The Weyl groupoid in Type A, Young diagrams and Borel subalgebras
Let $\mathtt{k}$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. Let ${\stackrel{\rm o}{\mathfrak{g}}}$ be the Lie superalgebra ${\mathfrak{sl}}(n|m)$ and let $\mathfrak{W}$ be the Weyl groupoid introduced by Sergeev and Veselov using the root system of ${\stackrel{\rm o}{\mathfrak{g}}}$. An important subgroupoid $\mathfrak T_{iso}$ of ${\mathfrak{W}}$ has base $Δ_{iso}$, the set of all the isotropic roots. Motivated by deformed quantum Calogero-Moser problems, the same authors considered an action of $\mathfrak{W}$ on $\mathtt{k}^{n|m}$ depending on a parameter $κ$. %When $κ$ is negative special, they showed this action has infinite orbits. In the case $m>n$, with $m,n $ relatively prime and $κ=-n/m$ we study a particular infinite orbit of $\mathfrak T_{iso}$ with some special properties. This orbit, thought of as a directed graph is isomorphic to the graph of an orbit for the action of $\mathfrak T_{iso}$ on certain Borel subalgebras of the affinization ${\widehat{L}(\stackrel{\rm _o}{\mathfrak{g}})}$ of ${\stackrel{\rm o}{\mathfrak{g}}}$. %The root groupoid has a base consisting of Borel subalgebras with fixed even part, and morphisms are given by odd reflections. The underlying reason for this graph isomorphism is that both have combinatorics which can be described using Young diagrams and tableaux drawn on the surface of a rotating cylinder with circumference $n$ and length $m$. Allowing the cylinder to rotate produces an infinite orbit. This leads to a third graph which is isomorphic to the other two.

A Correspondence between Chord Diagrams and Families of 0-1 Young Diagrams
A chord diagram is a set of chords in which no pair of chords has a common endvertex. For a chord diagram $E$ having a crossing $S = \{ ac, bd \}$, by the chord expansion of $E$ with respect to $S$, we have two chord diagrams $E_1 = (E\setminus S) \cup \{ ab, cd \}$ and $E_2 = (E\setminus S) \cup \{ da, bc \}$. Starting from a chord diagram $E$, by iterating expansions, we have a binary tree $T$ such that $E$ is a root of $T$ and a multiset of nonintersecting chord diagrams appear in the set of leaves of $T$. The number of leaves, which is not depending on the choice of expansions, is called the chord expansion number of $E$. A $0$-$1$ Young diagram is a Young diagram having a value of $0$ or $1$ for all boxes. This paper shows that the chord expansion number of some type counts the number of $0$-$1$ Young diagrams under some conditions. In particular, it is shown that the chord expansion number of an $n$-crossing, which corresponds to the Euler number, equals the number of $0$-$1$ Young diagrams of shape $(n,n-1,\ldots,1)$ such that each column has at most one $1$ and each row has an even number of $1$'s.

2-covers of wide Young diagrams
A Young diagram $Y$ is called wide if every sub-diagram $Z$ formed by a subset of the rows of $Y$ dominates $Z'$, the conjugate of $Z$. A Young diagram $Y$ is called Latin if its squares can be assigned numbers so that for each $i$, the $i$th row is filled injectively with the numbers $1, \ldots ,a_i$, where $a_i$ is the length of $i$th row of $Y$, and every column is also filled injectively. A conjecture of Chow and Taylor, publicized by Chow, Fan, Goemans, and Vondrak is that a wide Young diagram is Latin. We prove a dual version of the conjecture.

On Young diagrams of maximum dimension
Published in Communications in Mathematics, Volume 31 (2023), Issue 3 (Special issue: in memory of Sergei Duzhin) (December 22, 2023) cm:12641 • View PublicationBIB
We study the problem of finding Young diagrams of maximum dimension, i. e. those with the largest number of Young tableaux of their shapes. Consider a class of Young diagrams that differ from a symmetric diagram by no more than one box $(i,j)$ in each row and column. It is proven that when moving boxes $(i,j), i>j$ to symmetric positions $(j,i)$, the original diagram is transformed into another diagram of the same size, but with a greater or equal dimension. A conjecture is formulated that generalizes the above fact to the case of arbitrary Young diagrams. Based on this conjecture, we developed an algorithm applied to obtain new Young diagrams of sizes up to 42 thousand boxes with large and maximum dimensions.

