Inverting Dependently Random Tournaments
Let $\text{inv}(T)$ be the inversion index of the tournament $T$. Answering a question of Behague, we show that $\text{inv}(T_1\to T_2)=\text{inv}(T_1)+\text{inv}(T_2)$ does not even hold asymptotically.

The geometric combinatorics of $k$-shuffle braid groups
This paper is the first in a series of two which aims at introducing a new family of groups called $k$-shuffle braid groups, denoted $\mathcal{B}_{n}(k)$. These groups have two intrinsically related stories. They were first observed by Calegari in arXiv:2105.11265 by looking at spaces of complex monic polynomials of degree $n$ whose critical values lie in $\mathbb{C} \setminus \{1, e^{\frac{2πi}{k}}, \dots, e^{\frac{2π(k-1)}{k}}\}$. The $k$-shuffle braid groups are the fundamental groups of those spaces, which correspond geometrically to complements of $k$ translates of the discriminant variety. The second story starts from the poset of $k$-shuffle partitions, which were introduced by Drew Armstrong and explored in depth in his thesis arXiv:math/0611106. In this paper, we focus on the combinatorial aspects of $k$-shuffle braid groups starting from the poset of $k$-shuffle non-crossing partitions. We build a CW-complex on which the groups act freely, properly discontinuously and cocompactly, which we show is CAT(0) for dimension up to 7. For higher dimension, we show that the CAT(0) property is implied by the conjecture of Brady and McCammond that the dual braid complex is CAT(0) (arXiv:0909.4778).
The domination number of the $k$-token graph of the complete bipartite graph $K_{m,n}$
This paper is about token graphs and domination number. Let $G=(X,E)$ denote an undirected graph that is connected, with no loops or multiple edges, vertex set $X$, and edge set $E$. Pick a positive integer $k\leq \vert X\vert$. The $k$-token graph of $G$, denoted by $F_k(G)$, is defined as follows. The vertex set $\mathcal{X}$ consists of all $k$-subsets of $X$. Two vertices $x,y\in \mathcal{X}$ are adjacent whenever the symmetric difference of $x$ and $y$ consists of two vertices that form an edge in $E$. In this paper, we compute the exact value for the domination number of $F_2(K_{m,n})$ where $K_{m,n}$ is the complete bipartite graph with parameters $m,n$. We present some bounds for the domination number of $F_k(K_{m,n})$ when $k\geq 3$.

A sporadic simplicial arrangement of $51$ lines
We construct a sporadic simplicial arrangement of $51$ lines in the real projective plane. It is obtained from the icosahedral arrangement $\mathcal{A}(21,2)$ by adjoining the $30$ images of the line $y+\sqrtφ\,z=0$ under the rotation group of the icosahedron, where $φ=(1+\sqrt5)/2$. Its intersection multiplicities are $t_2=120$, $t_3=190$, $t_5=36$, and $t_6=15$, with all other $t_r$ zero. These counts give equality in Melchior's inequality and hence prove simpliciality. The arrangement is irreducible, belongs to neither of the two known infinite families of irreducible simplicial arrangements, and is not supersolvable. It therefore disproves the $37$-line bound for sporadic arrangements conjectured by Cuntz and Mücksch. We give explicit coordinates, a finite incidence certificate, a geometric explanation of the parameter $\sqrtφ$, and a standalone exact-arithmetic verifier.
Tree-independence number VIII. 3PC-free graphs have logarithmic tree-independence number
A three-path-configuration is a graph consisting of three pairwise internally vertex-disjoint paths, the union of every two of which is an induced cycle of length at least four. A graph is 3PC-free if no induced subgraph of it is a three-path-configuration. We show that 3PC-free graphs have logarithmic tree-independence number, which is asymptotically best possible.
From Wheel to Jahangir graphs: spectra and energy under structured edge deletion
The energy of a graph, introduced by Gutman, is defined as the sum of the absolute values of the eigenvalues of its adjacency matrix. In this work we study how the energy of the Wheel graph $W_n$ changes when a specific set of spokes is removed. The resulting graphs are precisely the Jahangir graphs $J_{m,n}$, where m divides n, and which may also be viewed as the Cycle graph $C_n$ together with an additional vertex adjacent to certain vertices of $C_n$ in a cyclic pattern. We determine the spectra of $J_{2,n}$, $J_{4,n}$, and $J_{6,n}$ by exploiting a factorization of their characteristic polynomials arising from equitable partitions. This yields explicit closed formulas for their energies. Moreover, under certain conditions, we establish the following monotonicity chain: \[\mathcal{E}(C_n) \;\leq\; \mathcal{E}(J_{6,n}) \;\leq\; \mathcal{E}(J_{4,n}) \;\leq\; \mathcal{E}(J_{2,n}) \;\leq\; \mathcal{E}(W_n).\]

A counterexample to Gale's conjecture in $\mathbb{R}^3$
It is known that for every partition of the sphere $S^2$ of unit diameter into four parts, the largest diameter of a part is at least $\sqrt{(3+\sqrt{3})/6} = 0.88807\dots$, and this bound is attained. The conjecture of D.~Gale (1953) asserts that no set in $\mathbb{R}^3$ has a larger ratio. In this paper, we construct a $101$-point set $V\subset\mathbb{R}^3$ such that every partition of $V$ into four parts contains a part of diameter greater than $0.88928 \, \operatorname{diam} V$.
A Matroidal Framework for Random Access in Linear Codes
We study random access in linear codes when codeword symbols are sampled independently and uniformly with replacement. A code is recovery balanced if the expected number of samples required to recover a codeword coordinate is the same for every coordinate. We express the recovery expectations in terms of the associated matroid and derive a coordinatewise identity relating these values for a code and its dual. This proves that a linear code is recovery balanced if and only if its dual is recovery balanced, establishing a conjecture of Gruica et al. We further define the recovery balance for arbitrary matroids and show that asymptotically almost every sparse paving matroid is not recovery balanced.

Low-degree filtrations in ordinary and Lagrangian Grassmannian cohomology
We prove the Hilbert-series formulas conjectured by Reiner--Tudose and by the Polymath Jr. Grassmannian group for the subalgebras of ordinary and Lagrangian Grassmannian cohomology generated in bounded degree. We determine the finite coefficient images underlying the proofs, together with the kernels of the coefficient and cancellation maps. We also construct bases adapted to the auxiliary ideal filtrations and identify the cancellation layers, as modules, with shifts of finite complete-intersection algebras. First-order deformations give the derivative inclusions needed to recover the filtration increments. We disprove the two ordinary basis conjectures of the Polymath group. For every $r\ge 2$, the span of each prescribed family has codimension one in weight $3r+2$ of $H^{2*}(\operatorname{Gr}(2,3r+1);\mathbb Q)$; replacing one index gives a basis in each of these components. More generally, each prescribed two-row family has codimension at most one in every weight. Weights are half the cohomological degrees, and all coefficients are rational.

Two q-Deformations of Narayana Polynomials: Rogers Moments, Hankel Positivity, and q-Narayana Kernels
We study two $q$-deformations of the continuous interpolation between type $B$ and shifted type $A$ Narayana polynomials, both constructed from the continuous $q$-ultraspherical (Rogers) functional. The first consists of affine moments of ordinary powers. For fixed $0<q<1$ and $-1<β<1$, we prove coefficientwise Hankel total positivity in the polynomial variable by a continuant comparison criterion. We also determine leading continuants, Hankel determinants, and extreme coefficients of arbitrary Hankel minors. The second deformation uses Askey--Wilson basis products and yields a basic-hypergeometric Narayana kernel. We give two independent moment evaluations and prove that its row polynomials have simple negative zeros and are $γ$-positive after palindromic normalization. An Askey--Wilson integral with base $q^2$ gives a continuous-parameter extension and a moment proof of the Krattenthaler--Wachs super $q$-Narayana expansion, including its integrality. An ordinary-power expansion also proves Pan's Touchard identity. For fixed $0<q<1$ and $θ>-1$, we prove total positivity of the kernel triangle by a Jackson $q$-Bessel--Edrei factorization and strict total positivity of its associated square by a discrete moment representation. This gives a simultaneous $(θ,q)$-extension of Wang--Yang's theorems for type $A$ and type $B$ Narayana triangles and squares. We further establish coefficientwise total nonnegativity in $q$ through order two for the endpoint triangles. An exact triangular change of basis links the two deformations and explains their common classical limit.

