Let ${\mathbb F}_q$ be the finite field of $q$ elements, where $q=p^r$ is a power of the prime $p$, and $\left(β_1, β_2, \dots, β_r \right)$ be an ordered basis of ${\mathbb F}_q$ over ${\mathbb F}_p$. For $$ξ=\sum_{i=1}^rx_iβ_i, \quad \quad x_i\in{\mathbb F}_p,$$ we define the Thue-Morse or sum-of-digits function $T(ξ)$ on ${\mathbb F}_q$ by \[ T(ξ)=\sum_{i=1}^{r}x_i.%,\quad ξ=x_1β_1+\cdots +x_rβ_r\in {\mathbb F}_q. \] For a given pattern length $s$ with $1\le s\le q$, a subset ${\cal A}=\{α_1,\ldots,α_s\}\subset {\mathbb F}_q$, a polynomial $f(X)\in{\mathbb F}_q[X]$ of degree $d$ and a vector $\underline{c}=(c_1,\ldots,c_s)\in{\mathbb F}_p^s$ we put \[ {\cal T}(\underline{c},{\cal A},f)=\{ξ\in{\mathbb F}_q : T(f(ξ+α_i))=c_i,~i=1,\ldots,s\}. \] In this paper we will see that under some natural conditions, the size of~${\cal T}(\underline{c},{\cal A},f)$ is asymptotically the same for all~$\underline{c}$ and ${\cal A}$ in both cases, $p\rightarrow \infty$ and $r\rightarrow \infty$, respectively. More precisely, we have \[ \left||{\cal T}(\underline{c},{\cal A},f)|-p^{r-s}\right|\le (d-1)q^{1/2}\] under certain conditions on $d,q$ and $s$. For monomials of large degree we improve this bound as well as we find conditions on $d,q$ and $s$ for which this bound is not true. In particular, if $1\le d<p$ we have the dichotomy that the bound is valid if $s\le d$ and fails for some $\underline{c}$ and ${\cal A}$ if $s\ge d+1$. The case $s=1$ was studied before by Dartyge and Sárközy.
Stable spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions, combinatorial identities, and half-space Yang-Baxter random field
Stable spin Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials labeled by partitions were recently introduced by Borodin and Wheeler in the context of higher spin six vertex models, which are one-parameter deformation of the Hall-Littlewood polynomials. We present a new combinatorial definition for the stable spin Hall-Littlewood polynomials, and derive a series of new combinatorial identities, including the skew Littlewood identity, refined Cauchy identity and refined Littlewood identity.
Employing bijectivisation of summation identities, Bufetov and Petrov introduced local stochastic moves based on the Yang-Baxter equation. Combining the skew Littlewood identity and these moves, we introduce the half-space Yang-Baxter random field for stable spin Hall-Littlewood polynomials. We match the lengths of the partitions in this field with a new dynamic version of stochastic six vertex model in the half-quadrant, which can be mapped to a dynamic version of discrete-time interacting particle system on the half-line with an open boundary.

The ring of q-character polynomials is a q-analog of the classical ring of character polynomials for the symmetric groups. This ring consists of certain class functions defined simultaneously on the groups $Gl_n(F_q)$ for all n, which we also interpret as statistics on matrices. Here we evaluate these statistics on all matrices and work towards computing the structure constants of the product in this ring. We show that the statistics are periodically polynomial in q, and governed by universal polynomials $P_{λ,μ}(q)$ which we compute explicitly, indexed by pairs of integer partitions. The product structure is similarly polynomial in q in many cases, governed by polynomials $R_{λ,μ}^ν(q)$ indexed by triples of partitions, which we compute in some cases.
Our calculations seem to exhibit several unexpected patterns. Mainly, we conjecture that certain indecomposable statistics generate the whole ring, and indeed prove this for statistics associated with matrices consisting of up to 2 Jordan blocks. Furthermore, the coefficients we compute exhibit surprising stability phenomena, which in turn reflect stabilizations of joint moments as well as multiplicities in the irreducible decomposition of tensor products of representations of $Gl_n(F_q)$ for $n\gg 1$. We use this stabilization to compute the correlation of the number of unipotent Jordan blocks of two sizes.
The Ring of Polyfunctions over $\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$

