Given an elliptic curve $E$ defined over $\mathbb{C}$, let $E^{\times}$ be an open subset of $E$ obtained by removing a point. In this paper, we show that the $i$-th Betti number of the unordered configuration space $\mathrm{Conf}^{n}(E^{\times})$ of $n$ points on $E^{\times}$ appears as a coefficient of an explicit rational function in two variables. We also compute its Hodge numbers as coefficients of another explicit rational function in four variables. Our result is interesting because these rational functions resemble the generating function of the $\mathbb{F}_{q}$-point counts of $\mathrm{Conf}^{n}(E^{\times})$, which can be obtained from the zeta function of $E$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$. We show that the mixed Hodge structure of the $i$-th singular cohomology group $H^{i}(\mathrm{Conf}^{n}(E^{\times}))$ with complex coefficients is pure of weight $w(i)$, an explicit integer we provide in this paper. This purity statement implies our main result about the Betti numbers and the Hodge numbers. Our proof uses Totaro's spectral sequence computation that describes the weight filtration of the mixed Hodge structure on $H^{i}(\mathrm{Conf}^{n}(E^{\times}))$.
A Cartan formula for the cohomology of polyhedral products and its application to the ring structure
We give a geometric method for determining the cohomology groups and the product structure of a polyhedral product, under suitable freeness conditions or with coefficients taken in a field. This is done by considering first a special class of CW pairs for which we derive a decomposition of the polyhedral product resembling a Cartan formula. The result is then generalized to arbitrary CW pairs of finite type. This leads to a direct computation of the Hilbert-Poincaré series and to other applications.
The product structure on the cohomology of the polyhedral product is computed in terms of the additive generators, labelled via the Cartan decomposition. The description given suffices to enable explicit calculations.

We study classes determined by the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis of the Hecke algebra in the $K$-theory and hyperbolic cohomology theory of flag varieties. We first show that, in $K$-theory, the two different choices of Kazhdan-Lusztig bases produce dual bases, one of which can be interpreted as characteristic classes of the intersection homology mixed Hodge modules. In equivariant hyperbolic cohomology, we show that if the Schubert variety is smooth, then the class it determines coincides with the class of the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis; this was known as the Smoothness Conjecture. For Grassmannians, we prove that the classes of the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis coincide with the classes determined by Zelevinsky's small resolutions. These properties of the so-called KL-Schubert basis show that it is the closest existing analogue to the Schubert basis for hyperbolic cohomology; the latter is a very useful testbed for more general elliptic cohomologies.

We prove a Kunneth theorem for the Vietoris-Rips homology and cohomology of a semi-uniform space. We then interpret this result for graphs, where we show that the Kunneth theorem holds for graphs with respect to the strong graph product. We finish by computing the Vietoris-Rips cohomology of the torus endowed with diferent semi-uniform structures.

In this article, we investigate the topological structure of large scale interacting systems on infinite graphs, by constructing a suitable cohomology which we call the uniform cohomology. The central idea for the construction is the introduction of a class of functions called uniform functions. Uniform cohomology provides a new perspective for the identification of macroscopic observables from the microscopic system. As a straightforward application of our theory when the underlying graph has a free action of a group, we prove a certain decomposition theorem for shift-invariant closed uniform forms. This result is a uniform version in a very general setting of the decomposition result for shift-invariant closed $L^2$-forms originally proposed by Varadhan, which has repeatedly played a key role in the proof of the hydrodynamic limits of nongradient large scale interacting systems. In a subsequent article, we use this result as a key to prove Varadhan's decomposition theorem for a general class of large scale interacting systems.

We investigate strictly developable simple complexes of groups with arbitrary local groups, or equivalently, group actions admitting a strict fundamental domain. We introduce a new method for computing the cohomology of such groups. We also generalise Bestvina's construction to obtain a polyhedral complex equivariantly homotopy equivalent to the standard development of the lowest possible dimension.
As applications, for a group acting chamber transitively on a building of type $(W,S)$, we show that its Bredon cohomological dimension is equal to the virtual cohomological dimension of $W$ and give a realisation of the building of the lowest possible dimension.
We introduce the notion of a reflection-like action, and use it to give a new family of counterexamples to the strong form of Brown's conjecture on the equality of virtual cohomological dimension and Bredon cohomological dimension for proper actions.
We show that the fundamental group $G$ of a simple complex of groups acts on a tree with stabilisers generating a family of subgroups $\mathcal{F}$ if and only if its Bredon cohomological dimension with respect to $\mathcal{F}$ is at most one. This confirms a folklore conjecture under the assumption that a model for the classifying space $E_{\mathcal{F}}G$ of $G$ for the family $\mathcal{F}$ has a strict fundamental domain.
In order to handle complexes of groups arising from arbitrary group actions, we define a number of combinatorial invariants such as the block poset, which may be of independent interest. We also derive a general formula for Bredon cohomological dimension for a group $G$ admitting a cocompact model for $E_{\mathcal{F}}G$. As a consequence of both, we obtain a simple formula for proper cohomological dimension of $\mathrm{CAT}(0)$ groups whose actions admit a strict fundamental domain.

