We provide sufficient conditions under which the Catalan-like numbers are Stieltjes moment sequences. As applications, we show that many well-known counting coefficients, including the Bell numbers, the Catalan numbers, the central binomial coefficients, the central Delannoy numbers, the factorial numbers, the large and little Schröder numbers, are Stieltjes moment sequences in a unified approach.

We study the family of causal double product integrals \begin{equation*}
\prod_{a < x < y < b}\left(1 + i{λ\over 2}(dP_x dQ_y - dQ_x dP_y) + i {μ\over 2}(dP_x dP_y + dQ_x dQ_y)\right) \end{equation*} where $P$ and $Q$ are the mutually noncommuting momentum and position Brownian motions of quantum stochastic calculus. The evaluation is motivated heuristically by approximating the continuous double product by a discrete product in which infinitesimals are replaced by finite increments. The latter is in turn approximated by the second quantisation of a discrete double product of rotation-like operators in different planes due to a result in [Hudson-Pei2015]. The main problem solved in this paper is the explicit evaluation of the continuum limit $W$ of the latter, and showing that $W$ is a unitary operator. The kernel of $W$ is written in terms of Bessel functions, and the evaluation is achieved by working on a lattice path model and enumerating linear extensions of related partial orderings, where the enumeration turns out to be heavily related to Dyck paths and generalisations of Catalan numbers.
Lattice Path Matroids: Negative Correlation and Fast Mixing
Catalan numbers arise in many enumerative contexts as the counting sequence of combinatorial structures. In this work, we consider natural Markov chains on some of the realizations of the Catalan sequence. While our main result is in deriving an $O(n^2 \log n)$ bound on the mixing time in $L_2$ (and hence total variation) distance for the random transposition chain on Dyck paths, we raise several open questions, including the optimality of the above bound. The novelty in our proof is in establishing a certain negative correlation property among random bases of lattice path matroids, including the so-called Catalan matroid which can be defined using Dyck paths.

We present a parametric family of Riordan arrays which are obtained by multiplying any Riordan array with a generalized Pascal array. In particular, we focus on some interesting properties of one-parameter Catalan triangles. We obtain several combinatorial identities that involve two special Catalan matrices, the Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind, some periodic sequences, and the Fibonacci numbers.

We will look at the Catalan numbers from the {\it Rigged Configurations} point of view originated \cite{Kir} from an combinatorial analysis of the Bethe Ansatz Equations associated with the higher spin anisotropic Heisenberg models . Our strategy is to take a combinatorial interpretation of Catalan numbers $C_n$ as the number of standard Young tableaux of rectangular shape $(n^2)$, or equivalently, as the Kostka number $K_{(n^2),1^{2n}}$, as the starting point of research. We observe that the rectangular (or multidimensional) Catalan numbers $ C(m,n)$ introduced and studied by P. MacMahon \cite{Mc}, \cite{Su1}, see also \cite{Su2}, can be identified with the Kostka number $K_{(n^m),1^{mn}}$, and therefore can be treated by Rigged Configurations technique. Based on this technique we study the stretched Kostka numbers and polynomials, and give a proof of `` a strong rationality `` of the stretched Kostka polynomials. This result implies a polynomiality property of the stretched Kostka and stretched Littlewood--Richardson coefficients \cite{KT}, \cite{Ras}, \cite{Ki1}. Another application of the Rigged Configuration technique presented, is a new family of counterexamples to Okounkov's log-concavity conjecture \cite{Ok}. Finally, we apply Rigged Configurations technique to give a combinatorial prove of the unimodality of the principal specialization of the internal product of Schur functions. In fact we prove a combinatorial formula for generalized $q$-Gaussian polynomials which is a far generalization of the so-called $KOH$-identity \cite{O}, as well as it manifests the unimodality property of the $q$-Gaussian polynomials.

Given a coprime pair $(m,n)$ of positive integers, rational Catalan numbers $\frac{1}{m+n} \binom{m+n}{m,n}$ counts two combinatorial objects:rational $(m,n)$-Dyck paths are lattice paths in the $m\times n$ rectangle that never go below the diagonal; $(m,n)$-cores are partitions with no hook length equal to $m$ or $n$.Anderson established a bijection between $(m,n)$-Dyck paths and $(m,n)$-cores. We define a new transformation, called rank complement, on rational Dyck paths. We show that rank complement corresponds to conjugation of $(m,n)$-cores under Anderson's bijection. This leads to: i) a new approach to characterizing $n$-cores; ii) a simple approach for counting the number of self-conjugate $(m,n)$-cores; iii) a proof of the equivalence of two conjectured combinatorial sum formulas, one over rational $(m,n)$-Dyck paths and the other over $(m,n)$-cores, for rational Catalan polynomials.
Reduced word manipulation: patterns and enumeration

