We give closed product formulas for the irreducible characters of the symmetric groups related to rectangular `almost square' Young diagrams $p \times(p+δ)$ for a fixed value of an integer $δ$ and an arbitrary integer $p$.
Skew RSK dynamics: Greene invariants, affine crystals and applications to $q$-Whittaker polynomials

Iterating the skew RSK correspondence discovered by Sagan and Stanley in the late '80s, we define a deterministic dynamics on the space of pairs of skew Young tableaux $(P,Q)$. We find that this skew RSK dynamics displays conservation laws which, in the picture of Viennot's shadow line construction, identify generalizations of Greene invariants.
The introduction of a novel realization of $0$-th Kashiwara operators reveals that the skew RSK dynamics possesses symmetries induced by an affine bicrystal structure,
which, combined with connectedness properties of Demazure crystals, leads to its linearization.
Studying asymptotic evolution of the dynamics started from a pair of skew tableaux $(P,Q)$, we discover a new bijection $Υ: (P,Q) \mapsto (V,W; κ, ν)$. Here $(V,W)$ is a pair of
vertically strict tableaux, i.e., column strict filling of Young diagrams with no condition on rows, with shape prescribed by the Greene invariant, $κ$ is an array of non-negative weights and $ν$ is a partition.
An application of this construction is the first bijective proof of Cauchy and Littlewood identities involving $q$-Whittaker polynomials. New identities relating sums of $q$-Whittaker and Schur polynomials are also presented.

A remarkable result at the intersection of number theory and group theory states that the order of a finite group $G$ (denoted $|G|$) is divisible by the dimension $d_R$ of any irreducible complex representation of $G$. We show that the integer ratios ${ |G|^2 / d_R^2 } $ are combinatorially constructible using finite algorithms which take as input the amplitudes of combinatoric topological strings ($G$-CTST) of finite groups based on 2D Dijkgraaf-Witten topological field theories ($G$-TQFT2). The ratios are also shown to be eigenvalues of handle creation operators in $G$-TQFT2/$G$-CTST. These strings have recently been discussed as toy models of wormholes and baby universes by Marolf and Maxfield, and Gardiner and Megas. Boundary amplitudes of the $G$-TQFT2/$G$-CTST provide algorithms for combinatoric constructions of normalized characters. Stringy S-duality for closed $G$-CTST gives a dual expansion generated by disconnected entangled surfaces. There are universal relations between $G$-TQFT2 amplitudes due to the finiteness of the number $K $ of conjugacy classes. These relations can be labelled by Young diagrams and are captured by null states in an inner product constructed by coupling the $G$-TQFT2 to a universal TQFT2 based on symmetric group algebras. We discuss the scenario of a 3D holographic dual for this coupled theory and the implications of the scenario for the factorization puzzle of 2D/3D holography raised by wormholes in 3D.
Quadratic coefficients of Goulden-Rattan character polynomials

Goulden-Rattan polynomials give the exact value of the subdominant part of the normalized characters of the symmetric groups in terms of certain quantities ($C_i$) which describe the macroscopic shape of the Young diagram. The Goulden-Rattan positivity conjecture states that the coefficients of these polynomials are positive rational numbers with small denominators. We prove a special case of this conjecture for the coefficient of the quadratic term $C_2^2$ by applying certain bijections involving maps (i.e., graphs drawn on surfaces).
An explicit order matching for $L(3,n)$ from several approaches and its extension for $L(4,n)$
Let $L(m,n)$ denote Young's lattice consisting of all partitions whose Young diagrams are contained in the $m\times n$ rectangle. It is a well-known result that the poset $L(m,n)$ is rank symmetric, rank unimodal, and Sperner. A direct proof of this result by finding an explicit order matching of $L(m,n)$ is an outstanding open problem. In this paper, we present an explicit order matching $\varphi$ for $L(3,n)$ by several different approaches, and give chain tableau version of $\varphi$ that is very helpful in finding patterns. It is surprise that the greedy algorithm and a recursive knead process also give the same order matching. Our methods extend for $L(4,n)$.
Naruse hook formula for linear extensions of mobile posets

Linear extensions of posets are important objects in enumerative and algebraic combinatorics that are difficult to count in general. Families of posets like Young diagrams of straight shapes and $d$-complete posets have hook-length product formulas to count linear extensions, whereas families like Young diagrams of skew shapes have determinant or positive sum formulas like the Naruse hook-length formula from 2014. In 2020, Garver et. al. gave determinant formulas to count linear extensions of a family of posets called mobile posets that refine $d$-complete posets and border strip skew shapes. We give a Naruse type hook-length formula to count linear extensions of such posets by proving a major index $q$-analogue. We also a inversion index $q$-analogue of the Naruse formula for mobile tree posets.
Comparing weighted difference and earth mover's distance via Young diagrams

