hodge-Deligne polynomials of quasiprojective varieties and colorings of acyclic directed graphs with the complete graph $K_n$ as the underlying undirected graph. In order to do this, we combine an interpretation of Crew-Spirkl for plethysms involving chromatic symmetric polynomials using colorings of directed acyclic graphs to plethystic exponentials often appearing Hodge-Deligne polynomials of varieties. Applying this to a recent result of Florentino-Nozad-Zamora, we find a connection between $GL_n$-character varieties of finitely presented groups and colorings of these "complete" directed graphs by (signed) variables used in the Hodge-Deligne polynomials of the irreducible representations.
As a consequence of the constructions used, generators of Hodge-Deligne polynomials carry over to generators of the plethystic exponentials as a power series in a way that is compatible with this graph coloring interpretation and gives interesting combinatorial information that simplifies when we consider Hodge-Deligne polynomials of birationally equivalent varieties to be equivalent. Finally, we give an application of methods used to symmetries of Hodge-Deligne polynomials of varieties and their configuration spaces and their relation to chromatic symmetric polynomials.
Log-Concavity in Powers of Infinite Series Close to $(1-z)^{-1}$

In this paper, we use the analytic method of Odlyzko and Richmond to study the log-concavity of power series. If $f(z) = \sum_n a_nz^n$ is an infinite series with $a_n \geq 1$ and $a_0 + \cdots + a_n = O(n + 1)$ for all $n$, we prove that a super-polynomially long initial segment of $f^k(z)$ is log-concave. Furthermore, if there exists constants $C > 1$ and $α< 1$ such that $a_0 + \cdots + a_n = C(n + 1) - R_n$ where $0 \leq R_n \leq O((n + 1)^α)$, we show that an exponentially long initial segment of $f^k(z)$ is log-concave. This resolves a conjecture proposed by Letong Hong and the author, which implies another conjecture of Heim and Neuhauser that the Nekrasov-Okounkov polynomials $Q_n(z)$ are unimodal for sufficiently large $n$.
Bracket words: a generalisation of Sturmian words arising from generalised polynomials

Generalised polynomials are maps constructed by applying the floor function, addition, and multiplication to polynomials. Despite superficial similarity, generalised polynomials exhibit many phenomena which are impossible for polynomials. In particular, there exist generalised polynomial sequences which take only finitely many values without being periodic; examples of such sequences include the Sturmian words, as well as more complicated sequences like $[ 2\{ πn^2 + \sqrt{2}n[\sqrt{3}n] \}]$. The purpose of this paper is to investigate letter-to-letter codings of finitely-valued generalised polynomial sequences, which we call \emph{bracket words}, from the point of view of combinatorics on words. We survey existing results on generalised polynomials and their corollaries in terms of bracket words, and also prove several new results. Our main contribution is a polynomial bound on the subword complexity of bracket words.

Distance-layer structure of the De Bruijn and Kautz digraphs: analysis and application to deflection routing (with examples and remarks)
In this paper, we present a detailed study of the reach distance-layer structure of the De Bruijn and Kautz digraphs, and we apply our analysis to the performance evaluation of deflection routing in De Bruijn and Kautz networks. Concerning the distance-layer structure, we provide explicit polynomial expressions, in terms of the degree of the digraph, for the cardinalities of some relevant sets of this structure. Regarding the application to defection routing, and as a consequence of our polynomial description of the distance-layer structure, we formulate explicit rational expressions, in terms of the degree of the digraph, for some probabilities of interest in the analysis of this type of routing.
De Bruijn and Kautz digraphs are fundamental examples of digraphs on alphabet and iterated line digraphs. If the topology of the network under consideration corresponds to a digraph of this type, we can perform, in principle, a similar vertex layer description.
