Higher Order Turán Inequalities for the Partition Function

The Turán inequalities and the higher order Turán inequalities arise in the study of Maclaurin coefficients of an entire function in the Laguerre-Pólya class. A real sequence $\{a_{n}\}$ is said to satisfy the Turán inequalities if for $n\geq 1$, $a_n^2-a_{n-1}a_{n+1}\geq 0$. It is said to satisfy the higher order Turán inequalities if for $n\geq 1$, $4(a_{n}^2-a_{n-1}a_{n+1})(a_{n+1}^2-a_{n}a_{n+2})-(a_{n}a_{n+1}-a_{n-1}a_{n+2})^2\geq 0$. A sequence satisfying the Turán inequalities is also called log-concave. For the partition function $p(n)$, DeSalvo and Pak showed that for $n>25$, the sequence $\{ p(n)\}_{n> 25}$ is log-concave, that is, $p(n)^2-p(n-1)p(n+1)>0$ for $n> 25$. It was conjectured by Chen that $p(n)$ satisfies the higher order Turán inequalities for $n\geq 95$. In this paper, we prove this conjecture by using the Hardy-Ramanujan-Rademacher formula to derive an upper bound and a lower bound for $p(n+1)p(n-1)/p(n)^2$. Consequently, for $n\geq 95$, the Jensen polynomials $g_{3,n-1}(x)=p(n-1)+3p(n)x+3p(n+1)x^2+p(n+2)x^3$ have only real zeros. We conjecture that for any positive integer $m\geq 4$ there exists an integer $N(m)$ such that for $n\geq N(m) $, the polynomials $\sum_{k=0}^m {m\choose k}p(n+k)x^k$ have only real zeros. This conjecture was independently posed by Ono.

Inspired by Andrews' 2-colored generalized Frobenius partitions, we consider certain weighted 7-colored partition functions and establish some interesting Ramanujan-type identities and congruences. Moreover, we provide combinatorial interpretations of some congruences modulo 5 and 7. Finally, we study the properties of weighted 7-colored partitions weighted by the parity of certain partition statistics.

Given complex numbers $w_1, \ldots, w_n$, we define the weight $w(X)$ of a set $X$ of 0-1 vectors as the sum of $w_1^{x_1} \cdots w_n^{x_n}$ over all vectors $(x_1, \ldots, x_n)$ in $X$. We present an algorithm, which for a set $X$ defined by a system of homogeneous linear equations with at most $r$ variables per equation and at most $c$ equations per variable, computes $w(X)$ within relative error $ε>0$ in $(rc)^{O(\ln n-\ln ε)}$ time provided $|w_j| \leq β(r \sqrt{c})^{-1}$ for an absolute constant $β>0$ and all $j=1, \ldots, n$. A similar algorithm is constructed for computing the weight of a linear code over ${\Bbb F}_p$. Applications include counting weighted perfect matchings in hypergraphs, counting weighted graph homomorphisms, computing weight enumerators of linear codes with sparse code generating matrices, and computing the partition functions of the ferromagnetic Potts model at low temperatures and of the hard-core model at high fugacity on biregular bipartite graphs.
New Factor Pairs for Factorizations of Lambert Series Generating Functions
We prove several new variants of the Lambert series factorization theorem established in the first article "Generating special arithmetic functions by Lambert series factorizations" by Merca and Schmidt (2017). Several characteristic examples of our new results are presented in the article to motivate the formulations of the generalized factorization theorems. Applications of these new factorization results include new identities involving the Euler partition function and the generalized sum-of-divisors functions, the Möbius function, Euler's totient function, the Liouville lambda function, von Mangoldt's lambda function, and the Jordan totient function.
Tutte Polynomials of Symmetric Hyperplane Arrangements
Originally in 1954 the Tutte polynomial was a bivariate polynomial associated to a graph in order to enumerate the colorings of this graph and of its dual graph at the same time. However the Tutte polynomial reveals more of the internal structure of a graph, and contains even other specializations from other sciences like the Jones polynomial in Knot theory, the partition function of the Pott model in statistical physics, and the reliability polynomial in network theory. In this article, we study the Tutte polynomial associated to more general objects which are the arrangements of hyperplanes. Indeed determining the Tutte polynomial of a graph is equivalent to determining the Tutte polynomial of a special hyperplane arrangement called graphic arrangement. In 2007 Ardila computed the Tutte polynomials of the hyperplane arrangements associated to the classical Weyl groups, and the characteristic polynomials of the Catalan arrangements. The charateristic polynomial is also a specialization of the Tutte polynomial. In 2012 Seo computed the characteristic polynomials of the Shi threshold arrangements, and in 2017 Song computed the characteristic polynomials of the $\mathcal{I}_n$ arrangements in the plane and in the space. We aim to bring a more general result by introducing a wider class of hyperplane arrangements which is the set of symmetric hyperplane arrangements. We compute the Tutte polynomial of a symmetric hyperplane arrangement, and, as examples of application, we deduce the Tutte polynomials of the Catalan, the Shi threshold, and the $\mathcal{I}_n$ arrangements.