We consider two natural statistics on pairs of histograms, in which the $n$ bins have weights $0, \ldots, n-1$. The difference ($\mathbf{D}$) between the weighted totals of the histograms is, in a sense, refined by the earth mover's distance ($\mathbf{EMD}$), which measures the amount of work required to equalize the histograms. We were recently surprised, however, by how little $\mathbf{EMD}$ actually does refine $\mathbf{D}$ in certain real-world applications, which led to the main problem in this paper: what is the probability that $\mathbf{EMD} = |\mathbf{D}|$? We derive a formula for this probability, as well as the expected value of $|\mathbf{D}|$, via the combinatorics of Young diagrams and plane partitions. We then generalize our results to an arbitrary number of histograms, where we realize this higher-dimensional $\mathbf{D}$ as distance on the Type-A root lattice.
Ribbon tiling and character formula for periplectic Lie superalgebras
We give a combinatorial formula for the character of a finite-dimensional irreducible representation of the periplectic Lie superalgebra $\mathfrak{p}(n)$. The character of irreducible module $L(μ)$ is given by a cancellation-free alternating sum over the characters of thick or thin Kac modules, $Δ(λ)$ or $\nabla(λ)$, such that there exists a ribbon tiling of a skew Young diagram $λ/μ$.
LLT cumulants of unicellular Young diagrams, parking functions and Schur positivity
We give a combinatorial formula for LLT cumulants of unicellular unilevelled shapes in terms of parking functions and Cayley trees. Our formula implies previously conjectured Schur positivity.

To any Young diagram we can associate the multiset of residues of all its nodes. This paper is concerned with the inverse problem: given a multiset of elements of Z/eZ, does it comes from a Young diagram? We give a full solution in level one and a partial answer in higher levels for Young multidiagrams, using Fayers's notions of core block and weight of a multipartition. We apply the result in level one to study a shift operation on partitions.
A Quantized Analogue of the Markov-Krein Correspondence

We study a family of measures originating from the signatures of the irreducible components of representations of the unitary group, as the size of the group goes to infinity. Given a random signature $λ$ of length $N$ with counting measure $\mathbf{m}$, we obtain a random signature $μ$ of length $N-1$ through projection onto a unitary group of lower dimension. The signature $μ$ interlaces with the signature $λ$, and we record the data of $μ,λ$ in a random rectangular Young diagram $w$. We show that under a certain set of conditions on $λ$, both $\mathbf{m}$ and $w$ converge as $N\to\infty$. We provide an explicit moment generating function relationship between the limiting objects. We further show that the moment generating function relationship induces a bijection between bounded measures and certain continual Young diagrams, which can be viewed as a quantized analogue of the Markov-Krein correspondence.
Symmetric and Pseudo-Symmetric Numerical Semigroups via Young Diagrams and Their Semigroup Rings
This paper studies Young diagrams of symmetric and pseudo-symmetric numerical semigroups and describes new operations on Young diagrams as well as numerical semigroups. These provide new decompositions of symmetric and pseudo-symmetric semigroups into an over semigroup and its dual. It is also given exactly for what kind of numerical semigroup $S$, the semigroup ring $\Bbbk[\![S]\!]$ has at least one Gorenstein subring and has at least one Kunz subring.
A Robinson-Schensted Correspondence for Partial Permutations
We study the Steinberg variety associated to matrix Schubert varieties, and develop a Robinson-Schensted type correspondence, $τ\leftrightarrow(Λ,\mathsf Q,\mathsf P)$. Here $τ$ is a partial permutation of size $p\times q$, $Λ$ an admissible signed Young diagram of size $p+q$, and $\mathsf P$ (resp. $\mathsf Q$) a standard Young tableau of size $p$ (resp. $q$) whose shape is determined by $Λ$. By embedding the matrix Schubert variety into a Schubert variety, we find a close relationship between the combinatorics of the classical Robinson-Schensted-Knuth correspondence and our bijection. We also show that an involution $(Λ,\mathsf Q,\mathsf P)\mapsto(Λ^\vee,\mathsf P,\mathsf Q)$ corresponds to projective duality on matrix Schubert varieties.