Vanishing Uniform Turán Densities: Characterization and Jumps
Uniform Turán density problems ask for the minimum density threshold that guarantees a copy of a fixed 3-uniform hypergraph $F$ in every sufficiently large 3-uniform hypergraph whose edges are uniformly distributed. This line of research was initiated by Erdős and Sós in the 1980s, who introduced the notion of \emph{vertex-set Turán density} $π_{vvv}(F)$. Reiher, Rödl and Schacht later defined two related concepts, namely, the \emph{vertex-pair Turán density} $π_{ve}(F)$ and the \emph{cherry Turán density} $π_{ee}(F)$, which satisfy the chain of inequalities $π_{vvv}(F)\geπ_{ve}(F)\geπ_{ee}(F)$. In this paper, we investigate the problem for their vanishing densities. First, we characterize the 3-uniform hypergraphs $F$ for which $π_{ee}(F)=0$, thereby answering a question posed by Schacht. We show that these are precisely the so-called \emph{max-layered} 3-uniform hypergraphs recently introduced by Lamaison. Furthermore, we answer an analogous question of Lamaison for the \emph{minimum-codegree palette density} $π_{ee}^{\rm pal}$. Together, these results imply that the following are equivalent: $π_{ee}(F)=0$, $π_{ee}^{\rm pal}(F)=0$, and $F$ is a max-layered 3-uniform hypergraph. Let $\star \in \{vvv, ve, ee \}$. We say that zero is a \emph{jump} for $π_{\star}$ if there exists $c>0$ such that no $3$-uniform hypergraph $F$ satisfies $π_{\star}(F)\in(0,c)$. A famous result of Reiher, Rödl and Schacht asserts that zero is a jump for $π_{vvv}$. In contrast, we prove that zero is not a jump for either $π_{ve}$ or $π_{ee}$. This also yields a negative answer to Schacht's well-ordering question for $π_{ve}$. Together with existing results, these findings complete the picture for all three notions of uniform Turán density at zero.

New Newton-type inequality and a unified perspective on Maclaurin's inequality via the inclusion relations of cones
The classical Newton-Maclaurin's inequalities for the elementary symmetric means are well known. In this paper, we derive a new class of Newton-type inequalities and generalize Maclaurin's inequality by connecting the elementary symmetric functions with their counterparts. Our idea is mainly motivated by the inclusion relations of G$\mathring{\text{a}}$rding's cones and $k$-convex cones.

Extremal secant size distributions in projective planes
Given a point set $S$ in a projective plane of order $q$, each line $\ell$ determines a secant of size $|S\cap \ell|$. We study how concentrated this secant-size distribution can be. We develop a general framework for estimating and, in several cases, determining the extremal number. We point out how the extremal constructions vary depending on the remainder of the size of the set modulo $q$, and classify several extremal families of point sets, building from concurrent lines, Baer {subplanes} and lines in general position. On the lower bound side, we rely on stability results in the Desarguesian case and applications of the standard equalities in general. Finally, we connect the problem to a novel concept, called general position on level 2 for point and line sets, which then leads to a Sidon-type problem over finite fields called projective Sidon sets, providing an additional arithmetic model for highly concentrated secant-size distributions.

A sharp bound on the binding number of $K_k$-free graphs and the Brandt conjecture
The binding number of a graph is the smallest ratio $|N(S)|/|S|$ among all nonempty vertex sets $S$ whose neighborhood $N(S)$ is not the whole vertex set. We prove that every finite nonempty $K_k$-free graph has binding number at most $k-2$ for every $k\ge6$, confirming Brandt's conjecture; the bound is sharp for complete $(k-1)$-partite graphs with equal nonempty parts. We first prove the case $k=6$ and then extend it to all $k\ge6$ by induction.

An exact formula for optimal axis-parallel packing of eight squares
We determine the smallest square container for eight axis-parallel squares of prescribed side lengths. The optimal side length is the minimum of the costs of 23 explicit packing strategies, and each cost is a maximum of sums of side lengths. No minimum of fewer convex functions represents it. Three strategies suffice for seven squares; the jump to 23 for eight squares witnesses the beginning of a combinatorial explosion. We prove the formula by combining the constructions with geometric lower bounds derived from disjoint coordinate projections, cornering arguments, and a weighted area comparison.

Independent transversals in hypergraphs with low codegrees
We prove that for every fixed $r\geq3$, $k>0$ and $\varepsilon\in(0,1)$, there is $γ>0$ such that the following holds for all sufficiently large $b$. An $r$-uniform hypergraph $\mathcal H$ whose vertex set is partitioned into parts of size at least $b$ contains at least $\lceil(1-\varepsilon)b\rceil$ pairwise vertex-disjoint independent transversals, provided that the average degree in each part is at most $kb^{r-1}$ and maximum $j$-codegree $Δ_j(\mathcal H)\leqγb^{r-j}$ for $2\leq j<r$. Under the same average degree, if $q$ is the minimum part size and $Δ_j(\mathcal H)=o(q^{r-j})$ for $2\leq j<r$, the maximum number of pairwise vertex-disjoint independent transversals is $(1-o(1))q$ as $q\to\infty$. We develop an iterative halving reduction for partitioned hypergraphs to apply the theorem of Delcourt and Postle on matchings avoiding forbidden submatchings.

Forbidden graded posets in middle levels: supersaturation, enumeration and randomness
Let $P$ be a fixed finite poset whose maximal chains all have $h$ elements, and let $\mathcal W_{n,h}$ be the union of $h$ consecutive middle levels of $2^{[n]}$. We prove that the maximum size of a $P$-free subfamily of $\mathcal W_{n,h}$ is $(π(P)+o(1))M_n$ for a constant $π(P)$, where $M_n=\binom n{\lfloor n/2\rfloor}$, and that the number of $P$-free subfamilies is $2^{(π(P)+o(1))M_n}$. For connected $P$ we prove supersaturation above $(π(P)+ε)M_n$ and determine, in terms of the coordinate patterns of the copies of $P$ in the window, a range of $p$ in which the largest $P$-free subfamily of the random family $\mathcal W_{n,h}(p)$ has size $(π(P)+o(1))pM_n$ and a range in which it has size $(h+o(1))pM_n$; the two ranges meet whenever all copies have the same pattern. For the Boolean poset $Q_d$, which has height $d+1$, the threshold order in the corresponding window $\mathcal W_{n,d+1}$ is $n^{-d/(2^d-1)}$, and $π_d=π(Q_d)$ satisfies $(d+1)λ_d\leπ_d\le d+1-\binom d{\lfloor d/2\rfloor}^{-1}$, where $λ_d$ is the vertex Turán density of $d$-dimensional subcubes in the hypercube. Together with a construction of Ellis, Ivan and Leader this gives $d+1-π_d=\exp(-Θ(d))$. For the diamond, known bounds give $2.1479\leπ_2\le2.15121$.

Sprinkling for random regular graphs and Kim-Vu's sandwich conjecture
We show that the uniform random $d$-regular graph model on $n$ vertices is, in total variation distance, asymptotically close to the union of $d$ uniformly random edge-disjoint perfect matchings, provided that $n$ is even and $ω(1) = d \leq n^{1/10}$. This confirms a conjecture by Hollom, Lichev, Mond, Portier, and Wang for this range of parameters. This result has a couple of interesting consequences. First, this shows that random $d$-regular graphs on $n$ vertices exhibit sprinkling properties for some range of parameters, thereby confirming a conjecture by Isaev, McKay, Southwell and Zhukovskii in that range. Second, we give a short alternative proof of the upper side of Kim-Vu's sandwich conjecture in the sparse regime.

On complete morphisms of Butson Hadamard matrices
A complete morphism of Butson classes replaces each entry of a matrix in $\mathrm{BH}(n,k)$ by an $m \times m$ block, uniformly, to produce a matrix in $\mathrm{BH}(mn,t)$. We show that every complete morphism is described by a pair $(U,Z)$, where $Z \in \mathrm{BH}(m,t)$ and $U$ is a unitary matrix annihilated by the $k^{\textrm{th}}$ cyclotomic polynomial. We deduce from a theorem of Lam and Leung that complete morphisms onto real Hadamard matrices exist precisely when $k$ is a power of $2$. The exponent-reducing morphisms of Östergård--Paavola and Ó Catháin--Swartz achieve the smallest block size the degree bound allows, and we show that there are no other complete morphisms for which $U$ is monomial. We construct new complete morphisms where $U$ is not monomial: a complete morphism $\mathrm{BH}(n,7) \rightarrow \mathrm{BH}(6n,6)$ is given, the first to eliminate a prime from the alphabet.

