In this paper, we present a vertex operator approach to construct and compute all complex irreducible characters of the general linear group $\GL_n(\mathbb F_q)$. Green's theory of $\GL_n(\mathbb F_q)$ is recovered and enhanced under the realization of the Grothendieck ring of representations $R_G=\bigoplus_{n\geq 0}R(\GL_n(\mathbb F_q))$ as two isomorphic Fock spaces associated to two infinite-dimensional $F$-equivariant Heisenberg Lie algebras $\widehat{\mathfrak{h}}_{\hat{\overline{\mathbb F}}_q}$ and $\widehat{\mathfrak{h}}_{\overline{\mathbb F}_q}$, where $F$ is the Frobenius automorphism of the algebraically closed field $\overline{\mathbb F}_q$. Under this picture, the irreducible characters are realized by the Bernstein vertex operators for Schur functions, the characteristic functions of the conjugacy classes are realized by the vertex operators for the Hall-Littlewood functions, and the character table is completely given by matrix coefficients of vertex operators of these two types. One of the features of the current approach is a simpler identification of the Fock space $R_G$ as the Hall algebra of symmetric functions via vertex operator calculus, and another is that we are able to compute in general the character table, where Green's degree formula is demonstrated as an example.
Structure of quasi-crystal graphs and applications to the combinatorics of quasi-symmetric functions
Crystal graphs are powerful combinatorial tools for working with the plactic monoid and symmetric functions. Quasi-crystal graphs are an analogous concept for the hypoplactic monoid and quasi-symmetric functions. This paper makes a combinatorial study of these objects. We explain a previously-observed isomorphism of components of the quasi-crystal graph, and provide an explicit description using a new combinatorial structure called a quasi-array. Then two conjectures of Maas-Gariépy on the interaction of fundamental quasi-symmetric functions and Schur functions and on the arrangement of quasi-crystal components within crystal components are answered, the former positively, the latter negatively.
Descent representations and colored quasisymmetric functions
The quasisymmetric generating function of the set of permutations whose inverses have a fixed descent set is known to be symmetric and Schur-positive. The corresponding representation of the symmetric group is called the descent representation. In this paper, we provide an extension of this result to colored permutation groups, where Gessel's fundamental quasisymmetric functions are replaced by Poirier's colored quasisymmetric functions. For this purpose, we introduce a colored analogue of zigzag shapes and prove that the representations associated with these shapes coincide with colored descent representations studied by Adin, Brenti and Roichman in the case of two colors and Bagno and Biagioli in the general case. Additionally, we provide a colored analogue of MaMahon's alternating formula which expresses ribbon Schur functions in the basis of complete homogeneous symmetric functions.
On the Kronecker product of Schur functions of square shapes
Motivated by the Saxl conjecture and the tensor square conjecture, which states that the tensor squares of certain irreducible representations of the symmetric group contain all irreducible representations, we study the tensor squares of irreducible representations associated with square Young diagrams. We give a formula for computing Kronecker coefficients, which are indexed by two square partitions and a three-row partition, specifically one with a short second row and the smallest part equal to 1. We also prove the positivity of square Kronecker coefficients for particular families of partitions, including three-row partitions and near-hooks.

Duchamp--Hivert--Thibon introduced the construction of a right $H_n(0)$-module, denoted as $M_P$, for any partial order $P$ on the set $[n]$. This module is defined by specifying a suitable action of $H_n(0)$ on the set of linear extensions of $P$. In this paper, we refer to this module as the poset module associated with $P$. Firstly, we show that $\bigoplus_{n \ge 0} G_0(\mathscr{P}(n))$ has a Hopf algebra structure that is isomorphic to the Hopf algebra of quasisymmetric functions, where $\mathscr{P}(n)$ is the full subcategory of $\textbf{mod-}H_n(0)$ whose objects are direct sums of finitely many isomorphic copies of poset modules and $G_0(\mathscr{P}(n))$ is the Grothendieck group of $\mathscr{P}(n)$. We also demonstrate how (anti-)automorphism twists interact with these modules, the induction product and restrictions. Secondly, we investigate the (type 1) quasisymmetric power sum expansion of some quasi-analogues $Y_α$ of Schur functions, where $α$ is a composition. We show that they can be expressed as the sum of the $P$-partition generating functions of specific posets, which allows us to utilize the result established by Liu--Weselcouch. Additionally, we provide a new algorithm for obtaining these posets. Using these findings, for the dual immaculate function and the extended Schur function, we express the coefficients appearing in the quasisymmetric power sum expansions in terms of border strip tableaux.