Type A Partially-Symmetric Macdonald Polynomials
We construct type A partially-symmetric Macdonald polynomials $P_{(λ\mid γ)}$, where $λ\in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}^{n-k}$ is a partition and $γ\in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}^k$ is a composition. These are polynomials which are symmetric in the first $n-k$ variables, but not necessarily in the final $k$ variables. We establish their stability and an integral form defined using Young diagram statistics. Finally, we build Pieri-type rules for degree 1 products $x_j P_{(λ\mid γ)}$ for $j > n-k$ and $e_1[x_1, \dotsc, x_{n-k}] P_{(λ\mid γ)}$, along with substantial combinatorial simplification of the $e_1$ multiplication. The $P_{(λ\mid γ)}$ are the same as the $m$-symmetric Macdonald polynomials defined by Lapointe up to a change of variables.

Schubert cells of mixed type in complex Lagrangian Grassmannians
We describe CW decompositions of complex Lagrangian Grassmannians, that contain as subcomplexes, CW decompositions of real Lagrangian Grassmannians by Schubert-Arnol'd cells. The degrees of attaching maps are explicitly computed in terms of quantities that can be read off from the corresponding shifted Young diagrams of mixed type. The signs are determined by a choice of lexicographical ordering on coordinates. As an immediate consequence, we obtain the homotopy extension property for real and complex Lagrangian Grassmannians. We also show some torsion classes in the integral homology of the real Lagrangian Grassmannian are contractible inside the complex Lagrangian Grassmannian.

Charging solid partitions
Published • View PublicationBIB
Solid partitions are the 4D generalization of the plane partitions in 3D and Young diagrams in 2D, and they can be visualized as stacking of 4D unit-size boxes in the positive corner of a 4D room. Physically, solid partitions arise naturally as 4D molten crystals that count equivariant D-brane BPS states on the simplest toric Calabi-Yau fourfold, $\mathbb{C}^4$, generalizing the 3D statement that plane partitions count equivariant D-brane BPS states on $\mathbb{C}^3$. In the construction of BPS algebras for toric Calabi-Yau threefolds, the so-called charge function on the 3D molten crystal is an important ingredient -- it is the generating function for the eigenvalues of an infinite tower of Cartan elements of the algebra. In this paper, we derive the charge function for solid partitions. Compared to the 3D case, the new feature is the appearance of contributions from certain 4-box and 5-box clusters, which will make the construction of the corresponding BPS algebra much more complicated than in the 3D.

Murnaghan-Type Representations of the Elliptic Hall Algebra
We construct a new family of graded representations $\widetilde{W}_λ$ indexed by Young diagrams $λ$ for the positive elliptic Hall algebra $\mathcal{E}^{+}$ which generalizes the standard $\mathcal{E}^{+}$ action on symmetric functions. These representations have homogeneous bases of eigenvectors for the action of the Macdonald element $P_{0,1} \in \mathcal{E}^{+}$ generalizing the symmetric Macdonald functions. The analysis of the structure of these representations exhibits interesting combinatorics arising from the stable limits of periodic standard Young tableaux. We find an explicit combinatorial rule for the action of the multiplication operators $e_r[X]^{\bullet}$ generalizing the Pieri rule for symmetric Macdonald functions. Lastly, we obtain a family of interesting $q,t$ product-series identities which come from the analysis of certain combinatorial statistics associated to periodic standard Young tableaux.

Optimal transport for some symmetric, multidimensional integer partitions
A result of Hohloch links the theory of integer partitions with the Monge formulation of the optimal transport problem, giving the optimal transport map between (Young diagrams of) integer partitions and their corresponding symmetric partitions. Our aim is to extend Hohloch's result to the higher dimensional case. In doing so, we show the Kantorovich formulation of the optimal transport problem provides the tool to study the matching of higher dimensional partitions with their corresponding symmetric partitions.

The squish map and the $\text{SL}_2$ double dimer model
Published in Electron. J. Combin.31(2024), no.1, Paper No. 1.61, 24 pp • View PublicationBIB
A plane partition, whose 3D Young diagram is made of unit cubes, can be approximated by a ``coarser" plane partition, made of cubes of side length 2. Indeed, there are two such approximations obtained by ``rounding up" or ``rounding down" to the nearest cube. We relate this coarsening (or downsampling) operation to the squish map introduced by the second author in earlier work. We exhibit a related measure-preserving map between the dimer model on the honeycomb graph, and the $\text{SL}_2$ double dimer model on a coarser honeycomb graph; we compute the most interesting special case of this map, related to plane partition $q$-enumeration with 2-periodic weights. As an application, we specialize the weights to be certain roots of unity, obtain novel generating functions (some known, some new, and some conjectural) that $(-1)$-enumerate certain classes of pairs of plane partitions according to how their dimer configurations interact.