Avoiding abelian squares with three colours in the continuous setting
An $n$-colouring of the real line is a Lebesgue measurable function $f \colon \mathbb{R} \to A$, where $A$ is a set of $n$ colours. An abelian square for $f$ is a finite interval $U\subseteq \mathbb{R}$ where every colour shows up in the left and in the right half of $U$ with exactly the same Lebesgue measure. It is known that every $2$-colouring contains an abelian square. On the other hand, Alon, Grytczuk, Laso{ń}, and Michałek (2009) proved that there exist $4$-colourings that avoid abelian squares, while the question for $3$-colourings remained open. We construct a $3$-colouring that avoids abelian squares, disproving a conjecture of Laso{ń} (2015). However, in contrast to the case of 4-colourings, the set of 3-colourings that avoid abelian squares is meagre. We show this using an argument based on the KKM lemma.

An Erdős-Szekeres-Type Result on Permutation Patterns
We construct an infinite set of patterns $(p,q)$ where $p$ is an almost increasing permutation and $q$ is an almost decreasing permutation, such that the exponential growth rate of permutations avoiding $(p,q)$ is 2. This extends a classical result of Erdős and Szekeres.

Ordered Trees with Linear Off-Diagonal Ramsey Numbers
We characterize the following three classes of ordered trees: $\qquad$ (1) trees $T$ satisfying $R_<(T,K_n)=O(n)$; $\qquad$ (2) $χ$-bounding trees; $\qquad$ (3) Ramsey-good trees. In particular, we show that the first two classes coincide. The second characterization answers a question of Axenovich, Rollin and Ueckerdt, and the third resolves a problem of Balko and Poljak. In our proof, we also introduce several novel constructions of ordered graphs with sublinear independence number, giving lower bounds on $R_<(F,K_n)$ for various ordered forests $F$.

A Complete Dichotomy for $L_\infty$ Permutation Removal
We study the removal problem for permutation patterns under the normalized $L_\infty$ earth mover's distance. We prove a complete dichotomy. Let \[ \mathcal E =\{(12),(21),(132),(213),(231),(312)\}. \] If $σ\in\mathcal E$, then every permutation of length $n$ that is $\varepsilon$-far from being $σ$-free contains at least $\varepsilon(n-1)$ copies of $σ$; for $0<\varepsilon\le 1/16$, this is sharp up to a constant factor for all sufficiently large $n$. If $σ\in S_k\setminus\mathcal E$, then for every sufficiently large $n$ there is a permutation of length $n$ that is $1/(8k)$-far from being $σ$-free and contains exactly one copy of $σ$. Thus the usual positive-density removal conclusion fails for every nontrivial permutation pattern, but the sparse behavior is completely characterized: the minimum number of copies is linear for exactly six patterns and is one for all others. Consequently, no canonical one-sided tester that rejects only after finding a forbidden copy can have query complexity independent of the permutation length.

Simultaneous popular differences for polynomial and linear progressions in finite fields
We study simultaneous popular differences for polynomial progressions and linear progressions over finite fields $\mathbb F_p$. For certain families of polynomial progressions of algebraic complexity $1$, such as $(x, x+y, x+2y)$ and $(x, x+y^3, x+2y^3)$, we prove the existence of $y \neq 0$ which is popular simultaneously for both progressions. This extends previous results by Conlon, Dong and Hong who considered complexity $0$ progressions. On the other hand, we construct counterexamples showing that simultaneous popular differences are not guaranteed to exist for $(x, x+y, x+2y)$ and $(x, x+y^2, x+2y^2)$, or for $(x, x+y, x+2y)$ and $(x, x+y, x+3y)$, or for $(x, x+y, x+2y)$ and $(x,x+y,x+2y,x+3y)$, answering questions posed by Conlon, Dong and Hong.

Extremal graphs without cycles of length 0 modulo 4
In a remarkable recent result, Győri, Li, Salia, Tompkins, Varga and Zhu determined the maximum size in a graph of given order and containing no cycle of length divisible by 4. In this paper, we give a complete characterization of all graphs attaining this maximum. This answers a question posed by Li, Pan and Shi. Very recently, Chu, Park and Ryu established a sharp upper bound on the number of edges in a 2-connected graph containing no cycle of length divisible by 4. We also give a complete characterization of all such graphs attaining this bound.

Secure Domination in Odd-order Sierpinski Graphs
A nonempty vertex set D of a graph is secure if and only if, for every nonempty subset X of D, the closed neighborhood of X contains at least as many vertices of D as vertices outside D. A secure dominating set is a set that is both secure and dominating, and the secure domination number is the minimum cardinality of such a set. Previous work determined the secure domination number of Sierpinski graphs S_n k for even k and for odd k when n = 2. The exact values for odd k and n\geq3 remained open. In this paper, we determine these remaining values.

On the MDS conjecture in even characteristic
We prove that every nontrivial linear $[n,k]$ maximum distance separable (MDS) code over a finite field $\F_q$ of characteristic two satisfies $n\le q+1$, except in dimensions $k=3$ and $k=q-1$, where $n\le q+2$. This resolves the linear MDS conjecture in even characteristic.

Sharp Euler-factor positivity for the BG-rank-refined five-core crank
In this paper, we complete the resolution of Stanton's problem OPAC--005 by proving its fixed-BG-rank assertion. We further establish a sharp nine-factor positivity theorem for the joint generating function. Let $K_{n,j}(z)$ enumerate partitions of $5n+4$ with BG-rank $j$ by the integer five-core crank prescribed in OPAC--005, and put $[5]_z=1+z+z^2+z^3+z^4$. We prove that $K_{n,j}(z)/[5]_z$ has nonnegative integer Laurent coefficients for every $n\ge0$ and $j\in \mathbb Z$. The refined equidistribution theorem of Berkovich and Garvan gives divisibility; the new assertion is coefficientwise nonnegativity. Set $Ψ(u,z,q)=\sum_{n\ge0}\sum_{j\in \mathbb Z}q^{n+1}u^jK_{n,j}(z)$ and $D(q)=\prod_{d\ge1}(1-q^{2d})$. For every nonnegative integer $M$, we show that $D(q)^MΨ(u,z,q)/[5]_z$ has nonnegative coefficients if and only if $M\le9$. Thus positivity survives after removing nine of the ten partition factors supplied by the core--quotient decomposition. A coefficient equal to $-4$ at $M=10$ proves sharpness. The key step is a compensation between lattice terms of different core sizes that preserves both the BG-rank and the full integer crank. Theta identities and three local coefficient inequalities provide the required nonnegative contributions, and an explicit allocation ensures that none is used twice. The resulting factorization also yields a nine-color convolution and coefficientwise finite-difference inequalities through order nine.

Fourier Decomposition and E-Eigenvalues of Hypergraph Polynomials over Finite Abelian Groups
Let $H=(V,E)$ be a $k$-uniform hypergraph with polynomial $f_H(\bm{x})=\sum_{e\in E}\prod_{v\in e}x_v$. For a finite abelian group $G$ and a subgroup $S$ of $G$, the $k$-partite Cayley hypergraph $K$ has $k$ disjoint vertex parts, each indexed by $G$, and $\{(1,g_1),\ldots,(k,g_k)\}$ is an edge if and only if $g_1+\cdots+g_k\in S$. For $k=2$, $K$ is isomorphic to the Bi-Cayley graph associated with $G$ and $S$. For $k\ge3$, we use character theory to express $f_K$, under a complex unitary change of variables, as a sum of exactly $[G:S]$ nonzero monomials in pairwise disjoint sets of variables. This yields a direct sum decomposition whenever $S$ is a proper subgroup of $G$. When $G=\Z_2^m$, this transformation is real and orthogonal, enabling us to determine the complete sets of complex E-eigenvalues and Z-eigenvalues of the adjacency tensor of $K$.

Berry--Esseen Bounds for Faces in Unimodular Triangulations of Random Polytopes
Consider the number of faces arising from unimodular triangulations of random polytopes associated with Erdős--Rényi graphs. Focusing on two-dimensional faces of regular unimodular triangulations of random symmetric edge polytopes, we derive precise asymptotic expansions for the expectation and variance and then establish a quantitative central limit theorem with an explicit Berry--Esseen bound. The proof combines an algebraically derived characterization of faces in terms of local graph configurations with a detailed combinatorial--geometric study of the relevant configurations. The normal approximation is established using the discrete Malliavin--Stein method. We also determine the asymptotic orders of the expectation and variance and establish a quantitative central limit theorem for the number of faces in each fixed higher dimension. These results identify a common local mechanism underlying the fluctuations of face numbers and extend the distributional theory of random symmetric edge polytopes [Donzelmann et al., arXiv:2603.10650] beyond edge statistics.

