On sofic approximations of Property (T) groups
We prove Bowen's conjecture that every sequence of finite graphs that locally converges to the Cayley graph of a countably infinite group with Kazhdan Property (T) is essentially a vertex-disjoint union of expander graphs. We characterize graph sequences that are essentially a vertex-disjoint union of expander graphs in terms of the Markov operator.

On some properties of enhanced power graph
Given a group $G$, the enhanced power graph of $G$ denoted by $\mathcal{G}_e(G)$, is the graph with vertex set $G$ and two distinct vertices $x, y$ are edge connected in $\mathcal{G}_e(G)$ if there exists $z\in G $ such that $x=z^m$ and $ y=z^n $, for some $m, n\in \mathbb{N}$. In this article, we characterize the enhanced power graph $\mathcal{G}_e(G)$ of $G$. The graph $\mathcal{G}_e(G)$ is complete if and only if $G$ is cyclic, and $\mathcal{G}_e(G)$ is Eulerian if and only if $|G|$ is odd. We classify all abelian groups and also all non-abelian $p-$groups $G$ for which $\mathcal{G}_e(G)$ satisfies the cone property.

Combinatorial results implied by many zero divisors in a group ring
Published • View PublicationBIB
It has been recently proved (by Croot, Lev and Pach and the subsequent work by Ellenberg and Gijswijt) that for a group $G=G_0^n$, where $G_0\ne \{1,-1\}^m$ is a fixed finite Abelian group and $n$ is large, any subset $A$ without 3-progressions (triples $x,y,z$ of different elements with $xy=z^2$) contains at most $|G|^{1-c}$ elements, where $c>0$ is a constant depending only on $G_0$. This is known to be false when $G$ is, say, large cyclic group. The aim of this note is to show that algebraic property which corresponds to this difference is the following: in the first case a group algebra $\mathbb{F}[G]$ over suitable field $\mathbb{F}$ contains a subspace $X$ with codimension at most $|X|^{1-c}$ such that $X^3=0$. We discuss which bounds are obtained for finite Abelian $p$-groups and for some matrix $p$-groups: Heisenberg group over $\mathbb{F}_p$ and the unitriangular group over $\mathbb{F}_p$. Also we show how the method works for further generalizations by Kleinberg--Sawin--Speyer and Ellenberg.

On Generalized Minors and Quiver Representations
Published • View PublicationBIB
The cluster algebra of any acyclic quiver can be realized as the coordinate ring of a subvariety of a Kac-Moody group -- the quiver is an orientation of its Dynkin diagram, defining a Coxeter element and thereby a double Bruhat cell. We use this realization to connect representations of the quiver with those of the group. We show that cluster variables of preprojective (resp. postinjective) quiver representations are realized by generalized minors of highest-weight (resp. lowest-weight) group representations, generalizing results of Yang-Zelevinsky in finite type. In type $A_n^{\!(1)}$ and finitely many other affine types, we show that cluster variables of regular quiver representations are realized by generalized minors of group representations that are neither highest- nor lowest-weight; we conjecture this holds more generally.

Strongly regular graphs with the same parameters as the symplectic graph
We consider orbit partitions of groups of automorphisms for the symplectic graph and apply Godsil-McKay switching. As a result, we find four families of strongly regular graphs with the same parameters as the symplectic graphs, including the one discovered by Abiad and Haemers. Also, we prove that switched graphs are non-isomorphic to each other by considering the number of common neighbors of three vertices.

On exponential sums over orbits in $\mathbb{F}_p^d$
This paper proves a bound for exponential sums over orbits of vectors in $\mathbb{F}_p^d$ under subgroups of $\rm{GL}_d(\mathbb{F}_p)$. The main tool is a classification theorem for approximate groups due to Gill, Helfgott, Pyber, and Szabó.

Pieri rules for classical groups and equinumeration between generalized oscillating tableaux and semistandard tableaux
Published • View PublicationBIB
We present several equinumerous results between generalized oscillating tableaux and semistandard tableaux and give a representation-theoretical proof to them. As one of the key ingredients of the proof, we provide Pieri rules for the symplectic and orthogonal groups.