We establish the relationship between the cohomology of a certain sheaf on the intersection lattice of a hyperplane arrangement introduced by Yuzvinsky and the cohomology of the coherent sheaf on punctured affine space, respectively projective space associated to the module of logarithmic vector fields along the arrangement. Our main result gives a Künneth formula connecting the cohomology theories, answering a question by Yoshinaga. This, in turn, provides a characterization of the projective dimension of the module of logarithmic vector fields and yields a new proof of Yuzvinsky's freeness criterion. Furthermore, our approach affords a new formulation of Terao's freeness conjecture and a more general problem.
An affine approach to Peterson comparison

The Peterson comparison formula proved by Woodward relates the three-pointed Gromov-Witten invariants for the quantum cohomology of partial flag varieties to those for the complete flag. Another such comparison can be obtained by composing a combinatorial version of the Peterson isomorphism with a result of Lapointe and Morse relating quantum Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for the Grassmannian to k-Schur analogs in the homology of the affine Grassmannian obtained by adding rim hooks. We show that these comparisons on quantum cohomology are equivalent, up to Postnikov's strange duality isomorphism.

We consider bases for the cohomology space of regular semisimple Hessenberg varieties, consisting of the classes that naturally arise from the Bialynicki-Birula decomposition of the Hessenberg varieties. We give an explicit combinatorial description of the support of each class, which enables us to compute the symmetric group actions on the classes in our bases. We then successfully apply the results to the permutohedral varieties to explicitly write down each class and to construct permutation submodules that constitute summands of a decomposition of cohomology space of each degree. This resolves the problem posed by Stembridge on the geometric construction of permutation module decomposition and also the conjecture posed by Chow on the construction of bases for the equivariant cohomology spaces of permutohedral varieties.

We study the Demazure-Lusztig operators induced by the left multiplication on partial flag manifolds $G/P$. We prove that they generate the Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson classes of Schubert cells (in equivariant cohomology), respectively their motivic Chern classes (in equivariant K theory), in any partial flag manifold. Along the way we advertise many properties of the left and right divided difference operators in cohomology and K theory, and their actions on Schubert classes. We apply this to construct left divided difference operators in equivariant quantum cohomology, and equivariant quantum K theory, generating Schubert classes, and satisfying a Leibniz rule compatible with the quantum product.

In the present paper, we characterize Fano Bott manifolds up to diffeomorphism in terms of three operations on matrix. More precisely, we prove that given two Fano Bott manifolds $X$ and $X'$, the following conditions are equivalent: (1) the upper triangular matrix associated to $X$ can be transformed into that of $X'$ by those three operations; (2) $X$ and $X'$ are diffeomorphic; (3) the integral cohomology rings of $X$ and $X'$ are isomorphic as graded rings. As a consequence, we affirmatively answer the cohomological rigidity problem for Fano Bott manifolds.

One approach to Schubert calculus is to realize Schubert classes as concrete combinatorial objects such as Schubert polynomials. Through an identification of the cohomology ring of the type A full flag variety with the polytope ring of the Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes, Kiritchenko-Smirnov-Timorin realized each Schubert class as a sum of reduced (dual) Kogan faces. In this paper, we explicitly describe string parametrizations of opposite Demazure crystals, which give a natural generalization of reduced dual Kogan faces. We also relate reduced Kogan faces with Demazure crystals using the theory of mitosis operators, and apply these observations to develop the theory of Schubert calculus on symplectic Gelfand-Tsetlin polytopes.

We compute the total cohomology of the complement of the toric arrangement associated to the root system $A_n$ as a representation of the corresponding Weyl group via fixed point theory of a "twisted" action of the group. We also provide several proofs of an explicit formula for the Poincaré polynomial of the complement of the toric arrangement associated with $A_n$.
Hodge theory for tropical varieties
In this paper we prove that the cohomology of smooth projective tropical varieties verify the tropical analogs of three fundamental theorems which govern the cohomology of complex projective varieties: Hard Lefschetz theorem, Hodge-Riemann relations and monodromy-weight conjecture.
On the way to establish these results, we introduce and prove other results of independent interest. This includes a generalization of the results of Adiprasito-Huh-Katz, Hodge theory for combinatorial geometries, to any unimodular quasi-projective fan having the same support as the Bergman fan of a matroid, a tropical analog for Bergman fans of the pioneering work of Feichtner-Yuzvinsky on cohomology of wonderful compactifications (treated in a separate paper, recalled and used here), a combinatorial study of the tropical version of the Steenbrink spectral sequence, a treatment of Kahler forms in tropical geometry and their associated Hodge-Lefschetz structures, a tropical version of the projective bundle formula, and a result in polyhedral geometry on the existence of quasi-projective unimodular triangulations of polyhedral spaces.
Cohomology rings of toric bundles and the ring of conditions

