The superspace coinvariant ring of type B
Given the rank $n$ superspace $Ω_n$, the ring of polynomial-valued differential forms on $\mathbb C^n$, one can define an action of hyperoctahedral group $\mathfrak B_n$ on it. This leads to a superspace coinvariant ideal $SR_n^B$, defined as the quotient of $Ω_n$ by two-sided ideal generated by all $\mathfrak B_n$ invariants with vanishing constant terms. We derive the Hilbert series of $SR^B_n$ conjectured by Sagan and Swanson, and prove an operator theorem that yields a concrete description of the superharmonic space $SH^B_n$ associated to $SR^B_n$ as conjectured by Swanson and Wallach. We also derive an explicit basis of $SR^B_n$ using the theory of hyperplane arrangements.
Standard multigraded Hibi rings and Cartwright-Sturmfels ideals
In this paper, we introduce standard multigradings on Hibi rings, which are algebras arising from posets. We show that any standard multigrading on a Hibi ring that makes its defining ideal (called the Hibi ideal) homogeneous is induced by a chain of the underlying poset. After that, we calculate the multigraded Hilbert series of Hibi rings by generalizing the theory of $P$-partition and we compute the multidegree polynomials of Hibi rings. Furthermore, we characterize Hibi ideals that are Cartwright-Sturmfels ideals.

We show that a ratio of Schur polynomials $s_λ/s_ρ$ associated to partitions $λ$ and $ρ$ such that $λ\subsetneqρ$ has a negative partial derivative at any point where all variables are positive. This is accomplished by establishing an injective map between sets of pairs of skew semistandard Young tableaux that preserves the product of the corresponding monomials. We use this result and the description of the first Laurent coefficient of the Hilbert series of the graded algebra of regular functions on a linear symplectic quotient by the circle to demonstrate that many such symplectic quotients are not graded regularly diffeomorphic. In addition, we give an upper bound for this Laurent coefficient in terms of the largest two weights of the circle representation and demonstrate that all but finitely many circle symplectic quotients of each dimension are not graded regularly diffeomorphic to linear symplectic quotients by $\operatorname{SU}_2$.
Building sets, Chow rings, and their Hilbert series
We establish formulas for the Hilbert series of the Feichtner--Yuzvinsky Chow ring of a polymatroid using arbitrary building sets. For braid matroids and minimal building sets, our results produce new formulas for the Poincaré polynomial of the moduli space $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{0,n+1}$ of pointed stable rational curves, and recover several previous results by Keel, Getzler, Manin, and Aluffi--Marcolli--Nascimento. We also use our methods to produce examples of matroids and building sets for which the corresponding Chow ring has Hilbert series with non-log-concave coefficients. This contrasts with the real-rootedness and log-concavity conjectures of Ferroni--Schröter for matroids with maximal building sets, and of Aluffi--Chen--Marcolli for braid matroids with minimal building sets.
Invariant theory for wreath products acting on superpolynomials
This paper considers a finite group $G$ acting linearly on the variables $V$ of a polynomial algebra, or an exterior algebra, or superpolynomial algebra with both commuting and anticommuting variables. In this setting, the Hilbert series for the $G$-invariant subalgebra turns out to determine the analogous Hilbert series for the wreath product $P[G]$ acting on $V^n$ for any permutation group $P$ inside the symmetric group $S_n$ on $n$ letters.
This leads to a structural result: one can collate the direct sum for all $n$ of the $S_n[G]$-invariant subalgebras to form a graded ring via an external shuffle product, whose structure turns out to be a superpolynomial algebra generated by the $G$-invariants. A parallel statement holds for the direct sum of all $S_n[G]$-antiinvariants, which forms a graded ring via an external signed shuffle product, isomorphic to the superexterior algebra generated by the $G$-invariants.
