We present a statistical mechanical model whose random variables are solid partitions, i.e. Young diagrams built by stacking up four dimensional hypercubes. Equivalently, it can be viewed as the model of random tessellations of ${\bf R}^{3}$ by squashed cubes of four fixed orientations. The model computes the refined index of a system of D0-branes in the presence of $D8$-$\overline{D8}$ system, with a $B$-field strong enough to support the bound states. Mathematically, it is the equivariant K-theoretic version of integration over the Hilbert scheme of points on ${\bf C}^{4}$ and its higher rank analogues, albeit the definition is real, not complex analytic. The model is a mother of all random partition models, including the equivariant Donaldson-Thomas theory and the four dimensional instanton counting. Finally, a version of our model with infinite solid partitions with four fixed plane partition asymptotics is the vertex contribution to the equivariant count of instantons on toric Calabi-Yau fourfolds.
The conjectured partition function of the model is presented. We have checked it up to six instantons (which is one step beyond the checks of the celebrated P.~MacMahon's failed conjectures of the early XX century). A specialization of the formula is our earlier (2004) conjecture on the equivariant K-theoretic Donaldson-Thomas theory, proven by A.~Okounkov in 2015.

We study a shift action defined on multipartitions and on residue multisets of their Young diagrams. We prove that the minimal orbit cardinality among all multipartitions associated to a given multiset depends only on the orbit cardinality of the multiset. Using abaci, this problem reduces to a convex optimisation problem over the integers with linear constraints. We solve it by proving an existence theorem for binary matrices with prescribed row, column and block sums. Finally, we give some applications to the representation theory of the Hecke algebra of the complex reflection group $G(r,p,n)$.

Young diagrams are fundamental combinatorial objects in representation theory and algebraic geometry. Many constructions that rely on these objects depend on variations of a straightening process that expresses a filling of a Young diagram as a sum of semistandard tableaux subject to certain relations. This paper solves the long standing open problem of giving a non-iterative formula for straightening a filling. We apply our formula to give a complete generalization of a theorem of Gonciulea and Lakshmibai.

The Tamari lattices have been intensely studied since their introduction by Dov Tamari around 1960. However oddly enough, a formula for the number of maximal chains is still unknown. This is due largely to the fact that maximal chains in the $n$-th Tamari lattice $\mathcal{T}_{n}$ range in length from $n-1$ to ${n \choose 2}$. In this note, we treat vertices in the lattice as Young diagrams and identify maximal chains as certain tableaux. For each $i\geq-1$, we define $\mathcal{C}_{i}(n)$ as the set of maximal chains in $\mathcal{T}_{n}$ of length $n+i$. We give a recursion for $\#\mathcal{C}_{i}(n)$ and an explicit formula based on predetermined initial values. The formula is a polynomial in $n$ of degree $3i+3$. For example, the number of maximal chains of length $n$ in $\mathcal{T}_{n}$ is $\#\mathcal{C}_{0}(n)={n \choose 3}$. The formula has a combinatorial interpretation in terms of a special property of maximal chains.
Box polynomials and the excedance matrix
We consider properties of the box polynomials, a one variable polynomial defined over all integer partitions $λ$ whose Young diagrams fit in an $m$ by $n$ box. We show that these polynomials can be expressed by the finite difference operator applied to the power $x^{m+n}$. Evaluating box polynomials yields a variety of identities involving set partition enumeration. We extend the latter identities using restricted growth words and a new operator called the fast Fourier operator, and consider connections between set partition enumeration and the chromatic polynomial on graphs. We also give connections between the box polynomials and the excedance matrix, which encodes combinatorial data from a noncommutative quotient algebra motivated by the recurrence for the excedance set statistic on permutations.