The celebrated BKK Theorem expresses the number of roots of a system of generic Laurent polynomials in terms of the mixed volume of the corresponding system of Newton polytopes.Pukhlikov and the second author noticed that the cohomology ring of smooth projective toric varieties over $\mathbb{C}$ can be computed via the BKK Theorem. This complemented the known descriptions of the cohomology ring of toric varieties, like the one in terms of Stanley-Reisner algebras.
Sankaran and Uma generalized the "Stanley-Reisner description" to the case of toric bundles, i.e. equivariant compactifications of (not necessarily algebraic) torus principal bundles. We provide a description of the cohomology ring of toric bundles which is based on a generalization of the \BKK Theorem, and thus extends the approach by Pukhlikov and the second author. Indeed, for every cohomology class of the base of the toric bundle, we obtain a BKK-type theorem. Furthermore, our proof relies on a description of graded-commutative algebras which satisfy Poincaré duality.
From this computation of the cohomology ring of toric bundles, we obtain a description of the ring of conditions of horospherical homogeneous spaces as well as a version of Brion-Kazarnovskii theorem for them. We conclude the manuscript with a number of examples. In particular, we apply our results to toric bundles over a full flag variety $G/B$. The description that we get generalizes the corresponding description of the cohomology ring of toric varieties as well as the one of full flag varieties $G/B$ previously obtained by Kaveh.

Aguiar and Mahajan introduced a cohomology theory for the twisted coalgebras of Joyal, with particular interest in the computation of their second cohomology group, which gives rise to their deformations. We use the Koszul duality theory between twisted algebras and coalgebras on the twisted coalgebra that gives rise to their cohomology theory to give a new alternative description of it which, in particular, allows for its effective computation. We compute it completely in various examples, including those proposed by Aguiar and Mahajan, and obtain structural results: in particular, we study its multiplicative structure and provide a Künneth formula.
Formal Orthogonal Pairs via Monomial Representations and Cohomology
A Formal Orthogonal Pair is a pair $(A,B)$ of symbolic rectangular matrices such that $AB^T=0$. It can be applied for the construction of Hadamard and Weighing matrices. In this paper we introduce a systematic way for constructing such pairs. Our method involves Representation Theory and Group Cohomology. The orthogonality property is a consequence of non-vanishing maps between certain cohomology groups. This construction has strong connections to the theory of Association Schemes and (weighted) Coherent Configurations. Our techniques are also capable for producing (anti-) amicable pairs. A handful of examples are given.

We compute the expansion of the cohomology class of the permutahedral variety in the basis of Schubert classes. The resulting structure constants $a_w$ are expressed as a sum of \emph{normalized} mixed Eulerian numbers indexed naturally by reduced words of $w$. The description implies that the $a_w$ are positive for all permutations $w\in S_n$ of length $n-1$, thereby answering a question of Harada, Horiguchi, Masuda and Park. We use the same expression to establish the invariance of $a_w$ under taking inverses and conjugation by the longest word, and subsequently establish an intriguing cyclic sum rule for the numbers. We then move toward a deeper combinatorial understanding for the $a_w$ by exploiting in addition the relation to Postnikov's divided symmetrization. Finally, we are able to give a combinatorial interpretation for $a_w$ when $w$ is vexillary, in terms of certain tableau descents. It is based in part on a relation between the numbers $a_w$ and principal specializations of Schubert polynomials. Along the way, we prove results and raise questions of independent interest about the combinatorics of permutations, Schubert polynomials and related objects. We also sketch how to extend our approach to other Lie types, highlighting in particular an identity of Klyachko.
Phase transition in cohomology groups of non-uniform random simplicial complexes

We consider a generalised model of a random simplicial complex, which arises from a random hypergraph. Our model is generated by taking the downward-closure of a non-uniform binomial random hypergraph, in which for each $k$, each set of $k+1$ vertices forms an edge with some probability $p_k$ independently. As a special case, this contains an extensively studied model of a (uniform) random simplicial complex, introduced by Meshulam and Wallach [Random Structures & Algorithms 34 (2009), no. 3, pp. 408-417].
We consider a higher-dimensional notion of connectedness on this new model according to the vanishing of cohomology groups over an arbitrary abelian group $R$. We prove that this notion of connectedness displays a phase transition and determine the threshold. We also prove a hitting time result for a natural process interpretation, in which simplices and their downward-closure are added one by one. In addition, we determine the asymptotic behaviour of cohomology groups inside the critical window around the time of the phase transition.
Expanders and right-angled Artin groups

The purpose of this article is to give a characterization of families of expander graphs via right-angled Artin groups. We prove that a sequence of simplicial graphs $\{Γ_i\}_{i\in\mathbb{N}}$ forms a family of expander graphs if and only if a certain natural mini-max invariant arising from the cup product in the cohomology rings of the groups $\{A(Γ_i)\}_{i\in\mathbb{N}}$ agrees with the Cheeger constant of the sequence of graphs, thus allowing us to characterize expander graphs via cohomology. This result is proved in the more general framework of \emph{vector space expanders}, a novel structure consisting of sequences of vector spaces equipped with vector-space-valued bilinear pairings which satisfy a certain mini-max condition. These objects can be considered to be analogues of expander graphs in the realm of linear algebra, with a dictionary being given by the cup product in cohomology, and in this context represent a different approach to expanders that those developed by Lubotzky-Zelmanov and Bourgain-Yehudayoff.
