Connectivity of 1d random geometric graphs
A 1d random geometric graph (1d RGG) is built by joining a random sample of $n$ points from an interval of the real line with probability $p$. We count the number of $k$-hop paths between two vertices of the graph in the case where the space is the 1d interval $[0,1]$. We show how the $k$-hop path count between two vertices at Euclidean distance $|x-y|$ is in bijection with the volume enclosed by a uniformly random $d$-dimensional lattice path joining the corners of a $(k-1)$-dimensional hyperrectangular lattice. We are able to provide the probability generating function and distribution of this $k$-hop path count as a sum over lattice paths, incorporating the idea of restricted integer partitions with limited number of parts. We therefore demonstrate and describe an important link between spatial random graphs, and lattice path combinatorics, where the $d$-dimensional lattice paths correspond to spatial permutations of the geometric points on the line.
Generalised regularisation maps on partitions
In a 1976 landmark paper, Gordon James defined the regularisation maps on integer partition, yielding certain decomposition numbers for modular representations of $\mathfrak{S}_n$. We describe a generalisation of James's regularisation map and give with proof an algorithm for such maps in the abacus.

The $k$-measure of an integer partition was recently introduced by Andrews, Bhattacharjee and Dastidar. In this paper, we establish trivariate generating function identities counting both the length and the $k$-measure for partitions and distinct partitions, respectively. The $2$-measure case for partitions extends a result of Andrews, Bhattacharjee and Dastidar.

We give a proof of a recent combinatorial conjecture due to the first author, which was discovered in the framework of commutative algebra. This result gives rise to new companions to the famous Andrews-Gordon identities. Our tools involve graded quotient rings, Durfee squares and rectangles for integer partitions, and $q$-series identities.

For a set of positive integers $A$, let $p_A(n)$ denote the number of ways to write $n$ as a sum of integers from $A$, and let $p(n)$ denote the usual partition function. In the early 40s, Erdős extended the classical Hardy--Ramanujan formula for $p(n)$ by showing that $A$ has density $α$ if and only if $\log p_A(n) \sim \log p(αn)$. Nathanson asked if Erdős's theorem holds also with respect to $A$'s lower density, namely, whether $A$ has lower-density $α$ if and only if $\log p_A(n) / \log p(αn)$ has lower limit $1$. We answer this question negatively by constructing, for every $α> 0$, a set of integers $A$ of lower density $α$, satisfying $$ \liminf_{n \rightarrow \infty} \frac{\log p_A(n)}{\log p(αn)} \geq \left(\frac{\sqrt{6}}π-o_α(1)\right)\log(1/α)\;. $$ We further show that the above bound is best possible (up to the $o_α(1)$ term), thus determining the exact extremal relation between the lower density of a set of integers and the lower limit of its partition function. We also prove an analogous theorem with respect to the upper density of a set of integers, answering another question of Nathanson.
Chain decompositions of q,t-Catalan numbers: tail extensions and flagpole partitions

This article is part of an ongoing investigation of the combinatorics of $q,t$-Catalan numbers $\textrm{Cat}_n(q,t)$. We develop a structure theory for integer partitions based on the partition statistics dinv, deficit, and minimum triangle height. Our goal is to decompose the infinite set of partitions of deficit $k$ into a disjoint union of chains $\mathcal{C}_μ$ indexed by partitions of size $k$. Among other structural properties, these chains can be paired to give refinements of the famous symmetry property $\textrm{Cat}_n(q,t)=\textrm{Cat}_n(t,q)$. Previously, we introduced a map that builds the tail part of each chain $\mathcal{C}_μ$. Our first main contribution here is to extend this map to construct larger second-order tails for each chain. Second, we introduce new classes of partitions called flagpole partitions and generalized flagpole partitions. Third, we describe a recursive construction for building the chain $\mathcal{C}_μ$ for a (generalized) flagpole partition $μ$, assuming that the chains indexed by certain specific smaller partitions (depending on $μ$) are already known. We also give some enumerative and asymptotic results for flagpole partitions and their generalized versions.

We identify a class of "semi-modular" forms invariant on special subgroups of $GL_2(\mathbb Z)$, which includes classical modular forms together with complementary classes of functions that are also nice in a specific sense. We define an Eisenstein-like series summed over integer partitions, and use it to construct families of semi-modular forms.