We study a discrete dynamic on weighted bipartite graphs on a torus, analogous to dimer integrable systems in Goncharov-Kenyon 2013. The dynamic on the graph is an urban renewal together with shrinking all 2-valent vertices, while it is a cluster transformation on the weight. The graph is not necessary obtained from an integral polygon. We show that all Hamiltonians, partition functions of all weighted perfect matchings with a common homology class, are invariant under a move on the weighted graph. This move coincides with a cluster mutation, analog to Y-seed mutation in dimer integrable systems. We construct graphs for Q-systems of type A and B and show that the Hamiltonians are conserved quantities of the systems. The conserved quantities can be written as partition functions of hard particles on a certain graph. For type A, they Poisson commute under a nondegenerate Poisson bracket.
Tight bounds on the coefficients of partition functions via stability

Partition functions arise in statistical physics and probability theory as the normalizing constant of Gibbs measures and in combinatorics and graph theory as graph polynomials. For instance the partition functions of the hard-core model and monomer-dimer model are the independence and matching polynomials respectively.
We show how stability results follow naturally from the recently developed occupancy method for maximizing and minimizing physical observables over classes of regular graphs, and then show these stability results can be used to obtain tight extremal bounds on the individual coefficients of the corresponding partition functions.
As applications, we prove new bounds on the number of independent sets and matchings of a given size in regular graphs. For large enough graphs and almost all sizes, the bounds are tight and confirm the Upper Matching Conjecture of Friedland, Krop, and Markström and a conjecture of Kahn on independent sets for a wide range of parameters. Additionally we prove tight bounds on the number of $q$-colorings of cubic graphs with a given number of monochromatic edges, and tight bounds on the number of independent sets of a given size in cubic graphs of girth at least $5$.
The Ising Partition Function: Zeros and Deterministic Approximation

We study the problem of approximating the partition function of the ferromagnetic Ising model in graphs and hypergraphs. Our first result is a deterministic approximation scheme (an FPTAS) for the partition function in bounded degree graphs that is valid over the entire range of parameters $β$ (the interaction) and $λ$ (the external field), except for the case $\vertλ\vert=1$ (the "zero-field" case). A randomized algorithm (FPRAS) for all graphs, and all $β,λ$, has long been known. Unlike most other deterministic approximation algorithms for problems in statistical physics and counting, our algorithm does not rely on the "decay of correlations" property. Rather, we exploit and extend machinery developed recently by Barvinok, and Patel and Regts, based on the location of the complex zeros of the partition function, which can be seen as an algorithmic realization of the classical Lee-Yang approach to phase transitions. Our approach extends to the more general setting of the Ising model on hypergraphs of bounded degree and edge size, where no previous algorithms (even randomized) were known for a wide range of parameters. In order to achieve this extension, we establish a tight version of the Lee-Yang theorem for the Ising model on hypergraphs, improving a classical result of Suzuki and Fisher.