We study the ring of polyfunctions over $\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$. The ring of polyfunctions over a commutative ring $R$ with unit element is the ring of functions $f:R\to R$ which admit a polynomial representative $p\in R[x]$ in the sense that $f(x)= p(x)$ for all $x\in R$. This allows to define a ring invariant $s$ which associates to a commutative ring $R$ with unit element a value in $\mathbb N\cup\{\infty\}$. The function $s$ generalizes the number theoretic Smarandache function. For the ring $R=\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$ we provide a unique representation of polynomials which vanish as a function. This yields a new formula for the number $Ψ(n)$ of polyfunctions over $\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$. We also investigate algebraic properties of the ring of polyfunctions over $\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$. In particular, we identify the additive subgroup of the ring and the ring structure itself. Moreover we derive formulas for the size of the ring of polyfunctions in several variables over $\mathbb Z/n\mathbb Z$, and we compute the number of polyfunctions which are units of the ring.

The Cauchy identities play an important role in the theory of symmetric functions. It is known that Cauchy sums for the $q$-Whittaker and the skew Schur polynomials produce the same factorized expressions modulo a $q$-Pochhammer symbol. We consider the sums with restrictions on the length of the first rows for labels of both polynomials and prove an identity which relates them. The proof is based on techniques from integrable probability: we rewrite the identity in terms of two probability measures: the $q$-Whittaker measure and the periodic Schur measure. The relation follows by comparing their Fredholm determinant formulas.
Skew RSK dynamics: Greene invariants, affine crystals and applications to $q$-Whittaker polynomials

Iterating the skew RSK correspondence discovered by Sagan and Stanley in the late '80s, we define a deterministic dynamics on the space of pairs of skew Young tableaux $(P,Q)$. We find that this skew RSK dynamics displays conservation laws which, in the picture of Viennot's shadow line construction, identify generalizations of Greene invariants.
The introduction of a novel realization of $0$-th Kashiwara operators reveals that the skew RSK dynamics possesses symmetries induced by an affine bicrystal structure,
which, combined with connectedness properties of Demazure crystals, leads to its linearization.
Studying asymptotic evolution of the dynamics started from a pair of skew tableaux $(P,Q)$, we discover a new bijection $Υ: (P,Q) \mapsto (V,W; κ, ν)$. Here $(V,W)$ is a pair of
vertically strict tableaux, i.e., column strict filling of Young diagrams with no condition on rows, with shape prescribed by the Greene invariant, $κ$ is an array of non-negative weights and $ν$ is a partition.
An application of this construction is the first bijective proof of Cauchy and Littlewood identities involving $q$-Whittaker polynomials. New identities relating sums of $q$-Whittaker and Schur polynomials are also presented.

We consider $q$-matroids and their associated classical matroids derived from Gabidulin rank-metric codes. We express the generalized rank weights of a Gabidulin rank-metric code in terms of Betti numbers of the dual classical matroid associated to the $q$-matroid corresponding to the code. In our main result, we show how these Betti numbers and their elongations determine the generalized weight polynomials for $q$-matorids, in particular, for the Gabidulin rank-metric codes. In addition, we demonstrate how the weight distribution and higher weight spectra of such codes can be determined directly from the associated $q$-matroids by using Möbius functions of its lattice of $q$-flats.

