Row-strict Quasisymmetric Schur Functions, Characterizations of Demazure Atoms, and Permuted Basement Nonsymmetric Macdonald Polynomials
We give a Littlewood-Richardson type rule for expanding the product of a row-strict quasisymmetric Schur function and a symmetric Schur function in terms of row-strict quasisymmetric Schur functions. We then discuss a family of polynomials called Demazure atoms. We review the known characterizations of these polynomials and then present two new characterizations. Finally, we consider a family of polynomials called permuted basement nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials which are obtained by permuting the basement of the combinatorial formula of Haglund, Haiman, and Loehr for nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials. We show that these permuted basement nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials are the simultaneous eigenfunctions of a family of commuting operators in the double affine Hecke algebra.
Dual Equivalence Graphs Revisited and the Explicit Schur Expansion of a Family of LLT Polynomials

In 2007 Sami Assaf introduced dual equivalence graphs as a method for demonstrating that a quasisymmetric function is Schur positive. The method involves the creation of a graph whose vertices are weighted by Ira Gessel's fundamental quasisymmetric functions so that the sum of the weights of a connected component is a single Schur function. In this paper, we improve on Assaf's axiomatization of such graphs, giving locally testable criteria that are more easily verified by computers. We further advance the theory of dual equivalence graphs by describing a broader class of graphs that correspond to an explicit Schur expansion in terms of Yamanouchi words. Along the way, we demonstrate several symmetries in the structure of dual equivalence graphs. We then apply these techniques to give explicit Schur expansions for a family of Lascoux-Leclerc-Thibon polynomials. This family properly contains the previously known case of polynomials indexed by two skew shapes, as was described in a 1995 paper by Christophe Carré and Bernard Leclerc. As an immediate corollary, we gain an explicit Schur expansion for a family of modified Macdonald polynomials in terms of Yamanouchi words. This family includes all polynomials indexed by shapes with at most three cells in the first row and at most two cells in the second row, providing an extension to the combinatorial description of the two column case described in 2005 by James Haglund, Mark Haiman, and Nick Loehr.
Combinatorics of Labelled Parallelogram polyominoes

We obtain explicit formulas for the enumeration of labelled parallelogram polyominoes. These are the polyominoes that are bounded, above and below, by north-east lattice paths going from the origin to a point (k,n). The numbers from 1 and n (the labels) are bijectively attached to the $n$ north steps of the above-bounding path, with the condition that they appear in increasing values along consecutive north steps. We calculate the Frobenius characteristic of the action of the symmetric group S_n on these labels. All these enumeration results are refined to take into account the area of these polyominoes. We make a connection between our enumeration results and the theory of operators for which the intergral Macdonald polynomials are joint eigenfunctions. We also explain how these same polyominoes can be used to explicitly construct a linear basis of a ring of SL_2-invariants.

We introduce a q-weighted version of the Robinson-Schensted (column insertion) algorithm which is closely connected to q-Whittaker functions (or Macdonald polynomials with t=0) and reduces to the usual Robinson-Schensted algorithm when q=0. The q-insertion algorithm is `randomised', or `quantum', in the sense that when inserting a positive integer into a tableau, the output is a distribution of weights on a particular set of tableaux which includes the output which would have been obtained via the usual column insertion algorithm. There is also a notion of recording tableau in this setting. We show that the distribution of weights of the pair of tableaux obtained when one applies the q-insertion algorithm to a random word or permutation takes a particularly simple form and is closely related to q-Whittaker functions. In the case $0\le q<1$, the q-insertion algorithm applied to a random word also provides a new framework for solving the q-TASEP interacting particle system introduced (in the language of q-bosons) by Sasamoto and Wadati (1998) and yields formulas which are equivalent to some of those recently obtained by Borodin and Corwin (2011) via a stochastic evolution on discrete Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns (or semistandard tableaux) which is coupled to the q-TASEP process. We show that the sequence of P-tableaux obtained when one applies the q-insertion algorithm to a random word defines another, quite different, evolution on semistandard tableaux which is also coupled to the q-TASEP process.