We study a one dimensional directed polymer model in an inverse-gamma random environment, known as the log-gamma polymer, in three different geometries: point-to-line, point-to-half line and when the polymer is restricted to a half space with end point lying free on the corresponding half line.Via the use of A.N.Kirillov's geometric Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence, we compute the Laplace transform of the partition functions in the above geometries in terms of orthogonal Whittaker functions, thus obtaining new connections between the ubiquitous class of Whittaker functions and exactly solvable probabilistic models. In the case of the first two geometries we also provide multiple contour integral formulae for the corresponding Laplace transforms. Passing to the zero-temperature limit, we obtain new formulae for the corresponding last passage percolation problems with exponential weights.

Let $F(x)=\prod_{n=0}^{\infty}(1-x^{2^{n}})$ be the generating function for the Prouhet-Thue-Morse sequence $((-1)^{s_{2}(n)})_{n\in\N}$. In this paper we initiate the study of the arithmetic properties of coefficients of the power series expansions of the function $$ F_{t}(x)=F(x)^{t}=\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}f_{n}(t)x^{n}. $$ For $t\in\N_{+}$ the sequence $(f_{n}(t))_{n\in\N}$ is the Cauchy convolution of $t$ copies of the Prouhet-Thue-Morse sequence. For $t\in\Z_{<0}$ the $n$-th term of the sequence $(f_{n}(t))_{n\in\N}$ counts the number of representations of the number $n$ as a sum of powers of 2 where each summand can have one among $-t$ colors.
Among other things, we present a characterization of the solutions of the equations $f_{n}(2^k)=0$, where $k\in\N$, and $f_{n}(3)=0$. Next, we present the exact value of the 2-adic valuation of the number $f_{n}(1-2^{m})$ - a result which generalizes the well known expression concerning the 2-adic valuation of the values of the binary partition function introduced by Euler and studied by Churchhouse and others.

We find explicit formulas for the probabilities of general boundary visit events for planar loop-erased random walks, as well as connectivity events for branches in the uniform spanning tree. We show that both probabilities, when suitably renormalized, converge in the scaling limit to conformally covariant functions which satisfy partial differential equations of second and third order, as predicted by conformal field theory. The scaling limit connectivity probabilities also provide formulas for the pure partition functions of multiple $\mathrm{SLE}_κ$ at $κ=2$.
On the poset and asymptotics of Tesler Matrices
Tesler matrices are certain integral matrices counted by the Kostant partition function and have appeared recently in Haglund's study of diagonal harmonics. In 2014, Drew Armstrong defined a poset on such matrices and conjectured that the characteristic polynomial of this poset is a power of $(q-1)$. We use a method of Hallam and Sagan to prove a stronger version of this conjecture for posets of a certain class of generalized Tesler matrices. We also study bounds for the number of Tesler matrices and how they compare to the number of parking functions, the dimension of the space of diagonal harmonics.
Multiplicative partition functions for reverse plane partitions derived from an integrable dynamical system
A close connection of reverse plane partitions with an integrable dynamical system called the discrete two-dimensional (2D) Toda molecule is clarified. It is shown that a multiplicative partition function for reverse plane partition of arbitrary shape with bounded parts can be obtained from each non-vanishing solution to the discrete 2D Toda molecule. As an example a partition function which generalizes MacMahon's triple product formula as well as Gansner's multi-trace generating function is derived from a specific solution to the dynamical system.

Let $G$ be a finite group and $χ: G \rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ a class function. Let $H = (V,E)$ be a directed graph with for each vertex a cyclic order of the edges incident to it. The cyclic orders give a collection $F$ of faces of $H$. Define the partition function $P_χ(H) := \sum_{κ: E \rightarrow G}\prod_{v \in V}χ(κ(δ(v)))$, where $κ(δ(v))$ denotes the product of the $κ$-values of the edges incident with $v$ (in order), where the inverse is taken for any edge leaving $v$. Write $χ= \sum_λm_λχ_λ$, where the sum runs over irreducible representations $λ$ of $G$ with character $χ_λ$ and with $m_λ \in \mathbb{C}$ for every $λ$. If $H$ is connected, it is proved that $P_χ(H) = |G|^{|E|}\sum_λχ_λ(1)^{|F|-|E|}m_λ^{|V|}$, where $1$ is the identity element of $G$. Among the corollaries, a formula for the number of nowhere-identity $G$-flows on $H$ is derived, generalizing a result of Tutte. We show that these flows correspond bijectively to certain proper $G$-colorings of a covering graph of the dual graph of $H$. This correspondence generalizes coloring-flow duality for planar graphs.