A raising operator formula for Macdonald polynomials
We give an explicit raising operator formula for the modified Macdonald polynomials $\tilde{H}_{μ}(X;q,t)$, which follows from our recent formula for $\nabla$ on an LLT polynomial and the Haglund-Haiman-Loehr formula expressing modified Macdonald polynomials as sums of LLT polynomials. Our method just as easily yields a formula for a family of symmetric functions $\tilde{H}^{1,n}(X;q,t)$ that we call $1,n$-Macdonald polynomials, which reduce to a scalar multiple of $\tilde{H}_μ(X;q,t)$ when $n=1$. We conjecture that the coefficients of $1,n$-Macdonald polynomials in terms of Schur functions belong to $\mathbb{N}[q,t]$, generalizing Macdonald positivity.
Large deviations for the $q$-deformed polynuclear growth

In this paper, we study large time large deviations for the height function $\mathfrak{h}(x,t)$ of the $q$-deformed polynuclear growth introduced in ABW22 [arXiv:2108.06018]. We show that the upper-tail deviations have speed $t$ and derive an explicit formula for the rate function $Φ_+(μ)$. On the other hand, we show that the lower-tail deviations have speed $t^2$ and express the corresponding rate function $Φ_-(μ)$ in terms of a variational problem. Our analysis relies on distributional identities between the height function $\mathfrak{h}$ and two important measures on the set of integer partitions: the Poissonized Plancherel measure and the cylindric Plancherel measure. Following a scheme developed in DT21 [arXiv:1910.09271], we analyze a Fredholm determinant representation for the $q$-Laplace transform of $\mathfrak{h}(x,t)$, from which we extract exact Lyapunov exponents and through inversion the upper-tail rate function $Φ_+$. The proof of the lower-tail large deviation principle is more subtle and requires several novel ideas which combine classical asymptotic results for the Plancherel measure and log-concavity properties of Schur polynomials. Techniques we develop to characterize the lower-tail are rather flexible and have the potential to generalize to other solvable growth models.
Flagged Skew Schur Polynomials Twisted By Roots Of Unity
We generalize a theorem of Littlewood concerning the factorization of Schur polynomials when their variables are twisted by roots of unity. We show that a certain family of flagged skew Schur polynomials admit a similar factorization. These include an interesting family of Demazure characters as a special case.
Some combinatorial interpretations of the Macdonald identities for affine root systems and Nekrasov--Okounkov type formulas
We explore some connections between vectors of integers and integer partitions seen as bi-infinite words. This methodology enables us on the one hand to obtain enumerations connecting products of hook lengths and vectors of integers. This yields on the other hand a combinatorial interpretation of the Macdonald identities for affine root systems of the $7$ infinite families in terms of Schur functions, symplectic and special orthogonal Schur functions. From these results, we are able to derive $q$-Nekrasov--Okounkov formulas associated to each type. The latter for limit cases of $q$ yield Nekrasov--Okounkov type formulas corresponding to all the specializations given by Macdonald.

We provide a fermionic description of flagged skew Grothendieck polynomials, which can be seen as a $K$-theoretic counterpart of flagged skew Schur polynomials. Our proof relies on the Jacobi-Trudi type formula established by Matsumura. This result generalizes the author's previous works on a fermionic description of skew Grothendieck polynomials and multi-Schur functions.