We develop the technique of reduced word manipulation to give a range of results concerning reduced words and permutations more generally. We prove a broad connection between pattern containment and reduced words, which specializes to our previous work for vexillary permutations. We also analyze general tilings of Elnitsky's polygon, and demonstrate that these are closely related to the patterns in a permutation. Building on previous work for commutation classes, we show that reduced word enumeration is monotonically increasing with respect to pattern containment. Finally, we give several applications of this work. We show that a permutation and a pattern have equally many reduced words if and only if they have the same length (equivalently, the same number of 21-patterns), and that they have equally many commutation classes if and only if they have the same number of 321-patterns. We also apply our techniques to enumeration problems of pattern avoidance, and give a bijection between 132-avoiding permutations of a given length and partitions of that same size, as well as refinements of this data and a connection to the Catalan numbers.
A Very Short (Bijective!) Proof of Touchard's Catalan Identity
A very short, bijective proof, of Touchard's Catalan identity is given, using Dyck paths.
LGV proof of a determinantal theorem for TASEP probabilities
The Totally Asymmetric Simple Exclusion Process (TASEP) is a non-equilibrium particle model on a finite one-dimensional lattice with open boundaries. In our earlier paper, we obtained a determinantal formula that computes the steady state probabilities of this process by the enumeration of "Catalan alternative tableaux", which are certain fillings of Young diagrams. Here, we present a new, more illuminating bijective proof of this determinantal formula using the Lindström-Gessel-Viennot Lemma.

The three main objects in noncrossing Catalan combinatorics associated to a finite Coxeter system are noncrossing partitions, clusters, and sortable elements. The first two of these have known Fuss-Catalan generalizations. We provide new viewpoints for both and introduce the missing generalization of sortable elements by lifting the theory from the Coxeter system to the associated positive Artin monoid. We show how this new perspective ties together all three generalizations, providing a uniform framework for noncrossing Fuss-Catalan combinatorics. Having developed the combinatorial theory, we provide an interpretation of our generalizations in the language of the representation theory of hereditary Artin algebras.
Action graphs and Catalan numbers
We introduce an inductively defined sequence of directed graphs and prove that the number of edges added at step $k$ is equal to the $k$th Catalan number. Furthermore, we establish an isomorphism between the set of edges adjoined at step $k$ and the set of planar rooted trees with $k$ edges.

We study the average leaf-to-leaf path lengths on ordered Catalan tree graphs with $n$ nodes and show that these are equivalent to the average length of paths starting from the root node. We give an explicit analytic formula for the average leaf-to-leaf path length as a function of separation of the leaves and study its asymptotic properties. At the heart of our method is a strategy based on an abstract graph representation of generating functions.
Lattice points and simultaneous core partitions

We observe that for a and b relatively prime, the "abacus construction" identifies the set of simultaneous (a,b)-core partitions with lattice points in a rational simplex. Furthermore, many statistics on (a,b)-cores are piecewise polynomial functions on this simplex. We apply these results to rational Catalan combinatorics.
Using Ehrhart theory, we reprove Anderson's theorem that there are (a+b-1)!/a!b! simultaneous (a,b)-cores, and using Euler-Maclaurin theory we prove Armstrong's conjecture that the average size of an (a,b)-core is (a+b+1)(a-1)(b-1)/24. Our methods also give new derivations of analogous formulas for the number and average size of self-conjugate (a,b)-cores.
We conjecture a unimodality result for q rational Catalan numbers, and make preliminary investigations in applying these methods to the (q,t)-symmetry and specialization conjectures. We prove these conjectures for low degree terms and when a=3, connecting them to the Catalan hyperplane arrangement and quadratic permutation statistics.
The Catalan combinatorics of the hereditary artin algebras

