A combinatorial proof of the supper symmetric property of hook length
There are $k$ kinds of length $k$ hooks with different arm length. Actually, this $k$ kinds appear uniformly in Young diagrams of size $n$. The property ``appear uniformly'' is called super symmetric. We give a combinatorial proof of the supper symmetric property of hook length.

Hook-content formula using excited Young diagrams
We construct a hook-content formula and its $q$-analog using excited Young diagrams analogous to Naruse's hook-length formula for skew shapes. Furthermore, we show that our hook-content formula has a simple factorization and give some conjectures and questions related to its $q$-analog.

Hook inequalities
We give an elementary proof of the recent hook inequality given in [MPP3]: $\prod_{u\in λ} h(u) \, \le \, \prod_{u\in λ} h^\ast(u),$ where $h(u)$ is the usual hook in Young diagram $λ$, and $h^\ast(i,j)=i+j-1$. We then obtain a large variety of similar inequalities and their high-dimensional generalizations.

Uglov bipartitions and extended Young diagrams
We study the class of Uglov bipartitions and prove a generalization of a conjecture by Dipper, James and Murphy. We give two consequences concerning the computation of canonical bases in affine type A and the description of decomposition matrices for Hecke algebras of type Bn in arbitrary characteristic.
New edge asymptotics of skew Young diagrams via free boundaries
Published in Séminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire, 82B.34 (2019), Proceedings of the 31st Conference on Formal Power Series and Algebraic Combinatorics (Ljubljana) • Search Publication
We study edge asymptotics of poissonized Plancherel-type measures on skew Young diagrams (integer partitions). These measures can be seen as generalizations of those studied by Baik--Deift--Johansson and Baik--Rains in resolving Ulam's problem on longest increasing subsequences of random permutations and the last passage percolation (corner growth) discrete versions thereof. Moreover they interpolate between said measures and the uniform measure on partitions. In the new KPZ-like 1/3 exponent edge scaling limit with logarithmic corrections, we find new probability distributions generalizing the classical Tracy--Widom GUE, GOE and GSE distributions from the theory of random matrices.

A Note on Covering Young Diagrams with Applications to Local Dimension of Posets
We prove that in every cover of a Young diagram with $\binom{2k}{k}$ steps with generalized rectangles there is a row or a column in the diagram that is used by at least $k+1$ rectangles. We show that this is best-possible by partitioning any Young diagram with $\binom{2k}{k}-1$ steps into actual rectangles, each row and each column used by at most $k$ rectangles. This answers two questions by Kim et al. (2018). Our results can be rephrased in terms of local covering numbers of difference graphs with complete bipartite graphs, which has applications in the recent notion of local dimension of partially ordered sets.

Character polynomials for two rows and hook partitions
Representation theory of the symmetric group $\mathfrak{S}_n$ has a very distinctive combinatorial flavor. The conjugacy classes as well as the irreducible characters are indexed by integer partitions $λ\vdash n$. We introduce class functions on $\mathfrak{S}_n$ that count the number of certain tilings of Young diagrams. The counting interpretation gives a uniform expression of these class functions in the ring of character polynomials, as defined by \cite{murnaghanfirst}. A modern treatment of character polynomials is given in \cite{orellana-zabrocki}. We prove a relation between these combinatorial class functions in the (virtual) character ring. From this relation, we were able to prove Goupil's generating function identity \cite{goupil}, which can then be used to derive Rosas' formula \cite{rosas} for Kronecker coefficients of hook shape partitions and two row partitions.

Randomized Schützenberger's jeu de taquin and approximate calculation of co-transition probabilities of a central Markov process on the 3D Young graph
There exists a well-known hook-length formula for calculating the dimensions of 2D Young diagrams. Unfortunately, the analogous formula for 3D case is unknown. We introduce an approach for calculating the estimations of dimensions of three-dimensional Young diagrams also known as plane partitions. The most difficult part of this task is the calculation of co-transition probabilities for a central Markov process. We propose an algorithm for approximate calculation of these probabilities. It generates numerous random paths to a given diagram. In case the generated paths are uniformly distributed, the proportion of paths passing through a certain branch gives us an approximate value of the co-transition probability. As our numerical experiments show, the random generator based on the randomized variant of the Schützenberger transformation allows to obtain accurate values of co-transition probabilities. Also a method to construct 3D Young diagrams with large dimensions is proposed.

Linear versus spin: representation theory of the symmetric groups
Published in Algebraic Combinatorics, Volume 3 (2020) no. 1, pp. 249-280 • View PublicationBIB
We relate the linear asymptotic representation theory of the symmetric groups to its spin counterpart. In particular, we give explicit formulas which express the normalized irreducible spin characters evaluated on a strict partition $ξ$ with analogous normalized linear characters evaluated on the double partition $D(ξ)$. We also relate some natural filtration on the usual (linear) Kerov-Olshanski algebra of polynomial functions on the set of Young diagrams with its spin counterpart. Finally, we give a spin counterpart to Stanley formula for the characters of the symmetric groups.

