Symmetry of the generating function of semistandard oscillating tableaux
H.Choi-D.Kim-S.J.Lee and S.J.Lee introduced a new kind of tableaux, semistandard oscillating tableaux (SSOT), around 2024 in the context of Lusztig $q$-weight multiplicities, KR crystals and King tableaux. In this paper, we study generating function of the SSOTs and its symmetry. First, we extend Gessel's and Assaf-Searles' expansion of a Schur function in terms of fundamental quasi-symmetric functions to our generating function. As a consequence, we show that it is $F$-positive. Further, we improve Sundaram's work on oscillating tableaux by proving that it is symmetric, Schur-positive, and has Saturated Newton polytope.
On maximal rank properties for symmetric polynomials in an equigenerated monomial complete intersection
It is well known that a monomial complete intersection has the strong Lefschetz property in characteristic zero. This property is equivalent to the statement that any power of the sum of the variables is a maximal rank element on the complete intersection. In this paper, we investigate what happens when this element is replaced by another symmetric polynomial, in an equigenerated complete intersection.
We answer the question completely for the power sum symmetric polynomial using a grading technique, and for any Schur polynomial in the case of two variables by deriving a closed formula for the determinants of a family of Toeplitz matrices. Further, we obtain partial results in three or more variables for the elementary and the complete homogeneous symmetric polynomials and pose several open questions.
Double Hall-Littlewood symmetric polynomials
We establish a ring isomorphism between the derived Hall algebra of the Jordan quiver and the ring of double symmetric functions (i.e., the ring of symmetric polynomials in two sets of countably many variables, invariant under the respective actions of their symmetric groups) with a parameter $t$. This isomorphism maps the derived Hall basis (the natural basis of the derived Hall algebra) to a class of double Hall-Littlewood (HL) symmetric functions, which are formulated via raising and lowering operators. These double HL functions are parameterized by bipartitions; they reduce to the classical HL functions when one of the partitions is empty, and specialize to Schur Laurent symmetric functions at $t = 0$. We also derive the Pieri rules for these double HL functions. Additionally, we obtain several natural generating functions for the derived Hall algebra as well as their transition relations, which can be transferred to the ring of double symmetric functions via the established ring isomorphism.
Ribbon complexes for the 0-Hecke algebra
We construct explicit tableau-level maps between indecomposable projective modules for the type A 0-Hecke algebra that assemble into canonical split short exact sequences lifting the basic ribbon product rule in NSym via concatenation and near-concatenation. Iterating these maps yields cochain complexes indexed by generalized ribbons; we prove these complexes are acyclic in positive degrees and that their zeroth cohomology is the projective module indexed by full concatenation. We apply these complexes, together with VandeBogert's ribbon Schur module criterion, to prove Koszulness for a naturally defined internally graded algebra object built from the 0-Hecke tower. Finally, we define skew projective modules whose noncommutative Frobenius characteristics realize skewing by fundamental quasisymmetric functions on NSym.
Staircase hook-length ratios and special values of Jacobi polynomials
We relate hook-length products for adjacent staircase partitions to special values of Jacobi polynomials. This connection expresses the number of semistandard tableaux in terms of Jacobi polynomials defined via Gauss hypergeometric functions. From this identity, we derive the special values of stable Grothendieck polynomials and $K$-theoretic Schur $P$-functions indexed by adjacent staircase partitions. These values provide ratios of the numbers of set-valued and shifted set-valued semistandard tableaux. This connection is further clarified by the theory of excited Young diagrams, which characterizes the coefficients in these specializations.
L-log-concavity and a proof of the conjecture of Lam, Postnikov and Pylyavskyy
Let $λ$, $μ$, $λ'$, $μ'$ be partitions. The conjecture of Lam, Postnikov and Pylyavskyy states that, if $λ+μ= λ' + μ'$, and $\min(λ_i-λ_j, μ_i-μ_j) \leq λ'_i - λ'_j \leq \max(λ_i-λ_j, μ_i-μ_j)$ for all $1 \leq i<j \leq n$, then $s_{λ'} s_{μ'} - s_λ s_μ$ is Schur nonnegative. We prove this conjecture.
Our proof is based on two key ideas. First, we introduce a new combinatorial model for Littlewood-Richardson coefficients which we name ``skeps", which are similar to but distinct from Knutson and Tao's hives. Second, we use tools from Murota's theory of L-convexity to prove an L-log-concavity theorem for skeps.
The Littlewood-Richardson rule for Schur multiple zeta functions
The Schur multiple zeta function was defined as a multivariable function by Nakasuji-Phuksuwan-Yamasaki. Inspired by the product formula of Schur functions, the products of Schur multiple zeta functions have been studied. While the product of two Schur functions expands as a linear combination of Schur functions, it is known that a similar expansion for the product of Schur multiple zeta functions can be obtained by symmetrizing, i.e., by taking the summation over all permutations of the variables. In this paper, we present a more refined formula by restricting the summation from the full symmetric group to its specific subgroup.