Face numbers and the fundamental group

We resolve a conjecture of Kalai asserting that the $g_2$-number of any simplicial complex $Δ$ that represents a connected normal pseudomanifold of dimension $d\geq 3$ is at least as large as ${d+2 \choose 2}m(Δ)$, where $m(Δ)$ denotes the minimum number of generators of the fundamental group of $Δ$. Furthermore, we prove that a weaker bound, $h_2(Δ)\geq {d+1 \choose 2}m(Δ)$, applies to any $d$-dimensional pure simplicial poset $Δ$ all of whose faces of co-dimension $\geq 2$ have connected links. This generalizes a result of Klee. Finally, for a pure relative simplicial poset $Ψ$ all of whose vertex links satisfy Serre's condition $(S_r)$, we establish lower bounds on $h_1(Ψ),\ldots,h_r(Ψ)$ in terms of the $μ$-numbers introduced by Bagchi and Datta.

In this paper, following the methods of http://arxiv.org/abs/1305.7449v2, we show that the double covering groups of the symmetric and alternating groups have p-basic sets for any odd prime p.
Primitive permutation groups with a suborbit of length 5 and vertex-primitive graphs of valency 5
Published in J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 157 (2018) 247-266 • View PublicationBIB
We classify finite primitive permutation groups having a suborbit of length 5. As a corollary, we obtain a classification of finite vertex-primitive graphs of valency 5. In the process, we also classify finite almost simple groups that have a maximal subgroup isomorphic to $\mathrm{Alt}(5)$ or $\mathrm{Sym}(5)$.

Integral Cayley Graphs over Dihedral Groups
Published • View PublicationBIB
In this paper, we give a necessary and sufficient condition for the integrality of Cayley graphs over the dihedral group $D_n=\langle a,b\mid a^n=b^2=1,bab=a^{-1}\rangle$. Moreover, we also obtain some simple sufficient conditions for the integrality of Cayley graphs over $D_n$ in terms of the Boolean algebra of $\langle a\rangle$, from which we find infinite classes of integral Cayley graphs over $D_n$. In particular, we completely determine all integral Cayley graphs over the dihedral group $D_p$ for a prime $p$.

Note on the index conjecture in zero-sum theory and its connection to a Dedekind-type sum
Published • View PublicationBIB
Let $S=(a_1)\cdots(a_k)$ be a minimal zero-sum sequence over a finite cyclic group $G$. The index conjecture states that if $k=4$ and $\gcd(|G|,6)=1$, then $S$ has index 1. In this note we study the index conjecture and connect it to a Dedekind-type sum. In particular we reprove a special case of the conjecture when $|G|$ is prime.

Odd length for even hyperoctahedral groups and signed generating functions
Published • View PublicationBIB
We define a new statistic on the even hyperoctahedral groups which is a natural analogue of the odd length statistic recently defined and studied on Coxeter groups of types $A$ and $B$. We compute the signed (by length) generating function of this statistic over the whole group and over its maximal and some other quotients and show that it always factors nicely. We also present some conjectures.

Combinatorial descriptions of the crystal structure on certain PBW bases
Published in Transform. Groups 23 (2018), no. 2, 501-525 • View PublicationBIB
Using the theory of PBW bases, one can realize the crystal $B(\infty)$ for any semisimple Lie algebra over $\mathbf{C}$ using Kostant partitions as the underlying set. In fact there are many such realizations, one for each reduced expression for the longest element of the Weyl group. There is an algorithm to calculate the actions of the crystal operators, but it can be quite complicated. Here we show that, for certain reduced expressions, the crystal operators can also be described by a much simpler bracketing rule. We give conditions describing these reduced expressions, and show that there is at least one example in every type except possibly $E_8$, $F_4$ and $G_2$. We then discuss some examples.