We construct weight-preserving bijections between column strict shifted plane partitions with one row and alternating sign trapezoids with exactly one column in the left half that sums to $1$. Amongst other things, they relate the number of $-1$s in the alternating sign trapezoids to certain elements in the column strict shifted plane partitions that generalise the notion of special parts in descending plane partitions. The advantage of these bijections is that they include configurations with $-1$s, which is a feature that many of the bijections in the realm of alternating sign arrays lack.
Linked partition ideals and Euclidean billiard partitions

Euclidean billiard partitions were recently introduced by Andrews, Dragovic and Radnovic in their study of periodic trajectories of ellipsoidal billiards in the Euclidean space. They are integer partitions into distinct parts such that (E1) adjacent parts are never both odd; (E2) the smallest part is even. By refining the framework of linked partition ideals, we establish a couple of relevant trivariate generating function identities, from which the result of Andrews, Dragovic and Radnovic follows as an immediate consequence.
Maximum entropy and integer partitions

We derive asymptotic formulas for the number of integer partitions with given sums of $j$th powers of the parts for $j$ belonging to a finite, non-empty set $J \subset \mathbb N$. The method we use is based on the `principle of maximum entropy' of Jaynes. This principle leads to an intuitive variational formula for the asymptotics of the logarithm of the number of constrained partitions as the solution to a convex optimization problem over real-valued functions.

We investigate the standard context, denoted by $\mathbb{K}\left(\mathcal{L}_{n}\right)$, of the lattice $\mathcal{L}_{n}$ of partitions of a positive integer $n$ under the dominance order. Motivated by the discrete dynamical model to study integer partitions by Latapy and Duong Phan and by the characterization of the supremum and (infimum) irreducible partitions of $n$ by Brylawski, we show how to construct the join-irreducible elements of $\mathcal{L}_{n+1}$ from $\mathcal{L}_{n}$. We employ this construction to count the number of join-irreducible elements of $\mathcal{L}_{n}$, and show that the number of objects (and attributes) of $\mathbb{K}\left(\mathcal{L}_{n}\right)$ has order $Θ(n^2)$.

We study two families of probability measures on integer partitions, which are Schur measures with parameters tuned in such a way that the edge fluctuations are characterized by a critical exponent different from the generic $1/3$. We find that the first part asymptotically follows a "higher-order analogue" of the Tracy-Widom GUE distribution, previously encountered by Le Doussal, Majumdar and Schehr in quantum statistical physics. We also compute limit shapes, and discuss an exact mapping between one of our families and the multicritical unitary matrix models introduced by Periwal and Shevitz.
A new order on integer partitions
Considering Schur positivity of differences of plethysms of homogeneous symmetric functions, we introduce a new relation on integer partitions. This relation is conjectured to be a partial order, with its restriction to one part partitions equivalent to the classical Foulkes conjecture. We establish some of the properties of this relation via the construction of explicit inclusion of modules whose characters correspond to the plethysms considered. We also prove some stability properties for the number of irreducible occurring in these modules as $n$ grows.
Partition-theoretic formulas for arithmetic densities, II

In earlier work generalizing a 1977 theorem of Alladi, the authors proved a partition-theoretic formula to compute arithmetic densities of certain subsets of the positive integers $\mathbb N$ as limiting values of $q$-series as $q\to ζ$ a root of unity (instead of using the usual Dirichlet series to compute densities), replacing multiplicative structures of $\mathbb N$ by analogous structures in the integer partitions $\mathcal P$. In recent work, Wang obtains a wide generalization of Alladi's original theorem, in which arithmetic densities of subsets of prime numbers are computed as values of Dirichlet series arising from Dirichlet convolutions. Here the authors prove that Wang's extension has a partition-theoretic analogue as well, yielding new $q$-series density formulas for any subset of $\mathbb N$. To do so, we outline a theory of $q$-series density calculations from first principles, based on a statistic we call the "$q$-density" of a given subset. This theory in turn yields infinite families of further formulas for arithmetic densities.

For each integer partition $\mathbf{q}$ with $d$ parts, we denote by $Δ_{(1,\mathbf{q})}$ the lattice simplex obtained as the convex hull in $\mathbb{R}^d$ of the standard basis vectors along with the vector $-\mathbf{q}$. For $\mathbf{q}$ with two distinct parts such that $Δ_{(1,\mathbf{q})}$ is reflexive and has the integer decomposition property, we establish a characterization of the lattice points contained in $Δ_{(1,\mathbf{q})}$. We then construct a Gröbner basis with a squarefree initial ideal of the toric ideal defined by these simplices. This establishes the existence of a regular unimodular triangulation for reflexive 2-supported $Δ_{(1,\mathbf{q})}$ having the integer decomposition property.
Generalizations of Alder's Conjecture via a Conjecture of Kang and Park