Solid-angle formulas for simplicial cones and random shifted sections of polytopes
We consider simplicial cones $C = \operatorname{pos}(v_1, \ldots, v_n) \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n$ whose generators have a Gram matrix of the form $(\langle v_i, v_j \rangle)_{i,j=1}^n = \operatorname{Id}_n+\sum_{j=1}^p λ_j u_j u_j^T$, where $p\in \{0,\ldots, n\}$, $λ_1, \ldots, λ_p > -1$ and $u_1,\ldots, u_p \in \mathbb{R}^n$ are orthogonal unit vectors. We derive an explicit $p$-dimensional integral formula for the solid angle of $C$ involving the analytic continuation of the standard normal distribution function. As an application, explicit formulas are obtained for the expected face numbers of sections of acute orthocentric simplices and crosspolytopes with uniformly distributed linear subspaces translated by a fixed vector. The translation vector is assumed to lie outside the affine hulls of all proper faces of the polytope. All solid angles entering these formulas are expressed as integrals of dimension at most two. This application includes regular simplices and regular crosspolytopes as special cases.

Intersecting families with large covering number - On a conjecture of Frankl, Ota, and Tokushige
Stability theorems on intersecting families are often formulated via the covering number of set families. Let $M(n,k,t)$ denote the maximum size of a $k$-uniform intersecting family $\mathcal F\subseteq \binom{[n]}{k}$ with covering number $t$. It is known that for any fixed $t$ and fixed $k$ sufficiently large relative to $t$, one has $M(n,k,t)=(p_{t-1}(k)+o(1))(k)\binom{n}{k}$ as $n$ tends to infinity, where $p_{t-1}(k)$ is the maximum number of covers of size $t-1$ that a $k$-uniform intersecting family can have provided its covering number is $t-1$. Frankl, Ota, and Tokushige conjectured that $p_t(k)=k^t-\binom{t}{2}k^{t-1}+O_t(k^{t-2})$ for fixed $t$ as $k$ tends to infinity and they also showed that $p_t(k)=k^t-b(t)k^{t-1}+O_t(k^{t-2})$, where $b(t)$ is defined as the extremum of the following minimization problem. Suppose a $k$-uniform intersecting family $\mathcal F$ of covering number $t$ can be partitioned into $\mathcal F_1,\dots,\mathcal F_t$ such that for every $i$ there exists a set $X_i$ with $X_i \subseteq F_i$ for all $F_i\in\mathcal F_i$ and the $X_i$'s are pairwise disjoint and non-empty. Then $b(t)$ is the minimum of $\sum_{i=1}^t(k-|X_i|)$ over all such families, partitions and $X_i$'s. In accordance with the conjecture on $p_t(k)$, Frankl, Ota, and Tokushige conjectured $b(t)=\binom{t}{2}$ for all $t\ge 2$ and proved $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}\lfloor \frac{t-1}{2}\rfloor^{3/2}\le b(t)\le \binom{t}{2}$. In this note, we present a counterexample to the conjecture showing $b(t)\le 2\sqrt2\,t^{3/2}\sqrt{\log t}$ $+O(t^{3/2})$ and improve the lower bound to $\frac{2}{3^{3/4}}t^{3/2}-O(t)\le b(t)$. The counterexample was found by ChatGPT 6.1Sol, the lower bound proof is due to the human author.

Functions determining few direction: the final missing case
By results of Blokhuis, Ball, Brouwer, Storme and Szőnyi, and of Ball, if a function $f: {\mathbb F}_q\to{\mathbb F}_q$ determines fewer than $(q+3)/2$ directions, then $f-f(0)$ is linear over a subfield of ${\mathbb F}_q$, except possibly when $q$ is even and $f$ determines exactly $q/2+1$ directions. We settle this case: $f-f(0)$ is then additive. Hence every small minimal blocking set of Rédei type in PG(2,$q$) is linear.

Almost entropic matroids and $(k,L)$-systems
For an integer $k$ and a set of integers $L$, a $(k,L)$-system is a family of $k$-element sets such that the size of the intersection of any two distinct members belongs to $L$. Let $m(n,k,L)$ denote the maximum size of a $(k,L)$-system on a ground set of $n$ elements. In this work, we establish a close connection between the asymptotic growth of $m(n,k,L)$ and almost entropic matroids. As a consequence, we obtain a general computable upper bound on the asymptotics of $m(n,k,L)$ that unifies and strengthens all previously known upper bounds.

Almgren minimality of products of simplex-skeleton cones
In this paper, we prove that for every $m,n\geq 2$, the orthogonal product $S_m\times S_n\subset\R^m\times\R^n$ is an Almgren minimal cone of dimension $m+n-2$, where $S_k\subset\R^k$ is the cone over the $(k-2)$-skeleton of a regular $k$-simplex. Lawlor and Morgan \cite{LM94} proved the minimality of each $S_k$ by paired calibrations, while Guy David \cite{DJT, GD13} later raised the general question whether products of Almgren minimal sets remain minimal. Our theorem gives a affirmative answer to this product question within the entire Lawlor-Morgan regular-simplex family. It extends the isolated example \(\Y\times \Y\), the product of two 1-dimensional $\Y$ sets, proved in 2014 by the second author, simultaneously to all pairwise products \(S_m\times S_n\), and therefore produces a large new family of possible codimension-two singularities for Plateau's problem. The key idea of the proof is to find a new way to combine homology with paired calibrations in higher codimension. Instead of using only the currents associated with the facets, we consider all their nonzero $\FF$ combinations. The resulting complete family has enough algebraic symmetry to control uniformly the overlaps created by noninjective deformations.

Ehrhart positivity of smooth polytopes with few facets
For each dimension $d$, we determine the minimum number of facets of a smooth $d$-dimensional lattice polytope whose Ehrhart polynomial has at least one negative coefficient. This minimum is six in dimension $d=3$, seven in dimension $d=4$, and $d+2$ in every dimension $d\ge 5$. The lower bounds follow from the classification of smooth lattice polytopes with at most $d+2$ facets, together with explicit formulas for Ehrhart polynomials in dimensions at most $4$. We also prove that a lattice polytope of dimension at least $3$ with a smooth vertex cannot be $2$-integral with respect to any ordered lattice basis.

Size and spectral radius conditions for the existence of $k$-factor in graphs with given minimum degree
In recent years, characterizing the conditions for the existence of an $[a,b]$-factor in graphs has received significant academic attention. For integers $b\ge a\ge 1$, an $[a, b]$-factor of a graph $G$ is defined as a spanning subgraph $H$ such that $a\le d_{H}(v)\le b$ for every $v\in V(G)$. If $a=b=k$, a $[k, k]$-factor is called a $k$-factor of $G$. Let $δ(G)$ denote the minimum degree of a graph $G$. Hao and Li [Electron. J. Combin. (2024)] posed the problem of characterizing the size or spectral radius conditions for a graph to contain an $[a,b]$-factor with $δ(G)\ge a$. Fan, Lin and Zhu [Discrete Math. (2026)] solved the size version of this problem for the case $a < b.$ In this paper, for $a=b=k$, we characterize the size condition for a graph to have a $k$-factor with $δ(G)\ge k$. Using this result, we also characterize the spectral radius and distance spectral radius conditions for a graph to have a $k$-factor, respectively.

On minimum-size matroid counterexamples to the multiplicative Merino--Welsh inequality
Let $M$ be a matroid and let $\Tutte_M(x,y)$ be its Tutte polynomial. The multiplicative Merino--Welsh inequality \[ \Tutte_M(2,0)\Tutte_M(0,2)\geq \Tutte_M(1,1)^2 \] was proved to be false for matroids by Beke, Csáji, Csikvári, and Pituk (\emph{Adv. Math.} \textbf{446} (2024), 109674). Let $U_{n,r}$ denote the rank-$r$ uniform matroid on $n$ elements, where $0<r<n$, and let $U_{n,r}^{(q)}$ denote the matroid obtained by replacing each element of $U_{n,r}$ with $q$ parallel copies. They constructed an infinite family of counterexamples of the form $U_{n,r}^{(2)}$, including $U_{33,22}^{(2)}$. In this paper, we prove that every $U_{n,r}^{(q)}$ with $q\geq3$ satisfies the inequality. For $q=2$, we prove that the minimum number of elements in such a counterexample is $62$, attained by $U_{31,21}^{(2)}$. For loopless and bridgeless graphs, Noble and Royle (\emph{Eur. J. Comb.} \textbf{38} (2014), 24--35) showed that every edge of a minimum-size counterexample to the multiplicative Merino--Welsh conjecture lies in a series or parallel class of size two or three. For matroids, we further prove that every element of a minimum-size loopless and coloopless counterexample lies in exactly one series or parallel class of size two.