Thurston obtained a combinatorial characterization for generic branched self-coverings that preserve the orientation of the oriented 2-sphere by associating a planar graph to them [arXiv:1502.04760]. In this work, the Thurston result is generalized to any branched covering of the oriented 2-sphere. To achieve that the notion of local balance introduced by Thurston is generalized. As an application, a new proof for a Theorem of Eremenko-Gabrielov-Mukhin-Tarasov-Varchenko [MR1888795], [MR2552110] is obtained. This theorem corresponded to a special case of the B. \& M. Shapiro conjecture. In this case, it refers to generic rational functions stating that a generic rational function $ R : \mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1 \rightarrow \mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1$ with only real critical points can be transformed by post-composition with an automorphism of $\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^1$ into a quotient of polynomials with real coefficients. Operations against balanced graphs are introduced.
A Matrix Related to Stern Polynomials and the Prouhet-Thue-Morse Sequence
The Stern polynomials defined by $s(0;x)=0$, $s(1;x)=1$, and for $n\geq 1$ by $s(2n;x)=s(n;x^2)$ and $s(2n+1;x)=x\,s(n;x^2)+s(n+1;x^2)$ have only 0 and 1 as coefficients. We construct an infinite lower-triangular matrix related to the coefficients of the $s(n;x)$ and show that its inverse has only 0, 1, and $-1$ as entries, which we find explicitly. In particular, the sign distribution of the entries is determined by the Prouhet-Thue-Morse sequence. We also obtain other properties of this matrix and a related Pascal-type matrix that involve the Catalan, Stirling, Fibonacci, Fine, and Padovan numbers. Further results involve compositions of integers, the Sierpiński matrix, and identities connecting the Stern and Prouhet-Thue-Morse sequences.
Yet another way of calculating moments of the Kesten's distribution and its consequences for Catalan numbers and Catalan triangles
We calculate moments of the so-called Kesten distribution by means of the expansion of the denominator of the density of this distribution and then integrate all summands with respect to the semicircle distribution. By comparing this expression with the formulae for the moments of Kesten's distribution obtained by other means, we find identities involving polynomials whose power coefficients are closely related to Catalan numbers, Catalan triangles, binomial coefficients. Finally, as applications of these identities we obtain various interesting relations between the aforementioned numbers, also concerning Lucas, Fibonacci and Fine numbers.
Computations associated with the resonance arrangement
The resonance arrangement $\mathcal{A}_n$ is the arrangement of hyperplanes in $\mathbb{R}^n$ given by all hyperplanes of the form $\sum_{i \in I} x_i = 0$, where $I$ is a nonempty subset of $\{1,\dots,n\}$. We consider the characteristic polynomial $χ(\mathcal{A}_n; t)$ of the resonance arrangement, whose value $R_n$ at $-1$ is of particular interest, and corresponds to counts of generalized retarded functions in quantum field theory, among other things. No formula is known for either the characteristic polynomial or $R_n$, though $R_n$ has been computed up to $n=8$. By exploiting symmetry and using computational methods, we compute the characteristic polynomial of $\mathcal{A}_9$, and thus obtain $R_9$. The coefficients of the characteristic polynomial are also equal to the so-called Betti numbers of the complexified hyperplane arrangement; that is, the coefficient of $t^{n-i}$ is denoted by the Betti number $b_i(\mathcal{A}_n)$. Explicit formulas are known for the Betti numbers up to $b_3(\mathcal{A}_n)$. Using computational methods, we also obtain an explicit formula for $b_4(\mathcal{A}_n)$, which gives the $t^{n-4}$ coefficient of the characteristic polynomial.

Automatic sequences are not suitable sequences for cryptographic applications since both their subword complexity and their expansion complexity are small, and their correlation measure of order 2 is large. These sequences are highly predictable despite having a large maximum order complexity. However, recent results show that polynomial subsequences of automatic sequences, such as the Thue--Morse sequence, are better candidates for pseudorandom sequences. A natural generalization of automatic sequences are morphic sequences, given by a fixed point of a prolongeable morphism that is not necessarily uniform. In this paper we prove a lower bound for the maximum order complexity of the sum of digits function in Zeckendorf base which is an example of a morphic sequence. We also prove that the polynomial subsequences of this sequence keep large maximum order complexity, such as the Thue--Morse sequence.

We prove that there is a Hermitian self-orthogonal $k$-dimensional truncated generalised Reed-Solomon code of length $n \leqslant q^2$ over ${\mathbb F}_{q^2}$ if and only if there is a polynomial $g \in {\mathbb F}_{q^2}$ of degree at most $(q-k)q-1$ such that $g+g^q$ has $q^2-n$ distinct zeros. This allows us to determine the smallest $n$ for which there is a Hermitian self-orthogonal $k$-dimensional truncated generalised Reed-Solomon code of length $n$ over ${\mathbb F}_{q^2}$, verifying a conjecture of Grassl and Rötteler. We also provide examples of Hermitian self-orthogonal $k$-dimensional generalised Reed-Solomon codes of length $q^2+1$ over ${\mathbb F}_{q^2}$, for $k=q-1$ and $q$ an odd power of two.
Improved bounds in Weaver's ${\rm KS}_r$ conjecture for high rank positive semidefinite matrices

Recently Marcus, Spielman and Srivastava proved Weaver's ${\rm{KS}}_r$ conjecture, which gives a positive solution to the Kadison-Singer problem. Cohen and Brändén independently extended this result to obtain the arbitrary-rank version of Weaver's ${\rm{KS}}_r$ conjecture. In this paper, we present a new bound in Weaver's ${\rm{KS}}_r$ conjecture for the arbitrary-rank case. To do that, we introduce the definition of $(k,m)$-characteristic polynomials and employ it to improve the previous estimate on the largest root of the mixed characteristic polynomials. For the rank-one case, our bound agrees with the Bownik-Casazza-Marcus-Speegle's bound when $r=2$ and with the Ravichandran-Leake's bound when $r>2$. For the higher-rank case, we sharpen the previous bounds from Cohen and from Brändén .