We show that the counting of observables and correlators for a 3-index tensor model are organized by the structure of a family of permutation centralizer algebras. These algebras are shown to be semi-simple and their Wedderburn-Artin decompositions into matrix blocks are given in terms of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients of symmetric groups. The matrix basis for the algebras also gives an orthogonal basis for the tensor observables which diagonalizes the Gaussian two-point functions. The centres of the algebras are associated with correlators which are expressible in terms of Kronecker coefficients (Clebsch-Gordan multiplicities of symmetric groups). The color-exchange symmetry present in the Gaussian model, as well as a large class of interacting models, is used to refine the description of the permutation centralizer algebras. This discussion is extended to a general number of colors $d$: it is used to prove the integrality of an infinite family of number sequences related to color-symmetrizations of colored graphs, and expressible in terms of symmetric group representation theory data. Generalizing a connection between matrix models and Belyi maps, correlators in Gaussian tensor models are interpreted in terms of covers of singular 2-complexes. There is an intriguing difference, between matrix and higher rank tensor models, in the computational complexity of superficially comparable correlators of observables parametrized by Young diagrams.

We consider a long-range growth dynamics on the two-dimensional integer lattice, initialized by a finite set of occupied points. Subsequently, a site $x$ becomes occupied if the pair consisting of the counts of occupied sites along the entire horizontal and vertical lines through $x$ lies outside a fixed Young diagram $\mathcal{Z}$. We study the extremal quantity $μ(\mathcal{Z})$, the maximal finite time at which the lattice is fully occupied. We give an upper bound on $μ(\mathcal{Z})$ that is linear in the area of the bounding rectangle of $\mathcal{Z}$, and a lower bound $\sqrt{s-1}$, where $s$ is the side length of the largest square contained in $\mathcal{Z}$. We give more precise results for a restricted family of initial sets, and for a simplified version of the dynamics.
The Waldspurger Transform of Permutations and Alternating Sign Matrices
In 2005 J.L. Waldspurger proved the following theorem: given a finite real reflection group $W$, the closed positive root cone is tiled by the images of the open weight cone under the action of the linear transformations $id-w$. Shortly thereafter E. Meinrencken extended the result to affine Weyl groups. P.V. Bibikov and V.S. Zhgoon then gave a uniform proof for a discrete reflection group acting on a simply-connected space of constant curvature.
In this paper we show that the Waldspurger and Meinrenken theorems of type A give a new perspective on the combinatorics of the symmetric group. In particular, for each permutation matrix $w \in \mathfrak{S}_n$ we define a non-negative integer matrix $\mathbf{WT}(w)$, called the Waldspurger transform of $w$. The definition of the matrix $\mathbf{WT}(w)$ is purely combinatorial but its columns are the images of the fundamental weights under the action of $id-w$, expressed in simple root coordinates. The possible columns of $\mathbf{WT}(w)$ (which we call UM vectors) are in bijection with many interesting structures including: unimodal Motzkin paths, abelian ideals in nilradical of the Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sl}_n(\mathbb{C})$, Young diagrams with maximum hook length $n$, and integer points inside a certain polytope.
We show that the sum of the entries of $\mathbf{WT}(w)$ is equal to half the entropy of the corresponding permutation $w$, which is known to equal the rank of $w$ in the Dedekind-MacNeille completion of the Bruhat order. Inspired by this, we extend the Waldpurger transform $\mathbf{WT}(M)$ to alternating sign matrices $M$ and give an intrinsic characterization of the image. This provides a geometric realization of Dedekind-MacNeille completion of the Bruhat order (a.k.a. the lattice of alternating sign matrices).

We give a new simple characterization of the set of Kleshchev multipartitions, and more generally of the set of Uglov multipartitions. These combinatorial objects play an important role in various areas of representation theory of quantum groups, Hecke algebras or finite reductive groups. As a consequence, we obtain a proof of a generalization of a conjecture by Dipper, James and Murphy and a generalization of the LLT algorithm for arbitrary level.

