K-polynomials of multiplicity-free varieties
We describe the twisted $K$-polynomial of multiplicity-free varieties in a multiprojective setting. More precisely, for multiplicity-free varieties, we show that the support of the twisted $K$-polynomial is a generalized polymatroid. As applications, we show that the support of the Möbius function of a linear polymatroid is a generalized polymatroid, and we settle a conjecture of Monical, Tokcan and Yong regarding Grothendieck polynomials for the case of zero-one Schubert polynomials.

The equivariant motivic Chern class of a Schubert cell in a `complete' flag manifold $X=G/B$ is an element in the equivariant K theory ring of $X$ to which one adjoins a formal parameter $y$. In this paper we prove several `folklore results' about the motivic Chern classes, including finding specializations at $y=-1$ and $y=0$; the coefficient of the top power of $y$; how to obtain Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson (CSM) classes as leading terms of motivic classes; divisibility properties of the Schubert expansion of motivic Chern classes. We collect several conjectures about the positivity, unimodality, and log concavity of CSM and motivic Chern classes of Schubert cells, including a conjectural positivity of structure constants of the multiplication of Poincaré duals of CSM classes. In addition, we prove a `star duality' for the motivic Chern classes. We utilize the motivic Chern transformation to define two equivariant variants of the Hirzebruch transformation, which appear naturally in the Grothendieck-Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch formalism. We utilize the Demazure-Lusztig recursions from the motivic Chern class theory to find similar recursions giving the Hirzebruch classes of Schubert cells, their Poincar{é} duals, and their Segre versions. We explain the functoriality properties needed to extend the results to `partial' flag manifolds $G/P$.
Monk rules for type $GL_n$ Macdonald polynomials

In this paper we give Monk rules for Macdonald polynomials which are analogous to the Monk rules for Schubert polynomials. These formulas are similar to the formulas given by Baratta (2008), but our method of derivation is to use Cherednik's interwiners. Deriving Monk rules by this technique addresses the relationship between the work of Baratta and the product formulas of Yip (2010). Specializations of the Monk formula's at $q=0$ and/or $t=0$ provide Monk rules for Iwahori-spherical polynomials and for finite and affine key polynomials.
Set-valued tableaux for Macdonald polynomials
Set-valued tableaux formulas play an important role in Schubert calculus. Using the box greedy reduced word for the construction of the Macdonald polynomials, we convert the alcove walk formula for Macdonald polynomials to a set-valued tableaux formula for Macdonald polynomials. Our hope is that providing set-valued tableaux formulas for Macdonald polynomials will help to strengthen the analogies and possible connections between the calculus of Macdonald polynomials and Schubert calculus.
Quantum Grassmannians and their Associated Quantum Schubert Varieties at roots of unity
We study the PI degree of various quantum algebras at roots of unity, including quantum Grassmannians, quantum Schubert varieties, partition subalgebras, and their associated quantum affine spaces. By a theorem of De Concini and Procesi, the PI degree of partition subalgebras and their associated quantum affine spaces is controlled by skew-symmetric integral matrices associated to (Cauchon-Le) diagrams. We prove that the invariant factors of these matrices are always powers of 2. This allows us to compute explicitly the PI degree of partition subalgebras.
Our results also apply to certain completely prime (homogeneous) quotients of partition subalgebras. In particular, our results allow us to extend results of Jakobsen and Jondrup regarding the PI degree of quantum determinantal rings at roots of unity [JJ01] and we present a method to construct an irreducible representation of maximal dimension for quantum determinantal ideals.
Building on these results, we use the strong connection between partition subalgebras and quantum Schubert varieties through noncommutative dehomogenisation [LR08] to obtain expressions for the PI degree of quantum Schubert varieties. In particular, we compute the PI degree of quantum Grassmannians.

The $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $k$-Schur functions appeared in the study of $K$-theoretic and affine Schubert Calculus as polynomial representatives of Schubert classes. In this paper, we introduce a new family of symmetric functions $\mathcal{F}_λ^{(k)}$, that generalizes the constructions via the Pieri rule of $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $ k$-Schur functions. Then we obtain the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for the generalized functions. The rule is described explicitly in the cases of $K$-$k$-Schur functions and $k$-Schur functions, with concrete descriptions and algorithms for coefficients. Our work recovers the result of Bandlow, Schilling, and Zabrocki for $k$-Schur functions, and explains it as a degeneration of the rule for $K$-$k$-Schur functions. In particular, many other special cases and connections promise to be detailed in the future.

A notion of a nearly toric variety is introduced. The examples of nearly toric varieties in the context of Schubert varieties are discussed. In particular, combinatorial characterizations of the smooth and singular nearly toric Schubert varieties are found. Furthermore, the counts and generating series are determined. Additionally, a connection between Dyck paths and a certain family of nearly toric Schubert varieties is established.