On the Kronecker product of Schur functions of square shapes
Motivated by the Saxl conjecture and the tensor square conjecture, which states that the tensor squares of certain irreducible representations of the symmetric group contain all irreducible representations, we study the tensor squares of irreducible representations associated with square Young diagrams. We give a formula for computing Kronecker coefficients, which are indexed by two square partitions and a three-row partition, specifically one with a short second row and the smallest part equal to 1. We also prove the positivity of square Kronecker coefficients for particular families of partitions, including three-row partitions and near-hooks.

Asymptotics of Some Plancherel Averages via Polynomiality Results
Published in La Matematica 2 (2023), 668-691 • View PublicationBIB
Consider Young diagrams of $n$ boxes distributed according to the Plancherel measure. So those diagrams could be the output of the RSK algorithm, when applied to random permutations of the set $\{1,\ldots,n\}$. Here we are interested in asymptotics, as $n\to \infty$, of expectations of certain functions of random Young diagrams, such as the number of bumping steps of the RSK algorithm that leads to that diagram, the side length of its Durfee square, or the logarithm of its probability. We can express these functions in terms of hook lengths or contents of the boxes of the diagram, which opens the door for application of known polynomiality results for Plancherel averages. We thus obtain representations of expectations as binomial convolutions, that can be further analyzed with the help of Rice's integral or Poisson generating functions. Among our results is a very explicit expression for the constant appearing in the almost equipartition property of the Plancherel measure.

Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity for $321$-avoiding Kazhdan-Lusztig varieties
We prove the Castelnuovo--Mumford regularity of 321-avoiding Kazhdan--Lusztig varieties can be computed combinatorially in terms of $K$-theoretic skew excited Young diagrams. We present an algorithm which gives a lower bound for this regularity and describe a setting in which this algorithm provides precise regularity computations. This algorithm specializes to compute the regularity of all two-sided mixed ladder determinantal varieties.

Planar algebras for the Young graph and the Khovanov Heisenberg category
Published in International Journal of Mathematics, Vol. 36, No. 6 (2025) 2550002 • View PublicationBIB
This paper studies planar algebras of Jones' style associated with the Young graph. We first see that, given a positive real valued function on the Young graph, we may obtain a planar algebra whose structure is defined in terms of a state sum over the ways of filling planar tangles with Young diagrams. We delve into the case that the function is harmonic and related to the Plancherel measures on Young diagrams. Along with an element that is depicted as a cross of two strings, we see that the defining relations among morphisms for the Khovanov Heisenberg category are recovered in the planar algebra. We also identify certain elements in the planar algebra with particular functions of Young diagrams that include the moments, Boolean cumulants and normalized characters. This paper thereby bridges diagramatical categorification and asymptotic representation theory. In fact, the Khovanov Heisenberg category is one of the most fundamental examples of diagramatical categorification whereas the harmonic functions on the Young graph have been a central object in the asymptotic representation theory of symmetric groups.

The Frobenius transform of a symmetric function
We define an abelian group homomorphism $\mathscr{F}$, which we call the Frobenius transform, from the ring of symmetric functions to the ring of the symmetric power series. The matrix entries of $\mathscr{F}$ in the Schur basis are the restriction coefficients $r_λ^μ= \dim \operatorname{Hom}_{\mathfrak{S}_n}(V_μ, \mathbb{S}^λ\mathbb{C}^n)$, which are known to be nonnegative integers but have no known combinatorial interpretation. The Frobenius transform satisfies the identity $\mathscr{F}\{fg\} = \mathscr{F}\{f\} \ast \mathscr{F}\{g\}$, where $\ast$ is the Kronecker product. We prove for all symmetric functions $f$ that $\mathscr{F}\{f\} = \mathscr{F}_{\mathrm{Sur}}\{f\} \cdot (1 + h_1 + h_2 + \cdots)$, where $\mathscr{F}_{\mathrm{Sur}}\{f\}$ is a symmetric function with the same degree and leading term as $f$. Then, we compute the matrix entries of $\mathscr{F}_{\mathrm{Sur}}\{f\}$ in the complete homogeneous, elementary, and power sum bases and of $\mathscr{F}^{-1}_{\mathrm{Sur}}\{f\}$ in the complete homogeneous and elementary bases, giving combinatorial interpretations of the coefficients where possible. In particular, the matrix entries of $\mathscr{F}^{-1}_{\mathrm{Sur}}\{f\}$ in the elementary basis count words with a constraint on their Lyndon factorization. As an example application of our main results, we prove that $r_λ^μ= 0$ if $|λ\cap \hatμ| < 2|\hatμ| - |λ|$, where $\hatμ$ is the partition formed by removing the first part of $μ$. We also prove that $r_λ^μ= 0$ if the Young diagram of $μ$ contains a square of side length greater than $2^{λ_1 - 1}$, and this inequality is tight.