Tilted biorthogonal ensembles, Grothendieck random partitions, and determinantal tests
We study probability measures on partitions based on symmetric Grothendieck polynomials. These deformations of Schur polynomials introduced in the K-theory of Grassmannians share many common properties. Our Grothendieck measures are analogs of the Schur measures on partitions introduced by Okounkov (arXiv:math/9907127 [math.RT]). Despite the similarity of determinantal formulas for the probability weights of Schur and Grothendieck measures, we demonstrate that Grothendieck measures are \emph{not} determinantal point processes. This question is related to the principal minor assignment problem in algebraic geometry, and we employ a determinantal test first obtained by Nanson in 1897 for the $4\times4$ problem. We also propose a procedure for getting Nanson-like determinantal tests for matrices of any size $n\ge4$ which appear new for $n\ge 5$.
By placing the Grothendieck measures into a new framework of tilted biorthogonal ensembles generalizing a rich class of determinantal processes introduced by Borodin (arXiv:math/9804027 [math.CA]), we identify Grothendieck random partitions as a cross-section of a Schur process, a determinantal process in two dimensions. This identification expresses the correlation functions of Grothendieck measures through sums of Fredholm determinants, which are not immediately suitable for asymptotic analysis. A more direct approach allows us to obtain a limit shape result for the Grothendieck random partitions. The limit shape curve is not particularly explicit as it arises as a cross-section of the limit shape surface for the Schur process. The gradient of this surface is expressed through the argument of a complex root of a cubic equation.
Skew symplectic and orthogonal characters through lattice paths

The skew Schur functions admit many determinantal expressions. Chief among them are the (dual) Jacobi-Trudi formula and the Lascoux-Pragacz formula, which is a skew analogue of the Giambelli identity. Comparatively, the skew characters of the symplectic and orthogonal groups, also known as the skew symplectic and orthogonal Schur functions, have received less attention in this direction. We establish analogues of the dual Jacobi-Trudi and Lascoux-Pragacz formulae for these characters. Our approach is entirely combinatorial, being based on lattice path descriptions of the tableaux models of Koike and Terada. Ordinary Jacobi-Trudi formulae are then derived in an algebraic manner from their duals.
James reduced product schemes and double quasisymmetric functions
Symmetric function theory is a key ingredient in the Schubert calculus of Grassmannians. Quasisymmetric functions are analogues that are similarly central to algebraic combinatorics, but for which the associated geometry is poorly developed. Baker and Richter (2008) showed that $\textrm{QSym}$ manifests topologically as the cohomology ring of the loop suspension of infinite projective space or equivalently of its combinatorial homotopy model, the James reduced product $J\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^\infty$. In recent work, we used this viewpoint to develop topologically-motivated bases of $\textrm{QSym}$ and initiate a Schubert calculus for $J\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^\infty$ in both cohomology and $K$-theory.
Here, we study the torus-equivariant cohomology of $J\mathbb{C}\mathbb{P}^\infty$. We identify a cellular basis and introduce double monomial quasisymmetric functions as combinatorial representatives, analogous to the factorial Schur functions and double Schubert polynomials of classical Schubert calculus. We also provide a combinatorial Littlewood--Richardson rule for the structure coefficients of this basis.
Furthermore, we introduce an algebro-geometric analogue of the James reduced product construction. In particular, we prove that the James reduced product of a complex projective variety also carries the structure of a projective variety.

We consider the Schur-positivity of monomial immanants of Jacobi-Trudi matrices, in particular whether a non-negative coefficient of the trivial Schur function implies non-negative coefficients for other Schur functions in said immanants. We prove that this true for hook-shape Schur functions using combinatorial methods in a representation theory setting. Our main theorem proves that hook-shape immanant characters can be written as finite non-negative integer sums of Stanley-Stembridge characters, and provides an explicit combinatorial formula for these sums. This resolves a special case of a longstanding conjecture of Stanley and Stembridge that posits such a sum exists for all immanant characters. We also provide several simplifications for computing immanant characters, and several corollaries applying the main result to cases where the coefficient of the trivial Schur function in monomial immanants of Jacobi-Trudi matrices is known to be non-negative.
Some combinatorial interpretations of the Macdonald identities for affine root systems
We explore some connections between vectors of integers and integer partitions seen as bi-infinite words. This methodology enables us to give a combinatorial interpretation of the Macdonald identities for affine root systems of the seven infinite families in terms of symplectic and special orthogonal Schur functions. From these results, we are able to derive $q$-Nekrasov--Okounkov formulas associated to each family. Nevertheless we only give results for types $\tilde{C}$ and $\tilde{C}^{\vee}$, and give a sketch of the proof for type $\tilde{C}$.

