Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes are prominent objects in algebraic combinatorics. The number of integer points of the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope $\mathrm{GT}(λ)$ is equal to the dimension of the corresponding irreducible representation of $GL(n)$. It is well-known that the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope is a marked order polytope; the authors have recently shown it to be a flow polytope. In this paper, we draw corollaries from this result and establish a general theory connecting marked order polytopes and flow polytopes.

Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes are classical objects in algebraic combinatorics arising in the representation theory of $\mathfrak{gl}_n(\mathbb{C})$. The integer point transform of the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope $\mathrm{GT}(λ)$ projects to the Schur function $s_λ$. Schur functions form a distinguished basis of the ring of symmetric functions; they are also special cases of Schubert polynomials $\mathfrak{S}_{w}$ corresponding to Grassmannian permutations.
For any permutation $w \in S_n$ with column-convex Rothe diagram, we construct a polytope $\mathcal{P}_{w}$ whose integer point transform projects to the Schubert polynomial $\mathfrak{S}_{w}$. Such a construction has been sought after at least since the construction of twisted cubes by Grossberg and Karshon in 1994, whose integer point transforms project to Schubert polynomials $\mathfrak{S}_{w}$ for all $w \in S_n$. However, twisted cubes are not honest polytopes; rather one can think of them as signed polytopal complexes. Our polytope $\mathcal{P}_{w}$ is a convex polytope. We also show that $\mathcal{P}_{w}$ is a Minkowski sum of Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes of varying sizes. When the permutation $w$ is Grassmannian, the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope is recovered. We conclude by showing that the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytope is a flow polytope.
Some algebraic structures in KPZ universality
We review some algebraic and combinatorial structures that underlie models in the KPZ universality class.Emphasis is placed on the Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence and its geometric lifting due to A.N.Kirillov. We present how these combinatorial constructions are used to analyse the structure of solvable models in the KPZ class and lead to computation of their statistics via connecting to representation theoretic objects such as Schur, Macdonald and Whittaker functions, Young tableaux and Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns. We also present how fundamental representation theoretic concepts, such as the Cauchy identity, the Pieri rule and the branching rule, can be used, alongside RSK correspondences, and can be combined with probabilistic ideas, in order to construct integrable stochastic dynamics on two dimensional arrays of Gelfand-Tsetlin type, in ways that couple different one dimensional stochastic processes. For example, interacting particle systems, on the one hand, and processes related to eigenvalues of random matrices, on the other, thus illuminating the emergence of random matrix distributions in interacting stochastic processes. The goal of the notes is to expose some of the overarching principles, which have driven a significant number of developments in the field.

This paper defines the partition algebra for complex reflection group $G(r,p,n)$ acting on $k$-fold tensor product $(\mathbb{C}^n)^{\otimes k}$, where $\mathbb{C}^n$ is the reflection representation of $G(r,p,n)$. A basis of the centralizer algebra of this action of $G(r,p,n)$ was given by Tanabe and for $p =1$, the corresponding partition algebra was studied by Orellana. We also establish a subalgebra as partition algebra of a subgroup of $G(r,p,n)$ acting on $(\mathbb{C}^n)^{\otimes k}$. We call these algebras as Tanabe algebras. The aim of this paper is to study representation theory of Tanabe algebras: parametrization of their irreducible modules, and construction of Bratteli diagram for the tower of Tanabe algebras. We conclude the paper by giving Jucys-Murphy elements of Tanabe algebras and their actions on the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis, determined by this multiplicity free tower, of irreducible modules.

