The binomial coefficients and Catalan triangle numbers appear as weight multiplicities of the finite-dimensional simple Lie algebras and affine Kac--Moody algebras. We prove that any binomial coefficient can be written as weighted sums along rows of the Catalan triangle. The coefficients in the sums form a triangular array, which we call the alternating Jacobsthal triangle. We study various subsequences of the entries of the alternating Jacobsthal triangle and show that they arise in a variety of combinatorial constructions. The generating functions of these sequences enable us to define their k-analogue of q-deformation. We show that this deformation also gives rise to interesting combinatorial sequences. The starting point of this work is certain identities in the study of Khovanov--Lauda--Rouquier algebras and fully commutative elements of a Coxeter group.

Crystal graphs, in the sense of Kashiwara, carry a natural monoid structure given by identifying words labelling vertices that appear in the same position of isomorphic components of the crystal. In the particular case of the crystal graph for the $q$-analogue of the special linear Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_{n}$, this monoid is the celebrated plactic monoid, whose elements can be identified with Young tableaux. The crystal graph and the so-called Kashiwara operators interact beautifully with the combinatorics of Young tableaux and with the Robinson--Schensted--Knuth correspondence and so provide powerful combinatorial tools to work with them. This paper constructs an analogous `quasi-crystal' structure for the hypoplactic monoid, whose elements can be identified with quasi-ribbon tableaux and whose connection with the theory of quasi-symmetric functions echoes the connection of the plactic monoid with the theory of symmetric functions. This quasi-crystal structure and the associated quasi-Kashiwara operators are shown to interact just as neatly with the combinatorics of quasi-ribbon tableaux and with the hypoplactic version of the Robinson--Schensted--Knuth correspondence. A study is then made of the interaction of the crystal graph of the plactic monoid and the quasi-crystal graph for the hypoplactic monoid. Finally, the quasi-crystal structure is applied to prove some new results about the hypoplactic monoid.

Quasi-triangular Hopf algebras were introduced by Drinfel'd in his construction of solutions to the Yang--Baxter Equation. This algebra is built upon $\mathcal{U}_h(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$, the quantized universal enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_2$. In this paper, combinatorial structure in $\mathcal{U}_h(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ is elicited, and used to assist in highly intricate calculations in this algebra. To this end, a combinatorial methodology is formulated for straightening algebraic expressions to a canonical form in the case $n=1$. We apply this formalism to the quasi-triangular Hopf algebras and obtain a constructive account not only for the derivation of the Drinfel'd's $R$-matrix, but also for the arguably mysterious ribbon elements of $\mathcal{U}_h(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. Finally, we extend these techniques to the higher dimensional algebras $\mathcal{U}_h(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$. While these explicit algebraic results are well-known, our contribution is in our formalism and perspective: our emphasis is on the combinatorial structure of these algebras and how that structure may guide algebraic constructions.

We study the geometry and topology of Hilbert schemes of points on the orbifold surface [C^2/G], respectively the singular quotient surface C^2/G, where G is a finite subgroup of SL(2,C) of type A or D. We give a decomposition of the (equivariant) Hilbert scheme of the orbifold into affine space strata indexed by a certain combinatorial set, the set of Young walls. The generating series of Euler characteristics of Hilbert schemes of points of the singular surface of type A or D is computed in terms of an explicit formula involving a specialized character of the basic representation of the corresponding affine Lie algebra; we conjecture that the same result holds also in type E. Our results are consistent with known results in type A, and are new for type D.

In the aim to understand the generalization of Stirling numbers occurring in the bosonic normal ordering problem, several combinatorial models have been proposed. In particular, Blasiak \emph{et al.} defined combinatorial objects allowing to interpret the number of $S_{\bf{r,s}}(k)$ appearing in the identity $(a^†)^{r_n}a^{s_n}\cdots(a^†)^{r_1}a^{s_1}=(a^†)^α\displaystyle\sum S_{\bf{r,s}}(k)(a^†)^k a^k$, where $α$ is assumed to be non-negative. These objects are used to define a combinatorial Hopf algebra which specializes to the enveloping algebra of the Heisenberg Lie algebra. Here, we propose a new variant of this construction which admits a realization with variables. This means that we construct our algebra from a free algebra $\mathbb{C}\langle A \rangle$ using quotient and shifted product. The combinatorial objects (B-diagrams) are slightly different from those proposed by Blasiak \emph{et al.}, but give also a combinatorial interpretation of the generalized Stirling numbers together with a combinatorial Hopf algebra related to Heisenberg Lie algebra. The main difference comes from the fact that the B-diagrams have the same number of inputs and outputs. After studying the combinatorics and the enumeration of B-diagrams, we propose two constructions of algebras called Fusion algebra $\mathcal{F}$, defined using formal variable and another algebra $\mathcal{B}$ constructed directly from the B-diagrams. We show the connection between these two algebras and that $\mathcal{B}$ can be endowed with a Hopf structure. We recognize two already known combinatorial Hopf subalgebras of $\mathcal{B}$ : $\mathrm{WSym}$ the algebra of word symmetric functions indexed by set partitions and $\mathrm{BWSym}$ the algebra of biword symmetric functions indexed by set partitions into lists.
Generalized Weyl modules, alcove paths and Macdonald polynomials
Classical local Weyl modules for a simple Lie algebra are labeled by dominant weights. We generalize the definition to the case of arbitrary weights and study the properties of the generalized modules. We prove that the representation theory of the generalized Weyl modules can be described in terms of the alcove paths and the quantum Bruhat graph. We make use of the Orr-Shimozono formula in order to prove that the $t=\infty$ specializations of the nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials are equal to the characters of certain generalized Weyl modules.
Duality in the Category of Andersen-Jantzen-Soergel
In the early 1990's Andersen, Jantzen and Soergel introduced a category in order to give a combinatorial model for certain representations of quantum groups at a root of unity and simultaneously of Lie algebras of semisimple algebraic groups in positive characteristic. We will describe the behaviour of duality in this category.