On Hankel Determinantal Matroids
We initiate a study of the algebraic matroid associated to the ideal generated by the $(r+1)$-minors of a Hankel matrix of variables. We prove that this matroid is uniform, that is, a coordinate projection from the corresponding Hankel determinantal variety is generically finite if and only if it preserves at least $2r$ anti-diagonals. For such projections, we establish bounds on the degree. These results are of significance to the problem of Hankel low-rank matrix completion.

A proof of Vince's conjecture on the average order of connected induced subgraphs
We prove that the average order of connected induced subgraphs of a connected simple graph of order $n$ and minimum degree at least $3$ is strictly greater than $n/2$, which settles a conjecture of Vince~[\emph{J. Graph Theory} 97 (2021), 82--103]. We go further and show that, for connected simple graphs of order $n$ and minimum degree exactly $k\ge3$, $K_k\vee(K_1\cup K_{n-k-1})$ uniquely minimizes this average under additional conditions.

An Equivariant Main Conjecture for Branched $\mathbb Z_p$-Towers of Finite Graphs and Applications
Let $p$ be a prime and let $Y/X$ be a finite abelian branched cover of finite connected graphs. We consider a compatible branched $\mathbb Z_p$-tower above $Y$ whose total Galois group over $X$ is abelian. We construct an equivariant Picard Iwasawa module over the completed group ring of the total Galois group and give an explicit presentation of this module. On the analytic side, we construct an equivariant Artin--Ihara $L$-element at the top of the tower and isolate a modified factor whose value at $u=1$ is well defined. Our main result computes the Fitting ideal of the equivariant Picard Iwasawa module in terms of these special values and augmentation ideals determined by the inertia groups. As applications, we recover the main conjecture for branched $\mathbb Z_p$-towers from our earlier work and obtain finite-level Fitting-ideal and annihilation formulas which can be viewed as graph-theoretic analogues of the conjectures of Kurihara and Brumer--Stark.

Frozen colorings and recolorability of blowups
The $k$-reconfiguration graph $R_k(G)$ of the proper $k$-colorings of a graph $G$ is the graph whose vertices are the $k$-colorings of $G$, with an edge between two colorings if they differ on exactly one vertex. A graph $G$ is recolorable if $R_k(G)$ is connected for all $k \ge χ(G) + 1$. In this paper, we study recolorability under blowups through frozen colorings, here blowup means replacing vertices with non-empty cliques. We characterize frozen colorings of a blowup of $G$ in terms of maximal independent sets of the base graph, and develop a lifting principle that transfers suitable frozen obstructions from an induced subgraph to a blowup of the ambient graph. This framework yields several consequences. In particular, we answer negatively a question of Belavadi, Cameron and Sintiari on recoloring via modular decomposition, and disprove their conjecture on blowups of prime graphs. We further determine exactly which cycles have all blowups recolorable: this holds for $C_n$ if and only if $n\in\{3,4,5,7\}$. The frozen obstructions arising from the negative cases, together with the lifting principle, imply that if every blowup of a graph $G$ is recolorable, then every induced hole of $G$ has length $4$, $5$, or $7$. Finally, using linear programming duality, we show that every such graph $G$ is fractionally co-strongly perfect.

On Entries of Spectral Decompositions and Applications
The entries of the spectral idempotents of a graph are its local and crossed local multiplicities. This paper uses these classical quantities in three applications. First, in a graph on $n$ vertices without isolated vertices, every local multiplicity is at most $\frac{n-1}{n}$, and every diagonal entry of the Cesaro average mixing matrix is at most $1-\frac{2}{n}+\frac{2}{n^2}$. In both bounds equality holds only for the complete graph. This proves the connected form of the complete graph trace conjecture of Godsil, Guo and Sobchuk together with its equality case, and component and degree refinements follow. The two upper bounds and their attainment by complete graphs also occur in a recent machine checked proof, without a formal characterization of when equality holds. Second, for the line graph of a connected graph $Γ$, the average return probability at a bridge with a bipartite component on one side is at least the reciprocal of the rank of the unsigned incidence matrix. Equality holds exactly for $P_2$ and $P_3$. The proof combines local moments with known inverse-incidence formulas. Finally, the paper gives a short proof of Godsil's entry criterion, which says that vertices $u$ and $v$ are strongly cospectral exactly when $\left|(E_θ)_{uv}\right|=(E_θ)_{uu}$ for every eigenvalue $θ$. The criterion recovers the known classification in connected noncomplete strongly regular graphs, where the strongly cospectral pairs are precisely the two-vertex parts of cocktail party graphs.

Bowen--Franks groups and minus class groups of imaginary abelian fields

We extend this result to a general imaginary abelian field.

A Solution to the Kohayakawa-Prömel-Rödl Conjecture
The induced Ramsey number $r_{\mathrm{ind}}(G,H)$ is defined as the minimum order of a graph $F$ such that any 2-coloring of its edges with red and blue leads to either a red induced copy of $G$ or a blue induced copy of $H$. In 1998, Kohayakawa, Prömel, and Rödl conjectured that for any fixed graph $G$, there exists a constant $f=f(G)$ such that the induced Ramsey number $r_{\mathrm{ind}}(G, H)$ is bounded by $|V(H)|^f$ for every graph $H$. In this paper, we completely solve the Kohayakawa--Prömel--Rödl conjecture, which states that for any graphs $G$ and $H$ with $|V(G)|=k\ge2$ and $|V(H)|=t\ge2$, $r_{\mathrm{ind}}(G,H)\le t^{60k^2+3}$. This verifies the conjecture with $f(G)=60|V(G)|^2+3$.

A first order phase transition for lower tails in sparse random graphs
We study the graphon variational problem that governs lower tail large deviations of the number of copies of a fixed nonbipartite graph $H$ in a sparse Erdős--Rényi random graph. Our main new insight is that any non-constant minimizer of the variational problem exhibits a discontinuous jump away from the constant graphon. We deduce that the replica-symmetric and symmetry-breaking regimes are separated by a single critical parameter and that the phase transition is first order. In the supercritical regime $p \gg n^{-1/m_2(H)}$, we transfer these results to the conditioned random graph, showing that the edge density is a discontinuous order parameter and that the conditioned graph concentrates in cut distance near the full minimizer set.

On algebraic and arithmetic properties of monoids of product-$K$ sequences
Let $G$ be a group and $K$ be a normal subgroup of $G$. A sequence over $G$ is a finite collection of terms from $G$, where repetition is allowed, and the order is disregarded. A product-$K$ sequence is a sequence whose terms can be ordered such that their product in $G$ belongs to $K$. The set $\mathcal B_K (G)$ of all product-$K$ sequences over $G$ forms a monoid, called the monoid of product-$K$ sequences, under the operation of sequence concatenation. In this paper, we investigate the algebraic and arithmetic properties of the monoid $\mathcal B_K (G)$. Among our main results, we provide precise characterizations of when $\mathcal B_K (G)$ satisfies key properties, namely being (transfer) Krull, a (seminormal) C-monoid, or (half-)factorial. After that, we study the Isomorphism Problem for monoids of product-$K$ sequences. Our results generalize existing frameworks, making them applicable to both the classical abelian and the more recently developed non-abelian settings.

The e-positivity of $\mathrm{rowDiv}_k(e_μ)$
We prove that the partition division operator $\mathrm{rowDiv}_k$ preserves e-positivity, resolving a conjecture of Alexandersson and Dai. For $μ\vdash kn$ and $ν\vdash n$, we express the coefficient of $e_ν$ in $\mathrm{rowDiv}_k(e_μ)$ as a normalized sum of positive rational weights over closed walks on a finite directed graph of $k$-restricted partitions. The proof combines the Pieri rule and a root of unity factorization for Macdonald polynomials. As a corollary, we recover the h-positivity of the symmetric functions $A_{n,k}$ of Amdeberhan, Shareshian, and Stanley.