Demazure characters, also known as key polynomials, generalize the classical Schur polynomials. In particular, when all variables are set equal to $1$, these polynomials count the number of integer points in a certain class of Gelfand--Tsetlin polytopes. This property highlights the interaction between the corresponding polyhedral and combinatorial structures via Ehrhart theory. In this paper, we give an overview of results concerning the interplay between the geometry of Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes and their Ehrhart polynomials. Motivated by strong computer evidence, we propose several conjectures about the non-negativity of the coefficients of such polynomials.
Skew RSK and the switching on ballot tableau pairs
In arXiv:1808.06095 we have introduced the Knuth class of the word recording a sequence of locations for repeated internal insertion operations in the Sagan-Stanley skew RSK correspondence, with no prescribed external insertion of new cells, to be a preserver for the $P$-tableau. As a consequence the Benkart-Sottile-Stroomer switching involution on ballot tableau pairs allows a realization as a recursive internal insertion procedure. This amounts to explain the various presentations of Littlewood-Richardson (LR) commuters and their coincidence predicted by Pak and Vallejo with contributions by Danilov and Koshevoi. In particular, the aforesaid presentation provides internal insertion as an alternative to Schützenberger- Lusztig involution (or evacuation) to constructing the Gelfand-Tsetlin pair in the Henriques-Kamnitzer $\mathfrak{gl}_n$-crystal commuter. In addition, the coincidence of LR commuters solves the Lecouvey-Lenart conjecture, recently further developed by Kumar-Torres, on bijections between the Kwon and Sundaram branching models.

The symmetric Grothendieck polynomials representing Schubert classes in the $K$-theory of Grassmannians are generating functions for semistandard set-valued tableaux. We construct a type $A_n$ crystal structure on these tableaux. This crystal yields a new combinatorial formula for decomposing symmetric Grothendieck polynomials into Schur polynomials. For single-columns and single-rows, we give a new combinatorial interpretation of Lascoux polynomials (K-analogs of Demazure characters) by constructing a K-theoretic analog of crystals with an appropriate analog of a Demazure crystal. We relate our crystal structure to combinatorial models using excited Young diagrams, Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns via the $5$-vertex model, and biwords via Hecke insertion to compute symmetric Grothendieck polynomials.

We revisit the Bose-Mesner algebra of the perfect matching association scheme. Our main results are:
1. An inductive algorithm, based on solving linear equations, to compute the eigenvalues of the orbital basis elements given the central characters of the symmetric groups.
2. Universal formulas, as content evaluations of symmetric functions, for the eigenvalues of fixed orbitals.
3. An inductive construction of an eigenvector (the so called first Gelfand-Tsetlin vector) in each eigenspace leading to a different inductive algorithm (not using central characters) for the eigenvalues of the orbital basis elements.

Positive temperature dynamics on Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns restricted by wall
The thesis focuses on processes on symplectic Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns. In chapter 4, a process with dynamics inspired by the Berele correspondence [Ber86] is presented. It is proved that the shape of the pattern is a Doob $h$-transform of independent random walks with $h$ given by the symplectic Schur function. This is followed by an extension to a $q$-weighted version. This randomised version has itself a branching structure and is related to a $q$-deformation of the $so_{2n+1}$-Whittaker functions. In chapter 5, we present a fully randomised process. This process $q$-deforms a process proposed in [WW09]. In chapter 7 we prove the convergence of the $q$-deformation of the $so_{2n+1}$-Whittaker functions to the classical $so_{2n+1}$-Whittaker functions when $q \to 1$. Finally, in chapter 8 we turn our interest to the continuous setting and construct a process on patterns which contains a positive temperature analogue of the Dyson's Brownian motion of type $B/C$. The processes obtained are $h$-transforms of Brownian motions killed at a continuous rate that depends on their distance from the boundary of the Weyl chamber of type $B/C$, with $h$ related with the $so_{2n+1}$-Whittaker functions.