An algebraic iterative formula for the spin Kostka-Foulkes polynomial $K^-_{ξμ}(t)$ is given using vertex operator realizations of Hall-Littlewood symmetric functions and Schur's Q-functions. Based on the operational formula, more favorable properties are obtained parallel to the Kostka polynomial. In particular, we obtain some formulae for the number of (unshifted) marked tableaux. As an application, we confirmed a conjecture of Aokage on the expansion of the Schur $P$-function in terms of Schur functions. Tables of $K^-_{ξμ}(t)$ for $|ξ|\leq6$ are listed.
On the full Kostant-Toda hierarchy and its $\ell$-banded reductions for the Lie algebras of type $A, B$ and $G$
This paper concerns the solutions of the full Kostant-Toda (f-KT) hierarchy in the Hessenberg form and their reductions to the $\ell$-banded Kostant-Toda ($\ell$-KT) hierarchy. We also study the f-KT hierarchy and the corresponding $\ell$-KT hierarchy on simple Lie algebras of type $A, B$ and $G$ based on root space reductions with proper Chevalley systems. Explicit formulas of the polynomial solutions for the $τ$-functions are also given in terms of the Schur functions and Schur's $Q$-functions.
Generating functions for some series of characters of classical Lie groups
There exist a number of well known multiplicative generating functions for series of Schur functions. Amongst these are some related to the dual Cauchy identity whose expansion coefficients are rather simple, and in some cases periodic in parameters specifying the Schur functions. More recently similar identities have been found involving expansions in terms of characters of the symplectic group. Here these results are extended and generalised to all classical Lie groups. This is done through the derivation of explicit recurrence relations for the expansion coefficients based on the action of the Weyl groups of both the symplectic and orthogonal groups. Copious results are tabulated in the form of explicit values of the expansion coefficients as functions of highest weight parameters. An alternative approach is then based on dual pairs of symplectic and/or orthogonal groups. A byproduct of this approach is that expansions in terms of spin orthogonal group characters can always be recovered from non-spin cases.
Switch Operators for the Six-Vertex Model
In this paper, we introduce and analyze a new switch operator for the six-vertex model. This operator, derived from the Yang-Baxter equation, allows us to express the partition function with arbitrary boundaries in terms of a base case with domain wall boundary conditions. As an application, we derive explicit formulas for the factorial Schur functions and their generalizations. Our results provide new insights into the relationship between boundary conditions and partition functions in the six-vertex model.
Quasicrystal Structure of Fundamental Quasisymmetric Functions, and Skeleton of Crystals
We use crystals of tableaux and descent compositions to understand the decomposition of Schur functions $s_λ$ into Gessel's fundamental quasisymmetric functions $F_α$. The connected crystal of tableaux $B(λ)$, associated to $s_λ$, is shown to be partitionned into a disjoint union of connected induced subgraphs $B(T_α)$ corresponding to the $F_α$'s.
We show that these subgraphs, which we call quasicrystals, are isomorphic (as graphs) to specific crystals of tableaux. This allows us to give a formula for the number of tableaux of shape $λ$ and maximal entry $n$. We also use this setting to give a constructive proof of a combinatorial formula for Kostka numbers $K^λ_μ$. We study the position of the quasicrystals within the crystal $B(λ)$, and show that they appear in dually positionned pairs, with the crystal anti-automorphism between them being given by a generalization of Schützenberger's evacuation. We introduce the notion of skeleton of the crystal $B(λ)$ given by replacing each subgraph $B(T_α)$ by the associated standard tableau of shape $λ$. We conjecture that its graph includes the dual equivalence graph for $λ$, introduced by Assaf, and that its subgraphs of tableaux with fixed number of descents have particular structures. Finally, we describe applications to plethysm, among which we give an algorithm to express any symmetric sum of fundamental quasisymmetric functions into the Schur basis, whose construction gives insight into the relationship between the two basis.