We define solvable quantum mechanical systems on a Hilbert space spanned by bipartite ribbon graphs with a fixed number of edges. The Hilbert space is also an associative algebra, where the product is derived from permutation group products. The existence and structure of this Hilbert space algebra has a number of consequences. The algebra product, which can be expressed in terms of integer ribbon graph reconnection coefficients, is used to define solvable Hamiltonians with eigenvalues expressed in terms of normalized characters of symmetric group elements and degeneracies given in terms of Kronecker coefficients, which are tensor product multiplicities of symmetric group representations. The square of the Kronecker coefficient for a triple of Young diagrams is shown to be equal to the dimension of a sub-lattice in the lattice of ribbon graphs. This leads to an answer to the long-standing question of a combinatoric interpretation of the Kronecker coefficients. As an avenue to explore quantum supremacy and its implications for computational complexity theory, we outline experiments to detect non-vanishing Kronecker coefficients for hypothetical quantum realizations/simulations of these quantum systems. The correspondence between ribbon graphs and Belyi maps leads to an interpretation of these quantum mechanical systems in terms of quantum membrane world-volumes interpolating between string geometries.
Limit shapes of large skew Young tableaux and a modification of the TASEP process
We present a survey of points of view on the problem of the asymptotic shape of a path between two large Young diagrams, and introduce a modification of the TASEP process related to it. This representation allows to write explicitly the functional, counting the asymptotics of the number of Young tableau close to a given one, as well as to see the sine-process on the boundary shape of a large random Young diagram.
Traces on diagram algebras II: Centralizer algebras of easy groups and new variations of the Young graph

In continuation of our recent work arXiv:2006.07312, we classify the extremal traces on infinite diagram algebras that appear in the context of Schur-Weyl duality for Banica and Speicher's easy groups. We show that the branching graphs of these algebras describe walks on new variations of the Young graph which describe curious ways of growing Young diagrams. As a consequence, we prove that the extremal traces on generic rook-Brauer algebras are always extensions of extremal traces on the group algebra $\mathbb{C}[S_{\infty}]$ of the infinite symmetric group. Moreover, we conjecture that the same is true for generic parameter deformations of the centralizers of the hyperoctahedral group and we reduce this conjecture to a conceptually much simpler numerical statement. Lastly, we address the trace classification problem for the Schur-Weyl dual of the halfliberated orthogonal group $O_N^*$, in which case extremal traces are always extensions of extremal traces on $\mathbb{C}[S_{\infty} \times S_{\infty}]$. Our approach relies on methods developed by Vershik and Nikitin.
McKay quivers and Lusztig algebras of some finite groups

We are interested in the McKay quiver $Γ(G)$ and skew group rings $A*G$, where $G$ is a finite subgroup of $\mathrm{GL}(V)$, where $V$ is a finite dimensional vector space over a field $K$, and $A$ is a $K-G$-algebra. These skew group rings appear in Auslander's version of the McKay correspondence.
In the first part of this paper we consider complex reflection groups $G \subseteq \mathrm{GL}(V)$ and find a combinatorial method, making use of Young diagrams, to construct the McKay quivers for the groups $G(r,p,n)$. We first look at the case $G(1,1,n)$, which is isomorphic to the symmetric group $S_n$, followed by $G(r,1,n)$ for $r >1$. Then, using Clifford theory, we can determine the McKay quiver for any $G(r,p,n)$ and thus for all finite irreducible complex reflection groups up to finitely many exceptions.
In the second part of the paper we consider a more conceptual approach to McKay quivers of arbitrary finite groups: we define the Lusztig algebra $\widetilde A(G)$ of a finite group $G \subseteq \mathrm{GL}(V)$, which is Morita equivalent to the skew group ring $A*G$. This description gives us an embedding of the basic algebra Morita equivalent to $A*G$ into a matrix algebra over $A$.

We consider the problem of finding a Young diagram minimizing the sum of evaluations of a given pair of functions on the parts of the associated pair of conjugate partitions. While there are exponentially many diagrams, we show it is polynomial time solvable.
Complementary Numerical Sets
A numerical set $S$ is a cofinite subset of $\mathbb{N}$ which contains $0$. We use the natural bijection between numerical sets and Young diagrams to define a numerical set $\widetilde{S}$, such that their Young diagrams are complements. We determine various properties of $\widetilde{S}$, particularly with an eye to closure under addition (for both $S$ and $\widetilde{S}$), which promotes a numerical set to become a numerical semigroup.

The skew Schubert polynomials are those which are indexed by skew elements of the Weyl group, in the sense of arXiv:0812.0639. We obtain tableau formulas for the double versions of these polynomials in all four classical Lie types, where the tableaux used are fillings of the associated skew Young diagram. These are the first such theorems for symplectic and orthogonal Schubert polynomials, even in the single case. We also deduce tableau formulas for double Schur, double theta, and double eta polynomials, in their specializations as double Grassmannian Schubert polynomials. The latter results generalize the tableau formulas for symmetric (and single) Schubert polynomials due to Littlewood (in type A) and the author (in types B, C, and D).