Zigzags, contingency tables, and quotient rings
Let $\mathbf{x}_{k \times p}$ be a $k \times p$ matrix of variables and let $\mathbb{F}[\mathbf{x}_{k \times p}]$ be the polynomial ring in these variables. Given two weak compositions $α,β\models_0 n$ of lengths $\ell(α) = k$ and $\ell(β) = p$, we study the ideal $I_{α,β} \subseteq \mathbb{F}[\mathbf{x}_{k \times \ell}]$ generated by row sums, column sums, monomials in row $i$ of degree $> α_i$, and monomials in column $j$ of degree $> β_j$. We prove results connecting algebraic properties of the quotient ring $R_{α,β} := \mathbb{F}[\mathbf{x}_{k \times \ell}]/I_{α,β}$ with the set $C_{α,β}$ of $α,β$-contingency tables. The standard monomial basis of $R_{α,β}$ with respect to a diagonal term order is encoded by the matrix-ball avatar of the RSK correspondence. We describe the Hilbert series of $R_{α,β}$ in terms of a zigzag statistic on contingency tables. The ring $R_{α,β}$ carries a graded action of the product $\mathrm{Stab}(α) \times \mathrm{Stab}(β)$ of symmetry groups of the sequences $α= (α_1,\dots,α_k)$ and $β= (β_1,\dots,β_p)$; we describe how to calculate the isomorphism type of this graded action. Our analysis regards the set $C_{α,β}$ as a locus in the affine space $\mathrm{Mat}_{k \times p}(\mathbb{F})$ and applies orbit harmonics to this locus.
Marked multi-colorings, partially commutative Lie superalgebras and right-angled Coxeter groups
Infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebras, particularly Borcherds-Kac-Moody (BKM) superalgebras, play a fundamental role in mathematical physics, number theory, and representation theory. In this paper, we study the root multiplicities of BKM superalgebras via their denominator identities, deriving explicit combinatorial formulas in terms of graph invariants associated with marked (quasi) Dynkin diagrams. We introduce partially commutative Lie superalgebras (PCLSAs) and provide a direct combinatorial proof of their denominator identity, where the generating set runs over the super heaps monoid. A key notation in our approach is marked multi-colorings and their associated polynomials, which generalize chromatic polynomials and offer a method for computing root multiplicities. As applications, we characterize the roots of PCLSAs and establish connections between their universal enveloping algebras and right-angled Coxeter groups, leading to explicit formulas for their Hilbert series. These results further deepen the interplay between Lie superalgebras, graph theory, and algebraic combinatorics.
The free and parking quasi-symmetrizing actions
We define two actions of the infinite symmetric group on the set of words on positive integers, called the free and parking quasi-symmetrizing actions, whose invariants are respectively the elements of the Hopf algebras $\textbf{FQSym}^*$ and $\textbf{PQSym}^*$. We study in depth the parking quasi-symmetrizing action by generalizing it to actions with a parameter $r\in(\mathbb{N}\setminus \{0\} )\bigcup\{\infty\}$. We prove that the spaces of the invariants under these $r$-actions form an infinite chain of nested graded Hopf subalgebras of $\textbf{PQSym}^*$. We give some properties of these Hopf algebras including their Hilbert series, a basis, and formulas for their product and coproduct. Finally we look more closely at the case $r=\infty$, obtaining enumerative results related to trees with maximal decreasing subtrees of given sizes.
Roller Coaster Gorenstein algebras and Koszul algebras failing the weak Lefschetz property
Inspired by the Roller Coaster Theorem from graph theory, we prove the existence of artinian Gorenstein algebras with unconstrained Hilbert series, which we call Roller Coaster algebras. Our construction relies on Nagata idealization of quadratic monomial algebras defined by whiskered graphs. The monomial algebras are interesting in their own right, as our results suggest that artinian level algebras defined by quadratic monomial ideals rarely have the weak Lefschetz property. In addition, we discover a large family of G-quadratic Gorenstein algebras failing the weak Lefschetz property.