This is a survey on the categorification of the poset of generalized non-crossing partitions, using the representation theory of a hereditary artin algebra H, looking at the set P of exceptional subcategories in mod H. This categorification is due to Ingalls and Thomas, and a subsequent paper by Igusa and Schiffler.
Starting point is a refinement of the classical tilting theory for mod H, replacing torsion pairs by torsion triples, thus putting it into the realm of the stability theory of King. The torsion pairs in mod H correspond nicely to the perpendicular pairs of exceptional subcategories and there is a wealth of bijections, the Ingalls-Thomas bijections, between sets of modules and subcategories.
If H is representation-finite, one may look at the corresponding numbers of modules or subcategories. Such Dynkin functions (they attach to a Dynkin diagram an integer) are displayed in chapter 1. In a mysterious way, many Dynkin functions can be described using the exponents of the Weyl group. According to Shapiro and Kostant, the exponents are given by the height partition of the root poset. A recent result of Abe-Barakat-Cuntz-Hoge-Terao allows to determine them inductively, going up in a chain of ideals in the root poset, looking at the corresponding hyperplane arrangements.
Chapter 4 deals with the case of the linearly oriented quiver of Dynkin type A. Here P is identified with the lattice NC of non-crossing partitions as introduced by Kreweras (now an important tool in several parts of mathematics, for example in free probability theory). We review some classical problems which are related to the maximal chains in NC: to count labeled trees as well as parking functions. The combinatorics of the Dynkin case A is just the combinatorics of the Catalan numbers; in an appendix, we discuss the nature of classical Catalan combinatorics.
Ménage Numbers and Ménage Permutations
In this paper, we study the combinatorial structures of straight and ordinary ménage permutations. Based on these structures, we prove four formulas. The first two formulas define a relationship between the ménage numbers and the Catalan numbers. The other two formulas count the ménage permutations by number of cycles.
Catalan matroid decompositions of certain positroids
A positroid is the matroid of a matrix whose maximal minors are all nonnegative. Given a permutation $w$ in $S_n$, the matroid of a generic $n \times n$ matrix whose non-zero entries in row $i$ lie in columns $w(i)$ through $n+i$ is an example of a positroid. We enumerate the bases of such a positroid as a sum of certain products of Catalan numbers, each term indexed by the $123$-avoiding permutations above $w$ in Bruhat order. We also give a similar sum formula for their Tutte polynomials. These are both avatars of a structural result writing such a positroid as a disjoint union of matroids, each isomorphic to a direct sum of Catalan matroids and a matroid with one basis.
Generalized Catalan Numbers and the Enumeration of Planar Embeddings
The Raney numbers $R_{p,r}(n)$ are a two-parameter generalization of the Catalan numbers that were introduced by Raney in his investigation of functional composition patterns \cite{Raney}. We give a new combinatorial interpretation for all Raney numbers in terms of planar embeddings of certain collections of trees, a construction that recovers the usual interpretation of the $p$-Catalan numbers in terms of $p$-ary trees via the specialization $R_{p,1}(n) =_{p} c_n$. Our technique leads to several combinatorial identities involving the Raney numbers and ordered partitions. We then give additional combinatorial interpretations of specific Raney numbers, including an identification of $R_{p^2,p}(n)$ with oriented trees whose vertices satisfy the "source or sink property". We close with comments applying these results to the enumeration of connected (non-elliptic) $A_2$ webs that lack an internal cycle.
Compatibility fans for graphical nested complexes

Graph associahedra are natural generalizations of the classical associahedra. They provide polytopal realizations of the nested complex of a graph $G$, defined as the simplicial complex whose vertices are the tubes (i.e. connected induced subgraphs) of $G$ and whose faces are the tubings (i.e. collections of pairwise nested or non-adjacent tubes) of $G$. The constructions of M. Carr and S. Devadoss, of A. Postnikov, and of A. Zelevinsky for graph associahedra are all based on the nested fan which coarsens the normal fan of the permutahedron. In view of the combinatorial and geometric variety of simplicial fan realizations of the classical associahedra, it is tempting to search for alternative fans realizing graphical nested complexes.
Motivated by the analogy between finite type cluster complexes and graphical nested complexes, we transpose in this paper S. Fomin and A. Zelevinsky's construction of compatibility fans from the former to the latter setting. For this, we define a compatibility degree between two tubes of a graph $G$. Our main result asserts that the compatibility vectors of all tubes of $G$ with respect to an arbitrary maximal tubing on $G$ support a complete simplicial fan realizing the nested complex of $G$. In particular, when the graph $G$ is reduced to a path, our compatibility degree lies in $\{-1,0,1\}$ and we recover F. Santos' Catalan many simplicial fan realizations of the associahedron.

In this paper, we generalize the Catalan number to the $(n,k)$-th Catalan numbers and find a combinatorial description that the $(n,k)$-th Catalan numbers is equal to the number of partitions of $n(k-1)+2$ polygon by $(k+1)$-gon where all vertices of all $(k+1)$-gons lie on the vertices of $n(k-1)+2$ polygon.
Catalan pairs and Fishburn triples
Disanto, Ferrari, Pinzani and Rinaldi have introduced the concept of 'Catalan pair', which is a pair of partial orders (S,R) satisfying certain axioms. They have shown that Catalan pairs provide a natural description of objects belonging to several classes enumerated by Catalan numbers.
In this paper, we first introduce another axiomatic structure (T,R), which we call the 'Catalan pair of type 2', which describes certain Catalan objects that do not seem to have an easy interpretation in terms of the original Catalan pairs.
We then introduce 'Fishburn triples', which are relational structures obtained as a direct common generalization of the two types of Catalan pairs. Fishburn triples encode, in a natural way, the structure of objects enumerated by the Fishburn numbers, such as interval orders or Fishburn matrices. This connection between Catalan objects and Fishburn objects allows us to associate known statistics on Catalan objects with analogous statistics of Fishburn objects. As our main result, we then show that several known equidistribution results on Catalan statistics can be generalized to analogous results for Fishburn statistics.