Limit shape of minimal difference partitions and fractional statistics
Published in Communications in Mathematical Physics (2019). https://doi.org/10.1007/s00220-019-03513-5 • View PublicationBIB
The class of minimal difference partitions MDP($q$) (with gap $q$) is defined by the condition that successive parts in an integer partition differ from one another by at least $q\ge 0$. In a recent series of papers by A. Comtet and collaborators, the MDP($q$) ensemble with uniform measure was interpreted as a combinatorial model for quantum systems with fractional statistics, that is, interpolating between the classic Bose-Einstein ($q=0$) and Fermi-Dirac ($q=1$) cases. This was done by formally allowing values $q \in (0,1)$ using an analytic continuation of the limit shape of the corresponding Young diagrams calculated for integer $q$. To justify this "replica-trick", we introduce a more general model based on a variable MDP-type condition encoded by an integer sequence $(q_i)$, whereby the (limiting) gap $q$ is naturally interpreted as the Cesàro mean of $(q_i)$. In this model, we find the family of limit shapes parameterized by $q \in [0,\infty)$ confirming the earlier answer, and also obtain the asymptotics of the number of parts.

Quantum Information Processing and Composite Quantum Fields
Published • View PublicationBIB
Some beautiful identities involving hook contents of Young diagrams have been found in the field of quantum information processing, along with a combinatorial proof. We here give a representation theoretic proof of these identities and a number of generalizations. Our proof is based on trace identities for elements belonging to a class of permutation centralizer algebras. These algebras have been found to underlie the combinatorics of composite gauge invariant operators in quantum field theory, with applications in the AdS/CFT correspondence. Based on these algebras, we discuss some analogies between quantum information processing tasks and the combinatorics of composite quantum fields and argue that this can be fruitful interface between quantum information and quantum field theory, with implications for AdS/CFT.

Large deviations and one-sided scaling limit of randomized multicolor box-ball system
Published • View PublicationBIB
The basic $κ$-color box-ball (BBS) system is an integrable cellular automaton on one dimensional lattice whose local states take $\{0,1,\cdots,κ\}$ with $0$ regarded as an empty box. The time evolution is defined by a combinatorial rule of quantum group theoretical origin, and the complete set of conserved quantities is given by a $κ$-tuple of Young diagrams. In the randomized BBS, a probability distribution on $\{0,1,\cdots,κ\}$ to independently fill the consecutive $n$ sites in the initial state induces a highly nontrivial probability measure on the $κ$-tuple of those invariant Young diagrams. In a recent work \cite{kuniba2018randomized}, their large $n$ `equilibrium shape' has been determined in terms of Schur polynomials by a Markov chain method and also by a very different approach of Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz (TBA). In this paper, we establish a large deviations principle for the row lengths of the invariant Young diagrams. As a corollary, they are shown to converge almost surely to the equilibrium shape at an exponential rate. We also refine the TBA analysis and obtain the exact scaling form of the vacancy, the row length and the column multiplicity, which exhibit nontrivial factorization in a one-parameter specialization.

The norm and the evaluation of the Macdonald polynomials in superspace
We demonstrate the validity of previously conjectured explicit expressions for the norm and the evaluation of the Macdonald polynomials in superspace. These expressions, which involve the arm-lengths and leg-lengths of the cells in certain Young diagrams, specialize to the well known formulas for the norm and the evaluation of the usual Macdonald polynomials.

Representation stability of the cohomology of Springer varieties and some combinatorial consequences
Published in Journal of Algebraic Combinatorics, 53 No.3 (2021), 897--920 • View PublicationBIB
A sequence of $S_n$-representations $\{V_n\}$ is said to be uniformly representation stable if the decomposition of $V_n = \bigoplus_μ c_{μ,n} V(μ)_n$ into irreducible representations is independent of $n$ for each $μ$---that is, the multiplicities $c_{μ,n}$ are eventually independent of $n$ for each $μ$. Church-Ellenberg-Farb proved that the cohomology of flag varieties (the so-called diagonal coinvariant algebra) is uniformly representation stable. We generalize their result from flag varieties to all Springer fibers. More precisely, we show that for any increasing subsequence of Young diagrams, the corresponding sequence of Springer representations form a graded co-FI-module of finite type (in the sense of Church-Ellenberg-Farb). We also explore some combinatorial consequences of this stability.