Increasing subsequences of linear size in random permutations and the Robinson-Schensted tableaux of permutons
Published in Random Structures & Algorithms, Volume 65, Issue 3, Pages 488-534, October 2024 • View PublicationBIB
The study of longest increasing subsequences (LIS) in permutations led to that of Young diagrams via Robinson-Schensted's (RS) correspondence. In a celebrated paper, Vershik and Kerov obtained a limit theorem for such diagrams and found that the LIS of a uniform permutation of size n behaves as $2\sqrt{n}$. Independently and much later, Hoppen et al. introduced the theory of permutons as a scaling limit of permutations. In this paper, we extend in some sense the RS correspondence of permutations to the space of permutons. When the "RS-tableaux" of a permuton are non-trivial, we show that the RS-tableaux of random permutations sampled from this permuton exhibit a linear behavior, in the sense that their first rows and columns have lengths of linear order. In particular, the LIS of such permutations behaves as a multiple of n. We also prove some large deviation results for these convergences. Finally, by studying asymptotic properties of Fomin's algorithm for permutations, we show that the RS-tableaux of a permuton satisfy a partial differential equation.

Palindromicity of the numerator of a statistical generating function
We prove a conjecture of Bourn and Willenbring (2020) regarding the palindromicity and unimodality of a certain family of polynomials $N_n(t)$. These recursively defined polynomials arise as the numerators of generating functions in the context of the discrete one-dimensional earth mover's distance (EMD). The key to our proof is showing that the defining recursion can be viewed as describing sums of symmetric differences of pairs of Young diagrams; in this setting, palindromicity is equivalent to the preservation of the symmetric difference under the transposition of diagrams. We also observe a connection to recent work by Defant et al. (2024) on the Wiener index of minuscule lattices, which we reinterpret combinatorially to obtain explicit formulas for the coefficients of $N_n(t)$ and for the expected value of the discrete EMD.

Equidistribution of set-valued statistics on standard Young tableaux and transversals
As a natural generalization of permutations, transversals of Young diagrams play an important role in the study of pattern avoiding permutations. Let $\mathcal{T}_λ(τ)$ and $\mathcal{ST}_λ(τ)$ denote the set of $τ$-avoiding transversals and $τ$-avoiding symmetric transversals of a Young diagram $λ$, respectively. In this paper, we are mainly concerned with the distribution of the peak set and the valley set on standard Young tableaux and pattern avoiding transversals. In particular, by introducing Knuth transformations on standard Young tableaux, we prove that the peak set and the valley set are equidistributed on the standard Young tableaux of shape $λ/μ$ for any skew diagram $λ/μ$. The equidistribution enables us to show that the peak set is equidistributed over $\mathcal{T}_λ(12\cdots kτ)$ (resp. $\mathcal{ST}_λ(12\cdots k τ)$) and $\mathcal{T}_λ(k\cdots 21τ) $ (resp. $\mathcal{ST}_λ(k\cdots 21τ)$) for any Young diagram $λ$ and any permutation $τ$ of $\{k+1, k+2, \ldots, k+m\}$ with $k,m\geq 1$. Our results are refinements of the result of Backelin-West-Xin which states that $|\mathcal{T}_λ(12\cdots kτ)|=|\mathcal{T}_λ(k\cdots 21 τ)|$ and the result of Bousquet-Mélou and Steingrímsson which states that $|\mathcal{ST}_λ(12\cdots k τ)|=|\mathcal{ST}_λ(k\cdots 21 τ)|$.

Lattice paths in Young diagrams
Fill each box in a Young diagram with the number of paths from the bottom of its column to the end of its row, using steps north and east. Then, any square sub-matrix of this array starting on the south-east boundary has determinant one. We provide a - to our knowledge - new bijective argument for this result. Using the same ideas, we prove further identities involving these numbers which correspond to an integral orthonormal basis of the inner product space with Gram matrix given by the array in question. This provides an explicit answer to a question (listed as unsolved) raised in Exercise 6.27 c) of Stanley's Enumerative Combinatorics.