Birational toggling on Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns appeared first in the study of geometric crystals and geometric Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence. Based on these birational toggle relations, Einstein and Propp introduced a discrete dynamical system called birational rowmotion associated with a partially ordered set. We generalize birational rowmotion to the class of arbitrary strongly connected directed graphs, calling the resulting discrete dynamical system the $R$-system. We study its integrability from the points of view of singularity confinement and algebraic entropy. We show that in many cases, singularity confinement in an $R$-system reduces to the Laurent phenomenon either in a cluster algebra, or in a Laurent phenomenon algebra, or beyond both of those generalities, giving rise to many new sequences with the Laurent property possessing rich groups of symmetries. Some special cases of $R$-systems reduce to Somos and Gale-Robinson sequences.
Complexity of the Fourier transform on the Johnson graph
The set $X$ of $k$-subsets of an $n$-set has a natural graph structure where two $k$-subsets are connected if and only if the size of their intersection is $k-1$. This is known as the Johnson graph. The symmetric group $S_n$ acts on the space of complex functions on $X$ and this space has a multiplicity-free decomposition as sum of irreducible representations of $S_n$, so it has a well-defined Gelfand-Tsetlin basis up to scalars. The Fourier transform on the Johnson graph is defined as the change of basis matrix from the delta function basis to the Gelfand-Tsetlin basis.
The direct application of this matrix to a generic vector requires $\binom{n}{k}^2$ arithmetic operations. We show that --in analogy with the classical Fast Fourier Transform on the discrete circle-- this matrix can be factorized as a product of $n-1$ orthogonal matrices, each one with at most two nonzero elements in each column. This factorization shows that the number of arithmetic operations required to apply this matrix to a generic vector is bounded above by $2(n-1) \binom{n}{k}$. As a consequence, we show that the problem of computing all the weights of the irreducible components of a given function can be solved in $O(n \binom{n}{k})$ operations, improving the previous bound $O(k^2 \binom{n}{k})$ when $k$ asymptotically dominates $\sqrt{n}$ in a non-uniform model of computation. The same improvement is achieved for the problem of computing the isotypic projection onto a single component.
The proof is based on the construction of $n-1$ intermediate bases, each one parametrized by certain pairs composed by a standard Young tableau and a word. The parametrization of each basis is obtained via the Robinson-Schensted insertion algorithm.

We introduce Macdonald characters and use algebraic properties of Macdonald polynomials to study them. As a result, we produce several formulas for Macdonald characters, which are generalizations of those obtained by Gorin and Panova in [Ann. Probab. 43 (2015), 3052-3132, arXiv:1301.0634], and are expected to provide tools for the study of statistical mechanical models, representation theory and random matrices. As first application of our formulas, we characterize the boundary of the $(q,t)$-deformation of the Gelfand-Tsetlin graph when $t=q^θ$ and $θ$ is a positive integer.

We study a class of polyhedra associated to marked posets. Examples of these polyhedra are Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes and cones, as well as Berenstein-Zelevinsky polytopes, all of which have appeared in the representation theory of semi-simple Lie algebras. The faces of these polyhedra correspond to certain partitions of the underlying poset and we give a combinatorial characterization of these partitions. We specify a class of marked posets that give rise to polyhedra with facets in correspondence to the covering relations of the poset. On the convex geometrical side, we describe the recession cone of the polyhedra, discuss products and give a Minkowski sum decomposition. We briefly discuss intersections with affine subspaces that have also appeared in representation theory and recently in the theory of finite Hilbert space frames.
On q-integrals over order polytopes

A combinatorial study of multiple $q$-integrals is developed. This includes a $q$-volume of a convex polytope, which depends upon the order of $q$-integration. A multiple $q$-integral over an order polytope of a poset is interpreted as a generating function of linear extensions of the poset. Specific modifications of posets are shown to give predictable changes in $q$-integrals over their respective order polytopes. This method is used to combinatorially evaluate some generalized $q$-beta integrals. One such application is a combinatorial interpretation of a $q$-Selberg integral. New generating functions for generalized Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns and reverse plane partitions are established. A $q$-analogue to a well known result in Ehrhart theory is generalized using $q$-volumes and $q$-Ehrhart polynomials.