The Kashiwara $B(\infty)$ crystal pertains to a Verma module for a Kac- Moody Lie algebra. Ostensibly it provides only a parametrisation of the global/canonical basis for the latter. Yet it is much more having a rich combinatorial structure from which one may read of a parametrisation of the corresponding basis for any integrable highest weight module, describe the decomposition of the tensor products of highest weight modules, the Demazure submodules of integrable highest weight modules and Demazure flags for translates of Demazure modules. $B(\infty)$ has in general infinitely many presentations as subsets of countably many copies of the natural numbers each given by successive reduced decompositions of Weyl group elements. In each presentation there is an action of Kashiwara operators determined by Kashiwara functions. These functions are linear in the entries. Thus a natural question is to show that in each presentation the subset $B(\infty)$ is polyhedral. Here a new approach to this question is initiated based on constructing dual Kashiwara functions and in this it is enough to show that the latter are also linear in the entries.
The present work resolves one of the two very difficult obstacles in a step-wise construction, namely that the resulting functions must satisfy a sum, or simply S, condition. It depends very subtly on inequalities between the coefficients occurring in functions obtained from the previous step. The only remaining obstacle, that sufficiently many functions are obtained, can at least be verified in many families of cases, though this is to be postponed to a subsequent paper.
This theory has some intriguing numerology which involves the Catalan numbers in two different ways.
Commutation relations for quantum root vectors of cominuscole parabolics
We prove a result for the commutator of quantum root vectors corresponding to cominuscole parabolics. Specifically we show that, given two quantum root vectors, belonging respectively to the quantized nilradical and the quantized opposite nilradical, their commutator belongs to the quantized Levi factor. This generalizes the classical result for Lie algebras. Recall that the quantum root vectors depend on the reduced decomposition of the longest word of the Weyl group. We show that this result does not hold for all such choices. We conjecture that it holds when the reduced decomposition is appropriately factorized.
On Orbits of Order Ideals of Minuscule Posets II: Homomesy
The Fon-Der-Flaass action partitions the order ideals of a poset into disjoint orbits. For a product of two chains, Propp and Roby observed --- across orbits --- the mean cardinality of the order ideals within an orbit to be invariant. That this phenomenon, which they christened homomesy, extends to all minuscule posets is shown herein.
Given a minuscule poset $P$, there exists a complex simple Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ and a representation $V$ of $\mathfrak{g}$ such that the lattice of order ideals of $P$ coincides with the weight lattice of $V$. For a weight $μ$ with corresponding order ideal $I$, it is demonstrated that the behavior of the Weyl group simple reflections on $μ$ not only uniquely determines $μ$, but also encodes the cardinality of $I$. After recourse to work of Rush and Shi mapping the anatomy of the lattice isomorphism, the upshot is a uniform proof that the cardinality statistic exhibits homomesy.
A further application of these ideas shows that the statistic tracking the number of maximal elements in an order ideal is also homomesic, extending another result of Propp and Roby.

We prove a conjecture which expresses the bigraded Poisson-de Rham homology of the nilpotent cone of a semisimple Lie algebra in terms of the generalized (one-variable) Kostka polynomials, via a formula suggested by Lusztig. This allows us to construct a canonical family of filtrations on the flag variety cohomology, and hence on irreducible representations of the Weyl group, whose Hilbert series are given by the generalized Kostka polynomials. We deduce consequences for the cohomology of all Springer fibers. In particular, this computes the grading on the zeroth Poisson homology of all classical finite W-algebras, as well as the filtration on the zeroth Hochschild homology of all quantum finite W-algebras, and we generalize to all homology degrees. As a consequence, we deduce a conjecture of Proudfoot on symplectic duality, relating in type A the Poisson homology of Slodowy slices to the intersection cohomology of nilpotent orbit closures. In the last section, we give an analogue of our main theorem in the setting of mirabolic D-modules.