Filters in the partition lattice
Published • View PublicationBIB
Given a filter $Δ$ in the poset of compositions of $n$, we form the filter $Π^{*}_Δ$ in the partition lattice. We determine all the reduced homology groups of the order complex of $Π^{*}_Δ$ as ${\mathfrak S}_{n-1}$-modules in terms of the reduced homology groups of the simplicial complex $Δ$ and in terms of Specht modules of border shapes. We also obtain the homotopy type of this order complex. These results generalize work of Calderbank--Hanlon--Robinson and Wachs on the $d$-divisible partition lattice. Our main theorem applies to a plethora of examples, including filters associated to integer knapsack partitions and filters generated by all partitions having block sizes $a$ or~$b$. We also obtain the reduced homology groups of the filter generated by all partitions having block sizes belonging to the arithmetic progression $a, a + d, \ldots, a + (a-1) \cdot d$, extending work of Browdy.

Highlights from "The Ramanujan Property for Simplicial Complexes" [arXiv:1605.02664]
This paper brings the main definitions and results from "The Ramanujan Property for Simplicial Complexes" [arXiv:1605.02664]. No proofs are given. Given a simplicial complex $\mathcal{X}$ and a group $G$ acting on $\mathcal{X}$, we define Ramanujan quotients of $\mathcal{X}$. For $G$ and $\mathcal{X}$ suitably chosen this recovers Ramanujan $k$-regular graphs and Ramanujan complexes in the sense of Lubotzky, Samuels and Vishne. Deep results in automorphic representations are used to give new examples of Ramanujan quotients when $\mathcal{X}$ is the affine building of an inner form of $\mathbf{GL}_n$ over a local field of positive characteristic.

Matching and Independence Complexes Related to Small Grids
Published • View PublicationBIB
The topology of the matching complex for the $2\times n$ grid graph is mysterious. We describe a discrete Morse matching for a family of independence complexes $\mathrm{Ind}(Δ_n^m)$ that include these matching complexes. Using this matching, we determine the dimensions of the chain spaces for the resulting Morse complexes and derive bounds on the location of non-trivial homology groups for certain $\mathrm{Ind}(Δ_n^m)$. Further, we determine the Euler characteristic of $\mathrm{Ind}(Δ_n^m)$ and prove that several homology groups of $\mathrm{Ind}(Δ_n^m)$ are non-zero.

Discrete solitons in infinite reduced words
Published • View PublicationBIB
We consider a discrete dynamical system where the roles of the states and the carrier are played by translations in an affine Weyl group of type $A$. The Coxeter generators are enriched by parameters, and the interactions with the carrier are realized using Lusztig's braid move $(a,b,c) \mapsto (bc/(a+c), a+c, ab/(a+c))$. We use wiring diagrams on a cylinder to interpret chamber variables as $τ$-functions. This allows us to realize our systems as reductions of the Hirota bilinear difference equation and thus obtain $N$-soliton solutions.

Arrangements of ideal type
In 2006 Sommers and Tymoczko defined so called arrangements of ideal type A_I stemming from ideals I in the set of positive roots of a reduced root system. They showed in a case by case argument that A_I is free if the root system is of classical type or G_2 and conjectured that this is also the case for all types. This was established only recently in a uniform manner by Abe, Barakat, Cuntz, Hoge and Terao. The set of non-zero exponents of the free arrangement A_I is given by the dual of the height partition of the roots in the complement of I in the set of positive roots, generalizing the Shapiro-Steinberg-Kostant theorem. Our first aim in this paper is to investigate a stronger freeness property of the A_I. We show that all A_I are inductively free, with the possible exception of some cases in type E_8. In the same paper, Sommers and Tymoczko define a Poincaré polynomial I(t) associated with each ideal I which generalizes the Poincaré polynomial W(t) for the underlying Weyl group W. Solomon showed that W(t) satisfies a product decomposition depending on the exponents of W for any Coxeter group W. Sommers and Tymoczko showed in a case by case analysis in type A, B and C, and some small rank exceptional types that a similar factorization property holds for the Poincaré polynomials I(t) generalizing the formula of Solomon for W(t). They conjectured that their multiplicative formula for I(t) holds in all types. Here we show that this conjecture holds inductively in almost all instances.

Critical groups of group representations
Published in Linear Algebra and its Applications 508 (2016) 91-99 • View PublicationBIB
This paper investigates the critical group of a faithful representation of a finite group. It computes the order of the critical group in terms of the character values, and gives some restrictions on its subgroup structure. It also computes the precise structure of the critical group both for the regular representation of any finite group, and for the reflection representation of the symmetric group.