In this paper, we consider the soliton cellular automaton introduced in [Takahashi 1990] with a random initial configuration. We give multiple constructions of a Young diagram describing various statistics of the system in terms of familiar objects like birth-and-death chains and Galton-Watson forests. Using these ideas, we establish limit theorems showing that if the first $n$ boxes are occupied independently with probability $p\in(0,1)$, then the number of solitons is of order $n$ for all $p$, and the length of the longest soliton is of order $\log n$ for $p<1/2$, order $\sqrt{n}$ for $p=1/2$, and order $n$ for $p>1/2$. Additionally, we uncover a condensation phenomenon in the supercritical regime: For each fixed $j\geq 1$, the top $j$ soliton lengths have the same order as the longest for $p\leq 1/2$, whereas all but the longest have order at most $\log n$ for $p>1/2$. As an application, we obtain scaling limits for the lengths of the $k^{\text{th}}$ longest increasing and decreasing subsequences in a random stack-sortable permutation of length $n$ in terms of random walks and Brownian excursions.
On the $1/3-2/3$ Conjecture

Let $(P,\leq)$ be a finite poset (partially ordered set), where $P$ has cardinality $n$. Consider linear extensions of $P$ as permutations $x_1x_2\cdots x_n$ in one-line notation. For distinct elements $x,y\in P$, we define $\mathbb{P}(x\prec y)$ to be the proportion of linear extensions of $P$ in which $x$ comes before $y$. For $0\leq α\leq \frac{1}{2}$, we say $(x,y)$ is an $α$-balanced pair if $α\leq \mathbb{P}(x\prec y) \leq 1-α.$ The $1/3-2/3$ Conjecture states that every finite partially ordered set which is not a chain has a $1/3$-balanced pair. We make progress on this conjecture by showing that it holds for certain families of posets. These include lattices such as the Boolean, set partition, and subspace lattices; partial orders that arise from a Young diagram; and some partial orders of dimension $2$. We also consider various posets which satisfy the stronger condition of having a $1/2$-balanced pair. For example, this happens when the poset has an automorphism with a cycle of length $2$. Various questions for future research are posed.
Skew Howe duality and random rectangular Young tableaux

We consider the decomposition into irreducible components of the external power $Λ^p(\mathbb{C}^m\otimes \mathbb{C}^n)$ regarded as a $\operatorname{GL}_m\times\operatorname{GL}_n$-module. Skew Howe duality implies that the Young diagrams from each pair $(λ,μ)$ which contributes to this decomposition turn out to be conjugate to each other, i.e.~$μ=λ'$. We show that the Young diagram $λ$ which corresponds to a randomly selected irreducible component $(λ,λ')$ has the same distribution as the Young diagram which consists of the boxes with entries $\leq p$ of a random Young tableau of rectangular shape with $m$ rows and $n$ columns. This observation allows treatment of the asymptotic version of this decomposition in the limit as $m,n,p\to\infty$ tend to infinity.

We consider the asymmetric simple exclusion process (ASEP) on the positive integers with an open boundary condition. We show that, when starting devoid of particles and for a certain boundary condition, the height function at the origin fluctuates asymptotically (in large time $τ$) according to the Tracy-Widom GOE distribution on the $τ^{1/3}$ scale. This is the first example of KPZ asymptotics for a half-space system outside the class of free-fermionic/determinantal/Pfaffian models.
Our main tool in this analysis is a new class of probability measures on Young diagrams that we call half-space Macdonald processes, as well as two surprising relations. The first relates a special (Hall-Littlewood) case of these measures to the half-space stochastic six-vertex model (which further limits to ASEP) using a Yang-Baxter graphical argument. The second relates certain averages under these measures to their half-space (or Pfaffian) Schur process analogs via a refined Littlewood identity.