Big Ramsey degrees and structures in relational languages
We establish a precompact transfer theorem for big Ramsey structures and a uniform envelope theorem for valuation hypergraphs. These yield big Ramsey structures for generic injective relational structures in languages with finitely many symbols of each positive arity, answering the existence part of Problem~6.3.2 of Balko et al.\ [M.~Balko et al., J.~Eur.~Math.~Soc.\ 28, 2101--2150 (2026)], and refute Conjecture~4.7 of Braunfeld et al.\ [S.~Braunfeld et al., Adv.~Comb., Paper No.~4 (2024)]. We also construct a finitely constrained free amalgamation class in a finite language of maximum arity three whose Fraïssé limit has infinite singleton big Ramsey degree, giving a negative answer to the existence question in Problem~6.3.3 of Balko et al.

Continuous Narayana Interpolations: Hankel Total Positivity and Log-Convexity Preservation
We study a continuous interpolation between the type $B$ and shifted type $A$ Narayana triangles. Using a direct Gegenbauer-moment proof and a continuant comparison criterion, we show that the row polynomials form a coefficientwise Hankel-totally positive sequence for every real $θ\ge0$, and establish the same property for the moment sequences associated with all tails of the corresponding Jacobi matrix. Their $γ$-expansion, real-rootedness and Stieltjes moment representation are explicit, as are the exact orders of vanishing and extreme coefficients of arbitrary Hankel minors. This confirms and strengthens Rodelet--Causse--Tevlin's log-convexity conjecture for super Narayana polynomials. We further extend Wang--Yang's total positivity of the type~$A$ and $B$ Narayana triangles and strict total positivity of the associated squares to every real $θ>-1$, using Pólya-frequency sequences and a gamma-product moment representation. We also prove that the continuous Narayana transformations preserve strong $t$-log-convexity for every $θ\ge0$, and that every $d$-Hoggatt transformation has the same property for integers $d\ge1$. The preservation proofs employ the Zhu--Sun criterion and a mixed-minor one-sign-change argument based on a hypergeometric hitting-probability inequality.

Digraph Laplacian spectra: The 2005 polygon conjecture fails for all orders above four
Let $Λ_n$ be the set of all eigenvalues of standardized Laplacian matrices of order $n$, equivalently, of stochastic $n\times n$ matrices with off-diagonal entries at most $\frac1n$. In 2005, a polygon $S_n\subseteqΛ_n$ was constructed, and it was conjectured that $Λ_n=S_n$; this holds for $n\le3$. We show that the conjecture fails for every $n\ge5$. The vertices of $S_n$ are eigenvalues of circulant Laplacians built from powers of the directed $n$-cycle. To first order, no perturbation of these circulants moves such an eigenvalue out of $S_n$; however, adding chords with nonconstant weights moves it along an edge of $S_n$ to first order and, with an explicit coefficient, beyond the supporting line of this edge to second order. Consequently, every edge of $S_n$ not incident to $0$ or $1$ contains interior points of $Λ_n$, except possibly, for even $n$, the two horizontal edges, whereas the four edges incident to $0$ or $1$ lie on $\partialΛ_n$. For $n=4$, whose only other edges are horizontal, the question remains open. We certify an explicit weighted counterexample for $n=5$, lying only $1.5\cdot10^{-3}$ outside $S_5$, and an unweighted one for $n=7$: the directed $6$-cycle with a duplicated vertex. Its eigenvalue outside $S_7$ is also an eigenvalue of the two-chord digraph that ends the above perturbation; for the analogous digraphs of order $n$, the excess is asymptotic to $\frac{π^2}{2n^4}$. We also observe that $S_n$ is a zonotope, describe $Λ_n$ in terms of eigenvectors, and prove that $S_m\subseteq S_n$ whenever $m\mid n$.

There is no $8$-regular $K_3$-irregular graph
A graph is $K_3$-irregular if its vertices belong to pairwise distinct numbers of triangles. We prove that no $8$-regular $K_3$-irregular graph exists, settling the last unresolved case. Following the initial discovery of such graphs for regularities $r \in \{10,11,12\}$ (Stevanović et al., 2024), our previous work (Hak et al., 2025) showed that no such graphs exist for $r \le 7$, provided the first example for $r=9$, and proved that any $8$-regular candidate must have between $17$ and $22$ vertices. We exclude these possible orders for $r=8$ by combining careful analysis of triangle degrees with integer linear programming techniques. Meanwhile, a recent construction (Zhang, 2026) established that regular $K_3$-irregular graphs do exist for all $r \ge 9$. Together with our results, this establishes that an $r$-regular $K_3$-irregular graph exists if and only if $r\geq 9$.

Hull Games of Induced Path Convexities in Graphs
In 1984, Frank Harary introduced the first convexity games in graphs, all of them based on the geodesic convexity, which is the graph convexity related to shortest paths. In 2024, Araújo et al. obtained the first PSPACE-hardness proofs on some of these geodesic games and generalized them to any graph convexity. In this paper, we investigate convexity games on several known induced path convexities: the monophonic $\mathrm{m}$-convexity and the $\ell_k$-convexities, based on induced paths and on induced paths of size at most $k$. We prove that the hull games $\mathrm{CHG}_{\mathrm{m}}$, $\mathrm{CHG}_{\ell_k}$ and their misère variants are PSPACE-complete for every $k\ge2$ even in graphs with diameter at most 3. We also use the Sprague-Grundy Theory to obtain a polynomial time algorithm to decide the winner of the games $\mathrm{CHG}_{\mathrm{m}}$ and $\mathrm{CHG}_{\ell_k}$ for any $k\ge2$ in disjoint unions of paths and cycles. For $k\ge3$ odd, we prove that Alice (1st player) wins $\mathrm{CHG}_{\ell_k}$ in the path $P_n$ if and only if $n$ is odd and she wins in the cycle $C_n$ if and only if $n=3$ or $n=α\cdot (k+1)-1$ with $α\ge2$. For $k\ge2$ even, the only periodic nimber sequences of $\mathrm{CHG}_{\ell_k}$ obtained through extensive computational testing occurred for $k=2^h-4$ with $h\ge3$, e.g, $k\in\{4,12,28,60,\ldots\}$. In this case ($k=2^h-4$ with $h\ge3$), we prove that the nimber sequences of $\mathrm{CHG}_{\ell_k}$ in $P_n$ and in $C_n$ are periodic and Alice loses (resp. wins) in $P_n$ (resp. $C_n$) with $n>k$ only when $n=3k+4$ (resp. $n\in\{2k+1,5k+3\}$). Finally, we show that, for $k=2$, the game $\mathrm{CHG}_{\ell_2}$ in paths $P_n$ is closely related to the classical game Couples-are-Forever of J. H. Conway: it is still an open problem if the nimber sequence is periodic or not and Alice loses only for 12 values of $n$ up to $100$ million.

Exact Ehrhart Series of Birkhoff Polytopes via Constant Terms and Finite-Field Evaluation
The Ehrhart series of the $n$th Birkhoff polytope is $\sum_{r\geq0}H_n(r)z^r$, where $H_n(r)$ counts nonnegative integer $n\times n$ matrices whose row and column sums all equal $r$. We present an exact method for computing this series using constant terms and finite fields. A root filter expresses $H_n(r)$ as a weighted sum of the values $h_r(M)^n$, where $h_r$ is the complete homogeneous symmetric polynomial and $M$ ranges over multisets of $m$th roots of unity with $m=r+1$. Constant-term cancellation reduces the evaluation of $h_r(M)$ to a sum over repeated elements $a$ of $M$. For a particular $a$ of multiplicity $μ_a$, the computation uses a generalized Todd coefficient of degree $μ_a-2$. Sums of $h_r(M)^n$ over selected multiplicity classes are handled using symmetric function techniques. Together with the remaining individual evaluations, this gives $O_n(m^{n-5}+m^4)$ field operations for each admissible prime and fixed $n\geq5$. An explicit bound and the Chinese remainder theorem recover the integer counts, and Ehrhart symmetry determines the full series. The same method applies to the World Cup problem, which counts the same matrices with diagonal entries required to be $0$. We prove correctness and compute complete series for both families through order $13$. The Birkhoff series for orders $10$--$13$ and the World Cup series for orders $9$--$13$ are tabulated in the appendices.