We provide a direct proof of Seidel representation in the quantum K-theory QK(Gr(k, n)) by studying projected Gromov-Witten varieties concretely. As applications, we give an alternative proof of the K-theoretic quantum Pieri rule by Buch and Mihalcea, reduce certain quantum Schubert structure constants of higher degree to classical Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for K(Gr(k, n)), and provide a quantum Littlewood-Richardson rule for QK(Gr(3, n)).

We develop Pieri type as well as Murnaghan--Nakayama type formulas for equivariant Chern--Schwartz--MacPherson classes of Schubert cells in the classical flag variety. These formulas include as special cases many previously known multiplication formulas for Chern--Schwartz--MacPherson classes or Schubert classes. We apply the equivariant Murnaghan--Nakayama formula to the enumeration of rim hook tableaux.

The purpose of this paper is to prove a Pieri-type multiplication formula for quantum Grothendieck polynomials, which was conjectured by Lenart-Maeno. This formula would enable us to compute explicitly the quantum product of two arbitrary (opposite) Schubert classes in the (small) quantum $K$-theory ring $QK(Fl_{n})$ of the (full) flag manifold $Fl_{n}$ of type $A_{n-1}$ on the basis of the fact that quantum Grothendieck polynomials represent (opposite) Schubert classes in $QK(Fl_{n})$.
From the $B$-Toda to the BKP hierarchy
It is shown that all $τ$-functions of BKP hierarchy can be written as Pfaffians of skew-symmetric matrices. $τ$-functions of BKP hierarchy are parameterized by points in the universal orthogonal Grassmannian manifold (UOGM). The UOGM is a disjoint union of Schubert cells, we classify and give explicit parameterization for points in each Schubert cell by constructing a frame for UOGM in the sense of Sato. $τ$-functions are then expressed in terms of these frames and Schur-Q functions. For concreteness we give a comprehensive study for the $τ$-functions of $B$-Toda which can be viewed as a finite version of the BKP hierarchy. Along the way we also give a constructive description for complex pure spinors du E. Cartan. As an application of our construction, we reprove a theorem due to A. Alexandrov which states that KdV solves BKP up to rescaling of the time parameters by $2$. We prove this by showing that the KdV hierarchy can be viewed as $4$-reduction of the BKP hierarchy. This interpretation gives complete characterization for the KdV orbits inside the BKP hierarchy. Other than a few facts from representation theory, the main tools we use to show the above results, however, are surprisingly simple linear algebra.

A minimal presentation of the cohomology ring of the flag manifold $GL_n/B$ was given in [A. Borel, 1953]. This presentation was extended by [E. Akyildiz-A. Lascoux-P. Pragacz, 1992] to a non-minimal one for all Schubert varieties. Work of [Gasharov-Reiner, 2002] gave a short, i.e. polynomial-size, presentation for a subclass of Schubert varieties that includes the smooth ones. In [V. Reiner-A. Woo-A. Yong, 2011], a general shortening was found; it implies an exponential upper bound of $2^n$ on the number of generators required. That work states a minimality conjecture whose significance would be an exponential lower bound of $\sqrt{2}^{n+2}/\sqrt{πn}$ on the number of generators needed in worst case, giving the first obstructions to short presentations. We prove the minimality conjecture. Our proof uses the Hopf algebra structure of the ring of symmetric functions.

Schubert varieties of hyperplane arrangements, also known as matroid Schubert varieties, play an essential role in the proof of the Dowling-Wilson conjecture and in Kazhdan-Lusztig theory for matroids. We study these varieties as equivariant compactifications of affine spaces, and give necessary and sufficient conditions to characterize them. We also generalize the theory to include partial compactifications and morphisms between them. Our results resemble the correspondence between toric varieties and polyhedral fans.

Introduced by Kodama and Williams, Bruhat interval polytopes are generalized permutohedra closely connected to the study of torus orbit closures and total positivity in Schubert varieties. We show that the 1-skeleton posets of these polytopes are lattices and classify when the polytopes are simple, thereby resolving open problems and conjectures of Fraser, of Lee--Masuda, and of Lee--Masuda--Park. In particular, we classify when generic torus orbit closures in Schubert varieties are smooth.