Tor Groups of the Stanley-Reisner Ring of a Matroid
We introduce the Tor groups $ \mathop{Tor}_{\bullet}^{S_{\mathrm{M}}^{\circ}} \left( \mathbb{C}[Σ_{\mathrm{M}}], \mathbb{C} \right)_{\bullet} $ for a loopless matroid $\mathrm{M}$ as a way to study the extra relations occurring in the linear ideal of the Feichtner-Yuzvinsky presentation of the Chow ring $ A^{\bullet}(\mathrm{M}) $. This extends the definition of the Chow ring of a matroid since $ \mathop{Tor}_{0}^{S_{\mathrm{M}}^{\circ}} \left( \mathbb{C}[Σ_{\mathrm{M}}], \mathbb{C} \right)_{\bullet} \cong A^{\bullet}(\mathrm{M}) $. Our main tool in studying these groups is to recognize them as cohomology of the toric variety associated to the Bergman fan of the matroid. With this geometric approach, we show that these Tor groups fit into a long exact sequence arising from the matroidal flips of Adiprasito, Huh, and Katz, extending the short exact sequence in the case of Chow rings. Using this long exact sequence we give a recursive formula for the Hilbert series of the Tor algebra of a uniform matroid.
An algebraic interpretation of Eulerian polynomials, derangement polynomials, and beyond, via Gröbner methods
Motivated by the question of whether Chow polynomials of matroids have only real roots, this article revisits the known relationship between Eulerian polynomials and the Hilbert series of Chow rings of permutohedral varieties. This is done using a quadratic Gröbner basis associated to a new presentation of those rings, which is obtained by iterating the semi-small decomposition of Chow rings of matroids. This Gröbner basis can also be applied to compute certain principal ideals in these rings, and ultimately reestablish the known connection between derangement polynomials and the Hilbert series of Chow rings for corank 1 uniform matroids. More broadly, this approach enables us to express the Hilbert series of Chow rings for any uniform matroid as polynomials related to the ascent statistics on particular sets of inversion sequences.
Hall-Littlewood polynomials, affine Schubert series, and lattice enumeration
We introduce multivariate rational generating series called Hall-Littlewood-Schubert ($\mathsf{HLS}_n$) series. They are defined in terms of polynomials related to Hall-Littlewood polynomials and semistandard Young tableaux. We show that $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series provide solutions to a range of enumeration problems upon judicious substitutions of their variables. These include the problem to enumerate sublattices of a $p$-adic lattice according to the elementary divisor types of their intersections with the members of a complete flag of reference in the ambient lattice. This is an affine analog of the stratification of Grassmannians by Schubert varieties. Other substitutions of $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield new formulae for Hecke series and $p$-adic integrals associated with symplectic $p$-adic groups, and combinatorially defined quiver representation zeta functions. $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series are $q$-analogs of Hilbert series of Stanley-Reisner rings associated with posets arising from parabolic quotients of Coxeter groups of type $\mathsf{B}$ with the Bruhat order. Special values of coarsened $\mathsf{HLS}_n$ series yield analogs of the classical Littlewood identity for the generating functions of Schur polynomials.
Involution matrix loci and orbit harmonics
Let $\mathrm{Mat}_{n \times n}(\mathbb{C})$ be the affine space of $n \times n$ complex matrices with coordinate ring $\mathbb{C}[\mathbf{x}_{n \times n}]$. We define graded quotients of $\mathbb{C}[\mathbf{x}_{n \times n}]$ which carry an action of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ by simultaneous permutation of rows and columns. These quotient rings are obtained by applying the orbit harmonics method to matrix loci corresponding to all involutions in $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and the conjugacy classes of involutions in $\mathfrak{S}_n$ with a given number of fixed points. In the case of perfect matchings on $\{1, \dots, n\}$ with $n$ even, the Hilbert series of our quotient ring is related to Tracy-Widom distributions and its graded Frobenius image gives a refinement of the plethysm $s_{n/2}[s_2]$.
On Modular Invariants of Truncated Polynomial Rings in low ranks
We verify the conjectures due to Lewis, Reiner and Stanton about the Hilbert series of the invariant ring of the truncated polynomial ring for all parabolic subgroups up to rank $3$. This is done by constructing an explicit set of generators for each invariant ring in question. We also propose a conjecture concerning the action of the Steenrod algebra and the Dickson algebra on a certain naturally occurring filtration of the invariant ring under the general linear group.
