This paper gives another proof of Propp and Roby's theorem saying that the average antichain size in any reverse operator orbit of the poset $[m]\times [n]$ is $\frac{mn}{m+n}$. It is conceivable that our method should work for other situations. As a demonstration, we show that the average size of antichains in any reverse operator orbit of $[m]\times K_{n-1}$ equals $\frac{2mn}{m+2n-1}$. Here $K_{n-1}$ is the minuscule poset $[n-1]\oplus ([1] \sqcup [1]) \oplus [n-1]$. Note that $[m]\times [n]$ and $[m]\times K_{n-1}$ can be interpreted as sub-families of certain root posets. We guess these root posets should provide a unified setting to exhibit the homomesy phenomenon defined by Propp and Roby.

In certain finite posets, the expected down-degree of their elements is the same whether computed with respect to either the uniform distribution or the distribution weighting an element by the number of maximal chains passing through it. We show that this coincidence of expectations holds for Cartesian products of chains, connected minuscule posets, weak Bruhat orders on finite Coxeter groups, certain lower intervals in Young's lattice, and certain lower intervals in the weak Bruhat order below dominant permutations. Our tools involve formulas for counting nearly reduced factorizations in 0-Hecke algebras; that is, factorizations that are one letter longer than the Coxeter group length.

We say two posets are "doppelgängers" if they have the same number of $P$-partitions of each height $k$. We give a uniform framework for bijective proofs that posets are doppelgängers by synthesizing $K$-theoretic Schubert calculus techniques of H. Thomas and A. Yong with M. Haiman's rectification bijection and an observation of R. Proctor. Geometrically, these bijections reflect the rational equivalence of certain subvarieties of minuscule flag manifolds. As a special case, we provide the first bijective proof of a 1983 theorem of R. Proctor---that plane partitions of height $k$ in a rectangle are equinumerous with plane partitions of height $k$ in a trapezoid.

Two classes of avalanche-finite matrices and their critical groups (integer cokernels) are studied from the viewpoint of chip-firing/sandpile dynamics, namely, the Cartan matrices of finite root systems and the McKay-Cartan matrices for finite subgroups G of general linear groups. In the root system case, the recurrent and superstable configurations are identified explicitly and are related to minuscule dominant weights. In the McKay-Cartan case for finite subgroups of the special linear group, the cokernel is related to the abelianization of the subgroup G. In the special case of the classical McKay correspondence, the critical group and the abelianization are shown to be isomorphic.
On Orbits of Order Ideals of Minuscule Posets II: Homomesy
The Fon-Der-Flaass action partitions the order ideals of a poset into disjoint orbits. For a product of two chains, Propp and Roby observed --- across orbits --- the mean cardinality of the order ideals within an orbit to be invariant. That this phenomenon, which they christened homomesy, extends to all minuscule posets is shown herein.
Given a minuscule poset $P$, there exists a complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and a representation $V$ of $\mathfrak{g}$ such that the lattice of order ideals of $P$ coincides with the weight lattice of $V$. For a weight $μ$ with corresponding order ideal $I$, it is demonstrated that the behavior of the Weyl group simple reflections on $μ$ not only uniquely determines $μ$, but also encodes the cardinality of $I$. After recourse to work of Rush and Shi mapping the anatomy of the lattice isomorphism, the upshot is a uniform proof that the cardinality statistic exhibits homomesy.
A further application of these ideas shows that the statistic tracking the number of maximal elements in an order ideal is also homomesic, extending another result of Propp and Roby.

Minuscule Schubert varieties: Poset polytopes, PBW-degenerated Demazure modules, and Kogan faces

We study a family of posets and the associated chain and order polytopes. We identify the order polytope as a maximal Kogan face in a Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope of a multiple of a fundamental weight. We show that the character of such a Kogan face equals to the character of a Demazure module which occurs in the irreducible representation of $\mathfrak{sl}_n$ having highest weight multiple of fundamental weight and for any such Demazure module there exists a corresponding poset and associated maximal Kogan face. We prove that the chain polytope parametrizes a monomial basis of the associated PBW-graded Demazure module and further, that the Demazure module is a favourable module, e.g. interesting geometric properties are governed by combinatorics of convex polytopes. Thus, we obtain for any minuscule Schubert variety a flat degeneration into a toric projective variety which is projectively normal and arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition on the Weyl group element such that the toric variety associated to the chain polytope and the toric variety associated to the order polytope are isomorphic.
Non-Archimedean Whittaker functions as characters: a probabilistic approach to the Shintani-Casselman-Shalika formula