We construct a family of pairwise commuting operators such that the Macdonald symmetric functions of infinitely many variables $x_1,x_2,...$ and of two parameters $q,t$ are their eigenfunctions. These operators are defined as limits at $N\to\infty$ of renormalised Macdonald operators acting on symmetric polynomials in the variables $x_1,...,x_N$. They are differential operators in terms of the power sum variables $p_n=x_1^n+x_2^n+...$ and we compute their symbols by using the Macdonald reproducing kernel. We express these symbols in terms of the Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions of the variables $x_1,x_2,...$. Our result also yields elementary step operators for the Macdonald symmetric functions.

We present a uniform construction of tensor products of one-column Kirillov-Reshetikhin (KR) crystals in all untwisted affine types, which uses a generalization of the Lakshmibai-Seshadri paths (in the theory of the Littelmann path model). This generalization is based on the graph on parabolic cosets of a Weyl group known as the parabolic quantum Bruhat graph. A related model is the so-called quantum alcove model. The proof is based on two lifts of the parabolic quantum Bruhat graph: to the Bruhat order on the affine Weyl group and to Littelmann's poset on level-zero weights. Our construction leads to a simple calculation of the energy function. It also implies the equality between a Macdonald polynomial specialized at t=0 and the graded character of a tensor product of KR modules.
Double Macdonald polynomials as the stable limit of Macdonald superpolynomials

Macdonald superpolynomials provide a remarkably rich generalization of the usual Macdonald polynomials. The starting point of this work is the observation of a previously unnoticed stability property of the Macdonald superpolynomials when the fermionic sector m is sufficiently large: their decomposition in the monomial basis is then independent of m. These stable superpolynomials are readily mapped into bisymmetric polynomials, an operation that spoils the ring structure but drastically simplifies the associated vector space. Our main result is a factorization of the (stable) bisymmetric Macdonald polynomials, called double Macdonald polynomials and indexed by pairs of partitions, into a product of Macdonald polynomials (albeit subject to non-trivial plethystic transformations). As an off-shoot, we note that, after multiplication by a t-Vandermonde determinant, this provides explicit formulas for a large class of Macdonald polynomials with prescribed symmetry. The factorization of the double Macdonald polynomials leads immediately to the generalization of basically every elementary properties of the Macdonald polynomials to the double case (norm, kernel, duality, positivity, etc). When lifted back to superspace, this validates various previously formulated conjectures in the stable regime.
The q,t-Kostka coefficients associated to the double Macdonald polynomials are shown to be q,t-analogs of the dimensions of the irreducible representations of the hyperoctahedral group B_n. Moreover, a Nabla operator on the double Macdonald polynomials is defined and its action on a certain bisymmetric Schur function can be interpreted as the Frobenius series of a bigraded module of dimension (2n+1)^n, a formula again characteristic of the Coxeter group of type B_n.
Finally, as a side result, we obtain a simple identity involving products of four Littlewood-Richardson coefficients.

The determinantal form of the partition function of the 6-vertex model with domain wall boundary conditions was given by Izergin. It is known that for a special value of the crossing parameter the partition function reduces to a Schur polynomial.
Caradoc, Foda and Kitanine computed the partition function of the higher spin generalization of the 6-vertex model. In the present work it is shown that for a special value of the crossing parameter, referred to as the combinatorial point, the partition function reduces to a Macdonald polynomial.