We prove a new polynomial refinement of the Capparelli's identities. Using a special case of Bailey's lemma we prove many infinite families of sum-product identities that root from our finite analogues of Capparelli's identities. We also discuss the $q\mapsto 1/q$ duality transformation of the base identities and some related partition theoretic relations.

The diamond is the graph obtained by removing an edge from the complete graph on 4 vertices. A graph is ($P_6$, diamond)-free if it contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to a six-vertex path or a diamond. In this paper we show that the chromatic number of a ($P_6$, diamond)-free graph $G$ is no larger than the maximum of 6 and the clique number of $G$. We do this by reducing the problem to imperfect ($P_6$, diamond)-free graphs via the Strong Perfect Graph Theorem, dividing the imperfect graphs into several cases, and giving a proper colouring for each case. We also show that there is exactly one 6-vertex-critical ($P_6$, diamond, $K_6$)-free graph. Together with the Lovász theta function, this gives a polynomial time algorithm to compute the chromatic number of ($P_6$, diamond)-free graphs.
A Context-free Grammar for the $e$-Positivity of the Trivariate Second-order Eulerian Polynomials

Ma-Ma-Yeh made a beautiful observation that a transformation of the grammar of Dumont instantly leads to the $γ$-positivity of the Eulerian polynomials. We notice that the transformed grammar bears a striking resemblance to the grammar for 0-1-2 increasing trees also due to Dumont. The appearance of the factor of two fits perfectly in a grammatical labeling of 0-1-2 increasing plane trees. Furthermore, the grammatical calculus is instrumental to the computation of the generating functions. This approach can be adapted to study the $e$-positivity of the trivariate second-order Eulerian polynomials first introduced by Dumont in the contexts of ternary trees and Stirling permutations, and independently defined by Janson, in connection with the joint distribution of the numbers of ascents, descents and plateaux over Stirling permutations.
A polynomial Time Algorithm to Solve The Max-atom Problem
In this paper we consider $m$ ($m \geq 1$)conjunctions of Max-atoms that is atoms of the form $\max(z,y) + r \geq x$, where the offset $r$ is a real constant and $x,y,z$ are variables. We show that the Max-atom problem (MAP) belongs to $\textsf{P}$. Indeed, we provide an algorithm which solves the MAP in $O(n^{6} m^{2} + n^{4} m^{3} + n^{2} m^{4})$ operations, where $n$ is the number of variables which compose the max-atoms. As a by-product other problems also known to be in $\textsf{NP} \cap \textsf{co-NP}$ are in $\textsf{P}$. P1: the problem to know if a tropical cone is trivial or not. P2: problem of tropical rank of a tropical matrix. P3: parity game problem. P4: scheduling problem with AND/OR precedence constraints. P5: problem on hypergraph (shortest path). P6: problem in model checking and $μ$-calculus.

For any positive integer $t$, a \emph{$t$-broom} is a graph obtained from $K_{1,t+1}$ by subdividing an edge once. In this paper, we show that, for graphs $G$ without induced $t$-brooms, we have $χ(G) = o(ω(G)^{t+1})$, where $χ(G)$ and $ω(G)$ are the chromatic number and clique number of $G$, respectively. When $t=2$, this answers a question of Schiermeyer and Randerath. Moreover, for $t=2$, we strengthen the bound on $χ(G)$ to $7ω(G)^2$, confirming a conjecture of Sivaraman. For $t\geq 3$ and \{$t$-broom, $K_{t,t}$\}-free graphs, we improve the bound to $o(ω^{t})$.

We prove that the enumerative polynomials of quasi-Stirling permutations of multisets with respect to the statistics of plateaux, descents and ascents are partial $γ$-positive, thereby confirming a recent conjecture posed by Lin, Ma and Zhang. This is accomplished by proving the partial $γ$-positivity of the enumerative polynomials of certain ordered labeled trees, which are in bijection with quasi-Stirling permutations of multisets. As an application, we provide an alternative proof of the partial $γ$-positivity of the enumerative polynomials on Stirling permutations of multisets.