For a reductive group $G$ over a non-Archimedean local field (e.g $GL_n( \mathbb{Q}_p )$ ), Jacquet's Whittaker function is essentially proportional to a character of an irreducible representation of the Langlands dual group $G^\vee( \mathbb{C} )$ ( a Schur function if $G = GL_n( \mathbb{Q}_p )$). We propose a probabilistic approach to this claim, known as the Shintani-Casselman-Shalika formula, when the group $G$ has at least one minuscule cocharacter in the coweight lattice.
Our presentation goes along the following lines. Thanks to a minuscule random walk $W^{(z)}$ on the coweight lattice and a related random walk on the Borel subgroup, we establish a Poisson kernel formula for the non-Archimedean Whittaker function. The expression and its ingredients are similar to the one previously obtained by the author in the Archimedean case. A simple manipulation reduces the problem to evaluating the probability of $W^{(z)}$ never exiting the Weyl chamber. Then, an implementation of the reflection principle forces the appearance of the Weyl character formula and therefore retrieves characters of $G^\vee\left( \mathbb{C} \right)$.
The construction of the random walk on the Borel subgroup requires some care. It is extracted from a spherical random walk whose increments have a distribution that can be understood as elements from the spherical Hecke algebra.
On singularities of lattice varieties
Toric varieties associated with distributive lattices arise as a fibre of a flat degeneration of a Schubert variety in a minuscule. The singular locus of these varieties has been studied by various authors. In this article we prove that the number of diamonds incident on a lattice point $\a$ in a product of chain lattices is more than or equal to the codimension of the lattice. Using this we also show that the lattice varieties associated with product of chain lattices is smooth.

We study root-theoretic Young diagrams to investigate the existence of a Lie-type uniform and nonnegative combinatorial rule for Schubert calculus. We provide formulas for (co)adjoint varieties of classical Lie type. This is a simplest case after the (co)minuscule family (where a rule has been proved by H.Thomas and the second author using work of R.Proctor). Our results build on earlier Pieri-type rules of P.Pragacz-J.Ratajski and of A.Buch-A.Kresch-H.Tamvakis. Specifically, our formula for OG(2,2n) is the first complete rule for a case where diagrams are non-planar. Yet the formulas possess both uniform and non-uniform features. Using these classical type rules, as well as results of P.-E.Chaput-N.Perrin in the exceptional types, we suggest a connection between polytopality of the set of nonzero Schubert structure constants and planarity of the diagrams. This is an addition to work of A.Klyachko and A.Knutson-T.Tao on the Grassmannian and of K.Purbhoo-F.Sottile on cominuscule varieties, where the diagrams are always planar.

Based on Thomas and Yong's K-theoretic jeu de taquin algorithm, we prove a uniform Littlewood-Richardson rule for the K-theoretic Schubert structure constants of all minuscule homogeneous spaces. Our formula is new in all types. For the main examples of Grassmannians of type A and maximal orthogonal Grassmannians it has the advantage that the tableaux to be counted can be recognized without reference to the jeu de taquin algorithm.

We consider smooth complete intersection Calabi-Yau 3-folds in minuscule Schubert varieties, and study their mirror symmetry by degenerating the ambient Schubert varieties to Hibi toric varieties. We list all possible Calabi-Yau 3-folds of this type up to deformation equivalences, and find a new example of smooth Calabi-Yau 3-folds of Picard number one; a complete intersection in a locally factorial Schubert variety ${\boldsymbolΣ}$ of the Cayley plane ${\mathbb{OP}}^2$. We calculate topological invariants and BPS numbers of this Calabi-Yau 3-fold and conjecture that it has a non-trivial Fourier-Mukai partner.

We study rotation of invariant vectors in tensor products of minuscule representations. We define a combinatorial notion of rotation of minuscule Littelmann paths. Using affine Grassmannians, we show that this rotation action is realized geometrically as rotation of components of the Satake fibre. As a consequence, we have a basis for invariant spaces which is permuted by rotation (up to global sign). Finally, we diagonalize the rotation operator by showing that its eigenspaces are given by intersection homology of quiver varieties. As a consequence, we generalize Rhoades' work on the cyclic sieving phenomenon.

Let g be a complex finite-dimensional simple Lie algebra. Given a positive integer k and a dominant weight λ, we define a preorder on the set $P(λ, k)$ of k-tuples of dominant weights which add up to λ. Let $P(λ, k)/\sim$ be the corresponding poset of equivalence classes defined by the preorder. We show that if λis a multiple of a fundamental weight (and k is general) or if k=2 (and λis general), then $P(λ, k)/\sim$ coincides with the set of S_k-orbits in $P(λ,k)$, where S_k acts on $P(λ, k)$ as the permutations of components. If g is of type A_n and k=2, we show that the S_2-orbit of the row shuffle defined by Fomin et al is the unique maximal element in the poset.
Given an element of $P(λ, k)$, consider the tensor product of the corresponding simple finite-dimensional g-modules. We show that (for general g, λ, and k) the dimension of this tensor product increases along with the partial order.
We also show that in the case when λis a multiple of a fundamental minuscule weight (g and k are general) or if g is of type A_2 and k=2 (λis general), there exists an inclusion of tensor products of g-modules along with the partial order. In particular, if g is of type A_n, this means that the difference of the characters is Schur positive.