Stirling numbers for complex reflection groups
In an earlier paper, we defined and studied q-analogues of the Stirling numbers of both types for the Coxeter group of type B. In the present work, we show how this approach can be extended to all irreducible complex reflection groups G. The Stirling numbers of the first and second kind are defined via the Whitney numbers of the first and second kind, respectively, of the intersection lattice of G. For the groups G(m,p,n), these numbers and polynomials can be given combinatorial interpretations in terms of various statistics. The ordered version of ths q-Stirling numbers of the second kind also show up in conjectured Hilbert series for certain super coinvariant algebras.
Weighted Borel Generators
Strongly stable ideals are a class of monomial ideals which correspond to generic initial ideals in characteristic zero and can be described completely by their Borel generators, a subset of the minimal monomial generators of the ideal. Francisco, Mermin, and Schweig developed formulas for the Hilbert series and Betti numbers of strongly stable ideals in terms of their Borel generators. In this work, a specialization of strongly stable ideals is presented which further restricts the subset of relevant generators. A choice of weight vector $w\in\mathbb{N}_{> 0}^n$ restricts the set of strongly stable ideals to a subset designated as $w$-stable ideals. This restriction further compresses the Borel generators to a subset termed the weighted Borel generators of the ideal. A new Macaulay2 package wStableIdeals.m2 has been developed alongside this paper and segments of code support computations within.
Bizonotopal Graphical Algebras
Zonotopal algebras (external, central, and internal) of an undirected graph G introduced by Postnikov-Shapiro and Holtz-Ron, are finite-dimensional commutative graded algebras whose Hilbert series contain a wealth of combinatorial information about G. In this paper, we associate to G a new family of algebras, which we call bizonotopal, because their definition involves doubling the set of edges of G. These algebras are monomial and have intricate properties related, among other things, to the combinatorics of graphical parking functions and their polytopes.
Unlike the case of usual zonotopal algebras, the Hilbert series of bizonotopal algebras are not specializations of the Tutte polynomial of G. Still, we show that in the external and central cases these Hilbert series satisfy a modified deletion-contraction relation. In addition, we prove that the external bizonotopal algebra is a complete graph invariant.
Harmonics and graded Ehrhart theory
The Ehrhart polynomial and Ehrhart series count lattice points in integer dilations of a lattice polytope. We introduce and study a $q$-deformation of the Ehrhart series, based on the notions of harmonic spaces and Macaulay's inverse systems for coordinate rings of finite point configurations. We conjecture that this $q$-Ehrhart series is a rational function, and introduce and study a bigraded algebra whose Hilbert series matches the $q$-Ehrhart series. Defining this algebra requires a new result on Macaulay inverse systems for Minkowski sums of point configurations.
Jets and principal components of monomial ideals, and very well-covered graphs
Motivated by using combinatorics to study jets of monomial ideals, we extend a definition of jets from graphs to clutters. We offer some structural results on their vertex covers, and show an interesting connection between the cover ideal of the jets of a clutter and the symbolic powers of the cover ideal of the original clutter. We use this connection to prove that jets of very well-covered graphs are very well-covered. Next, we turn our attention to principal jets of monomial ideals, describing their primary decomposition and minimal generating sets. Finally, we give formulas to compute various algebraic invariants of principal jets of monomial ideals, including their Hilbert series, Betti numbers, multiplicity and regularity.

We study the Hilbert series and the representations of $\mathfrak{S}_n$ and $GL_n(\mathbb{F}_q)$ on the (augmented) Chow rings of uniform matroids $U_{r,n}$ and $q$-uniform matroids $U_{r,n}(q)$. The Frobenius series for uniform matroids and their $q$-analogs are computed. As a byproduct, we recover Hameister, Rao, and Simpson's formula for the Hilbert series of Chow rings of $q$-uniform matroids in terms of permutations and further obtain their augmented counterpart in terms of decorated permutations.
We also show that the equivariant Charney--Davis quantity of the (augmented) Chow ring of a matroid is nonnegative (i.e., a genuine representation of a group of automorphisms of the matroid). When the matroid is a uniform matroid and the group is $\mathfrak{S}_n$, the representation either vanishes or is a Foulkes representation (i.e., a Specht module of a ribbon shape). Specializing to the usual Charney--Davis quantities, we obtain an elegant combinatorial interpretation of Hameister, Rao, and Simpson's formula for Chow rings of $q$-uniform matroids and its augmented counterpart.