We study generalized gauge theories engineered by taking the low energy limit of the $Dp$ branes wrapping $X \times T^{p-3}$, with $X$ a possibly singular surface in a Calabi-Yau fourfold $Z$. For toric $Z$ and $X$ the partition function can be computed by localization, making it a statistical mechanical model, called the gauge origami. The random variables are the ensembles of Young diagrams. The building block of the gauge origami is associated with a tetrahedron, whose edges are colored by vector spaces. We show the properly normalized partition function is an entire function of the Coulomb moduli, for generic values of the $Ω$-background parameters. The orbifold version of the theory defines the $qq$-character operators, with and without the surface defects. The analytic properties are the consequence of a relative compactness of the moduli spaces $M({\vec n}, k)$ of crossed and spiked instantons, demonstrated in arXiv:1608.07272.

This is a review/announcement of results concerning the connection between certain exactly solvable two-dimensional models of statistical mechanics, namely loop models, and the equivariant $K$-theory of the cotangent bundle of the Grassmannian. We interpret various concepts from integrable systems ($R$-matrix, partition function on a finite domain) in geometric terms. As a byproduct, we provide explicit formulae for $K$-classes of various coherent sheaves, including structure and (conjecturally) square roots of canonical sheaves and canonical sheaves of conormal varieties of Schubert varieties.

We give a conjectural formula for sheaves supported on (irreducible) conormal varieties inside the cotangent bundle of the Grassmannian, such that their equivariant $K$-class is given by the partition function of an integrable loop model, and furthermore their $K$-theoretic pushforward to a point is a solution of the level $1$ quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation. We prove these results in the case that the Lagrangian is smooth (hence is the conormal bundle to a subGrassmannian). To compute the pushforward to a point, or equivalently to the affinization, we simultaneously degenerate the Lagrangian and sheaf (over the affinization); the sheaf degenerates to a direct sum of cyclic modules over the geometric components, which are in bijection with plane partitions, giving a geometric interpretation to the Razumov-Stroganov correspondence satisfied by the loop model.

In this paper, first we introduce a quantity called a partition function for a quiver mutation sequence. The partition function is a generating function whose weight is a $q$-binomial associated with each mutation. Then, we show that the partition function can be expressed as a ratio of products of quantum dilogarithms. This provides a systematic way of constructing various $q$-binomial multisum identities.
Extreme diagonally and antidiagonally symmetric alternating sign matrices of odd order

For each $α\in \{0,1,-1 \}$, we count diagonally and antidiagonally symmetric alternating sign matrices (DASASMs) of fixed odd order with a maximal number of $α$'s along the diagonal and the antidiagonal, as well as DASASMs of fixed odd order with a minimal number of $0$'s along the diagonal and the antidiagonal. In these enumerations, we encounter product formulas that have previously appeared in plane partition or alternating sign matrix counting, namely for the number of all alternating sign matrices, the number of cyclically symmetric plane partitions in a given box, and the number of vertically and horizontally symmetric ASMs. We also prove several refinements. For instance, in the case of DASASMs with a maximal number of $-1$'s along the diagonal and the antidiagonal, these considerations lead naturally to the definition of alternating sign triangles. These are new objects that are equinumerous with ASMs, and we are able to prove a two parameter refinement of this fact, involving the number of $-1$'s and the inversion number on the ASM side. To prove our results, we extend techniques to deal with triangular six-vertex configurations that have recently successfully been applied to settle Robbins' conjecture on the number of all DASASMs of odd order. Importantly, we use a general solution of the reflection equation to prove the symmetry of the partition function in the spectral parameters. In all of our cases, we derive determinant or Pfaffian formulas for the partition functions, which we then specialize in order to obtain the product formulas for the various classes of extreme odd DASASMs under consideration.