Positive expansions of permuted basement and quasisymmetric Macdonald polynomials at $t=0$
It is well known that the $q$-Whittaker polynomials, which are $t=0$ specializations of the Macdonald polynomials $P_λ(X;q,t)$, expand positively as the sum of Schur polynomials. Macdonald polynomials have a quasisymmetric refinement: the quasisymmetric Macdonald polynomials $G_γ(X;q,t)$, and a nonsymmetric refinement: the ASEP polynomials $f_α(X;q,t)$. We study the $t=0$ specializations of both these families of polynomials and show analogous properties: the quasisymmetric Macdonald polynomials expand positively as a sum of quasisymmetric Schur functions, $\text{QS}_γ(X)$, and the ASEP polynomials expand positively as a sum of Demazure atoms, $\mathcal{A}_α(X)$. As a corollary of the latter, we prove more generally that any permuted basement Macdonald polynomial has a positive expansion in the Demazure atoms at $t=0$. We give a description of the structure coefficients of $G_γ(X;q,0)$ and $f_α(X;q,0)$ in both cases in terms of the charge statistic on a restricted set of semistandard tableaux.
Positive specializations of K-theoretic Schur P- and Q-functions
Yeliussizov has classified the positive specializations of symmetric Grothendieck functions, defined in several different ways, providing a K-theoretic lift of the classical Edrei-Thoma theorem. This note studies the analogous classification problem for Ikeda and Naruse's K-theoretic Schur P- and Q-functions, which are the shifted versions of symmetric Grothendieck functions. Our results extend a shifted variant of the Edrei-Thoma theorem due to Nazarov. We also discuss an application to the problem of determining the extreme harmonic functions on a filtered version of the shifted Young lattice.
The $k$-Plancherel measure and a Finite Markov Chain
Let $\mathcal{P}_k(n)$ denote the set of partitions of $n$ whose largest part is bounded by $k,$ which are in well-known bijection with $(k+1)$-cores $\mathcal{C}_k$. We study a growth process on $\mathcal{C}_k$, whose stationary distribution is the $k$-Plancherel measure, which is a natural extension of the Plancherel measure in the context of $k$-Schur functions. When $k\to\infty$ it converges to the Plancherel measure for partitions, a limit studied first by Vershik-Kerov. However, when $k$ is fixed and $n\to \infty$, we conjecture that it converges to a shape close to the limit shape from the uniform growth of partitions, as studied by Rost. We show that the limiting behavior, for fixed $k$, is governed by a finite Markov chain with $k!$ states over a subset of the $k$-bounded partitions or equivalently as a TASEP over cyclic permutations of length $k+1$. This paper initiates the study of these processes, state some theorems and several intriguing conjectures found by computations of the finite Markov chain.
Schur--Weyl duality for diagonalizing a Markov chain on the hypercube
We show how the tools of modern algebraic combinatorics -- representation theory, Murphy elements, and particularly Schur--Weyl duality -- can be used to give an explicit orthonormal basis of eigenfunctions for a "curiously slowly mixing Markov chain" on the space of binary $n$-tuples. The basis is used to give sharp rates of convergence to stationarity.
Extending Results on Wilf-Equivalence of Partial Shuffles
In 2020, Bloom and Sagan defined subsets of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ called partial shuffles, and proved a formula for the Schur expansion of the pattern quasisymmetric function associated with a partial shuffle. In their proof, they establish that any two partial shuffles of the same size are Wilf-equivalent. We give an alternative proof of this fact, using an iterative approach. We also show that Wilf-equivalence is preserved on including a decreasing pattern in partial shuffles, and we provide some enumerative results for avoidance classes whose bases consist of a partial shuffle and a decreasing permutation.
Classical double Grothendieck transitions
Kirillov and Naruse have constructed double Grothendieck polynomials to represent the equivariant K-theory classes of Schubert varieties in the complete flag manifolds of types B, C, and D. We derive a recursive formula for these polynomials, extending certain K-theoretic transition equations known in type A to all classical types. As an application, we obtain an identity that expands the K-Stanley symmetric functions in types B, C, and D into positive linear combinations of K-theoretic Schur P- and Q-functions. We also resolve several positivity conjectures related to the skew generalizations of the latter functions.