Sharp spectral norm concentration and regularization of sparse random tensors
We prove sharp spectral-norm bounds and construct a mean-fitting regularization procedure for sparse random tensors of fixed order $k$. For an $n\times\cdots\times n$ tensor with independentBernoulli$(p)$ entries, the centered norm is $O(\sqrt{np})$ with polynomially high probability whenever $np\ge c\log n$. This removes the logarithmic loss in Zhou and Zhu (2021). We also determine the expected centered norm at every sparsity level: for every $0<p\le1/2$, it has order $\min\{n^kp,\sqrt{d_{\mathrm{eff}}}\}$, where $d_{\mathrm{eff}}$ is an effective degree accounting for unusually large fiber counts. The upper bounds extend to tensors with deterministic entrywise weights and unequal sampling probabilities. Analogous two-sided bounds hold for the Friedman--Wigderson model at every degree; its expected centered norm has order $\sqrt{d_{\mathrm{eff}}}$. We also give an all-sparsity regularization procedure for independent Bernoulli tensors with unknown, possibly unequal means in $[0,p]$. Our light-fitting regularization estimates the original mean with minimax expected spectral-norm error of order $\min\{\sqrt{np},pn^{k/2}\}$ for every known $0\le p\le1$. The procedure fits light multilinear residuals under an entrywise constraint on the candidate mean, rather than deleting high-degree fibers.

Two-Sided Dimension Bounds for the Peterson Hit Problem via Projections and Matrix Minors
Let $\mathcal P_k=\mathbb F_2[x_1,\ldots,x_k]$ be the polynomial algebra over the prime field $\mathbb F_2$, viewed as an unstable module over the mod-$2$ Steenrod algebra $\mathcal A$. The well-known Peterson hit problem asks for a minimal set of generators for the $\mathcal A$-module $\mathcal P_k$. This is equivalent to determining the dimension of the cohit space $(Q\mathcal P_k)_d=(\mathcal P_k/\mathcal A^{+}\mathcal P_k)_d$, where $\mathcal A^{+}$ denotes the augmentation ideal of $\mathcal A$, for every $k\geq1$ and positive degree $d$. Although solved in every degree for at most four variables, it remains a difficult open problem in general. Furthermore, given the limitations of current tools, explicitly determining the dimension of $(Q\mathcal P_k)_d$ in the general case appears out of reach. Motivated by these limitations, we establish explicit upper and lower bounds for this dimension for arbitrary positive integers $k$ and $d.$ Our method combines binary combinatorics, linear algebra, and graph and simplicial structures associated with the generating Steenrod squares. We characterize zero rows, count zero columns, and refine rank estimates using Adem relations. Minors and zero rows of the resulting smaller matrix yield further two-sided cohit bounds without determining a complete basis or computing the full hit rank.

The Complexity of Weak Partition Connectivity in Hedgegraphs
We prove that deciding whether the weak partition connectivity (WPC) of an unweighted hedgegraph is at most a given integer is NP-complete, resolving an open question about its computational complexity. Hardness holds even for connected full-support split systems, where each hedge consists of two nonempty, vertex-disjoint hyperedges covering all vertices. We also obtain hardness on connected edge-colored simple graphs in which each color class is a spanning forest with exactly two nontrivial trees. On both classes, exact computation of fractional WPC is NP-hard, whereas hedge connectivity is computable exactly in polynomial time. A binary matrix formulation yields the reduction and a deterministic polynomial-time exact algorithm under a linear intersection condition on row supports after normalization and column compression. In particular, both integer and fractional WPC are computable in polynomial time when these supports have size at most two, whereas NP-hardness holds already when their size is bounded by three. For every fixed $b$, we give deterministic and randomized efficient polynomial-time approximation schemes on hedgegraphs in which each hedge has at most $b$ connected components, counting isolated vertices. Both schemes return one partition that simultaneously approximates integer and fractional WPC. Unless $\mathrm P=\mathrm{NP}$, neither objective admits a deterministic FPTAS, even on the two hard instance classes.

We also show that these formulae satisfy certain recurrence relations.

Skeleton Chordalities
We study new higher-dimensional analogs of graph chordality and review the existing ones. Our main results for simplicial complexes are: (1) $Δ$ skeleton-E-chordal $\Rightarrow$ $Δ^\vee$ vertex-decomposable $\Rightarrow$ $Δ$ skeleton-clique-chordal. Moreover, for subflag complexes, $Δ$ skeleton-E-chordal $\Longleftrightarrow$ $Δ^\vee$ vertex-decomposable. (For $d=1$ this boils down to ``$G$ chordal $\Longleftrightarrow$ $G^\vee$ vertex-decomposable'', a result closely related to Fröberg's theorem.) (2) For subflag complexes, $Δ$ is skeleton-E-chordal $\Longleftrightarrow$ it splits as $Δ= Δ_1 \cup Δ_2$, with each $Δ_i$ a skeleton-E-chordal induced subcomplex of $Δ$, and with $Δ_1 \cap Δ_2$ a complex whose $1$-skeleton is a clique. (This generalizes ``$G$ chordal $\Longleftrightarrow$ $G$ splits as a union of chordal graphs that intersect in a common clique''). (3) $Δ$ skeleton-E-chordal $\Longleftrightarrow$ every nonempty induced subcomplex of $Δ$ has a skeleton-E-simplicial vertex. A Littlewood-Richardson Rule for Forest Polynomials
The forest polynomials $\mathfrak{P}_a$ of Nadeau-Tewari form a $\mathbb{Z}$-basis of $\mathbb{Z}[x_1,x_2,\ldots]$ whose role for the cohomology of the quasisymmetric flag variety parallels that of Schubert polynomials for the classical flag variety. Nonnegativity of the structure constants $β_{a,b}^c$ in $\mathfrak{P}_a \mathfrak{P}_b = \sum_c β_{a,b}^c \mathfrak{P}_c$ is known, but no Littlewood-Richardson-style enumerative rule has been available. We give such a rule: $β_{a,b}^c$ counts pairs of forest RC graphs of forest-codes $a$ and $b$ whose lift product lands on a forest RC graph of forest-code and weight both equal to $c$. The same rule descends to the cup product on $H^\bullet(\mathrm{QFl}_n)$. The proof introduces a squash product $\boxtimes$ on RC graphs, which on full Grassmannian RC graphs of a fixed height recovers the plactic monoid, a multiplactic algebra $\mathcal{M}_n$ that models Schubert polynomial multiplication, and a lift product $*$ on RC graphs whose quasi-crystal structure, in the framework of Cain-Guilherme-Malheiro, transports the Nadeau-Tewari forest equivalence through the computation. The row-decomposition machinery on RC graphs that underlies these constructions is developed in a companion paper.

Counting connected multitype graphs with prescribed edge counts
We determine the exponential asymptotics of the number of connected labelled graphs with finitely many vertex types, prescribed numbers of vertices of each type, and prescribed edge counts between each pair of types. Under an irreducibility and strict surplus condition, we express the count for linear surplus of edges as the unrestricted count multiplied by an explicit exponential connectivity factor, up to a multiplicative error \(\exp\{o(n)\}\). The factor is characterized by a finite-dimensional nonlinear system whose solution exists and is unique. We use a probabilistic method, exploiting large-deviation principles and asymptotic estimates for connectedness probabilities to relate the counting problem to the emergence of giant components in suitably tuned supercritical random graphs. For connected bipartite graphs, we determine the exponential rate throughout the regime of positive linear excess and fixed positive limiting proportions of the two vertex classes. In the parameter ranges where the existing upper and lower bounds apply, this identifies the exponential rate left undetermined by those estimates.
Enumeration and Monotonicity of Linear Codes with Prescribed Hull Dimensions
The hull of a linear code is the intersection of the code with its dual and depends on the choice of inner product. We study how the numbers of linear codes with prescribed Euclidean, Hermitian, and symplectic hull dimensions vary with the hull dimension. Building on closed enumeration formulae, we derive exact ratio decompositions for the Hermitian and symplectic cases, determine the parameter ranges in which monotonicity holds, and identify the exceptional families. We also compare the three inner products and complement the theoretical analysis with computational classification results for quaternary codes.