We introduce a large class of random Young diagrams which can be regarded as a natural one-parameter deformation of some classical Young diagram ensembles; a deformation which is related to Jack polynomials and Jack characters. We show that each such a random Young diagram converges asymptotically to some limit shape and that the fluctuations around the limit are asymptotically Gaussian.
Limit shapes of stable configurations of a generalized Bulgarian solitaire
Bulgarian solitaire is played on $n$ cards divided into several piles; a move consists of picking one card from each pile to form a new pile. In a recent generalization, $σ$-Bulgarian solitaire, the number of cards you pick from a pile is some function $σ$ of the pile size, such that you pick $σ(h)\le h$ cards from a pile of size $h$. Here we consider a special class of such functions. Let us call $σ$ well-behaved if $σ(1)=1$ and if both $σ(h)$ and $h-σ(h)$ are non-decreasing functions of $h$. Well-behaved $σ$-Bulgarian solitaire has a geometric interpretation in terms of layers at certain levels being picked in each move. It also satisfies that if a stable configuration of $n$ cards exists it is unique. Moreover, if piles are sorted in order of decreasing size ($λ_1 \ge λ_2\ge \dots$) then a configuration is convex if and only if it is a stable configuration of some well-behaved $σ$-Bulgarian solitaire. If sorted configurations are represented by Young diagrams and scaled down to have unit height and unit area, the stable configurations corresponding to an infinite sequence of well-behaved functions ($σ_1, σ_2, \dots$) may tend to a limit shape $φ$. We show that every convex $φ$ with certain properties can arise as the limit shape of some sequence of well-behaved $σ_n$. For the special case when $σ_n(h)=\lceil q_n h \rceil$ for $0 < q_n \le 1$, these limit shapes are triangular (in case $q_n^2 n\rightarrow 0$), or exponential (in case $q_n^2 n\rightarrow \infty$), or interpolating between these shapes (in case $q_n^2 n\rightarrow C>0$).
Expansion of permutations as products of transpositions
We compute the number of ways a given permutation can be written as a product of exactly $k$ transpositions. We express this number as a linear combination of explicit geometric sequences, with coefficients which can be computed in many particular cases. Along the way we prove several symmetry properties for matrices associated with bipartite graphs, as well as some general (likely known) properties of Young diagrams. The methods involve linear algebra, enumeration of border strip tableau, and a differential operator on symmetric polynomials.
BPS/CFT Correspondence III: Gauge Origami partition function and qq-characters

We study generalized gauge theories engineered by taking the low energy limit of the $Dp$ branes wrapping $X \times T^{p-3}$, with $X$ a possibly singular surface in a Calabi-Yau fourfold $Z$. For toric $Z$ and $X$ the partition function can be computed by localization, making it a statistical mechanical model, called the gauge origami. The random variables are the ensembles of Young diagrams. The building block of the gauge origami is associated with a tetrahedron, whose edges are colored by vector spaces. We show the properly normalized partition function is an entire function of the Coulomb moduli, for generic values of the $Ω$-background parameters. The orbifold version of the theory defines the $qq$-character operators, with and without the surface defects. The analytic properties are the consequence of a relative compactness of the moduli spaces $M({\vec n}, k)$ of crossed and spiked instantons, demonstrated in arXiv:1608.07272.

The theory of pictures between posets is known to encode much of the combinatorics of symmetric group representations and related topics such as Young diagrams and tableaux. Many reasons, com-binatorial (e.g. since semi-standard tableaux can be viewed as double quasi-posets) and topological (quasi-posets identify with finite topolo-gies) lead to extend the theory to quasi-posets. This is the object of the present article.
Macdonald symmetry at $q=1$ and a new class of inv-preserving bijections on words
We give a direct combinatorial proof of the $q,t$-symmetry relation $\tilde H_μ(X;q,t)=\tilde H_{μ'}(X;t,q)$ in the Macdonald polynomials $\tilde H_μ$ at the specialization $q=1$. The bijection demonstrates that the Macdonald inv statistic on the permutations of any given row of a Young diagram filling is Mahonian. Moreover, our bijection gives rise a family of new bijections on words that preserves the classical Mahonian inv statistic.

We initiate the study of general neighborhood growth dynamics on two dimensional Hamming graphs. The decision to add a point is made by counting the currently occupied points on the horizontal and the vertical line through it, and checking whether the pair of counts lies outside a fixed Young diagram. We focus on two related extremal quantities. The first is the size of the smallest set that eventually occupies the entire plane. The second is the minimum of an energy-entropy functional that comes from the scaling of the probability of eventual full occupation versus the density of the initial product measure within a rectangle. We demonstrate the existence of this scaling and study these quantities for large Young diagrams.