Koornwinder polynomials are a 6-parameter BC_n-symmetric family of Laurent polynomials indexed by partitions, from which Macdonald polynomials can be recovered in suitable limits of the parameters. As in the Macdonald polynomial case, standard constructions via difference operators do not allow one to directly control these polynomials at q=0. In the first part of this paper, we provide an explicit construction for these polynomials in this limit, using the defining properties of Koornwinder polynomials. Our formula is a first step in developing the analogy between Hall-Littlewood polynomials and Koornwinder polynomials at q=0. Next, we provide an analogous construction for the nonsymmetric Koornwinder polynomials in the same limiting case. The method employed in this paper is a BC-type adaptation of techniques used in an earlier work of the author, which gave a combinatorial method for proving vanishing results of Rains and Vazirani at the Hall-Littlewood level. As a consequence of this work, we obtain direct arguments for the constant term evaluations and norms in both the symmetric and nonsymmetric cases.

In a recent paper Konvalinka and Lauve proved several skew Pieri rules for Hall-Littlewood polynomials. In this note we show that q-analogues of these rules are encoded in a q-binomial theorem for Macdonald polynomials due to Lascoux and the author.

Mark Haiman has reduced Macdonald positivity conjecture to a statement about geometry of the Hilbert scheme of points on the plane, and formulated a generalization of the conjectures where the symmetric group is replaced by the wreath product $S_n\ltimes (Z/r Z)^n$. He has proven the original conjecture by establishing the geometric statement about the Hilbert scheme, as a byproduct he obtained a derived equivalence between coherent sheaves on the Hilbert scheme and coherent sheaves on the orbifold quotient of ${\mathbb A}^{2n}$ by the symmetric group $S_n$.
A short proof of a similar derived equivalence for any symplectic quotient singularity has been obtained by the first author and Kaledin via quantization in positive characteristic. In the present note we show the properties of the derived equivalence which imply the generalized Macdonald positivity for wreath products.

This category has many similarities with the category $\cal O$ of modules for $\lie g$ and in this paper, we use the combinatorics of Macdonald polynomials to prove an analogue of the famous BGG duality in the case of $\lie{sl}_{n+1}$.

We have developed a patch implementing multivariate polynomials seen as a multi-base algebra. The patch is to be released into the software Sage and can already be found within the Sage-Combinat distribution. One can use our patch to define a polynomial in a set of indexed variables and expand it into a linear basis of the multivariate polynomials. So far, we have the Schubert polynomials, the Key polynomials of types A, B, C, or D, the Grothendieck polynomials and the non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials. One can also use a double set of variables and work with specific double-linear bases like the double Schubert polynomials or double Grothendieck polynomials. Our implementation is based on a definition of the basis using divided difference operators and one can also define new bases using these operators.

Let $G$ be an almost simple simply connected complex Lie group, and let $G/U_-$ be its base affine space. In this paper we formulate a conjecture, which provides a new geometric interpretation of the Macdonald polynomials associated to $G$ via perverse coherent sheaves on the scheme of formal arcs in the affinization of $G/U_-$. We prove our conjecture for $G=SL(N)$ using the so called Laumon resolution of the space of quasi-maps (using this resolution one can reformulate the statement so that only "usual" (not perverse) coherent sheaves are used). In the course of the proof we also give a $K$-theoretic version of the main result of arXiv/0811.4454.

The clustering properties of Jack polynomials are relevant in the theoretical study of the fractional Hall states. In this context, some factorization properties have been conjectured for the $(q,t)$-deformed problem involving Macdonald polynomials. The present paper is devoted to the proof of this formula. To this aim we use four families of Jack/Macdonald polynomials: symmetric homogeneous, nonsymmetric homogeneous, shifted symmetric and shifted nonsymmetric.

Cylindric plane partitions may be thought of as a natural generalization of reverse plane partitions. A generating series for the enumeration of cylindric plane partitions was recently given by Borodin. The first result of this paper is a $(q,t)$-analog of Borodin's identity which extends previous work by Okada in the reverse plane partition case. Our proof uses commutation relations for $(q,t)$-vertex operators acting on Macdonald polynomials as given by Garsia, Haiman and Tesla. The second result of this paper is an explicit combinatorial interpreation of the $(q,t)$-Macdonald weight in terms of a non-intersecting lattice path model on the cylinder.