We study an operation in matroid theory that allows one to transition a given matroid into another with more bases via relaxing a \emph{stressed subset}. This framework provides a new combinatorial characterization of the class of split matroids. Moreover, it permits to describe an explicit matroid subdivision of a hypersimplex, which in turn can be used to write down concrete formulas for the evaluations of any valuative invariant on these matroids. This shows that evaluations on split matroids depend solely on the behavior of the invariant on tractable subclass of Schubert matroids. We address systematically the consequences of our approach for several invariants. They include the volume and Ehrhart polynomial of base polytopes, the Tutte polynomial, Kazhdan--Lusztig polynomials, the Whitney numbers of the first and second kind, spectrum polynomials and a generalization of these by Denham, chain polynomials and Speyer's $g$-polynomials, as well as Chow rings of matroids and their Hilbert--Poincaré series. The flexibility of this setting allows us to give a unified explanation for several recent results regarding the listed invariants; furthermore, we emphasize it as a powerful computational tool to produce explicit data and concrete examples.

We use the geometry of the stellahedral toric variety to study matroids. We identify the valuative group of matroids with the cohomology ring of the stellahedral toric variety, and show that valuative, homological, and numerical equivalence relations for matroids coincide. We establish a new log-concavity result for the Tutte polynomial of a matroid, answering a question of Wagner and Shapiro-Smirnov-Vaintrob on Postnikov-Shapiro algebras, and calculate the Chern-Schwartz-MacPherson classes of matroid Schubert cells. The central construction is the "augmented tautological classes of matroids," modeled after certain vector bundles on the stellahedral toric variety.

A standard monomial theory for Schubert varieties is constructed exploiting (1) the geometry of the Seshadri stratifications of Schubert varieties by their Schubert subvarieties and (2) the combinatorial LS-path character formula for Demazure modules. The general theory of Seshadri stratifications is improved by using arbitrary linearization of the partial order and by weakening the definition of balanced stratification.

Let $G=Spin(8n, \mathbb{C})(n\ge 1)$ and $T_{G}$ be a maximal torus of $G.$ Let $P^{α_{4n}}(\supset T_{G})$ be the maximal parabolic subgroup of $G$ corresponding to the simple root $α_{4n}.$ Let $X$ be a Schubert variety in $G/P^{α_{4n}}$ admitting semi-stable point with respect to the $T$-linearized very ample line bundle $\mathcal{L}(2ω_{4n}).$ Let $R=\bigoplus_{k \in \mathbb{Z}_{\geq 0}}R_k,$ where $R_k=H^{0}(X, \mathcal{L}^{\otimes k}(2ω_{4n}))^{T_{G}}.$ In this article, we prove that for $n=1$ and $X=G/P^{α_4},$ the graded $\mathbb{C}$-algebra $R$ is generated by $R_1.$ As a consequence, we prove that the GIT quotient of $G/P^{α_{4}}$ is projectively normal with respect to the descent of the $T_{G}$-linearized very ample line bundle $\mathcal{L}(2ω_{4})$ and is isomorphic to the projective space $(\mathbb{P}^{2},\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{2}}(1))$ as a polarized variety. Further, we prove that $R$ is generated by $R_1$ and $R_2$ for some Schubert varieties in $G/P^{α_{4n}}$ (for $n \geq 2$). As a consequence, we prove that the GIT quotient of those Schubert varieties are projectively normal with respect to the descent of the $T_G$-linearized very ample line bundle $\mathcal{L}(4ω_{4n}).$
Moreover, for $G = Spin(2n,\mathbb{C})(n \ge 4)$ (respectively, $G=Sp(2n, \mathbb{C}) (n\ge 2)$) and a maximal torus $T_G$ of $G,$ we prove that the GIT quotient of $G/P^{α_{1}}$ is projectively normal with respect to the descent of the $T_G$-linearized very ample line bundle $\mathcal{L}(2ω_{1})$ and is isomorphic to the projective space $(\mathbb{P}^{n-2},\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{n-2}}(1))$ (respectively, $(\mathbb{P}^{n-1},\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{n-1}}(1))$ as a polarized variety.
Bumpless pipe dream RSK, growth diagrams, and Schubert structure constants
We introduce analogs of left and right RSK insertion for Schubert calculus of complete flag varieties. The objects being inserted are certain biwords, the insertion objects are bumpless pipe dreams, and the recording objects are decorated chains in Bruhat order. As an application, we adopt Lenart's growth diagrams of permutations to give a combinatorial rule for Schubert structure constants in the separated descent case.

There has been recent interest in lower bounds for the principal specializations of Schubert polynomials $ν_w := \mathfrak S_w(1,\dots,1)$. We prove a conjecture of Yibo Gao in the setting of $1243$-avoiding permutations that gives a lower bound for $ν_w$ in terms of the permutation patterns contained in $w$. We extended this result to principal specializations of $β$-Grothendieck polynomials $ν^{(β)}_w := \mathfrak G^{(β)}_w(1,\dots,1)$ by restricting to the class of vexillary $1243$-avoiding permutations. Our methods are bijective, offering a combinatorial interpretation of the coefficients $c_w$ and $c^{(β)}_w$ appearing in these conjectures.