Integer partitions have long been of interest to number theorists, perhaps most notably Ramanujan, and are related to many areas of mathematics including combinatorics, modular forms, representation theory, analysis, and mathematical physics. Here, we focus on partitions with gap conditions and partitions with parts coming from fixed residue classes.
Let $Δ_d^{(a,b)}(n) = q_d^{(a)}(n) - Q_d^{(b)}(n)$ where $q_d^{(a)}(n)$ counts the number of partitions of $n$ into parts with difference at least $d$ and size at least $a$, and $Q_d^{(b)}(n)$ counts the number of partitions into parts $\equiv \pm b \pmod{d + 3}$. In 1956, Alder conjectured that $Δ_d^{(1,1)}(n) \geq 0$ for all positive $n$ and $d$. This conjecture was proved partially by Andrews in 1971, by Yee in 2008, and was fully resolved by Alfes, Jameson and Lemke Oliver in 2011. Alder's conjecture generalizes several well-known partition identities, including Euler's theorem that the number of partitions of $n$ into odd parts equals the number of partitions of $n$ into distinct parts, as well as the first of the famous Rogers-Ramanujan identities.
In 2020, Kang and Park constructed an extension of Alder's conjecture which relates to the second Rogers-Ramanujan identity by considering $Δ_d^{(a,b,-)}(n) = q_d^{(a)}(n) - Q_d^{(b,-)}(n)$ where $Q_d^{(b,-)}(n)$ counts the number of partitions into parts $\equiv \pm b \pmod{d + 3}$ excluding the $d+3-b$ part. Kang and Park conjectured that $Δ_d^{(2,2,-)}(n)\geq 0$ for all $d\geq 1$ and $n\geq 0$, and proved this for $d = 2^r - 2$ and $n$ even.
We prove Kang and Park's conjecture for all but finitely many $d$. Toward proving the remaining cases, we adapt work of Alfes, Jameson and Lemke Oliver to generate asymptotics for the related functions. Finally, we present a more generalized conjecture for higher $a=b$ and prove it for infinite classes of $n$ and $d$.
Dyson's Crank and the Mex of Integer Partitions

Andrews and Newman have recently introduced the notion of the mex of a partition, the smallest positive integer that is not a part. The concept has been used since at least 2011, though, with connections to Frobenius symbols. Recently the parity of the mex has been associated to the crank statistic named by Dyson in 1944. In this note, we extend and strengthen the connection between the crank and mex (along with a new generaliztion of the mex) by proving a number of properties that naturally relate these partition statistics.
Eulerian series, zeta functions and the arithmetic of partitions
In this Ph.D. dissertation (2018, Emory University) we prove theorems at the intersection of the additive and multiplicative branches of number theory, bringing together ideas from partition theory, $q$-series, algebra, modular forms and analytic number theory. We present a natural multiplicative theory of integer partitions (which are usually considered in terms of addition), and explore new classes of partition-theoretic zeta functions and Dirichlet series -- as well as "Eulerian" $q$-hypergeometric series -- enjoying many interesting relations. We find a number of theorems of classical number theory and analysis arise as particular cases of extremely general combinatorial structure laws. Among our applications, we prove explicit formulas for the coefficients of the $q$-bracket of Bloch-Okounkov, a partition-theoretic operator from statistical physics related to quasi-modular forms; we prove partition formulas for arithmetic densities of certain subsets of the integers, giving $q$-series formulas to evaluate the Riemann zeta function; we study $q$-hypergeometric series related to quantum modular forms and the "strange" function of Kontsevich; and we show how Ramanujan's odd-order mock theta functions (and, more generally, the universal mock theta function $g_3$ of Gordon-McIntosh) arise from the reciprocal of the Jacobi triple product via the $q$-bracket operator, connecting also to unimodal sequences in combinatorics and quantum modular-like phenomena.

We show that every ridge unfolding of an $n$-cube is without self-overlap, yielding a valid net. The results are obtained by developing machinery that translates cube unfolding into combinatorial frameworks. Moreover, the geometry of the bounding boxes of these cube nets are classified using integer partitions, as well as the combinatorics of path unfoldings seen through the lens of chord diagrams.

For positive integers $s$ and $L \geq 3$, Berkovich and Uncu (Ann. Comb. $23$ ($2019$) $263$--$284$) conjectured an inequality between the sizes of two closely related sets of partitions whose parts lie in the interval $\{s, \ldots, L+s\}$. Further restrictions are placed on the sets by specifying impermissible parts as well as a minimum part. The authors proved their conjecture for the cases $s=1$ and $s=2$. In the present article, we prove the conjecture for general $s$ by proving a stronger theorem. We also prove other related conjectures found in the same paper.