We prove that the multiplicities of certain maximal weights of $\mathfrak{g}(A^{(1)}_{n})$-modules are counted by pattern avoidance on words. This proves and generalizes a conjecture of Misra-Rebecca. We also prove similar phenomena in types $A^{(2)}_{2n}$ and $D^{(2)}_{n+1}$. Both proofs are applications of Kashiwara's crystal theory.
The $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function and the highest root of the classical Lie algebras
Kostant's partition function counts the number of ways to represent a particular vector (weight) as a nonnegative integral sum of positive roots of a Lie algebra. For a given weight the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function is a polynomial where the coefficient of $q^k$ is the number of ways the weight can be written as a nonnegative integral sum of exactly $k$ positive roots. In this paper we determine generating functions for the $q$-analog of Kostant's partition function when the weight in question is the highest root of the classical Lie algebras of types $B$, $C$ and $D$.

For $\ell \geq 1$ and $k \geq 2$, we consider certain admissible sequences of $k-1$ lattice paths in a colored $\ell \times \ell$ square. We show that the number of such admissible sequences of lattice paths is given by the sum of squares of the number of standard Young tableaux of partitions of $\ell$ with height $\leq k$, which is also the number of $(k+1)k\cdots21$-avoiding permutations of $\{1, 2, \ldots, \ell\}$. Finally, we apply this result to the representation theory of the affine Lie algebra $\widehat{sl}(n)$ and show that this quantity gives the multiplicity of certain maximal dominant weights in the irreducible module $V(kΛ_0)$.

We introduce in this paper the marked chain-order polytopes associated to a marked poset, generalizing the marked chain polytopes and marked order polytopes by putting them as extremal cases in an Ehrhart equivalent family. Some combinatorial properties of these polytopes are studied. This work is motivated by the framework of PBW degenerations in representation theory of Lie algebras.

In this paper we give a combinatorial parametrization of leading terms of defining relations for level $k$ standard modules for affine Lie algebra of type $C_{n}\sp{(1)}$. Using this parametrization we conjecture colored Rogers-Ramanujan type combinatorial identities for $n\geq 2$ and $k\geq 2$; the identity in the case $n=k=1$ is equivalent to one of Capparelli's identities.

We describe a method, based on the theory of Macdonald-Koornwinder polynomials, for proving bounded Littlewood identities. Our approach provides an alternative to Macdonald's partial fraction technique and results in the first examples of bounded Littlewood identities for Macdonald polynomials. These identities, which take the form of decomposition formulas for Macdonald polynomials of type $(R,S)$ in terms of ordinary Macdonald polynomials, are $q,t$-analogues of known branching formulas for characters of the symplectic, orthogonal and special orthogonal groups. In the classical limit, our method implies that MacMahon's famous ex-conjecture for the generating function of symmetric plane partitions in a box follows from the identification of $(\mathrm{GL}(n,\mathbb{R}),\mathrm{O}(n))$ as a Gelfand pair. As further applications, we obtain combinatorial formulas for characters of affine Lie algebras; Rogers-Ramanujan identities for affine Lie algebras, complementing recent results of Griffin et al.; and quadratic transformation formulas for Kaneko--Macdonald-type basic hypergeometric series.

We consider the generating polynomial of the number of rooted trees on the set $\{1,2,\dots,n\}$ counted by the number of descending edges (a parent with a greater label than a child). This polynomial is an extension of the descent generating polynomial of the set of permutations of a totally ordered $n$-set, known as the Eulerian polynomial. We show how this extension shares some of the properties of the classical one. B. Drake proved that this polynomial factors completely over the integers. From his product formula it can be concluded that this polynomial has positive coefficients in the $γ$-basis and we show that a formula for these coefficients can also be derived. We discuss various combinatorial interpretations of these positive coefficients in terms of leaf-labeled binary trees and in terms of the Stirling permutations introduced by Gessel and Stanley. These interpretations are derived from previous results of the author and Wachs related to the poset of weighted partitions and the free multibracketed Lie algebra.

We present a new combinatorial formula for Hall-Littlewood functions associated with the affine root system of type $\tilde A_{n-1}$, i.e. corresponding to the affine Lie algebra $\hat{\mathfrak{sl}}_n$. Our formula has the form of a sum over the elements of a basis constructed by Feigin, Jimbo, Loktev, Miwa and Mukhin in the corresponding irreducible representation.
Our formula can be viewed as a weighted sum of exponentials of integer points in a certain infinite-dimensional convex polyhedron. We derive a weighted version of Brion's theorem and then apply it to our polyhedron to prove the formula.

Let $\mathfrak g$ be a simple Lie algebra, $\mathfrak b$ a fixed Borel subalgebra, and $W$ the Weyl group of $\mathfrak g$. In this note, we study a relationship between the maximal abelian ideals of $\mathfrak b$ and the minimal inversion complete sets of $W$. The latter have been recently defined by Malvenuto et al. (J. Algebra, 424 (2015), 330-356.)
