Atomic decomposition for an affine Weyl group of type $G_2$
We show that the elements of the Kazhdan--Lusztig basis of the spherical Hecke algebra of type $G_2$ have an atomic decomposition. As a by-product, we obtain a new algorithm to compute generalized Kostka--Foulkes polynomials in type $G_2$.
Non-archimedean Infinite Hecke Algebra
We study the representation theory of the infinite type A Hecke algebra over a non-Archimedean field in the case where the parameter is a pseudo-uniformizer. Specifically, we consider a family of representations, called almost-symmetric, which satisfy additional topological and algebraic constraints. We give a full classification of the irreducible almost-symmetric representations. These turn out to be indexed by integer partitions arising as topological completions of specific direct limits of Hecke-Specht modules. We give detailed analysis of these representations and construct functionals analogous to finite Hecke algebra traces.
A positivity property in the based ring of the lowest two-sided cell
Let $W_{\mathrm{aff}}$ be an extended affine Weyl group and $\mathbf{H}$ and $J$ be the corresponding affine and asymptotic Hecke algebras with standard bases $\{T_x\}$ and $\{t_w\}$, respectively. Viewing $J$ as a subalgebra of the $\mathbf{q}^{-\frac{1}{2}}$-adic completion of $\mathbf{H}$, we give formulas for the coefficient of $T_x$ in $t_w$ for various $x$ and $w$ in the lowest two-sided cell, in terms of generalized exponents of the Langlands dual group, under a hypothesis on the left cell containing $w$. In particular our results hold for the canonical left cell. For such $w$ we also define a seemingly new positive basis for the corresponding subring of $J$. For $\mathrm{GL}_n$, we give partial results for some other cells.
Characterization of the unit object in localized quantum unipotent category
For the quiver Hecke algebra $R$, let $R\hbox{-gmod}$ be the category of finite-dimensional graded $R$-modules, and let $\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]}$ be the localization of $R\hbox{-gmod}$. Kashiwara and the second author showed the set of equivalence classes of simple objects up to grading shifts $\mathrm{Irr}(\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]})$ in $\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]}$ has a crystal structure, and $\mathrm{Irr}(\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]})$ is isomorphic to the so-called cellular crystal $\mathbb B_{\mathbf i}$. This isomorphism induces a function $\varepsilon_i^*$ on $\mathbb B_{\mathbf i}$. We give an explicit formula of $\varepsilon_i^*$, and using this formula, we give a characterization of the unit object of $\widetilde{R\hbox{-gmod}[w]}$ for the case of classical finite types.
An orthogonal bimodule decomposition of quantized tensor space realizing Jimbo's Schur--Weyl duality
Consider the vector representation $V_q$ of the quantized enveloping algebra $\mathbf{U}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$. For $q$ generic, Jimbo showed that $q$-tensor space $V_q^{\otimes r}$ satisfies Schur--Weyl duality for the commuting actions of $\mathbf{U}_q(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ and the Iwahori--Hecke algebra $\mathbf{H}_q(\mathfrak{S}_r)$, with the latter action derived from the $R$-matrix. In the limit as $q \to 1$, one recovers classical Schur--Weyl duality.
We give a combinatorial realization of the corresponding isotypic semisimple decomposition of $V_q^{\otimes r}$ indexed by paths in the Bratteli diagram. This extends earlier work (\emph{Journal of Algebra} 2024) of the first two authors for the $n=2$ case. Our construction works over any field containing a non-zero element $q$ which is not a root of unity.
Residue Formulae for the Trace on Affine Hecke Algebras
Motivated by recent advances in Catalan combinatorics, we study special values of the standard trace on affine Hecke algebras. Starting from a generating function for this trace calculated by Opdam, we use the theory of Szenes and Vergne to obtain residue formulae for the trace. This allows us to derive a product formula for the trace of translation elements corresponding to weights in certain ``Big Chambers'' of the positive root cone.
A combinatorial formula for Interpolation Macdonald polynomials
In 1996, Knop and Sahi introduced a remarkable family of inhomogeneous symmetric polynomials, defined via vanishing conditions, whose top homogeneous parts are exactly the Macdonald polynomials. Like the Macdonald polynomials, these interpolation Macdonald polynomials are closely connected to the Hecke algebra, and admit nonsymmetric versions, which generalize the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. In this paper we give a combinatorial formula for interpolation Macdonald polynomials in terms of signed multiline queues; this formula generalizes the combinatorial formula for Macdonald polynomials in terms of multiline queues given by Corteel-Mandelshtam-Williams.
Representation Theory of $0$-Schur Algebras and Related Categories
Jensen, Su, and Yang described the projective indecomposable modules of the $0$-Schur algebra $\mathbf{S}_0(n,r)$ using its geometric realization. In this paper, the simple modules of $\mathbf{S}_0(n,r)$ are identified by computing the tops of the projective indecomposable modules. Furthermore, functorial relations among the module categories $\mathbf{H}_r(0)$\textsf{-mod}, $\mathbf{S}_0(n,r)$\textsf{-mod}, and $U_0(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$\textsf{-mod} are examined, where $\mathbf{H}_r(0)$ denotes the $0$-Hecke algebra and $U_0(\mathfrak{gl}_n)$ denotes the degenerate quantum group.