Crystal structures for symmetric Grothendieck polynomials
Published in Transform. Groups 26(3):1025-1075, 2021 • View PublicationBIB
The symmetric Grothendieck polynomials representing Schubert classes in the $K$-theory of Grassmannians are generating functions for semistandard set-valued tableaux. We construct a type $A_n$ crystal structure on these tableaux. This crystal yields a new combinatorial formula for decomposing symmetric Grothendieck polynomials into Schur polynomials. For single-columns and single-rows, we give a new combinatorial interpretation of Lascoux polynomials (K-analogs of Demazure characters) by constructing a K-theoretic analog of crystals with an appropriate analog of a Demazure crystal. We relate our crystal structure to combinatorial models using excited Young diagrams, Gelfand-Tsetlin patterns via the $5$-vertex model, and biwords via Hecke insertion to compute symmetric Grothendieck polynomials.

Counting partitions inside a rectangle
Published • View PublicationBIB
We consider the number of partitions of $n$ whose Young diagrams fit inside an $m \times \ell$ rectangle; equivalently, we study the coefficients of the $q$-binomial coefficient $\binom{m+\ell}{m}_q$. We obtain sharp asymptotics throughout the regime $\ell = Θ(m)$ and $n = Θ(m^2)$. Previously, sharp asymptotics were derived by Takács only in the regime where $|n - \ell m /2| = O(\sqrt{\ell m (\ell + m)})$ using a local central limit theorem. Our approach is to solve a related large deviation problem: we describe the tilted measure that produces configurations whose bounding rectangle has the given aspect ratio and is filled to the given proportion. Our results are sufficiently sharp to yield the first asymptotic estimates on the consecutive differences of these numbers when $n$ is increased by one and $m, \ell$ remain the same, hence significantly refining Sylvester's unimodality theorem.

BPS operators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ $SO(N)$ super Yang-Mills theory: plethysms, dominoes and words
Published in JHEP 11 (2018) 035 • View PublicationBIB
Permutations and associated algebras allow the construction of half and quarter BPS operators in maximally supersymmetric Yang Mills theory with $U(N)$, $SO(N)$ and $Sp(N) $ gauge groups. The construction leads to bases for the operators, labelled by Young diagrams and associated group theory data, which have been shown to be orthogonal under the inner product defined by the free field two-point functions. In this paper, we study in detail the orientifold projection map between the Young diagram basis for $U(N)$ theories and the Young diagram basis for $ SO(N)$ (and $ Sp(N)$) half-BPS operators. We find a simple connection between this map and the plethystic refinement of the Littlewood Richardson coefficients which couple triples of Young diagrams where two of them are identical. This plethystic refinement is known to be computable using an algorithm based on domino tilings of Young diagrams. We discuss the domino combinatorics of the orientifold projection map in terms of giant graviton branes. The permutation construction of $SO(N)$ operators is used to find large N generating functions. The structure of these generating functions is elucidated using the combinatorics of words, organised according to their periodicity. Aperiodic words in the $U(N)$ theory are Lyndon words and an $SO(N)$ analogue of Lyndon words is defined using a minimal periodicity condition. We calculate the normalization factor for the orthogonal basis of Young diagram operators in the baryonic sector of $SO(N)$.

Dimer model, bead model and standard Young tableaux: finite cases and limit shapes
The bead model is a random point field on $\mathbb{Z}\times\mathbb{R}$ which can be viewed as a scaling limit of dimer model. We prove that, in the scaling limit, the normalized height function of a uniformly chosen random bead configuration lies in an arbitrarily small neighborhood of a surface $h_0$ that maximizes some functional which we call as entropy. We also prove that the limit shape $h_0$ is a scaling limit of the limit shapes of a properly chosen sequence of dimer models. There is a map from bead configurations to standard tableaux of a (skew) Young diagram, and the map preserves uniform measures, and our results of the bead model yield the existence of the limit shape of a random standard Young tableau.

Lecture hall tableaux

We introduce lecture hall tableaux, which are fillings of a skew Young diagram satisfying certain conditions. Lecture hall tableaux generalize both lecture hall partitions and anti-lecture hall compositions, and also contain reverse semistandard Young tableaux as a limit case. We show that the coefficients in the Schur expansion of multivariate little $q$-Jacobi polynomials are generating functions for lecture hall tableaux. Using a Selberg-type integral we show that moments of multivariate little $q$-Jacobi polynomials, which are equal to generating functions for lecture hall tableaux of a Young diagram, have a product formula. We also explore various combinatorial properties of lecture hall tableaux.

A Spin Analogue of Kerov Polynomials
Published in SIGMA 14 (2018), 053, 13 pages • View PublicationBIB
Kerov polynomials describe normalized irreducible characters of the symmetric groups in terms of the free cumulants associated with Young diagrams. We suggest well-suited counterparts of the Kerov polynomials in spin (or projective) representation settings. We show that spin analogues of irreducible characters are polynomials in even free cumulants associated with double diagrams of strict partitions. Moreover, we present a conjecture for the positivity of their coefficients.