The exact Erdős-Ko-Rado Theorem for 3-wise $t$-intersecting uniform families
One of the central problems in extremal set theory is the determination of the maximum size of an $r$-wise $t$-intersecting $k$-graph on $n$ vertices. For $r=2$ after decades of effort, a complete solution was given by the Complete Intersection Theorem (\cite{AK0}). However the case $r\geq 3$ remains wide open. The $t$-star consisting of all $k$-sets containing a fixed $t$-set provides a lower bound. For $r=3$ and $k\geq t+2\geq44$, we determine the exact threshold for which it is optimal for $n>k$. The condition is essentially $n\geq \sqrt{t}k$. For $k\geq t+2\geq47$ and $n\geq\frac{\sqrt{4t+9}-1}{2}k$, we also establish the corresponding Hilton-Milner-type stability result.

Isolation of non-triangle cycles in graphs
Published in Discrete Applied Mathematics 394 (2026), 261-268 • View Publication • BIB
Given a set $\mathcal{F}$ of graphs, we call a copy of a graph in $\mathcal{F}$ an $\mathcal{F}$-graph. The $\mathcal{F}$-isolation number of a graph $G$, denoted by $ι(G, \mathcal{F})$, is the size of a smallest set $D$ of vertices of $G$ such that the closed neighbourhood $N[D]$ of $D$ intersects the vertex sets of the $\mathcal{F}$-graphs contained by $G$ (equivalently, $G-N[D]$ contains no $\mathcal{F}$-graph). Let $\mathcal{C}$ be the set of cycles, and let $\mathcal{C}'$ be the set of non-triangle cycles (that is, cycles of length at least $4$). Let $G$ be a connected graph having exactly $n$ vertices and $m$ edges. The first author proved that $ι(G,\mathcal{C}) \leq n/4$ if $G$ is not a triangle. Bartolo and the authors determined a set $\mathcal{E}_4$ of nine graphs such that $ι(G,\{C_4\}) \leq n/5$ if $G$ is not an $\mathcal{E}_4$-graph. Chen and Cui recently strengthened this result by proving that $ι(G, \mathcal{C}') \leq n/5$ if $G$ is not an $\mathcal{E}_4$-graph. This had been proved by Zhang and Wu for the case where $G$ contains no triangle. Various authors proved that $ι(G,\mathcal{C}) \leq (m+1)/5$ if $G$ is not a triangle. We prove that $ι(G,\mathcal{C}') \leq (m+1)/6$ if $G$ is not a $4$-cycle. Zhang and Wu established this for the case where $G$ contains no triangle. Our result yields the inequality $ι(G,\{C_4\}) \leq (m+1)/6$ of Wei, Zhang and Zhao. These bounds are attained by infinitely many (non-isomorphic) graphs. The proof of our inequality hinges on also determining the graphs attaining the bound.

Transience of walks in the countable complete digraph with complex edge weights
We extend a fragment of the symbolic method in enumerative combinatorics by allowing coefficients in generating functions to be defined by infinite series and generalize Pólya's theorem on random walks. Pólya's theorem determines limits of the probabilities that walks in the grid graph on $\mathbb{Z}^d$, starting at the origin $\overline{0}$, visit the given vertex $\overline{v}$. We generalize the grid graph to the countable complete directed graph $\vec{K}_{\mathbb{N}}$ on the vertices $\mathbb{N}=\{1,2,\dots\}$ and weight its edges by complex numbers. We obtain 16 generalizations of Pólya's theorem. Our approach, in fact, generalizes Markov chains on $\mathbb{N}$ starting at $1$.

Integral quasi-strongly regular Cayley graphs
Quasi-strongly regular graphs form a significant generalization of strongly regular graphs. We study the eigenvalues of a family of such graphs, $Γ_H(G)$, constructed from a finite group $G$ and a subgroup $H$. Our main results include a sufficient condition for $Γ_H(G)$ to be integral and an explicit computation of its entire spectrum when $H$ is normal, revealing that the spectrum in this case depends only on $|G|$ and the index $[G:H]$.

Affine diagram categories, algebras and monoids
Published • View Publication • BIB
We introduce and study several affine (=annular in this paper) versions of the classical diagram algebras such as Temperley-Lieb, partition, Brauer, Motzkin, rook Brauer, rook, planar partition, and planar rook algebras. We give generators and relation presentation for them and their associated categories, study their representation theory, and the asymptotic behavior of tensor products of their representations in the monoid case. Under a mild hypothesis, we also prove a previous conjecture concerning the asymptotic growth of the number of indecomposable summands in the tensor powers of representations for finite monoids.

Completing the enumeration of inversion sequences avoiding triples of relations
An inversion sequence of length $n$ is an integer sequence $(a_1, \ldots, a_n)$ such that $0 \le a_i < i$ for all $i$. The study of pattern-avoiding inversion sequences was initiated in 2015 by Mansour and Shattuck and in 2016 by Corteel, Martinez, Savage and Weselcouch. Martinez and Savage later defined a new type of pattern, a triple of binary relations, of which there are currently 14 uncounted avoidance classes. We complete the enumeration for all of these classes using generating tree methods "growing on the left" and "growing on the right". For many of these classes we are able to find algebraic generating functions. We also discuss the asymptotic behaviour of the counting sequences.

One-weight codes in the sum-rank metric
Published • View Publication • BIB
One-weight codes, in which all nonzero codewords share the same weight, form a highly structured class of linear codes with deep connections to finite geometry. While their classification is well understood in the Hamming and rank metrics - being equivalent to (direct sums of) simplex codes - the sum-rank metric presents a far more intricate landscape. In this work, we explore the geometry of one-weight sum-rank metric codes, focusing on three distinct classes. First, we introduce and classify \emph{constant rank-list} sum-rank codes, where each nonzero codeword has the same tuple of ranks, extending results from the rank-metric setting. Next, we investigate the more general \emph{constant rank-profile} codes, where, up to reordering, each nonzero codeword has the same tuple of ranks. Although a complete classification remains elusive, we present the first examples and partial structural results for this class. Finally, we consider one-weight codes that are also MSRD (Maximum Sum-Rank Distance) codes. For dimension two, constructions arise from partitions of scattered linear sets on projective lines. For dimension three, we connect their existence to that of special $2$-fold blocking sets in the projective plane, leading to new bounds and nonexistence results over certain fields.

Normal approximation for subgraph counts in random intersection graphs: the case of edges
We investigate the subgraph count in the random intersection graph model $\mathcal G(n,m,p)$. Due to substantial edge dependencies, studying even such fundamental statistics is significantly more challenging than in the classical binomial model $\mathcal G(n,p)$. This article establish new normal approximation bounds in both the Wasserstein and Kolmogorov distances for general non-degenerate $U$-statistics. We then illustrate how these results can be potentially applied to the standardized number of subgraphs in the random intersection graph model. Finally, as a basic example, we derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the asymptotic normality of the number of edges in $\mathcal G(n,m,p)$.

Efficient total facial coloring of combinatorial maps
Let $1<k\in\mathbb{Z}$. A total coloring of a connected simple regular graph $G$ via color set $]k]_0=\{0,1,\ldots, k\}$ is efficient if each color yields an efficient dominating set, where efficient domination applies to each color class in $V(G)$. An efficient total coloring of $G$ via $[k]_0$ extends to an efficient total facial coloring $c$ of a map $M(G)$ of $G$ if it assigns a vertex-and-edge $k$-color set to the boundary cycle of each face, with the consequently missing color assigned to the face itself, so that the two adjacent faces along each edge are assigned different colors. Focus is set upon planar and toroidal maps. Modifications of $c$ are also treated by removing a perfect dominating set or a 1-factor from $G$.

The distinguishing number of complete bipartite and crown graphs
The distinguishing number of a permutation group $G\leqslant\Sym(Ω)$ is the minimum number of colours needed to colour $Ω$ in such a way that the only colour preserving element of $G$ is the identity. The distinguishing number of a graph is the distinguishing number of its automorphism group (as a permutation group on vertices). We determine the distinguishing number of the complete bipartite graphs $K_{n,n}$ and the crown graphs $K_{n,n}-nK_2$, as well as the distinguishing number of some `large' subgroups of their automorphism groups, that is, the subgroups that are vertex- and edge-transitive and such that the induced action on each bipart is $\Alt(n)$ or $\Sym(n)$. We show that, if $G$ is a `large' group of automorphisms of $K_{n,n}$, then $n-1\leqslant D(G) \leqslant n+1$. Similarly, if $G$ is a `large' group of automorphisms of a crown graph, then $\lceil \sqrt{n-1}\rceil \leqslant D(G)\leqslant \lfloor \sqrt{n}\rfloor+1$. \smallskip \textit{Keywords:} complete bipartite graph; crown graph; distinguishing number; symmetric group; alternating group