A continuation of the joint work by Vadim Gorin and the author, J. Funct. Anal. 270 (2016), 375-418; arXiv:1504.06832.
The extended Gelfand-Tsetlin graph, introduced in that paper, is a novel combinatorial object. Its q-boundary is formed by infinite point configurations on a two-sided q-lattice. The q-boundary carries a continuous family of probability measures that are a q-analogue of the so-called zw-measures, which originated in the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite-dimensional unitary group.
In the present paper, it is proved that certain transition Markov kernels, linked to the extended Gelfand-Tsetlin graph and its q-boundary, possess the Feller property. This property is needed for constructing a model of Markov dynamics on the q-boundary. A connection with the classical B-splines and their q-analogues is discussed. Some results of the paper arXiv:1504.06832 are rederived in another way.

We study the Felderhof free-fermion six-vertex model, whose wavefunction recently turned out to possess rich combinatorial structure of the Schur polynomials. We investigate the dual version of the wavefunction in this paper, which seems to be a harder object to analyze. We evaluate the dual wavefunction in two ways. First, we give the exact correspondence between the dual wavefunction and the Schur polynomials, for which two proofs are given. Next, we make a microscopic analysis and express the dual wavefunction in terms of strict Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern. As a consequence of these two ways of evaluation of the dual wavefunction, we obtain a dual version of the Tokuyama combinatorial formula for the Schur polynomials. We also give a generalization of the correspondence between the dual wavefunction of the Felderhof model and the factorial Schur polynomials.
On Chari-Loktev bases for local Weyl modules in type $A$

This paper is a study of the bases introduced by Chari-Loktev for local Weyl modules of the current algebra associated to a special linear Lie algebra. Partition overlaid patterns, POPs for short---whose introduction is one of the aims of this paper---form convenient parametrizing sets of these bases. They play a role analogous to that played by (Gelfand-Tsetlin) patterns in the representation theory of the special linear Lie algebra.
The notion of a POP leads naturally to the notion of area of a pattern. We observe that there is a unique pattern of maximal area among all those with a given bounding sequence and given weight. We give a combinatorial proof of this and discuss its representation theoretic relevance.
We then state a conjecture about the "stability", i.e., compatibility in the long range, of Chari-Loktev bases with respect to inclusions of local Weyl modules. In order to state the conjecture, we establish a certain bijection between colored partitions and POPs, which may be of interest in itself.
The involutive nature of the Littlewood-Richardson commutativity bijection

Littlewood-Richardson (LR) coefficients $c_{μν}^λ$ may be evaluated by means of several combinatorial models, including the original LR tableaux of skew shape $λ/μ$ and weight $ν$ and the LR hives with boundary edge labels $λ$, $μ$ and $ν$. Unfortunately, neither of these reveal in any obvious way the well-known symmetry property $c_{μν}^λ=c_{νμ}^λ$. Here we introduce two maps, $ρ^{(n)}$ on LR tableaux and $σ^{(n)}$ on LR hives, that each interchange contributions to $c_{μν}^λ$ and $c_{νμ}^λ$ for any partitions $λ$, $μ$, $ν$ of lengths no greater than $n$, and then prove not only that each of them is a bijection, thereby making manifest the required symmetry property, but also that both maps are involutions. The map $ρ^{(n)}$ involves the iterative action of deletion operators on a given LR tableau of skew shape $λ/μ$ and weight $ν$, that produce a sequence of successively smaller tableaux whose consecutive inner shapes define a certain Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern and determine a partner LR tableau of skew shape $λ/ν$ and weight $μ$. Similarly, the map $σ^{(n)}$ involves repeated path removals from a given LR hive with boundary edge labels $(λ,μ,ν)$ that give rise to a sequence of hives whose left-hand boundary edge labels define the same Gelfand-Tsetlin pattern as before, which is sufficient to determine a partner LR hive with boundary edge labels $(λ,ν,μ)$. The deletions in tableaux are organised so as to preserve the semistandard and lattice permutation properties of LR tableaux, while the path removals in hives are designed to preserve both the triangle condition on edge labels and the hive rhombus gradient positivity conditions. At all stages illustrative examples are provided.