The maximum cut problem for a quintic del Pezzo surface ${\rm Bl}_{4}(\mathbb{P}^2)$ asks: Among all partitions of the 10 exceptional curves into two disjoint sets, what is the largest possible number of pairwise intersections? In this article we show that the answer is twelve. More generally, we obtain bounds for the maximum cut problem for the minuscule varieties $X_{a,b,c}:={\rm Bl}_{b+c}(\mathbb{P}^{c-1})^{a-1}$ studied by Mukai and Castravet-Tevelev and show that these bounds are asymptotically sharp for infinite families. We prove our results by constructing embeddings of the classes of $(-1)$-divisors on these varieties which are optimal for the semidefinite relaxation of the maximum cut problem on graphs proposed by Goemans and Williamson. These results give a new optimality property of the Weyl orbits of root systems of type $A$,$D$ and $E$.

An action on order ideals of posets considered by Fon-Der-Flaass is analyzed in the case of posets arising from minuscule representations of complex simple Lie algebras. For these minuscule posets, it is shown that the Fon-Der-Flaass action exhibits the cyclic sieving phenomenon, as defined by Reiner, Stanton, and White. A uniform proof is given by investigation of a bijection due to Stembridge between order ideals of minuscule posets and fully commutative Weyl group elements. This bijection is proven to be equivariant with respect to a conjugate of the Fon-Der-Flaass action and an arbitrary Coxeter element.
If $P$ is a minuscule poset, it is shown that the Fon-Der-Flaass action on order ideals of the Cartesian product $P \times [2]$ also exhibits the cyclic sieving phenomenon, only the proof is by appeal to the classification of minuscule posets and is not uniform.
Quantum cohomology and the Satake isomorphism
We prove that the geometric Satake correspondence admits quantum corrections for minuscule Grassmannians of Dynkin types $A$ and $D$. We find, as a corollary, that the quantum connection of a spinor variety $OG(n,2n)$ can be obtained as the half-spinorial representation of that of the quadric $Q_{2n-2}$. We view the (quantum) cohomology of these Grassmannians as endowed simultaneously with two structures, one of a module over the algebra of symmetric functions, and the other, of a module over the Langlands dual Lie algebra, and investigate the interaction between the two. In particular, we study primitive classes $y$ in the cohomology of a minuscule Grassmannian $G/P$ that are characterized by the condition that the operator of cup product by $y$ is in the image of the Lie algebra action. Our main result states that quantum correction preserves primitivity. We provide a quantum counterpart to a result obtained by V. Ginzburg in the classical setting by giving explicit formulas for the quantum corrections to homogeneous primitive elements.

We present an explicit difference operator diagonalized by the Macdonald polynomials associated with an (arbitrary) admissible pair of irreducible reduced crystallographic root systems. By the duality symmetry, this gives rise to an explicit Pieri formula for the Macdonald polynomials in question. The simplest examples of our construction recover Macdonald's celebrated difference operators and associated Pieri formulas pertaining to the minuscule and quasi-minuscule weights. As further by-products, explicit expansions and Littlewood-Richardson type formulas are obtained for the Macdonald polynomials associated with a special class of small weights.
Projections of Richardson Varieties

While the projections of Schubert varieties in a full generalized flag manifold G/B to a partial flag manifold $G/P$ are again Schubert varieties, the projections of Richardson varieties (intersections of Schubert varieties with opposite Schubert varieties) are not always Richardson varieties. The stratification of G/P by projections of Richardson varieties arises in the theory of total positivity and also from Poisson and noncommutative geometry.
In this paper we show that many of the geometric properties of Richardson varieties hold more generally for projected Richardson varieties; they are normal, Cohen-Macaulay, have rational singularities, and are compatibly Frobenius split with respect to the standard splitting. Indeed, we show that the projected Richardson varieties are the only compatibly split subvarieties, providing an example of the recent theorem [Schwede, Kumar-Mehta] that a Frobenius split scheme has only finitely many compatibly split subvarieties. (The G/B case was treated by [Hague], whose proof we simplify somewhat.)
One combinatorial analogue of a Richardson variety is the order complex of the corresponding Bruhat interval in W; this complex is known to be an EL-shellable ball [Bjorner-Wachs '82]. We prove that the projection of such a complex into the order complex of the Bruhat order on W/W_P is again a shellable ball. This requires extensive analysis of "P-Bruhat order", a generalization of the k-Bruhat order of [Bergeron-Sottile '98]. In the case that G/P is minuscule (e.g. a Grassmannian), we show that its Grobner degeneration takes each projected Richardson variety to the Stanley-Reisner scheme of its corresponding ball.