Level-Rank Dualities for Finite Reductive Groups
This is an extended abstract of our work "Level-Rank Dualities from $Φ$-Cuspidal Pairs..." We present evidence for a family of surprising coincidences within the representation theory of a finite reductive group $G$: more precisely, dualities between blocks of cyclotomic Hecke algebras attached by Broué-Malle to $Φ$-cuspidal pairs of $G$, where the Hecke parameters are specialized not to the order of the underlying finite field, but to roots of unity. For the groups $G = \mathrm{GL}_n(\mathbf{F}_q)$, these coincidences can be expressed very concretely in terms of the combinatorics of partitions, and the whole story recovers an avatar of the level-rank duality studied by Frenkel, Uglov, Chuang-Miyachi, and others.
A generalization of Deodhar's defect statistic for Iwahori--Hecke algebras of type $BC$
Let $H$ be the Iwahori--Hecke algebra corresponding to any Coxeter group. Deodhar's defect statistic [Geom. Dedicata 36, (1990) pp.95--119] allows one to expand products of simple Kazhdan--Lusztig basis elements of $H$ in the natural basis of $H$. Clearwater and the third author gave a type-$A$ extension [Ann. Comb. 25, no. 3 (2021) pp.757--787] of this formula which combinatorially describes the natural expansion of products of Kazhdan--Lusztig basis elements indexed by smooth elements of the symmetric group. We similarly give a type-$BC$ extension of Deodhar's result which combinatorially describes the natural expansion of Kazhdan--Lusztig basis elements indexed by hyperoctahedral group elements which are simultaneously smooth in types $B$ and $C$.
Quantum $\mathfrak{gl}$-weight system and its average values
We present a proof of a recent conjecture due to M. Kazarian, E. Krasilnikov, S. Lando, and M. Shapiro, which describes the average value of the universal $\mathfrak{gl}$-weight system on permutations. The proof uses a quantum analogue of the $\mathfrak{gl}$-weight system on Hecke algebras of type $A$, which leads to a one-parameter deformation of the average value of the universal ${\mathfrak{gl}}$-weight system. We show that the average value of the quantum weight system is a linear combination of one-part Schur functions, with coefficients being $q$-analogues of Bernoulli polynomials.
Dimensions of compositions modulo a prime
The (ordinary) representation theory of the symmetric group is fascinating and has rich connections to combinatorics, including the Frobenius correspondence to the self-dual graded Hopf algebra of symmetric functions. The $0$-Hecke algebra (of type $A$) is a deformation of the group algebra of the symmetric group, and its representation theory has an analogous correspondence to the dual graded Hopf algebras of quasisymmetric functions and noncommutative symmetric functions. Macdonald used the hook length formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a fixed shape to determine how many irreducible representations of the symmetric group have dimensions indivisible by a prime $p$. In this paper, we study the dimensions of the projective indecomposable modules of the $0$-Hecke algebra modulo $p$; such a module is indexed by a composition and its dimension is given by a ribbon number, i.e., the cardinality of a descent class. Applying a result of Dickson on the congruence of multinomial coefficients, we count how many ribbon numbers belong to each congruence class modulo $p$. We also extend the result to other finite Coxeter groups.
Factorizations in Hecke algebras I: long cycle factorizations and Jucys-Murphy elements
Given a permutation, there is a well-developed literature studying the number of ways one can factor it into a product of other permutations subject to certain conditions. We initiate the analogous theory for the type A Iwahori-Hecke algebra by generalizing the notion of factorization in terms of the Jucys-Murphy elements. Some of the oldest and most foundational factorization results for the symmetric groups pertain to the long cycle. Our main results give q-deformations of these long cycle factorizations and reveal q-binomial, q-Catalan, and q-Narayana numbers along the way.
Quantum Littlewood correspondences
In the 1940s Littlewood formulated three fundamental correspondences for the immanants and Schur symmetric functions on the general linear group, which establish deep connections between representation theory of the symmetric group and the general linear group parallel to the Schur-Weyl duality. In this paper, we introduce the notion of quantum immanants in the quantum coordinate algebra using primitive idempotents of the Hecke algebra. By employing $R$-matrix techniques, we establish the quantum analog of Littlewood correspondences between quantum immanants and Schur functions for the quantum coordinate algebra. In the setting of the Schur-Weyl-Jimbo duality, we construct an exact correspondence between the Gelfand-Tsetlin bases of the irreducible representations of the quantum enveloping algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{gl}(n))$ and Young's orthonormal basis of an irreducible representation of the Hecke algebra $\mathcal H_m$. This isomorphism leads to our trace formula for the quantum immanants, which settled the generalization problem
of $q$-analog of Kostant's formular for $λ$-immanants. As applications, we also derive general $q$-Littlewood-Merris-Watkins identities and $q$-Goulden-Jackson identities as special cases of the quantum Littlewood correspondence III.
Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for the cyclotomic Hecke algebra and applications
We derive a Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for irreducible characters of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra on certain standard elements, which fully determine their values. This work builds upon our recent multi-parameter Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for Macdonald polynomials. Our Murnaghan-Nakayama rule can be readily specialized to retrieve various existing rules, including those for the complex reflection group of type $G(m, 1, n)$ and the Iwahori-Hecke algebra in types $A$ and $B$. In a dual picture, we establish an iterative formula for the irreducible characters on upper multipartitions, utilizing the vertex operator realization of Schur functions.
As applications we derive an Regev-type formula and an Lübeck-Prasad-Adin-Roichman-type formula for the cyclotomic Hecke algebra, thereby extending the corresponding formulas for the Iwahori-Hecke algebra in type $A$ and the complex reflection group of type $G(m,1,n)$ to the setting of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra, respectively. Finally, we introduce the notion of the multiple bitrace of the cyclotomic Hecke algebra to formulate the second orthogonal relation of the irreducible characters. We also provide a general combinatorial rule to compute the multiple bitrace.
$(q,t)$-chromatic symmetric functions
By using level one polynomial representations of affine Hecke algebras of type $A$, we obtain a $(q,t)$-analogue of the chromatic symmetric functions of unit interval graphs which generalizes Syu Kato's formula for the chromatic symmetric functions of unit interval graphs. We show that at $q=1$, the $(q,t)$-chromatic symmetric functions essentially reduce to the chromatic quasisymmetric functions defined by Shareshian-Wachs, which in particular gives an algebraic proof of Kato's formula. We also give an explicit formula of the $(q,t)$-chromatic symmetric functions at $q=\infty$, which leads to a probability theoretic interpretation of $e$-expansion coefficients of chromatic quasisymmetric functions used in our proof of the Stanley-Stembridge conjecture.
Moreover, we observe that the $(q,t)$-chromatic symmetric functions are multiplicative with respect to certain deformed multiplication on the ring of symmetric functions. We give a simple description of such multiplication in terms of the affine Hecke algebras of type $A$. We also obtain a recipe to produce $(q,t)$-chromatic symmetric functions from chromatic quasisymmetric functions, which actually makes sense for any oriented graphs.
Cell Classification of Gelfand $S_n$-Graphs
Kazhdan and Lusztig introduced the $W$-graphs, which represent the multiplication action of the standard basis on the canonical bais in the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. In the Hecke algebra module, Marberg defined two generalied $W$-graphs, called the Gelfand $W$-graphs. The classification of the molecules of the type $A$ Gelfand $S_n$-graphs are determined by two RSK-like insertion algorithms. We finish the classification of cells by proving that every molecule in the $S_n$-graphs is indeed a cell.
The $q$-deformed random-to-random family in the Hecke algebra
We generalize Reiner--Saliola--Welker's well-known but mysterious family of *$k$-random-to-random shuffles* from Markov chains on symmetric groups to Markov chains on the Type-$A$ Iwahori--Hecke algebras. We prove that the family of operators pairwise commutes and has eigenvalues that are polynomials in $q$ with non-negative integer coefficients. Our work generalizes work of Reiner--Saliola--Welker and Lafrenière for the symmetric group, and simplifies all known proofs in this case.
Dual Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for Hecke algebras in Type $A$
Let $χ^λ_μ$ be the value of the irreducible character $χ^λ$ of the Hecke algebra of the symmetric group on the conjugacy class of type $μ$. The usual Murnaghan-Nakayama rule provides an iterative algorithm based on reduction of the lower partition $μ$. In this paper, we establish a dual Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for Hecke algebras of type $A$ using vertex operators by applying reduction to the upper partition $λ$. We formulate an explicit recursion of the dual Murnaghan-Nakayama rule by employing the combinatorial model of ``brick tabloids", which refines a previous result by two of us (J. Algebra 598 (2022), 24--47).
Higher Rank Macdonald Polynomials
In this paper, we introduce higher rank generalizations of Macdonald polynomials. The higher rank non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials are Laurent polynomials in several sets of variables which form weight bases for higher rank polynomial representations of double affine Hecke algebras with respect to higher rank Cherednik operators. We prove that these polynomials satisfy generalized versions of the classical Knop--Sahi relations and we give combinatorial descriptions of their weights. The higher rank symmetric Macdonald polynomials are defined as Hecke-symmetrizations of the higher rank non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials and form eigenbases for the spaces of Hecke-invariant higher rank polynomials with respect to generalized finite variable Macdonald operators. We prove that the higher rank symmetric Macdonald polynomials satisfy stability properties allowing for the construction of infinite variable limits. These higher rank symmetric Macdonald functions form eigenbases for certain representations of the (positive) elliptic Hall algebra with respect to generalized infinite variable Macdonald operators. Lastly, we show that the higher rank polynomial representations may be used to construct higher rank polynomial representations of the double Dyck path algebra.