A combinatorial description of when a self-associated set of points fails to be arithmetically Gorenstein
We prove that the set of points associated to a self-dual code with no proportional columns is arithmetically Gorenstein if and only if the code is indecomposable. This answers a question asked by Toh{ă}neanu. We do so by providing a combinatorial way to compute the dimension of the Schur square of a self-dual code through a zero-one symmetrization of its generator matrix. Our approach also allows us to compute the Gorenstein defect. As a consequence, we obtain a combinatorial characterization of arithmetically Gorenstein self-associated sets of points over an algebraically closed field.
Flagged Hamel--Goulden formulas
We obtain Hamel--Goulden-type ribbon decomposition determinantal formulas for flagged supersymmetric Schur functions. As an application, we derive corresponding new determinantal formulas dual refined canonical stable Grothendieck polynomials. These results generalize and produce a number of new determinantal formulas for these symmetric functions including Jacobi--Trudi and skew Giambelli-type determinants.
A positive combinatorial formula for the double Edelman--Greene coefficients
Lam, Lee, and Shimozono introduced the double Stanley symmetric functions in their study of the equivariant geometry of the affine Grassmannian. They proved that the associated double Edelman--Greene coefficients, the double Schur expansion coefficients of these functions, are positive, a result later refined by Anderson. They further asked for a combinatorial proof of this positivity. In this paper, we provide the first such proof, together with a combinatorial formula that manifests the finer positivity established by Anderson. Our formula is built from two combinatorial models: bumpless pipedreams and increasing chains in the Bruhat order. The proof relies on three key ingredients: a correspondence between these two models, a natural subdivision of bumpless pipedreams, and a symmetry property of increasing chains.
Crystal skeleton polynomials with major index, charge and depth
We introduce a new family of polynomials, crystal skeleton polynomials, to better understand enumeration of standard Young tableaux, quasi-Yamanouchi tableaux and interactions with Gessel's expansion of a Schur function, quasi-crystals and crystal skeletons as Maas-Gariépy introduced in 2023. After developing calculus of those polynomials, we organize thoughts on major index, charge, depth, inversions with RSK correspondence and a bivariate factorial. Also, we revisit the theorem on internal zeros of fake degree polynomials by Billey--Konvalinka--Swanson (2020). These results altogether improve Gessel's expansion.
Monochromatic products in random integer sets
A well-known consequence of Schur's theorem is that for $r\in \mathbb{N}$, if $n$ is sufficiently large, then any $r$-colouring of $[n]$ results in monochromatic $a,b,c\in [n]$ such that $ab=c$. In this paper we are interested in the threshold at which the binomial random set $[n]_p$ almost surely inherits this Ramsey-type property. In particular for $r=2$ colours, we show that this threshold lies between $n^{-1/9-o(1)}$ and $n^{-1/11}$. Whilst analogous questions for solutions to (sets of) linear equations are now well understood, our work suggests that both the behaviour of the thresholds and the proof methods needed to determine them differ substantially in the non-linear setting.
Equivariant homology of the symplectic affine Grassmannian and dual affine Schur $P$-functions
We study the torus-equivariant homology $H_*^T(\mathrm{Gr}_G)$ of the affine Grassmannian $\mathrm{Gr}_G$, where $G=\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}(\mathbb{C})$ is the symplectic group. This homology admits a natural ring structure and a Schubert basis, giving rise to a well-defined Schubert calculus. We realize $H_*^T(\mathrm{Gr}_G)$ in terms of symmetric functions. Our first main result introduces a new family of symmetric functions, called the \emph{dual affine Schur $P$-functions}, which represent the Schubert classes. These functions are defined through the action of the affine nil-Hecke algebra, and specialize, in the stable limit as $n\to \infty$, to the dual factorial $P$-functions of Nakagawa and Naruse. Our second main result gives a precise comparison between this symmetric function model and the geometric construction of $H_*^T (\mathrm{Gr}_G)$ due to Ginzburg and Peterson, which identifies it with a coordinate ring of a centralizer family in the Langlands dual group.
Off-Diagonal Continuous Rado Numbers $x_1 + x_2 + \dots + x_k = x_0$
In 2001, Robertson and Schaal found the 2-color off-diagonal generalized Schur numbers: for two positive integers $k$ and $l$, they determined the smallest positive integer $S = S(k, l)$ such that for any coloring of the integers from 1 to $S$ using red and blue, there must be a red solution to the equation $x_1 + x_2 + \dots + x_k = x_0$ or a blue solution to the equation $x_1 + x_2 + \dots + x_l = x_0$. We extend this result to find the continuous version: for two positive integers $k$ and $l$, we find the smallest real number $S = S_\mathbb{R} (k, l)$ such that for any coloring of the real numbers from 1 to $S$ using red and blue, there must be a red solution to the equation $x_1 + x_2 + \dots + x_k = x_0$ or a blue solution to the equation $x_1 + x_2 + \dots + x_l = x_0$.
